The service from the wait staff and sommelier was great even though I did not take the sommelier advice as a good wine would be wasted on me. Atmosphere was nice and the wash rooms, definitely the most fanciest I have ever been in. Only thing I would suggest is taking the white branches with Christmas lights away from the window or maybe all together. I found that looked tacky and either some were not working or not turned on as the ones on the left did not light up. They also blocked the view of the river and the city lights which was a shame because we where lucky enough to be seated by the window. I don’t have a good sense in design so it might just be me, so still 5 stars for atmosphere. Unfortunately the food was a let down for us. My wife wanted the scallops for her entree however once we ordered we were told shortly after they had run out so she ordered the the crab instead. Was a shame because the people next to us ordered the scallops and they looked amazing. When the couple left they forgot their bag so ran up to them to return it and saw a large table who had just been served scallops this is at least 50 minutes after we were told there was none left. I know at least 50 minutes because we ordered before the couple next to us got their entrees and the couple complained that they had to wait 40 minutes between entree and main and they had time to eat their main and leave. Apart from that our entrees were really nice and I enjoyed the beetroot entree. The mains are what really let the evening down. I had the beef wellington. It was cooked perfectly and the red wine jus was nice but that was about it. The pastry wasn’t flaky, the pate was hard, dry and very little flavour. Very little difference in flavour and texture from the pastry to the pate. My wife had the fish curry and there was little sauce and too much spinach (at least that’s what we think it was). Couldn’t taste, feel or see the cashews. The curry smelt good but the flavour was missing once added to the rice. Either needs more sauce or more flavour. I would have rated 3 stars since the entrees were nice however, when we are paying decent money getting above average pub quality mains for this price it is really disappointing. A real shame since we are on our honeymoon from Australia and this has been our most expensive evening out other than the Moulin Rouge. We somewhat lied to our waitress and sad every thing was good as we didn’t want any discount and the staff already copped it from the table next to us and I know it’s not the waiters fault. I feel when you are paying that much the food should be better and a dish advertised as popular in the menu highlights online shouldn’t run out of stock when our reservation was at 5:45. All in all, if you are an average wage earner like myself, I would not risk this place for a special evening. If you are wealthy and eat at higher end places then it is worth a go as I’m sure they hit the mark most of the time.

Dinner at the River Restaurant in the Savoy is consistently a remarkable experience. The atmosphere is captivating, the decor is stunning, and the food is an absolute delight. At Christmas time, the festive decorations make the setting even more breathtaking, adding a touch of magic to the occasion. The staff strikes the perfect balance between attentiveness and discretion, ensuring exceptional service without being intrusive. There's always someone nearby if assistance is needed, making the entire dining experience seamless and thoroughly enjoyable.

Terrible service. For a restaurant that is below half capacity, any respectful person should surely be able to have a seat and have a meal there. Similarly, the restaurant should have adequate chefs to supply food for the whole restaurant, although they did not. The staff denied us one of the many available tables and told us we could not eat there because their kitchen was too busy. Is the role of the kitchen not to supply food for the whole restaurant. Extremely unimpressed

my wife usually buys the family an extra Christmas present to open after Christmas dinner. Last year she purchased a voucher for us both to have a meal at the Riverside restaurant. Due to ill health we were not able to use this within the given period but the management did extend this and we're grateful for that. We had dinner On Friday evening and it was all we expected and hoped for I started with the eggs Arnold Benedict, which were absolutely lovely, But I have to say the dish I had a few weeks ago at the shed in Marlow was just marginally nicer. We both had the scallops which were delicious and then moved on to the monkfish and curry sauce which again was absolutely marvellous. my wife finished with tasty sorbet and I had the cremaux With blackberries . Ended with excellent coffee. All in all excellent atmosphere excellent service and a wonderful meal as by the buy we spent a weekend at the Savoy 10 years ago on my 70th birthday – there was eight of us in our family and it was a special deal. My six-year-old granddaughter mentioned that her father was a chef and the chicken she had just eaten was almost as good as his. The waiter then asked her if she wanted to go to the kitchen which she did. When she came back, we asked if she had met Gordon Ramsay, she replied. She didn't know who it was so we don't know if she did.LOL

I had the most fantastic meal ever. The food was incredibly delicious 🤤 and was visually a treat to the eyes. 😍 Gordon Ramsey's culinary magic was at its best and, mate, who can resist that? 🍲👌🏻 I loved every bit of it and I am excited about visiting there again. Yes, the restaurant might seem a bit understaffed, but let me tell you, the service was first-rate! 🌟 They truly know how to deliver a top-notch dining experience. 🍽️ It was definitely a delight! Can't wait for my next visit. 🏃🏻♀️ Just thought of whetting your appetite a bit. 😉

Service and atmosphere were good. Food was average - like we had in many other restaurants without the PR, but significantly over priced. We arrived at 20:00 for dinner and the signature dish - the Beef Wellington already ran out, very unprofessional!! For desert we tried the toffee pudding - which was nothing special and for a digestive I had Grappa which was of very low quality. All together - if you come with no expectations it was OK but it should have been so much better..

Had an amazing breakfast at River Restaurant! The food was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I tried the classic eggs Florentine, and it was one of the best I've ever had. The hollandaise sauce was spot on. The coffee was rich and smooth, and they kept the refills coming. The staff were so friendly and attentive, making the whole experience ever so special. The cosy atmosphere made it the perfect start to my day. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

Modern restaurant with a fairly lively atmosphere and very beautiful decor. The Dover sole was very good but lacked the "wow effect" that a dish of this price deserves (a little more acidity no doubt). The chocolate/blackberry cream was quite good, bringing freshness but with elements that didn't all work together. The New Zealand Sauvignon white wine was a gem.

We visited the River Restaurant today for lunch and although I have always loved lunching there at Xmas our visit today left us very disappointed. We had the “Festive” menu - the starters were tasteless and bland - then we had a 40 minute wait for the main course which proved to be the same. A tiny piece of salty chicken with a salty sauce which tasted like meat oxo cube - green beans which were inedible as they had just been dipped in boiling water. The manager was charming as were all the staff but I’m sorry to say this is the last time we will be coming to have lunch at The Savoy. The food was such a poor standard.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Delicious breakfast spot! I had the avocado on toast, and it was amazing. It is only not 5* because it was more expensive than a 1* Michelin restaurant I did the same day and £25 for a starter you know.. it was creative but £90 for the 3 courses not quite worth that much. Curry was one of the best I've had though

We where visiting from Norway and my friend wanted to try the Biff Wellington. Beeing a big fan of Gordon Ramsay and a chef herself we decided to choose this restaurant due to long opening hours of the kitchen. We had high hopes for the food, this beeing a Gordon Ramsay restaurant, but not all of the food was up to our expectations and the price. We started with some olives which where delicious and some sourdough baguette with butter. The 4 slices of the baguette that where priced at 6£ or maybe even more, where dry and tasted old. I had some oysters as a starter and there where amazingly good. For main course my friend ordered the Biff Wellington which was amazingly good with a slightly too salty sauce, but lucky it balanced out well with the rest of the food. I had high expectations for the dry aged rib eye steak but it was extremely salty, although well cooked inside. Beeing hungry and trying to not be a Karen, I decided to eat the food and not make a big scene out of it. So if you are planning to eat her, ask if the bread is fresh and ask the chief to take it easy with the salt. If I decide to come back one day, it will definitely be for the oysters and to order my own Biff Wellington since it was really good and definitely worth trying. Paulina Hofset

This is nothing like the old riverside restaurant with its classic style and starched table cloths and waiters in starched white jackets. It's a more contemporary style like the ivy but twice the price. Very attentive staff good but somethings can get lost in language food quality excellent but the bill mounts up because everything is extra and of course service charge on top. Two baskets of bread over 12 quid so that gives you an idea what to expect - we didn't need the second basket but it was offered when obviously not required and in the moment foolishly accepted. Wine list eyewatering and sitting at our over varnished naff pine table looking at naff (fake?) IKEA style pot plants crammed in abundance of alcove I'm wondering how they get away with it. No table cloths marks and Spencer style China and cutlery not even a proper espresso cup so my coffee arrived nestled in the bottom of a cold Tea cup. This isn't the destination venue that used to be the Riverside this is more Harry Ramsden than Gordon Ramsey and clearly catering for the internal trade from the high net worth customers staying in the hotel. We enjoyed our lunch we weren't surprised by the 600 quid bill but as lunch/diners we will be heading for the Ritz or Claridges next time where the art of refinement hasn't been jetisonened in the interests of maximising return on floor. Wouldn't recommend it but if your staying in the hotel the food tastes great but don't expect more than bistro style menu

I went for a business dinner with 12 other guests in a private room at the back of the restaurant. The room was a bland kind of “hotel conference room” style and very hot. For the whole meal, there’s was just one person serving us, which was not enough. The poor guy worked hard but he couldn’t take orders, serve food, clear plates, serve wine and water for such a big party on his own. I spent most the meal with an empty wine glass. I ordered a steak- medium rare. When he brought it he said “rare steak”. I said “no I ordered medium rare”. He said “oh yes it’s medium rare”. It was practically raw. He then disappeared for so long after 10 mins, I had to get up to find a waiter in the main restaurant to take it back to be cooked properly. I was expecting a much better meal than we got. I don’t know what they were charging but I expect it was fairly expensive and the whole experience - the room, the food, the service and the atmosphere - was not at the level you would expect in London. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone and felt bad for the company that hosted us - this was not the experience they would have expected at the Savoy.

My partner and I were visiting London for our honeymoon and on our last day, we decided to go to River Restaurant for our final night and get a good dinner to celebrate the trip and being married for a week! The food was great but the service was horrible. We were sat in a corner table that was very close to another and got our server and they said they would be right back to give us some time to look at food menu. About 20 mins later we are met with a different server who does not explain the situation, nor introduces themselves, but merely says “So ready for food?” My partner and I ordered starters and they asked for mains, which seemed a bit rushed but we picked what looked good and went with it as well as two glasses of wine. We would not get the glasses of wine until our mains when I reminded our server and received no apologies and someone else brought our wine also with no apology. You may ask why didn’t I ask earlier for the forgotten wine? Well, our server didn’t check on us and when he was checking on the other tables (as were sommeliers and managers) they seemed to just ignore our gaze and move on with the others issues. We felt completely ignored and as if we did something wrong. Food was good and when we were out of water, our server offered to bring us more and almost 20 minutes went by of nothing. Finally a manager came over after all of our food was gone and I asked for some water and they brought some. Was also given dirty silverware but luckily had a spoon and just used that. We were very disappointed and it very much just left a stain on the end of trip as we felt we were treated very differently from the people sitting next to us who were getting multiple courses, bottles of wine, and then some. As if we weren’t as important because we weren’t spending as much money. A truly horrible feeling leaving the restaurant. When we come back to London, we will not be revisiting and our friends who live in London will know as well about our experience.

For us, the evening at The River Restaurant was very disappointing. My wife and I both ordered the Beef Wellington, and the doneness was not achieved as requested, it was not medium as ordered, which was already disappointing enough. However, at least as frustrating was that the plates were not pre-warmed and were actually cold. As a result, we had cold meat on our plates while eating. When we asked the waitress why the plates weren't pre-warmed, she seemed visibly overwhelmed by the question but said she would ask in the kitchen. When it came time for dessert, she said nothing about the meat. When nothing was mentioned until the bill was presented, we asked again, but the waitress didn’t provide a real answer. A disappointing evening.

We have wanted to go to the Savoy for a very long time. We booked, On arrival things looked opulent and as we imagined. As we were directed to The River Restaurant I could feel my excitement drop. We were a little early so asked to sit at the bar for a cocktail much to our disappointment the bar had no drinks being served at the bar it was empty so we just sat there waiting for our drinks to be ready from I assume the kitchen! So no barman making the drinks in front of you to get the experience Seemed a bit bland.. then trays of food being put on the bar next to us to go to the tables which also spoilt the experience & the drinks were expensive so that was a let down! then we were seated at the back. Felt too close, not well thought out. I wanted a view, I wanted to see the magic happen in the restaurant. I could have been anywhere, I was really underwhelmed and disappointed. The food was ok but very sparse we had the roast beef which was chewy & just as well we ordered extra sides or we would of been hungry, the dessert was ok but not a restaurant we would go back to.

The food we had was excellent. On the smaller portion side but tasted great. The service and the server's attitude could be better for a place like this. The table lamp had collected a lot of dust and could use some cleaning. I booked the a la carte menu & glass of fizz option from OpenTable for 8:30 pm on a Sunday. I wasn't offered the bubbly. They never mentioned it and I was too tired to do so. I just ordered from the menu. But next time, remind your hostess and servers to follow up on this and if you don't really want to offer it then don't have this complimentry offer on OpenTable.

Strong flavour, delicious, and then...sticky toffee pudding to die for. It was an experience, but overall I just felt a bit deflated.. I like to see things happen, watch the people, watch the staff, its all part of dining out.. I was stuck at the back with no view. Tables too close together. We received the experience of lunch at The Riverside as a gift from our son for Christmas & my partner’s 80th birthday. From the minute that we arrived at The Savoy we were greeted by very cheerful and helpful staff. Although not the usual type of establishment we are used to we were overwhelmed by the incredible atmosphere and beauty of the interior. Our table was booked for 12.00 and as we were there slightly early we were told that we could sit wherever we felt comfortable, how could you choose from the delightful seating areas. We went to our table at 12.00. The waiters were charming and we chose our food at our leisure. Although as we had a voucher there was a set menu to choose from we could also choose from the a la carte menu if we wished. My partner stayed with the set menu having to pay an extra £30 for the beef Wellington, but I chose the monkfish curry and the floating island dessert - absolutely gorgeous. The sea bass starter was very different, an acquired taste I think. We had to pay quite a lot more than the value of the voucher but it was certainly worth the experience.

We were here on May 9th at 19:00 o’clock and had the worst experience ever. We ordered appetisers, drinks, main dish and wine for the main dish. They brought our main dish literally 3 minutes after bringing our appetisers. I ordered red wine to drink with my main dish and obviously, I had to cancel it. I have never seen such a terrible service in my life. The goal was to free the tables as soon as possible. We left our appetisers on the table, ate the main dish and left. Our evening was ruined. We raised our concern to two different waiters who did absolutely nothing. Never again. Spent 300 pounds to ruin our night.

One of the finest restaurants in central London. Spacious seating and exceptional food and service. Varied menu has something for everyone.

We had the private dining area for my mum’s 80th birthday and everything was fantastic. Ok it’s expensive but worth it for a special occasion. The food was a good standard for a group set menu, with a great wine selection.

I love Gordon Ramsey but never ate his food. While on vacation in London my wife and I went to his River Restaurant at The Savoy. I am a cook and I couldn't wait. The restaurant is beautiful, the staff was perfect, but the food. Oy vay! I ordered Beef Wellington. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 7.5. I expected a 10. My wife ordered the fish pie. It was inedible. She complained and the restaurant did not charge us. The appetizer was baked scallops, mine tasted better. And the dessert was his specialty and it was ordinary.

I had a group business dinner here recently. The atmosphere is fantastic. The waitress was very good. The food was overpriced, took awhile to serve and really not very good/tasty. It was a set menu with some really odd starters. The only main that appealed was the rib eye which I asked for it be medium rare. I should have known better as it was almost well done inside and extremely fatty/grisly. The creamed spinach was barely warm but the taste was good. Dessert was ok but more about style than substance Overall, I can't recommend the place and certainly wouldn't for the prices as the quality just isn't there in my opinion.

The entire Savoy experience was awesome. The ambience was perfect for the afternoon lunch at the riverside, the food was divine with flavours that were out of the world. The cherry on the cake was the service, Claudia was too good with her service and almost everyone including the steward at the entrance gave us a warm welcome and kept checking in if all was good. Truly loved every moment at the Savoy. 😀

We had a wonderful experience with our waiter Milan who made a fuss of my daughter as it's been her dream to go to one of Gordans restaurant in London,.Milan our waiter went above and beyond but unfortunately when his shift ended no one took over and we were practically ignored for over 45 minutes. I still paid the tip as I did not want Milan to miss out. No one asked how was anything, did not fill our glasses and had to chase the bill. I felt like the scene in pretty woman as if we should not be there!, I messaged the river restaurant through private messenger as 181.00 later it's was disappointing and thought they should know but obviously just one person disappointed is not a big deal for them I guess. The food was very nice and thank you Milan for making a fuss of us while you were on duty you were fantastic and my daughter thought you were the best it was a pleasure to meet you!

Exceptional dining experience. Beef Wellington was perfectly cooked and the Lemon Blackberry Sorbet was the perfect blend of cool and not too sweet. Cannot wait for my next trip to London.

We had a very disappointing lunch at the river restaurant. Our waitress asked if we had any allergies when taking our order. My husband is dairy intolerant so with ordering the risotto we asked if this contained dairy. She confirmed yes but a vegan version could be ordered. So we ordered one vegan mushroom risotto and one standard risotto. When the food arrived the server did not mention that one was vegan but we assumed that all was well. Sadly the risotto was barely cooked and we returned it as inedible. When we asked which one was vegan and was this the reason for the poorly cooked rice the manager said he wasn't sure and then later stated both were vegan as the mushroom risotto never contained dairy. They were kind enough to not charge us for the poorly cooked food we still paid a pricely sum for our disappointment. I was shocked that so little care was taken over allergies and expected better from a exclusive restaurant. This was a special meal for us to celebrate an anniversary. The whole experience was a disappointment.

Just like that, there are plenty of better restaurants! Probably the weakest Gordon Ramsey restaurant we have ever been to, which is a pity because the location is great

Dreadfully overpriced with awful service. This place doesn't deserve to be in The Savoy. I'm surprised Gordon Ramsay is getting away with it

The restaurant was beautiful! It was a little confusing to find, but everyone was very helpful and kind. We had outstanding service, Julia and Clifford were amazing! They were helpful and kind. Clifford had great suggestions on the menu and was patient when we couldn't make up our mind on which dessert. This was our last dinner in London and we couldn't have been happier with the evening! We had the Monkfish and prawn curry with basmati rice (delicious!) and the fish pie (Great though a little too many peas for me) For dessert we had both Manjari Chocolate & Salted Caramel Delice, Espresso, Popcorn Ice Cream (Phenomenal- the saltiness from the popcorn and the bitterness of the espresso was an awesome combination!) & the Sticky Toffee Pudding, Fior Di Latte Ice Cream (this was an absolute delight and the winner of the the 2 desserts)

Unfortunately I had a bad experience.. I ordered a fish veloute, and found a large fish bone. Obviously I told my waitron . And then wrote an email to which I received no reply... I have been back since as I believe one must always give more than one experience.. but I was disappointed with the service I received.. especially if Gordon had found this in one of his TV programme's I dread to think what he wouldhave said....

My god that beef wellington is to die for. I’ve always wanted to try gordon ramsay’s beef wellington, and if you haven’t tried it yet, I definitely recommend trying it here. Service and atmosphere was top notch as well, and I couldn’t have asked for better service. We ordered some other foods off the menu, but they didn’t come close to the wellington in my opinion.

A very underwhelming experience. It was my wife's 70th birthday celebration and I decided to throw the boat out. Being the Savoy I expected a really personal service and something really special. What we received can only be decribed as run of the mill. Many of the waiting staff were still in training, mix ups in drinks and food orders and to top it all, the 'special celebation treat' did not even arrive. Perhaps I should have booked a table in the Grill!

A nasty restaurant typical of Gordon Ramsay's overpriced food which frankly is no better than high street food. We love the Savoy but this place doesn't belong here. As a guest of the hotel Gordon Ramsay only gets away with selling food because people have the convenience. Very few people return, if any. Don't bother wasting lots of money on this place.

A truly phenomenal restaurant that I enjoyed with my visiting mother. The food was great, though it took a while for it to come to us. The dessert was especially good! Please do get the Toffee pudding dessert, it is delicious.

Went for lunch I had Beef Wellington to die for so so nice . Staff polite and always on hand but not in your face just great service One thing and this is in no way a criticism of the restaurant it’s just this is a prestige restaurant where excellence and quality are abounded but guests on occasion choose very inappropriate foot ware ie trainers I do not think this is acceptable

Food is excellent. Service is too slow, you have to wait ages even for drinks. I don’t like the atmosphere - full of tourists or food bloggers, you don’t have a feeling being in a 5 star hotel restaurant at all.

I wanted to write as we had an amazing time and the most lovely service. The staff were wonderful and not at all as the negative reviews describe. We went on Boxing Day, waiting for about 45 minutes (we expected this) and had such lovely attentive service with our delicious cocktails!
