An ok dinner experience was brought down by the general manager being a little too sharp with ‘jokes’, complaining about hours worked and lack of staff and being too busy, felt like we were a burden and not paying guests. Food was good, nothing out of this world. Restaurant felt a bit like a function room. View was amazing but you cant see if from the restaurant except for a few tables on one side.

We dined in Restaurant 1872 as part of our stay at the hotel on May 22nd 2021 We had pre booked and were greeted by the restaurant manager who showed us to our table by the window with a stunning view out across the garden and the sea in the distance. Menu choices were explained with options of simple food such as pizzas, burgers etc or an a la carte menu at £27 for 2 courses or £35 for 3. Having been given a bit of time to choose we were greeted by a charming young lady called Alice who took our orders and brought our drinks over in a very timely manner. I hasten to add that the wine menu here is very reasonable and a decent choice too. If wine isn't your thing then a full bar is also available. We opted for the a la carte menu. Choices change daily as the always cook from fresh, and during our stay I chose pork with crackling, asparagus and a bon bon of hogs pudding. My partner chose the duck with fruit jus, roasted carrot, savoy and potato. We were advised there may be a delay as we didn't opt for starters, but our meals were brought out quickly. Food quality and presentation was excellent. Perfectly prepared, hot and delicious. Desert was equally impressive. Well worth the price and our compliments to both kitchen and service staff for a wonderful meal. As guests we also had breakfast, looked after by Patricia in the morning. Fresh coffee, orange juice, toast and a full Cornish breakfast set us up for the day! If you're staying at the hotel or just visiting Falmouth then avoid restaurant row in town and pop along to Restaurant 1872, you won't be disappointed!

We stayed under Covid conditions in early September 2020. Food is very good, well presented and nice portion size. Staff are lovely and had to wear masks which is not a comfortable experience for long periods. Prices are acceptable if on the more expensive side, £35 for 3 course. £27 for 2. Good choice on each evening menu. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant so be aware if you are not fond of dogs, there is the odd bark, well there was from mine when other dogs came in. Would definitely visit this restaurant again and also stay at The Manor House Hotel.

The restaurant was very attractive and tables were well spaced out, causing guests to feel very Covid secure. All serving staff wore face masks and gloves and maintained good distancing from guests. Restaurant staff were perhaps not always as warm and friendly as I expected however it needs to be born in mind that the hotel only recently reopened after extensive lockdown closure. The food was of superb quality and dinner was most definitely the highlight of my stay. There is the option of a two or three course table d’hote menu. The selection of dishes was respectable and all food items were very fresh. I had breaded goats cheese as a starter followed by roast beef for my main. Prices were relatively high however this was reflected in the quality and the location. The barman delivered the drinks order and he was very personable and polite.

Although we did not stay in the hotel we visited for a late Christmas party and we were not disappointed. The per-person price was £23 (excluding drinks) and that included three very well cooked courses with the main course being particularly satisfying. Good quantities, well cooked and very tasty. The staff were friendly, attentive but not in your face and the whole event was very enjoyable. There was ample car parking space and easy access. Would happily return.

Having lived in Falmouth for many years and not being quite sure about Restaurant 1872 at Penmorvah Manor, we decided to take our visiting relatives there for an evening meal. It was a beautiful evening so we started with drinks on the beautifully appointed decking with splendid view across fields towards Maenporth beach and sea. From our arrival we were looked after well by attentive staff who brought menus to us to peruse as we enjoyed our preprandial drinks. The menu had sufficient variety to accommodate a range of preferences and a reasonably price and extensive wine list to choose from. Our table was booked for 7.30 p.m. and whilst it was quiet when taking our seats the restaurant quickly filled with hotel guests - with some non-residents like ourselves. The table was perfectly appointed with views overlooking the garden. It was appreciated to have linen table cloths and napkins as well as a really candle on the table. The restaurants offered a perfect ambience to dine with traditional surrounds - and sound levels to enjoy good discussion over our meal. When food arrived - from start to main course - the servings were plentiful, well-presented and perfectly cooked. It was particularly welcomed that a very good amount of side dishes accompanied the main meal - regrettably an unusual feature in many restaurants these days. Living in Falmouth we often eat in town but the experience at the Penmorvah Manor Restaurant 1872 was superior in many ways but not extravagantly priced. Not only did ourselves enjoy the experience but our relatives did too - and with more visiting in the summer we we be returning a number of times. Highly recommended.

We were staying at the hotel. We dined in the first night. My partners meal was acceptable but mine very disappointing. The breakfasts on the other hand were excellent. I so wished the evening meal had matched the quality of the hotel but I can't say it did, thus we ate out the following nights.

Ok, so these are REALLY nice chips!! Many fish and shops sell pale and soggy, chips that you think you want until its too late and your feel stodgy and horrible. These chips are golden in colour, taste fresh, and are soft on the inside and a little crisp on the outside. Well done team!

Great food but terrible service and very slow. Ordered take out from here whilst family were staying. We thought we had been forgotten or would never arrive. No updates, but the food took two hours to arrive at our house. It was not hot and limp. No idea why it took that long as we were just staying at the holiday park next to Swanpool so fifteen mins by car. No idea why it took so long and 0 communication. Just rubbish.

Such a shame that this restaurant just isn’t as good as it used to be. The waitress was lovely, but the food was not up to scratch. One main arrived cold and another was inferior. It was a special occasion and we were left disappointed.

We dined here last summer (2024) for a colleague's farewell party. Originally, there were eight of us, but at the last minute, we added one more person. Since we had already pre-ordered our meals, we didn’t anticipate any issues. Unfortunately, we were completely wrong. From the moment we added the extra guest, we were made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The staff was exceptionally rude, and at one point, we overheard our server telling another customer that our additional guest "took" the last pork belly, as if we weren't also paying customers. It was a shocking lack of consideration. Throughout the evening, we noticed that other tables were treated much more politely—being offered condiments, drinks, and attentive service. We, on the other hand, were ignored and left feeling like an inconvenience simply for having added one extra person. As for the food, it was decent but overpriced for what we received. My seafood linguine was served so hot that I burned my mouth, and there was no bowl provided for the shells. Overall, we felt that the way we were treated was completely unacceptable. While Charlestown has many lovely dining options, this restaurant is not one I would recommend or return to.
