Ring o Bells in Cheshire West and Chester

We ate and drank at many pubs in our week in the Midlands. The Ring O' Bells was the stand-out!

Quaint , great food with reasonable prices best to book - great in winter with open fire but summer our favourite time after doing any one of Frodshams walks it's lovely to sit jn the garden out the back near the fountain and sip z glass of something cool - famous for beef stroganoff and amazing cheescake

Really cosy local pub.. The food was high quality and fresh. Service friendly and quick and a great selection of beers. Plenty of locals looking in. Definitely worth a visit.

A lovely post NY day walk meal, the soup was particularly delish. Service was great food, soup and turkey tasty good value and served with a smile.

We looked this place up primarily because we needed a dog friendly local pub......we looked at the menu online and it looked wholesome..."proper pub grub"....its cosy the food was exactly what we wanted and the staff were so helpful and welcoming! If we are local again......we would definitely go back....say no more

Just been to the Ring o Bells tonight and had their festive menu. Food was excellent as was the service. Couldn't fault anything 10 out of 10

Such a lovely quaint pub very traditional with lovely surroundings, friendly service & delicious food with lots of choice. We've been coming for years & will continue to do so. Thank you Ring O'Bells, please don't ever change it.

Superb service, great choice on the menu & good atmosphere too. The Christmas menu started yesterday on the 1st of December & we thoroughly enjoyed it! Highly recommend that you book a table in advance. Superb! 👌

The food was good, the place itself is quite quaint and obviously historic. I have one complaint is that the waitresses insist on addressing everyone as "guys" my friend and I ( male and female ) ( 2 ladies on the next table) it's just inappropriate this constant use of the word "guys" they lacked a sense of professionalism and were quite abrupt & tad impolite. However the guy who took our order was very nice and polite.

Great local pub run by passionate people! We have been looking for a local where the connection, conversation and libation satisfy the soul and the tummy! We have always loved the Ringers but been with my sister’s small humans so - “in and out”. The Beef Stroganoff was my go to dish which is and was amazing. But today we “popped” in after a walk and from start to finish it nourished our souls! Jaz served us and she was delightful. So many people in hospitality could learn a thing or two from this young lady. She made our experience fabulous. We had the tandoori chicken and prawns to start. The prawns were extremely well cooked. Stephen was quiet until he completed his dish. Our main course - Stephen had the chicken madras and I had the pie. You could tell we loved the food because we have no photos of any dishes! Anyway we both wanted to say a huge thank you to the whole team, Phil, Adele and Darren at the Ring O Bells. We felt warm, satiated and full of joy.

Loved every second the chef couldn't do enough to make my dietary requirements work!

Very good Sunday roast, fair pricing for meals and good portions. Good old fashioned pub. Went early doors at 6pm nice and quiet and good service.

Had a late night meal at this wonderful olde worlde pub. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. The meals were delicious - highly recommended. Would loved to have stayed longer but we'll be back.

Lovely old fashioned pub. Very busy when we went but got a nice table for two. Very attentive service. Food was better than the average pub meal and good portions. Beer was good too but was driving so could not drink as much as I would have liked !

Spot on pub grub. Even had desert which is unusual for me. Good to see a pub serve propper food rather than chain frozen rubbjsh. Will go again.

Warm welcoming atmosphere in a traditional pub setting. Revisted to try the food. All the dishes were good but no better than 7 out of 10. The staff were really nice and the service was good. Probably would only come for drinks in the future.

Awful meal here, tasted just like it had been pinged in the microwave, not good at all nothing homemade about it sadly. Shame as used to be lovely food.

Nice old fashioned pub, been here a couple of times and impressed both times. If you grab a special off the menu and a pint, expect to pay just over £20 but the food was good and service friendly.

Friendly bar staff let me sample a beer, gave advice. Real ale was nice too my friend said. Lovely garden seating area. Priced well cheaper drinks than bears paw.

My family and I booked for Sunday dinner after a busy afternoon walking round Delamere forest. The staff were lovely and friendly. We had starters and the roast dinner with a mixture of meats which were all delicious. The Biscoff cheesecake was tempting but everyone was too full from lunch but we would definitely return to try it. Thank you x

We had lunch on a week day. We found a shady spot in the garden, ate good food, and drank good beer. Service was friendly, attentive but not intrusive, and efficient.

Nice old fashioned pub with a beautiful beer garden. Food is absolutely amazing and a decent range of drinks. Very reasonably priced.

Went for an evening meal - friendly greeting from staff, very attentive. Ordered the terrine which was lovely- we had salmon which was nice - steak pie described by partner as OK - I had the pasta which was bland and mushrooms were woody. I mentioned it to staff . who asked if ok, because I hadn’t eaten it - I was told they would speak to staff but disappeared they Ididn’t give me any feed back. Unfortunately it’s too far for us to travel for an ok meal.

Stopped in on our way back from Wales after a google search and was really happy with our choice. The pub was perfect for a pint and lunch stop, staff were fantastic and the food was very good for the money. If in the area again I would definitely pop in.

Went here for our evening meal last night as we had been away for a few nights for our wedding anniversary and they did not disappoint. Staff were really friendly and the food was amazing would definitely recommend ❤️

Always delicious food. I meet friends in Frodsham for lunch. There are many places to choose from but we always go the ringer’s because you are guaranteed a gorgeous meal. The menu has lots of choice and everything is cooked to order and really fresh. The building is 400 yrs old and full of charm. The staff are delightful

Was staying overnight locally.and both my partner and I didn't fancy the hotel offering, went for a.d drive and stumbled upon this gem of a pub, on entering was a little bit thrown by the lack of standard lagers but.plumped for the Manchester Craft Lager which turned out to be a great choice (shame we don't get it down South!!!) We enquired if they had a table available for food and they managed to squeeze us in. Food was both plentiful and delicious and price.m was very reasonable. Would highly recommend if in the area and also would look to revisit if we're back this way again.

What an amazing meal we had yesterday at the Ring of Bells for Mother’s Day. All 3 of us went for the Sunday roast consisting of a trio of meats and it was one of the best roasts we have tasted. Desserts were delicious with all 3 of us having something different, sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake and Bakewell. The atmosphere was lovely with a good choice of music that wasn’t too loud. Friendly staff. Love this place. Thank you for helping to make my Mother’s Day special.

We dined here when we stayed for a night in Frodsham. Quite a nice authentic little British pub, with very pleasant staff. We were a little early for our table, but it was ready for us. The food is fresh and tasty and they had a decent children’s menu, which my five-year-old daughter enjoyed a decent size bowl of spaghetti Bolognese from. If you want Gastro pub style food, then I would say this probably just narrowly misses that style but it’s still incredibly good food. Would be very happy if this was my local! Decent prices as well, and once again, staff were lovely, didn’t get the young woman’s name who served us, but she was incredibly busy, but still very patient and well mannered. She was a young woman with piercings and dark hair.

Had lunch after shopping in Frodsham. Lovely meal. Quick service from friendly staff. Piping hot with hot plates so it stayed hot. We both had the lighter bites, thankfully. The portion size was spot on.

Had lunch there today,hadn't booked but was found a table no problem.staff absolutely lovely and very welcoming. Food was soooo nice ,would recommend roast beef Sunday lunch.Home cooked and delicious.warm and friendly pub.ill definitely be returning.

Really welcoming pub, and especially the chap who went out of his way to find us a spot on a busy Wednesday lunchtime. Food was freshly made and served promptly- a fair price too. Best to book next time we visit - and we will be back.

Loved everything about this meal. Warm, friendly pub with great food and lovely staff. They were also very baby friendly which is always a bonus as its stressful taking little ones anywhere.

We called here for lunch on a bitterly cold November afternoon. Although the radiators were warm, the place was very cold and I ate my entire lunch with my coat on. There was a gas stove next to our table, but this was only turned on when my husband commented on how cold it was. The fireplace was full of old cobwebs. We both had the chicken liver pate, which was very nice, and was served with two rounds of proper toast - not the awful crostini you get at a lot of places. My husband had the steak pie, which he said he enjoyed. I had the fillet steak stroganoff with chips, both of which were lacking in taste. The service was not great. I ordered a drink before I ordered the food. However, the waiting on staff did not return to our table to offer me another one. There were no check backs at all during the course of our meal. We gave up waiting to pay the bill, and so paid on the way out. Again, we were not asked if we had enjoyed our food. Quite disappointed. Probably will not return.

Very popular that popular they turned away a booking for 7 for Sunday lunch, unbelievable.

If you want a more expensive than you can do yourself at home, but same quality this is the place for you. Aldi bread for sandwiches and cheap cuts of meat. I agree with other posts the frozen chips come from a basics range in the supermarket. Food was like I can cook at home. Better to save and go elsewhere, plenty to choose from in this area.

Great atmosphere, service food and beer. Met up with family for lunch, not having booked. Tables were moved around to accommodate us. Service was really excellent, food really tasty (my daughter loved the curried parsnip soup) and they accommodated our young children. Pub of the year for good reason

Amazing little pub in Frodsham. Best meal I had in long time. Menu is different from other pubs the prices are reasonable. First time we been and booked for Sunday roast and Xmas. A must go if near Frodsham. The place we will be going to from now on. Staff are great made you feel welcome too

3 of us had a great meals we all had different and enjoyed every thing. The service was very good and friendly. The atmosphere was cosy and comfortable . We will go again.

Do not recommend at all, ordered fish/cod in thyme with beetroot and Parmesan fries! Fish tiny bland and completely tasteless….. at this point we should have complained and left! The fries had never see Parmesan, cheapest of frozen fries and a gelatinous blob of cheese on top, which was more akin to an old piece of cheddar. I could go on, but would be labouring the point as my complaint fell on deaf ears. Will never go there again poor in every respect … staff looked bored to death, with zero customer service …… Don’t waste your money or your time!

I have always recommended this pub for the food in the past as every meal in the previous 3 years was always very good. Been about 12 months since we went last time, however this time I was not overly happy about it. I ordered the Cheese and Onion Pie with chips and veg. First of all found it a little strange it came with gravy but hey ho. The chips were distinctly average without any taste, wouldn't be surprised if they were frozen chips and were soft and not cooked properly, I remember them previously being well cooked hand cut chips which were crispy on the outside. The Cheese pie seemed too perfect to be hand made either and again was full of cheese with little taste and no onion could be found at all. Veg comprised of 4 slices of carrot and 2 small pieces of broccoli. Based on this experience it is not at the same standard as it was for my previous visits. Hope the owners read these reviews so they can rectify things that do go wrong from time to time.
