Rockfish Weymouth in Weymouth and Portland

On this occasion we fancied fish and chips so we both had the haddock fillet with chips. Obviously quite a bit more expensive than the local chippies but it was as good fish and chips as we ever have - really generous portion of haddock, beautifully fried in a light, crispy batter. It made up for a not perfect meal in our last visit. We are happy to go back frequently in the future. One very minor negative; they had quite a few zero/low alcohol drinks but no low alcohol cider

Amazing restaurant, lovely inside and out. Really great food and very nice,friendly helpful staff. Spoilt for choice on their menu. Will definitely come back when in Weymouth again. If you love fish you will love eating here.

Popped by when I was solo tripping Weymouth, always looked and thought I’d try! Got the bacon and egg bap which was superb, and the coffee was amazing!

This restaurant surpassed our expectations this evening. I cannot thank the lovely staff enough. The waitress who served us all night could not do enough for us. After finding out my sister had her birthday today, they sang happy birthday to her. That is before I mention the superb food. Oh my goodness. I was blown away by the wonderful experience. Thoroughly recommend this lovely restaurant.

We've had some great meals in various branches of Rockfish over the years and the Weymouth operation rarely disappoints. A brill served last time we went remains a strong memory. Sadly, our most recent visit was a disappointment. If they are going to plug Dover Sole so strongly then they need to be sure that what they serve lives up to it, but the two sole we were served were a rip-off, frankly. As a previous Brixham resident I've eaten enough sole to recognize the ones that shouldn't find their way onto a plate - and these just weren't the size or thickness to justify the £40 price tag. A point reinforced rather when the Rockfish web site, which I use regularly to buy fresh fish, offered me four of them for £50 one day later. Never mind. The overall ambiance and the welcome and friendliness of the staff still make this a restaurant worth visiting and normally we find the various fish offered as specials justify the prices. Mitch Tonks is to be praised to the skies for opening the door for people to eat good, fresh fish on a regular basis and despite this rather mixed review I'd encourage you to try Rockfish if you haven't already. Just don't believe all the hyperbole about the sole!

Wow wow wow what an experience! The staff were brilliant with such a warm welcome. Great selection of wines and literally one of the best meals we’ve ever had. The seafood platter was amazing, cooked to perfection with a wonderful selection of fresh fish. Will definitely be going back again 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My husband and I booked for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. We ordered a nice bottle of wine, then he had the Oysters and I had the Calamari. He then had the Doversole and I had the Hake. After leaving the restaurant he started feeling unwell and we had to return to our hotel. After laying down for an hour, he was violently sick, and again after about 20 minutes when he passed out. Rockfish response was negative

Best oysters and locally farmed! Fantastic food and service. My wife is also vegetarian and she had the tacos with tempura artichokes which were lovely.

Superb food and service. Had 3 course option for around £28 per person. Food was stunning. Only criticism was that I wanted more potatoes, felt it was a stingy portion. However gave five stars because every part of the meal was cooked to perfection and tasted sublime. Did pass on my comments to serving staff. Definitely return

Helpful and friendly, although it is card only.

DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE DIETARY REQUIREMENTS. They served meat to my vegetarian friend who regrettably ate some prior to realizing, and they served gluten bread to my other friend who is intolerant of gluten. When we raised that the waitress didn't seem sure which was gluten free and which was vegetarian they told us they were sure the meals (which were two different meals) had been prepared the right way round. They replaced the vegetarian meal, and the vegetarian patty on the new version looked COMPLETELY different (photo attached - the left was what she was initially served, the right was the replacement, they were trying to convince us that these were two examples of exactly the same product from the same company). They wouldn't admit the mistake and instead chose to keep lying. They refunded us one meal. Will be reporting to FSA. We remained polite throughout, as did they - the manager seemed approachable but had no idea the gravity of the error and didn't handle the situation well at all. Would advise all to stay away.

Great place to eat. Unfortunately in October 2024 marketing offers 2 for 1 burgers after 5 pm Thursdays.......but beware they currently close at 4 pm. Wasted journey, hence reduced from 5 to 3 stars.

Awesome place, lovey service, tasty breakfast, probably going to regret drinking a pint and a half of delicious ice coffee before the 4 hour drive home. See you next year!

Fantastic. Hot chocolates to die for

Fish tacos were outstanding. Lots of fresh fish options according to their availability on the day. Although fully booked indoors, I was accommodated outside on a fine September evening.

Visited here for the first time whilst on holiday in Dorset late August, celebrating my wife's birthday. On arrival we were made to feel welcome and relaxed. Our waitress (sorry if this is a non-PC description these day)s, Ella, talked us through the menu drawing little fishes around today's fresh fish offerings, a nice and novel touch. Ella made an effort to make us all feel welcome, acknowledged my wife's birthday, and had some banter with the kids having been impressed with my 12 year old's confident (and particular) ordering (adding this as a memory jogger in case she reads this review!). The food arrived in good time, well presented and delicious. Between us we had fish tacos, mackerel, limitless chips (they're good) and chicken Milanese. All tasted fresh and well cooked, couldn't fault any of it. Not the cheapest place to eat but you get what you pay for, and we were all happily full and satisfied with the food and service. Next time we're in Weymouth we'll visit again that's for sure.

Excellent place for fresh fish - my whole brill was absolutely amazing with a perfect complimentary sauce. The idea of writing the fish available each day on your place mat (with price) is novel and quite entertaining. Do book, it was very busy even mid week. Downside, no sauvignon blanc available and although the picpoul was lovely it did not have the 'ooh' of sauvignon. Also no crab to crack - a personal favourite.

Top tier service. Had the fish and chips and sea bream. Was exceptional. Was served by a nice person called Kayleigh who made sure we were looked after. Would highly recommend!

Loved this place. It was busy so worth booking to ensure you get a table. Delicious fresh seafood. Friendly attentive staff.

Great trendy bar/cafe but a bit pricey

We just walked in and went to the counter and all the staff completely blanked us. We were there for about 3 minutes and they all ignored us and continued chatting among themselves. I found this service appalling.

Sadly this place looks like they do amazing food but after trying 4 times and booking I have yet to experience any as we got there and they weren't doing food, then they were doing a themed evening so not doing food, then we got there and it was too early for food and freak shakes, then we booked thinking this would solve the problem only to get a message 45mins to the booking time saying they weren't doing food although we did get freak shakes which were nice. Overall the staff were friendly and the venue is quiet and relaxed but with all the signs up showing the food it would have been nice to actually get some of the loaded hot dogs etc. sadly my god son was very disappointed and so was I. Luckily Bosco helped us out even at busy times where we had food every time we were let down by caffeine.

Disappointing that the 2 for 1 burger offer was only available if you pre-booked, they should make that clear in the advert

Currently recovering from food poisoning after eating here today. Service was great, atmosphere was great but after having the Hash tower which tasted a little cold for a fresh meal, i am now feeling really poorly and there can’t recommend. I feel i should ask for a refund but i doubt there is any point. Shame.

Wonderful food. Try the Shakshuka for something a little different. Staff are very polite and friendly. A great place to eat if you're visiting for the day

Had brunch here, and it was refreshing to see that this lovely little place offered such good food, and it was definitely a cut above the run of the mill seaside eateries. Had the hash smash and avocado smash, delicious. Staff were uber friendly, helpful, and lovely to chat to. Unlike the previous 'sour grapes' review, I'll definitely be returning and totes recommend if you like good bistro food, lovely coffee, and a friendly atmosphere.

Place was filthy. Tables were full of crumbs, knife and forks dirty, menus full of grease. Stairs to the toilets looked liked they haven’t been cleaned in weeks. It wasn’t exactly busy so could have been cleaning instead of chatting. Table next to us said the exact same thing.

Lovely restaurant! Went for brunch twice with dad on holiday. Highly recommend French toast. Nice tea as well. 10 out of 10.

Stopped here yesterday for breakfast. It did not disappoint. The food was excellent and the staff were super friendly to our two little dogs. We will be back. The French toast is AMAZING!

Vreselijk slecht en super duur. Wij bestelden een fruit de mer voor 2 personen….droge mosselen, smakeloos gambas uit de diepvries, nog wat schelpjes uit blik. Het enige wat vers lijkt was de krab maar ook niet echt zeker. Zeer deprimerend maaltijd en met een dessert die wel ok was 145 pond !

Visited the Isle of Portland for my birthday. Most of the restaurants were closed, so we asked someone who recommended Rockfish in Weymouth. The host was nice and gave us directions of the best place to park. Our waitress, Hannah, was very pleasant. The fish and chips 🍟 was very tasty and I loved the fact that all the food was served hot, the way I like it. I would highly recommend it.

Fantastic experience, not cheap but worth every penny, it's great that in addition to the set menu, your table mat has all the possible catches of the day and today's catch and it's current price. Absolutely delicious

If you're looking for superb food, excellent service, attention to detail and a great atmosphere, then look no further - Rockfish has it all. This was my first visit - I'm local and can't believe I've missed this little gem. I'll definitely be back! Went there for dinner with 2 friends. The warm and friendly welcome at the door set the scene for the evening. Anna, who waited on our table, was just lovely. Very knowledgeable about the fish of the day, and very happy to answer any questions we had about the 'Specials', or the regular menu. There was lots of choice. I can highly recommend the Rockfish Tacos - absolutely delicious - they came as a serving of 3 corn tortillas, stuffed and overflowing with a generous portion of Rockfish in each one. I had honeycomb Gelato for dessert - simply scrumptious. If I could leave a 10 star review I would, and I don't say that lightly. The decor was lovely, and you must visit the loos. No, really, you must. No awful music at Rockfish; you get the 'shipping forecast', but it's like no other shipping forecast you've ever heard. Hilarious. Rockfish, you rock! Everything surpassed my expectations. My compliments to the chef and staff.

Booked a head as it was bank holiday weekend, this was easy and our table was ready on arrival. The menu had lots of verity and loved the fish of the day options pointed out by the staff on the place mats. My son tried white bate for the first time and is hooked. The food was lovely with big portions. We also had the Rockfish own lager (Piddle) which went down really well in the sun

Great location across from the beach. We had excellent service and a very good meal. I ordered the mussels; they were delicious and almost too many for a serving!

Everything was excellent from the moment we booked, right through to the service we received whilst enjoying the meal. Service was friendly and with a smile. Food was excellent can fully recommend the Monkfish Tails. If you want a special fish meal out, complete with excellent customer service, then Rockfish is the one. Not the cheapest but well worth it.

Beautiful sea bream and Greek salad. Appreciated the attention given to an allergy to scallops. Very pleasant seaside decor. Very good and friendly service.

This is an outstanding restaurant in a great location - facing Weymouth bay and the perfect seaview. They only serve fresh fish which is sourced down the road in Brixham. We had the monkfish and dover sole and it delivered a fantastic meal. The starters were equally good as we had squid and scallops. The staff are really welcoming and the online booking experience is easy. The restaurant is very clean and the toilets are first class (always a key test for me).

With the demise of Loch Fyne it is good to find a chain (all be it small) of ‘mid-range’ fish orientated restaurants. We had just under a week in Weymouth & having eaten there on the Sunday returned on the Monday & Thursday. The fixed ‘sustainable’ menu plus a range of locally caught fish main dishes was very good & well prepared. Service too was generally good. Certainly based on our experience we would not hesitate to dine at any Rockfish restaurant were we in the area.

2nd visit this week , after reviewing 10 other restaurants appetisers ,sides ,main,pudding and reactions to no tip ,this came first ,we had a very hefty bill and left no tip, each course was perfectly cooked ,the 2nd visit the same ,this restaurant is absolutely the best ,scallops were just perfect, sticky toffee pudding x2 each ,we had amazing service amazing food and not leaving a tip made no difference when we turned up for lunch sorry guys but it was part of our review .

The bacon was not as described and was cold

I was with my fiance and 2 friends, when one of my friends bought everyone a drink (2 ciders, a beer and a coffee). The bar employee brought the drinks and we all started drinking. A couple minutes later, she came back and IDed my friend (the one who bought the drinks), who did not have ID with him. 3 of us are 27 and 1 of us is 32. She then proceeded to say my friend couldn't drink his beer and then the system for card refunds didnt even work, so she refunded my friend in cash. Additionally, they didn't serve any food. Just appalling service. We are not against ID-ing. It is just that the employee did not ask prior to us buying the drinks: she poored them, brought them over and then she IDed my friend. Just brought such a bad mood to our lovely day.

We came across this place on our first night in Weymouth and I’m pleased we did. The food was great and so was the service, the team couldn’t have been any more accommodating for our family of four plus dog. The seafood was excellent and based on this experience we’d definitely come back here, or visit any of the others in the group

Amazing place to eat if you're visiting weymouth- don't miss out! Food is fantastic- the new menu is absolutely perfect. Good coffee and choice of different bean which is great. Couldn't recommend this place more.

Fantastic dinner. Great service, very reasonably priced food. Two of our group had Monkfish- they were fantastic! One had the ray wing- it was lovely. Child had from the kids menu -grilled cod with chips - was amazing. Another adult had Vegetarian Tacos- Absolutely Lush. We come here often and have quite literally never gad a bad meal. Love it!

You must try out the new menu!! The food is amazing and different to anything else in weymouth. Coffee is lovely (I prefer the single origin to the house blend) and cocktails even better. If you are visiting weymouth do not miss out.

A bar great to have a drink in with a nice atmosphere but they need to change their chef. We paid a pricey £17 for a pot of tea for two and 2 bagels with bacon chicken and avocado. . The bagels were virtually inedible. The small few bits of chicken were tough and the bacon was very over cooked and was like cardboard. I had to leave half of it. It had obviously been badly cooked in a microwave.

What an amazing Restaurant, excellent menu choice, very friendly staff, Lots to chose from, also dog friendly, Some quite different dishes on the menu, not the usual from a fish restaurant. Would recommend a visit for dinner anytime.

We were struggling to get food in Weymouth for our coeliac daughter and Rockfish were fully booked so didn’t have any tables when we told them the problem we were having getting her lunch they performed magic and got us a table, the staff were so friendly, so knowledgeable about coeliac, it was a fantastic experience and the food was great too! First time here and didn’t disappoint. Staff all super friendly and efficient. Great offering of fish dishes. We opted for the market fish. Well cooked and tasty. I actually enjoyed the scallops too! You need to be savvy when ordering the sides but I don’t blame the place for trying to upsell…it’s tough times running a restaurant. All in all, we had a great evening, atmosphere is spot on, seafront location fabulous and we enjoyed both courses. We will revisit.

We had a fantastic time in this dog friendly restaurant. Food and service were excellent! Plenty of choice on the menu, we loved the curry sauce and mushy peas!

We visited to grab a quick meal before seeing a show. We wished we had had time to stay for a full meal because we were served a first class main course. The staff were friendly and efficient, explaining exactly which fish they had available that day, what it tasted like and how it would be cooked. My wife chose Megrim and I had Gurnard. Both were cooked perfectly; dare I say a la Rick Stein ? Next time we are in Weymouth an evening at Rockfish is most definitely on the menu.

Delicious Mother’s Day meal! Which started with a Very friendly welcome. Once seated, we were given water & the waitress (Lottie) explained the days catch. We then had appetisers and most of had scallops to start, which were delicious. I then had Lobster as it was Mother’s Day 😃which was so tasty. Throughout the whole experience we were looked after and Lottie kept a check to see if we needed anything else! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Always delicious. we have ordered from here a few times before and it's always very tasty and on time. my only feedback is that it would be nice to purchase add-ons for the food options to make them extra special and would be nice to order the wonderful coffees for delivery.

We were looking for something a bit special which suited all of us for a family valentine’s lunch whilst holidaying in the area. We had a quick flick through Tripadvisor and spotted Rockfish which looked right up our street. We received a warm welcome, were seated at a lovely cosy table under the heater (needed as it was cold and rainy outside) and were brought menus and water for the table. Loved the impressive array of fresh fish and tasty sides, as well as a lovely children’s menu. We went for the Hake from the menu, the fresh lobster special, two children’s chicken and chips and sides of bottomless chips (they really are bottomless!), curry sauce and an epic anchovy mayo (you have to try it!). The service was fantastic, the decor classy and nautical and you must visit the toilets for a continuation of the lovely decor and a funny take on the shipping forecast. Thoroughly pleased with our choice and will be back!

Popped in for an 'emergency brunch' - our first time here. We ordered the Caffeine Breakfast, a Cheese Toastie, coffee, and a smoothie - shared between two adults and our 7yr old. The food was good quality, the portions just right (not too much, not too little), and the service was great - friendly and accommodating. We would highly recommend, and look forward to visiting again soon.

I really enjoyed the food at Rockfish (prawn cocktail followed by gurnard, both very good) but the stand-out from the evening was how friendly the staff were. They were all smiles all evening, and very attentive. The restaurant itself has a good feeling about it, a happy buzz, so my book and I had a lovely evening. Thank you.

I first came across the Rockfish brand in 2021, when myself and a group of friends visited Brixham for New Year, I remember I was blown away by the location on the harbour and the freshness of the fish being landed from sea to shore. I was working away in Weymouth early last year and after a couple of subordinary evening meals I decided I needed a lift, that lift came in the way of the Rockfish. I spent all of a minute scrolling through Tripadvisor, before the Rockfish restaurant caught my eye, I immediately recognised the unmistakable blue and white branding and I was immediately filled with elation and exhilaration. Throughout 2023 I visited the Rockfish Weymouth four times, the first time I visited was April, I dined on my own that evening as it was a last minute find. I didn’t feel alone, the atmosphere of good spirited fellow diners combined with friendly, attentive and polite staff made me feel very at ease as I settled down to peruse the menu. The one thing that really shouts ‘fresh’ are the options that you are presented with when the server circles (in the shape of a fish) the fresh fish of the day on the placemats that sit in front of you on the table. The staff at the Rockfish are notably passionate and knowledgeable about the menu and service that they offer. My following visits have all been with colleagues from work, who I have invited to dine with me whilst working away with business, some of which have advised me that they are not seafood connoisseurs and the thought of going to such an establishment was met with apprehension. Rest assured however, if you, like many, enjoy traditional fish and chips, you’re in safe hands, as the Large line caught Icelandic Haddock does not disappoint, accompanied by bottomless chips and curried mushy peas you are in very safe hands. Im pleased to say I’m a little more adventurous and always make my selection from the special of the day menu. I’m never disappointed with my choice and always leave feeling very satisfied. The drink of choice for me is always the Rockfishes own Seacider, it offers a full-bodied, medium dry taste, it's the perfect way to end the day, or start the night. The Rockfish offers value, location and best of all fresh produce. It’s an absolute must visit if in Weymouth. I’m already conveniently planning my next business trip to Weymouth.

Fantastic lunch here today. Food was high quality and well cooked. Portion sizes perfect. We were served by Emilia who we found to be extremely knowledgeable about the food and very friendly. Will definitely return to Rockfish and recommend to friends.

Good coffee, shame about the service. Visited a few times previously, but unfortunately todays experience fell very short in terms of communication/service. Despite several empty tables inside and completely empty seating outside, told too busy to take bookings and turned away. Only to walk past less than 20 minutes later to find the unreserved outside seating full and being served. Hopefully service will improve again outside of winter season, in the meantime plenty of great options further along towards the clock tower

Went for bottomless brunch: 2 hours of bottomless prosecco plus food for £30 per person, or add bottomless draught beer and classic house cocktails for an extra £10 per person. Food was nice but strangely you could not actually order from the brunch menu..at a brunch?? Service was strange, seemed like a lot of new or inexperienced staff, but the Manager was friendly and helpful. There was a good atmosphere and we were even offered a free bottle of Prosecco to celebrate our recent engagement! Would go back, but I think the bottomless offer needs some refining, ie what food is included, prices for people just having beer etc.

Popped in for a quick coffee... It was not very busy, sent drinks back twice as drinks were cold. It appears the staff don't communicate. Maybe due to visiting in winter, looking at other reviews this place is generally good... But unfortunately today was not so good!

Rockfish Weymouth is our number 1 place to eat. The ray wing, mussel, prawns, sticky toffee pudding and tarte tatin were all FABULOUS. As always. We love it here. It’s both low key/homely with incredible food! Order the curry sauce. Special thanks go to Luke our waiter this time who was brilliant. Including when our little one was upset by hiccups!!

Visited with my wife on a late summer break a couple of months ago and had to revie. Food fantastic, a great spot in town and we had a very enjoyable experience. Our waiter was extremely friendly, unfortunately I can not remember his name. But a very pleasant young man. Will definitely return if and when we are back in the area!

Food was great but delivered not complete. I didn't get a salad to my pigs under blankets special and Merry Berry smoothie.

Excellent set meal and friendly professional staff. Recommended without reservation! They are dog friendly too.
