Redhouse Plaice in Swindon

Used to use this place often, thought try again, very disappointed. Service from young girl was dire, she should not have been there, no thanks, smile. Stay at home. Large cod used to be cooked to order, now all ready cooked on display. Chips not brilliant. Sorry won't be going again.

This chippy has to be the worst I have ever been to. The chips are never hot and fresh and they always seem dry and hard, really unpleasant on every occasion so I won’t be going back from now. I was hoping they would improve but nope, still as rubbish as ever. How can a chippy get chips so wrong ?!

The recent experience at Redhouse Plaice Fish & Chips has been regrettably underwhelming, marked by a stark reduction in portion sizes that's hard to ignore. This issue has been most glaring in their kebab offering. Priced at £5.90, the kebab offered a disappointing amount of meat that could be equated to about £2 worth. The meat, while flavorful and well-seasoned, was embarrassingly sparse, leaving a significant void in the meal that bread and vegetables alone couldn't fill. For the cost of the dish, one expects a much more substantial serving. While the classic fish and chips still feature the perfectly cooked fish and delightfully crispy chips, the diminishing portions overshadow these merits. The sense of satisfaction that should follow a hearty meal at a reputable fish and chips shop is conspicuously absent. The significant reduction in portion sizes at Redhouse Plaice, particularly in the kebab, leaves you feeling short-changed. It's important for the establishment to reevaluate their portion sizes to ensure their customers feel they are getting good value for their money.

Food has gone completely downhill and God forbid if you mention this to the manager you will be spoken to like rubbish-a bit like how he speaks to his staff which makes you feel very uncomfortable as a customer. He is pretentious and gives the impression he is there for the money, not to provide decent food and will not take an once of constructive criticism. Feel sorry for the young kids he employs to boss around

I had left a review previously commending the place.. however, upon my visit yesterday, with a young server with a bad attitude, who clearly would rather be anywhere else.. the customer service needs an overhaul I feel. The food was lovely! The attitude of staff - not so much.

Placed my order and waited over half an hour while 10-15 other customers came in and left with their orders. Felt like an idiot hanging around but had paid, so no choice. The food was OK. Average I guess.

Walked all the way down to the store at 9pm Saturday as hours state until 10pm. They close at 9pm ,so a heads up for anyone travelling there. Save yourself a wasted journey.

Since this has been revamped and we get our fish & chips in a box rather than wrapped up, it's so much nicer, classier, they haven't been greasy for so long, they're always very fresh now, service is overall good, some of the attitudes of the young members of staff can be improved but that's it, always choose here for our f&c, totally recommended.

Very unsatisfied this evening brought chips for the family of 4. chips was very under cooked and some parts were frozen. Disgusting customer service from lady with white/blonde hair I came in very politely and said probably Just a bad batch! She was rude and continue to just argue and say I was wrong!! Never will I go again. Advised family and friends the same!!!

Amazing food,the fish is lovely battered and tastes amazing, the chips are cooked to perfection, The staff are ever so friendly always smiling Definitely recommend to anyone

ABSOLUTELY VILE & PATHETIC food!!! I was honestly lost for words after the girlfriend unravelled what they had served us. I had to take a photo for evidence otherwise I truly feared people wouldn’t believe me when I explained their pathetic attempt at food (please see photo attached). The fish was skinnier than two of my fingers... I have honestly never experienced a more insulting, pathetic attempt at a “Large cod & chips”. To add even more salt to the wound, they justify this as a “Large cod” worth £5.50!!!! The chips were so vile that you couldn’t even puncture them with a fork. They had clearly been cooked hours before and were so greasy, they had formed a hardened shell from hours under the heater and were genuinely inedible. We took one bite and put the whole lot straight in the bin. THE WORST FISH & CHIPS I HAVE EVER SEEN & TRIED! I cannot express enough to anybody thinking of eating at this disgusting takeout, please better spend your £9 for this inedible, disgusting attempt at a fish and chips! If I could give zero, then without hesitation I would!

Great food and great service with plenty of menu choices. Food cooked fresh and prices very reasonable.

To angry to write to much... Fish flavourless, chips were all green so could not eat more than half of them. Prices do not reflect the quality and the stale food. Will definitely not get anything from this place again and I will advise against it. The staff is nice though, but the food is way substandard...

Why advertise open until 10pm when you were closed at 9.40? Staff were still there but looked like it had been closed a while.

The last 3 times I have been to the chippy I have been in the mood for something in particular and each time they have not had it. The first time I wanted a kebab but they didn't have any, thought fair enough it happens. Second time wanted a burger and they didn't have any. Third time thought I will have some scampi didn't have any so thought ill have a kebab instead and again didn't have any. I will be looking for another chippy next time as I never have the cod as its very bland. Always give somewhere a chance in case of a bad day we all have them but after 3 times of out of stock and the fish not being nice on more than one occasion I have had enough.

We have had a couple of take away meals from here and they have always been very good value with quick service by the friendly staff. It does get quite hectic in here at peak times but the staff act as fast as they can. The fish is always good and generous size. The chip portions are HUGE but (and this is my only complaint) they need to address the taste of the chips. This is only a take away and they do not cater for sit down meals. We will return again.

Very greasy fish and chips and chips have a funny aftertaste. Walked in and there's 3 people behind the counter. Not 1 said hello or welcomed me as a customer. Looked miserable as sin the lot of them. Been here before and used to be nice, friendly and always fresh hot food. Didn't even say thank you! Won't bother going back. I threw my food in the bin.

I purchased medium fish and chips. The fish was superb, perfectly light and flaky cod with a crisp batter. The chips weren’t of quite the same high standard, but they were still good......time of order 17:45 on a Tuesday.

Really nice Cod, never lets me down, beautiful! Chips can be hit & miss, sometimes lovely and crispy, other times too soggy & greasy for my liking, but in general they're lovely fish & chips.

Had read review but gave it a try food was hot and tasty I visited on a quiet day so had time to get service pleasent would eat from here again

The staff here really are the pits. They are surly and unwelcoming. For example today i was waiting for to be served. A girl came out of the back completely ignored me and shouted at some one coming through the door to take his order....

Where do I start!? Walked into chippy to not even be acknowledge by the lady with white hair- very rude and abupt. Took 15 min to inform me that the card machine wasnt working!! In the mean time my lunch was cold and mixed up!!!...

I recently tried redhouse chip shop after it's reopening following the fire and it was not an enjoyable meal. The chips were undercooked and inedible. There are a lot better chip shops in North Swindon.

If they are busy then they will sell you short on quality and quantity and they will lie about it to your face. In our case, we paid for a large cod and were given an obviously small one, we questioned it several times and...

We telephoned ahead to order 1 large and 1 medium cod also 2 portions of chips. Although busy the staff were friendly and our order was quickly prepared. My wife and I were really impressed with the quality of the food. The cod was excellent...

Ordered a kebab but no donner meat, then the salad was terrible, it was only 7pm and they had run out, well the dregs were left and minimal selection, no chilli's, no cabbage, one tomato, went back again 3 weeks afterwards and same again, Looks...

Tasty food, friendly staff, clean and tidy atmosphere, portions are really big for the value, so I would say it's one of the nicest fish & chips places in this area. Would definitely recommend.

The food from Redhouse Plaice always very good and tasty,lovely fish and chips, unfortunately 15 minutes after my last visit they had a fire and with no other local fish and chip shops I'm going to have to do without until repair work is done.
