We had afternoon tea at Robun to treat a friend and it was the perfect choice. All the staff were super efficient and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was all delicious; a wonderful range of different dishes across their menu and all presented so beautifully. It was a wonderful pre-Christmas treat. Having recently had afternoon tea at The Royal Crescent, this was such a refreshing change from the ubiquitous finger sandwiches and scones and sugar overload.

Sadly I would not return to Robun or recommend it. We booked in for the Japanese’s high tea for a special anniversary and we were massively disappointed. Though the staff were lovely and friendly and attentive, and the presentation of the food was creative, the food was completely lacking in any flavour whatsoever. The chicken was incredibly dry and could have used some sort of dipping sauce, the sushi was completely basic and bland, no soy sauce just fish on dry rice, and the bao buns were completely under whelming. Nothing interesting or remarkable about any of it. The teas were nice but nothing special and we got a small glass of sparkling sake on the house as it was our anniversary. We honestly couldn’t believe they were charging £30 a head for this. We were in and out in 40 mins and deeply upset that we felt so ripped off after we’d read so many good reviews about Robun and we’re excited to celebrate our special day there.

Best sushi/sashimi in Bath and the surrounding area. Sure it’s not cheap, but the type of cuts and quality of the fish is way better than any other Japanese restaurant this side of London. Also shout out to Bea for service. Eaten here 10+ times and she was the best waitress so far.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful, they made some recommendations which were excellent and very accurate in their description. Had some miso rolls to start, crab and prawn, both were delicious. Had teriyaki salmon and lamb chops for mains. Both were beautifully cooked with wonderful flavours. The decor and crockery were all well "themed" and the result was a lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Had a look online. I was planning to come for lunch with my wife and daughter. Haven't made any bookings, but online slots where avaible, so just went ahead and went to the place. A really cold welcome, i have asked for table of 3 people, we been told we cant have a lunch, because all chefs are on a brake, but the place is still open and operating. We haven't something like that for long time you open door for guest, but you cant serve them, because all chefs same time are on a brake. Worst expirience. I would not recommend anyone to go unless you happy to wait untill chefs finish their breaks. Recommendation - shut the doors in the future.

I went online to look at their opening times and also the reservation availability and decided to just walk there instead of making reservation on open table to help the restaurant by not paying cover fee / booking fee at 15:40. Venue online advertising afternoon tea and regular menu. Upon arrival, I was informed that they were unable to accommodate me and my daughter because the chefs were on break. This was incredibly frustrating as my 8 year-old was looking forward to some quality time and sushi. It's unacceptable for a restaurant to turn away customers especially when it seems like poor planning on their part. Empty restaurant with two managers hovering at the bar and a bartender. Was offered no apology I did reiterate the times on open table and was very much told oh well come back at 5:30 no thanks not waiting almost two hours.

When we got there we got told that our names weren't even down for reservation. Even tho we had called in advance to confirm. Then we were seated at an absolutely tiny table with cheap looking disposable chopsticks. As for the food we had the takoyaki, karaage, rice and the pork ribs and each one was aweful. The takoyaki was no where near the right texture nor flavour, the karaage batter was so hard that you'd think it was something from a frozen meal. The pork ribs were dry and frankly not seasoned nearly enough. Furthermore the servers were dressed so poorly that if one of the poor girls had bent over, her whole private area would be on display. A tiny black mini skirt and a button up shirt that looks 2 sizes too small. They call this place a "tribute" to an authour which just sounds insensitive and frankly quite rude due to the appalling quality of just the entire restaurant. If anything, I hope this place closes down permanently.

Mixed bag here. They have had a great idea for this restaurant - the decor is wonderful and the menu looks great but the execution in the kitchen is not quite where it needs to be. The Spicy Edamame have a hot sauce squirted all over them...no subtlety to this dish at all and messy as hell to eat. The Karage Chicken was a little undercooked and not at all crisp on the outside. Finally we had the Iberico Pork Ribs, which while it came in a dome full of smoke (see photo), was somewhat lacklustre in flavour. If you haven't been to Japan as many times as me, you might like it here and the service was great, but it's not for me...it wasn't full, so you have to wonder if Bath hasn't already come to the same conclusion.

Probably the best restaurant in Bath. First, the food. All served fresh, and you can tell from the taste alone. A great range of options, all of which are excellent value for money, so you can tailor your experience to any budget. The bento boxes for lunch are very reasonably priced and serve as an excellent introduction to Japanese cuisine. Meanwhile the tasting menu is perfect for special occasions and the sake pairings are to die for! Service wise- staff are friendly and welcoming without being intrusive- clearly professionals who care for their craft! Also a special shout out to the many theatrics featured on the menu, something which many restaurants shy away from these days. Highly recommend the lamb cutlets if you’re looking for wow factor, and the rum blazer to finish! Will be back.

We tried the taster menu, which looked very good, but with 1 vegetarian, 1 pescatarian, 1 coeliac, the food service was problematic. We had sharing dishes that didn't match the dietary requirements and on 1 occasion, one of our party had nothing to eat, which the restaurant did resolve. The person that needed strict gluten free had to keep asking the specific dishes were GF and on one occasion a miso soup was served and 5 minutes later the staff came out with a GF version. Luckily the coeliac hadn't yet started theirs. From the taster menu a whole wine round was missed but was rectified. In terms of the food the starter of edamame beans was very nice as was the black cod and wagyu beef. The dessert for the coeliac was limited to sorbet only, but they had some great flavours. They just need to cater for all dietary needs on the taster menu, but on a positive note the staff were very aware of the issues they and we were facing.

Very pleasant environment excellent service from staff who could explain the menu to first time diner's in Japanese cuisine. Three of us tried 5 alternative dishes of fish and beef and of course prawns in rice sushi style. The flavours were delicious and presentation excellent but the style of sharing plates does not appeal to me and chop sticks and me never get on well. I presume this is fine dining with a fine dining price ticket so dine out in a large group to spread the cost.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an absolutely amazing experience at Robun! From the moment we walked in, Tah (apologies if I’m spelling his name wrong) made us feel incredibly welcome. We were greeted with complimentary bubbles as soon as we arrived, which was a lovely touch. Despite the restaurant being busy and our food taking a bit longer to arrive, Tah’s kindness and passion for hospitality truly stood out. He treated us like royalty, making the wait enjoyable. Coming from a restaurant background myself, I have to say this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in the UK. The dining room was infested with fruit flies (Sept. 1st) which is unacceptable for a place that expensive. What a great restaurant. Two of us had lunch here and it was excellent. We both had miso soup to start. It was a good soup and the tofu was tasty; not always easy with tofu. I had the vegetarian bento box and it was superb. The gyoza were prepared a bit differently to the way they're usually served in Japan and they were good. Great to have edamame bean pods, something I really associate with Japan. Everything was delicious. The ribs and aubergine were very good. Several items on the menu I couldn't eat because they had chilli or looked on the spicy side. Chilli is not something I encountered in Japan so the menu feels like it's been tailored for Western tastes which is understandable but a little disappointing from my personal perspective. Tasted like they'd been out all day and reheated. The bao Buns hardly contained any meat and we're a bit disappointing. Buns tasted fresh, but bit underwhelming. We had a really friendly and helpful waitress who helped massively with our decisions and was lovely. The atmosphere was good. I might try again for smaller plates, but not as good as it could be.

Not worth the price at all, massively overhyped. We booked through First Table, which gave us 50% off and we did this in particular because we had heard Robun was overpriced. The spicy fried chicken was excellent. However, the 20 piece sushi set (shown in photo) was severely underwhelming and at regular price it was £42, and it did not match the price at all. When the bill came, we found the food was worth it with the 50% off, however not so at regular price. Service was good and not busy at 6pm. Probably would not return.

Being celiac Japanese restaurants who are willing to cater for me are thin on the ground. We knew it was a busy spot so had asked for a table out of the way and the at was also done. The staff at Robun were extremely helpful and understanding, going the extra mile. The food was great, with Bang Bang Broccoli being the surprise hi light of the night. I couldn’t fault it.

Firstly, Japanese is my favourite cuisine and I loveee sushi. I’ve been here twice now, both times using First Table so that I pay half price, and to be honest even at half price I don’t think that it’s worth it. Robun is trying to be fancy/expensive but it really isn’t good enough to justify it and the small portions. One time I ordered the wagyu and got 5 thin slices that tasted nothing like the glorious melt in mouth taste that Wagyu is. I’d say it’s very average and certainly wouldn’t pay full price

Really good quality food and service. We tried 8 dishes all of which were delicious. Too much for the two of us to share so the team boxed them up for us to have for lunch the following day. Would recommend and would visit again.

In short, everything was overcooked, but some things more than others. There's a Wagamama directly opposite Robun, do yourself a favour and eat there for much better food and much better value. The lamb cutlets were the biggest issue as they were really tough. At £19.50 for 2 tiny cutlets, I was expecting something pretty special. Half of the Chicken gyoza's were burnt on the outside, although, the ones that were not burnt were actually very nice. The duck (at £35 for 1 breast) was very overcooked and also tough. In my opinion, rib meat should fall off the bone and shouldn't have to be cut away at which was the case here although the flavour was pretty good. The spicy chicken karaage was OK but as was the rice but nothing to write home about. When a server asked how our food was (by which time we'd only eaten the karaage and half a cutlet each) we informed them that the cutlet was tough. The response was "I'll let the chef know". I think the correct response should have been to offer to take the food back but that didn't happen. When asking for the bill later, a different server asked how everything was and I replied with something like "average at best as all the meat was tough or overcooked". The only response was "oh, I'm sorry to hear that". It wasn't a total disaster but for somewhere that's a bit pricey, I expected much better. And finally... A server told us that she and the other servers do not receive their tips in full but they are in fact distributed throughout the whole company. So her bosses take a share of her tips and so do her managers etc. Absolutely disgusting way to treat staff.

The food was delicious, presentation and service were great. We went for lunch and the prices were appropriate. This restaurant offers a fine dining experience preserving most of the traditional Japanese ingredients. I think the only problem is that they need to make it clear to all customers that they are neither a traditional Japanese restaurant nor a Japanese fast food restaurant, but a fine-dining Japanese restaurant.

I booked Robun for a meal to celebrate my husband's 40th Birthday. My husband is a vegan and I was so impressed with the vegan selection. We ordered all the dishes from the vegan menu and they were incredible especially the bang bang broccoli, vegan bao buns (the smoked aubergine in them was a taste sensation!!), sticky mushroom rice and another dish which I can't remember the name of but it had a teriyaki like sauce and it was simply incredible. The staff literally could not have been nicer. We felt so well looked after. I had a mocktail which was also out of this world. It's not a cheap place to eat but I will definitely be returning for special occasions and will recommend to friends. Thanks so much for such a special evening and delicious food.

The service was slow and awkward, main brought before starter, waited ages to order or to get food even though they were not busy, the steak was abysmal, £49 for a terribly tasting steak that I had to spit out into a napkin as it was cold and slimy and tasted rotten. When I finally got someone to come over with the bill the card machine was practically shoved in my face with no checking how the food was even though the steak was very much still on the table uneaten. After I had paid she asked me if everything was okay with the food, AFTER I already paid. And she had cleared the £49 steak and saw it was uneaten. Never coming back here again. I work hard all month to give myself and my daughter one nice day out each month and we wanted to try a new place. So much money wasted on something we did not enjoy or even eat.

Never again. Overpriced and under quality. Booked weeks ago. Arrived and table wasn't ready. Two of the three chef signature dishes were not available, neither were a few other dishes. Food arrived out of order with starters and mains missing together. The food was not even lukewarm, the lamb was cold. The rice was dry and the sushi pieces were tiny and below average quality. Wish we had gone to Wagamama. Cheaper and much better quality food.

Disappointing. Too expensive for quality. We paid 98£ for this and the rice was undercooked. Small plates for such a big bill.

Spent around £160 on a take away for 4 people and we were all still very hungry afterwards. Lamb was a little chewy and meat on the ribs was virtually nonexistent. Sliders were bland, sweet potatoes fry’s and popcorn shrimp would have maybe filled up a 6month old. Was shocking to see how little food at average quality could cost so much money. Extremely disappointing!!

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and great drinks! However, the small plates were very small for the price, and the scallops were not cleaned well.
