Arrived early for breakfast and were turned away by rude staff member who said they couldn’t fit us in even though there were multiple tables both inside and out available not even just for a coffee……… funny how you never get turned away when any other member of staff greets you at the door….poor show and won’t be returning even though when they do accommodate you the food and service is usually very good. Very disappointing

Lovely place. My friends and I had been for a very cold swim at Watersedge on Sunday and fancied lunch afterwards. I’d seen this place on Instagram and booked for Sunday lunch (I would advise booking as they were very busy). The staff were all really friendly, attentive and a good laugh. We ordered 2x roast beef and 1 roast chicken and wow the food did not disappoint. We were asked how we would like our beef cooked and it was perfect, it melted in the mouth. The chicken was a hit too. The portions were extremely generous and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such large roast potatoes. We weren’t rushed and our little dog was also welcomed. The grounds are stunning, lots and lots of Christmas trees, a play area for kids and beautiful reindeer. I am very much looking forward to coming back here and would highly recommend Sunday lunch. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

Highly recommended for a brilliant breakfast, which fortified us for our journey back to London today. The Sunrise (full English) was the perfect plateful (amazing local produce) and came with delicious sourdough toast and salted butter. The shakshuka was a riot of spices and eggy goodness, though you'll probably need extra toast for dunkage. Decor is classy, the staff are super-friendly and the music played is far hipper than your usual cafe musak. Very impressed and wish we'd had longer to explore the rest of the menu.

Amazing experience here. We had a beautiful roast beef Sunday lunch! One of the best I’ve ever had.. and as for the sticky toffee pudding.. most definitely the very best! Service was spot on, all the meals were hot and fresh and generous portions. I will definitely recommend.. and I can’t wait to go back.

If you’ve not visited Rise + Grind, you need to! Located in the countryside, you’ll find the perfect brunch spot! Coffee & food were both delicious! Staff were friendly and attentive! The playarea is perfect for children and there are even reindeer on site! There’s also a new homeware shop next door which has just recently opened!

We heard about this place through an article in a local newspaper and am delighted I followed up my curiosity. It’s in a lovely setting for young families with an outdoor play area and the maze in particular was well received by my eldest son! The reindeers also thrilled both of my children and particularly my youngest who is animal mad! I can only imagine how special it is around Christmas. Onto the most important element and the food…it’s absolutely delicious and whilst maintaining the breakfast items you’d expect, the menu also felt quite unique. In fact I enjoyed it so much I returned the following Sunday for a roast dinner. That was even better and the beef in particular was excellent. Special nod as well to the lovely local lager they serve! Recommended!

Wanted to try as heard good reviews from friends, reviews on here made me feel a little dubious. We had a lovely waitress who said she had only been there a week but she was polite and attentive. My husband had the smaller cooked breakfast, tasty and good quality but small. I had the rosti with bacon and avocado. The rosti is 2 small hash browns sized rosti. Tasty but really small for £12. Coffee needs some attention, average at best. Dislike the service charge on a breakfast table of 2. The outside are is lovely especially if you have young children. Was nice-ish. Don't think I will return in a hurry, definitely prefer Toast in flyford.

Saw this place advertised in a local magazine and thought we would give it a try. Excellent. Went about midday on a Wednesday and it was nice and quiet. Waitress extremely pleasant and helpful. Food (chicken salad) plentiful and delicious. We will be back

Lovely cosy cafe especially with a nice log burner which was much needed with the cold wet weather outside. Food was good, service was a little slow and could be improved. Biggest disappointment was the tea - maybe they'd be cleaning the t-pots with something, as certainly had a strange taste.. Note that a service fee is automatically added to bill, which folk probably either miss or embarassed to ask if it can be removed.

Enjoyed a tasty pre Christmas lunch here. The service was attentive and the food good at a reasonable price. As they were out of ice cream the day we visited we were treated to mince pies with our coffee on the house. The home made lemonade was also excellent. Will be back.

So disappointed. This place is local to us and we really wanted to love it. The waitress got our order wrong- we asked for a vegetarian version of the eggs Benedict but it came with sausage patty and bacon bits. She was vaguely apologetic, but having already waited for our food we decided we didn’t want to wait for a replacement (not that she was offering one!). We were sitting directly under the speaker and the music was so loud that it made conversation difficult. We asked for it to be turned down or to move table as the cafe wasn’t busy. If they did turn the music down it was negligible; the waitress didn’t return and offer for us to move table. But the real shocker came when we got home and found that they had added a service charge to the bill. We left a cash tip on the table so they did very well out of us. Overall a sad experience. They missed the opportunity to provide us with a warm welcome and attentive service. We very much disliked the service charge being added without being informed. Sneaky. We won’t be going back.

The food was excellent, the staff were really good. I’m glad I hadn’t read any of the reviews before going as this would have put me off. Yes it’s a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for and there was not one complaint from our group of 8 people.

Nicely furnished and decorated cafe but pricey for what it was. Food was average, but not in line with the cost. Service needs sorting out. They were chasing us to place an order as all our group was still arriving. Then when we all chosen, it was difficult to get hold of anyone to place an order! Also a single (and outside) toilet isn’t really on nowadays.

I visited this week with my friend and our visit was pleasant enough but it was in my opinion rather pricey for what we got. Two lunch meals, 2 soft drinks (beware the coke is a mixer size bottle for £3.50!) and one side came to £41. Also, watch out for the service charge added as standard (I’m sure you can probably ask to remove this but I didn’t notice until after paying). I’m used to a service charge being added to large tables or on special days like Christmas Day but not on a standard Wednesday lunchtime for 2 people…

Booked at 11.30 with 3 families. Was told upon arrival that their breakfast menu ends at 11.30 and lunch menu didn't start until 12.15!!! So why take take bookings for a time when no menu is available to order from. Major oversight! In addition, the lady we spoke to was extremely rude and made it seem to be our problem. Definitely won't be returning

Visited Rise and Grind with family and friends and were let down from start to finish by the poor service. Waited 20 minutes to order food and drinks with the food then taking another 45 minutes to arrive. During this time we were not approached to order more drinks or even a courtesy check in to say they were really busy and food would take a little longer to arrive. When I asked how long food would be the waitress seemed put out that I’d asked or why it would be an issue. We had 3 very small children with us and it’s only because I’d brought snacks with me that they didn’t get upset. To top it off they then put a service charge on our bill. We paid it because we were in a rush to see Santa - we were late because the food had taken so long to arrive. Really disappointed

I took my wife for breakfast for the first time to Rise & Grind, it was my first visit whereas my wife has become a bit of a regular, frequently visiting with her friends. The day we went (Sunday 10th December) was a ridiculously busy day as people were either buying Christmas trees or seeing Father Christmas, the atmosphere was magical even in the pouring rain! We'd booked a table in advance, the restaurant was packed out, we were shown to our table by a friendly guy, within a few minutes we were asked what drinks we'd like (Latte and Americano) which came super quick even though it was so busy. We placed our orders for breakfast, which came within 15 minutes which was a surprise considering how busy it was! I opted for the English Sunrise Breakfast and my wife had her favourite Vegan Breakfast. Both of our breakfasts were delicious, generous and of superb quality! The coffee was excellent too! So much so we had to have another one each! A lovely visit of which the previous negative reviews don't seem to match, the whole team showed they can cope under immense pressure and still offer excellent service! Definitely recommend, it was very good value for money, and we’ll also be going back time and time again.

Lovely setting but sadly not enough staff. We had booked in advance which is imperative. It took over 45 minutes to get the coffees served and food was served at varying intervals with most finishing their meal before one of our group had been served theirs. The staff of 2 (serving) worked very hard but they were simply overwhelmed by the numbers of clients. Coffee were very nice, food about average. We may visit again but at quieter time.

Appaling customer service. The most disappointing visit to rise and grind. We arrived 10 minutes late due to factors outside our control and we attempted to call to inform them of this numerous times, but there was no answer. When we arrived, they seated us and we waited 20 minutes at the table to then be told that they could no longer serve us breakfast, as the lunch service was about to start. The waiter gave us no warning of this when we arrived and no apology was given. What made it worse was the couple who arrived at the same time as us (with no booking) were served breakfast. The waiter was extremely rude and showed no remorse when we had told him we travelled 40 minutes to visit for breakfast. The lovely setting is let down by the rude staff and awful customer service. I will not be returning

What a delight rise and grind is. Bought my mum for a coffee. Very friendly staff. Really cute that the reindeers are close by too. There’s a really nice shop called caribou next to it but not open on a Wednesday when we were here.

Food was quite bad. We have had 2 different dishes with chicken, in both of them chicken tasted old and was hard and rubbery. 3rd dish was lamb - meat was ok but full of fat, mash was ok but the sauce was completly without any flavour, tasted like water and tomato paste. Waiter did not listen to anything we said, every time when we tried to talk to him he was smiling, being polite but walking away.

I had the doubtful joy to have a meal from Chillies on 30.12. Food was ordered at 5pm, but the delivery appeared at the doorstep 1,5h later. Received food was cold and I didn’t receive the order in full. Also, I have to point out, that meals were expensive - £12.00 for tandoori prawns and honestly it felt like half of the portion was missing (I got just 5 “naked” prawns and of course for the rice I had to pay separately). The other meals didn’t look like they were made upon the order… I really wouldn’t recommend this place.

Food awful. Very very very greasy so could not finish meal. We were a new customer and will be going back to our normal place. Receptionist over charge for mushroom rice (even though with a curry it's £1, on menu), she then argued and said we were wrong, clearly written on menu, very overpriced for what you get, 4 spring rolls are £6.50 and they are mini ones. Only given one star because we could not post with none.....
