Called in to sample the Cullen Skink after seeing it featured on a YouTube video (Steve Marsh). I have to say we were not disappointed, it was delicious! The cafe was busy, but we were fortunate to be seated without a wait. Booking is recommended at busy times. The whole menu looked fabulous, I could have spent a week or more having lunch in there each day. Sadly, it was just a flying visit. We will certainly visit again when we are in the area.

Rockpool in Cullen is consistently good. We have visited here pretty much since it’s opening and have enjoyed every single meal we’ve eaten here. It does get busy so booking is advised - and for those people who walk in hoping to get a table even when they see empty ones please understand that means that there are people due to arrive there. We always book ahead for lunch because we want to be assured of a table and we have never been disappointed with the quality of food. Tacos are amazing as is the Cullen Skink, fish and chips and the burgers. Servers are always polite & friendly despite being very busy.

I'd disagree with the recent reviews - we found the staff responsive to phone calls to place booking, and as a small place there is naturally a lag as some tables are cleared before the next booking comes in so not unusual to see less than 100% occupancy during such times). I also heard the staff politely turning down walk in customers without any hint of being dismissive or rude. And why was it overrun...because the food is truly wonderful and is rightly renowned for the trademark Cullen Skink... but there is more beyond - I'd recommend their Croque Monsieur too. But if you are thinking of going I'd urge you to book ahead!

My family and I were on holiday in Cullen recently and wished to try the famous Cullen Skink. When we asked for a table the waitress said there was only a 2 seater table available however the cafe was half empty so I don’t understand why we couldn’t have used a table until their reservations we coming in. As we were all starving one of us took the only table and the rest of us ordered take away. Whilst we waited for the take away the staff kept making faces at each other as if we were in the way as they moved around the cafe. We then waited nearly 25 minutes for Cullen Skink which we could see only needed taken out of a pot with a ladle. Our family member who ate at the table was finished and left whilst we were still waiting. At no point did the staff talk to us or apologise for the wait. We then had to say if it wasn’t ready within a few more mins we had to leave as were travelling else where. They finally brought out the food, didn’t apologise and hardly spoke to us. I found the attitude of the staff very rude and shocking as everywhere else in Cullen we had been the locals were super friendly and seemed happy to welcome us. It seemed they only cared about the people eating in. Disappointed is an under statement.

Stopped here for breakfast yesterday and glad I came early as it was very busy. I recommend you Reserve a table I was lucky to get a seat. Probably one of if not the best breakfast I've had in this area although there was no beans or mushrooms with the breakfast. Good facilities toilets, WiFi, parking and access etc. Ideally located in the center of the village. Staff were amazing, very attentive and the lady who served me never seemed to stop serving from the second I came in the door. I had a full Scottish breakfast with a pot of tea a glass of iron brew and a fruit scone. £19 in total perhaps a little on the high end but very enjoyable. It's also worth mentioning that if you arrive at around 15:30 the kitchen is closed and you will no longer be able to get anything from the kitchen

Busy little cafe offering excellent food. We went twice while holiday. The first time was so my youngest could try Cullen Skink in Cullen. The soup did not disappoint being lovely and creamy with nice chunks of fish and slightly smokey flavour; the brown bread it came with was lovely too. The Rockpool burger was great as was the pulled pork bipimap. One of our number went for the salmon and creme cheese sandwich which was well-filled and delicious. I really recommend you order a side of fries as they are as near to perfect as you can get. Service was cheery and friendly even though the staff were obviously very busy. We'll definitely be back.

Firstly, this “cafe” is in Cullen, not Buckie. It’s a wee restaurant but very popular in the summer months. Essential to book. Countless potential patrons were turned away. Next available table was at 1430h. We arrived 10 minutes early but were politely asked to leave. Worked out wonderfully. Was able to buy the birthday girl “Sheldon the Shrimp” from the shop opposite. But our table was available at the appointed time of 1230h! Up some steps but this location offers a bit more privacy and you can observe the goings-on. Table 7 drew my attention. Coffee-like marks in various places on the surface; these would have offended Hercule Poirot, the famous Belgian sleuth. Were they permanent? “Mais non!” I removed a “soupçon” so staff need to exert more ‘elbow grease’ to realise a pristine pine surface again. But wonderful food, save for the birthday girl who chose Cullen Skink and a tuna sandwich. Nothing wrong with it, but too much of the same taste, she said, about the soup and too much carbohydrate in the sandwich - not enough protein. I agree about the sandwich but I advised her to take the fish’n’chps. She should listen to Granda. My Thai prawn salad was heavenly; the peanuts delivered separately. Forgetfulness or terrified of an allergic response? And Mum had the fish’n’chips, Deliciously crispy batter! Daughter looking on enviously! Prints for sale around the eatery. Gents toilet has a low ceiling so very tall males beware; I still ascribe to the science of human biology. And scrumptious cakes available too. Excellent dining experience for Mum and Granda. Daughter managed triple Biscoff ice cream at Portsoy later!

Unfortunately they sold out the last portion of Cullen Skink which I wished to taste and took away( that’s okay if they would not have any left , but the girl said she must ask around who’s sitting in, if they order first, they can’t give me the last portions… fair enough if you don’t have any. But telling me you still have then you need to check with the customers in place, that’s everything but fair play… so as an experienced servant and kitchen person, I would strongly recommend in future if you want customer to return and support your local shop, try to be more professional and sensible when serving food, otherwise reviews like mine will arise and spread through this platform…

Big breakfast 2 x eggs, 2 x tattie scones, 1 x sausage, 1 x lorne sausage, mushrooms, fried tomato, beans and toast. They are very popular with many tables already reserved at 10am when they opened. In the past, I have recommended Rockpool as the best cafe in the region for interesting and creative vegetarian and vegan food. What a disappointment I had yesterday when I went in with my husband, intending to get something nice to take away for a walk along the coast. The only vegan option was a soup (not exactly handy for taking for a walk), and one vegetarian option in addition, which was a cheese and pickle sandwich (boring, and I could make that in 30 seconds myself). We left without ordering anything, and hugely disappointed. We always used to get lunch here when visiting for walks but won't bother anymore - you can take the "vegan and vegetarian friendly" off of your description.

Fish was a good size and cooked well. Chips tasty too. Don't really see the point of serving it on paper as we got a pot of mushy peas which I wanted to eat off the plate and not paper. Food was great when we eventually got a table. To be fair, it was really busy when we arrived, and it took time to clear and set the tables. Food was great and the big baps are great, I probably didn't need to order a full cooked. I would eat here again 👍

I am a local so I have eaten in this cafe before.I will however not be returning! Whilst the food is always satisfactory you first have to run the gauntlet of rude, stroppy and miserable staff. My friend and I are over sixty both retired professionals not that it matters but we are not used to being barked at and very embarrassed.I don’t think I will be visiting again, time for a boycott. They need to remember that if they have no customers they have no business.

We ordered rockpool burger, bbq chicken burger a generous slice of chocolate brownie with a tea and a flat white for a takeaway. Great called for money and totally delicious. Just a 15 minute wait for a freshly cooked lunch. The burgers were melt in the mouth and the brownie was rich and gooey. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. I will definitely visit again.

Very busy cafe, book ahead if possible. Friendly and engaging waiting staff. Great menu catering for all tastes including vegan/vegetarian. We both enjoyed sandwiches, bread so soft, fresh and flavoursome & imaginative fillings. I enjoyed a slice of vegan blueberry and lemon loaf which was outstanding. A must do if visiting Cullen.

They have a really great menu, everything sounds appealing! There is a big selection of cakes to pick from for pudding. Best to book in advance as it can get busy. I really enjoyed my meal and would highly recommend as a nice place for...

Looked like a cosy place and the food looked nice, unfortunately we came just a bit too late for them to still be serving hot food which is what we wanted. So we didn't actually eat here but I'd love to go back again because it looked really good and it was a cosy place with very friendly staff and in a little village in such a gorgeous location by the sea.

Booked on-line with an added note that we wanted the Festive Menu. They called to explain that the Festive Menu had finished at the end of December but that the Chef had said that we could have everything except substituting chicken for the turkey. Fine by us. The dining room was a little bit on the cold side. We didn't say anything ... typical British .... so that was down to us. Both the food and service were excellent and the cost very reasonable. Well be back.

Great location, attentive staff and the food is good if a little limited and pricey. However if you are just looking for a coffee and a cake stop, then this has it all :-) ps, the local Cullen Skink is to die for 👍

I bought lunch here today and really wish I hadn’t bothered, the soup was supposed to be cream of mushroom but was anything but creamy. It was this with really large pieces of mushroom which were difficult to eat with a spoon. The cheese scone was a strange colour and had a really weird taste. It used to be a great place to eat but was sold recently and is to be avoided. I will not return!

Went last night and ordered large haddock supper single scampi two chips cheese curry sauce. Also a pickled onion. Waiting in queue the portions of food looked great getting boxed up for customers. Number 26 was called and we happily headed off to enjoy. Disaster! One not very large Haddock Supper! NO Scampi...another small single fish? NO pickled onion but a gherkin! Where did you guys get it wrong? Did you not understand Scottish? Or is it just another case of ripping off the tourist?
