Riverside Cafe in Staffordshire Moorlands

Delicious food! Staying at Crowtrees caravan site and had takeaways twice. Fish, chips and peas for hubby and seafood pizza for me first night, very tasty, quality food, good service. Tonight we’ve had liver and onions and chicken curry, both with chips, so impressed - both meals were delicious!

Fish and chips on a Friday night. We were staying at crowtrees campsite, so thought we would give it a go. Lovely thick pieces of haddock, chips were cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. Kids had sausages and enjoyed them, we all tried the curry sauce too. Value for money and portions were good too.

The menu alone has more ideas than a PE teacher will have in a lifetime. Fish & chips, burgers, omelettes, chicken... it goes on and on. And it's all tasty! The owner is a fun dude who hires friendly people and the surrounding town is improved by having such a nice 'n tasty place at it's heart.

Absolutely fantastic fish chips and peas and really really welcoming nice couple owned restaurant found thus by accident.it seems the local residents keep this place to themselves couldn't recommend a visit here enough if you want fantastic own home cooked quality plus really good value for money.you should visit here fish chips peas twice cup of tea can of pop £18 in a sit down restaurant with outstanding lovely chips cooked to perfection where else could you go

This venue must get the prize for the worst fish and chip shop in the country. The chips were utterly revolting and the fish was so thin even the batter was thicker. Do not go to this shop

We had haddock and chips tonight. It was absolutely delicious! I recommend it without reservation. First class food, prompt and polite service, good value, and a lovely chat with other customers. Thank you Abersalt!!

Having called in several times on my way home from Nottingham, it just gets better. The proprietor apologised for the wait…. I don’t mind waiting for the excellent chips! And Fishcake was superb . Such a shame it’s not local.

Not only is the owner the nicest guy you could wish to meet, his food is excellent. We had fried chicken and chips and scampi and chips both really good. We will definitely return next time we're in the area.

Chips were quite nice. Kebab was shocking to say the least. I wouldnt feed it my dog. 9.50 for some thin burnt scrap ends of 'kebab meat' and some black chicken. Not really service with a smile either. Wont be returning to say the least and wish i could get my money back. Not what i wanted after a hard days work

Greasy spoon sounds bad. It's not at all. This is a lovely "chippy" that serves a whole variety of great fried foods all day long. if you are walking nearby, this is a perfect energy boost. Very friendly people, great value and a lot of choice on the menu. Eat in or out. I commend the lambs' liver which is sourced locally, but my friends all had different dishes which they polished off completely. I will definitely go back - quite soon.

A fish and chip shop without Cod, Cash only, ok as long as you find out before getting served, Greasy chips, Miserable staff

Great little find 400m walk from car park at end of walk. Looks a bit grim from outside and no immediate parking outside. Great menus from kebab, special omelettes to burger and chips. Clean. Good loo

Gorgeous portion of chips,peas gravy to take away to accompany a steak pie which was cooking in the oven. Highly recommend

Called here today for fish and chips, we were pleasantly surprised to see they had a seating area so we chose to eat in. Cafe is spotlessly clean, fish and chips were gorgeous,best I have had in a while. Would definitely recommend.

Chips from this place looked old and re-heated. That bad I never ate them just binned them. I'd of gone back for my money back but it wasn't worth my fuel as I was just passing. Yuk!!

Visited this take away whilst staying at nearby camp site. Very disappointing. The cod was thin and off-White in colour with thick batter of cardboard consistency. The chips were a greasy bag of potato 'bits'. Needless to say neither us nor our fellow visitors used the cafe again. I can only presume the business survives on passing trade. Spend your well earned cash on an alternative tasty meal.....see next review!

Came across this whilst camping nearby. Looked at the numerous good reviews on here and went ahead with a sizeable family order. Whilst the "chip shop meals" pie n chips etc were adequate the kebabs were definitely not. At £7.50 the mixed kebab was a box of dried up donna and very grissely lamb, the kofta was not cooked thru so most of it got left. Will certainly try again on future visits but probably stick to the chip shop side of the menu.

this is a bit above average take away/café.it is always busy as the food is cooked fresh when ordered.staff are pleasant and friendly.

Puede no parecer mucho desde el exterior, pero el dueño es maravilloso y acogedor. Las patatas fritas eran deliciosos y así fue la pizza que él mismo hace. Hay una pequeña zona con mesas, así que puedes comer en el restaurante o para llevar.Hicimos un ligero desvío a visitar en el camino de vuelta a casa de Alton Towers y espero entrar de nuevo algún día.

Este lugar sirve comida básica pero fabuloso. Nada era demasiado problema para el personal. Como había muchos de nosotros queríamos ligeras variaciones en el menú. El personal no esta sin enganche y la orden era perfecto. Cuando tienes un grupo grande de gente con niños comida básica buena es necesario. Vaya aquí no te decepcionará.

Very nice until I spoke, I am extremely polite and well mannered and always have been, from Manchester and stopped for me and my girlfriend on the way to dovedale, "salt and vinegar"? ...please love, nowt said after that point except...eleven pound....9quid more or less thrown in my hand as change. Enough said.

We had a Pizza, and some Chips to share. We were told the dough was made fresh that day and it didn't disappoint, really tasty pizza, I would go as far as to say, better than some of the upmarket chain pizza restaurants. I also love traditional hand cut chips, so that was a bonus.Very friendly service, our food was made after we ordered, but did not wait at all long, and a bargain.

Doesn't look much, but a hidden delight. Once you get inside, the food, service (and especially my coffee that day) are excellent

Firstly, salty is not a laugh - miserable and asks what you want 5 times whilst struggling to understand you. His sidekick is about as friendly as a bag of nettles and facial expressions remind me of a bag of smashed crabs. Food was average but wouldnt feed my dog the chicken. Lovely setting.

Visited again this week and was exactly as great as it was last time, the food was hot, fresh and delicious and the staff were happy to help at anything, great prices too!Will be back

I have used this place a lot over the years - and today I introduced the wife. From the outside it's a chippy BUT there is a large room for eating in just in case that Derbyshire weather gets a tad inclement (was lovely tonight though!), Had chips and curry and pop - was all we wanted and the chips were piping hot and the curry sweet - cost under a fiver for the chips and two cans of pop - not bad!Will be back!

Situated in the quaint village of Waterhouse this place is a delight to eat at, the staff are friendly and welcoming, the food is fresh and cooked perfectly, great atmosphere and well priced. Great place to eat with friends and family, will be visiting again soon :)

We always get the best of service. The food is served fresh, tasty and hot and the staff are always kind and friendly.

Called ahead and let Salty (the owner) know we needed a big order. He was more than happy to cook up loads of portions of food. He's a happy chappy that is just pleased to serve you quality food with a smile and a joke. Despite this place set out in the village of Waterhouses (near Leek), it's worth the trip. The food is well cooked, more than plentiful, and such quality (such deep fish meat).
