Rose and Crown in Hackney

Stayed over at the guest room really clean and nice room. Breakfast was also good. Staff are very friendly will definitely come back.

This is a very typical pub in the heart of Stock Newington. Food was fine but oddly they don’t serve any hot drinks! So, don’t bother asking for a trendy coffee, hot chocolate or tea.. But if you’re looking for a decent food at a fair price, then look no further.. it’s also dog friendly - Also, a welcoming and friendly team to help you feel at home..

Love the roast here ☺️ Tried the pork shoulder roast, a little bit on a dry side for the meat, but the Yorkshire was perfect. The mulled wine was a little too spicy for my taste. Service was immaculate!

We stayed here for 2 nights, it was my first time taking my 5 week old baby away from home so I was a bit stressed. The staff were exceptionally accommodating, especially Kate, she couldn’t have done more for us. She is a credit to the company. If we were ever visiting that side of London in the future, the Rose and Crown would be my first choice. Thanks team.

Went on a Sunday, the roasts were delicious! No wonder it's popular here. They were so friendly and did a great job despite the fact the place was packed

Really lovely pub. Have had a few birthdays there and staff have always been very friendly & accommodating. Food is tasty & reasonably priced. Quiz is good! Lovely atmosphere in general ☺️

We booked several rooms for my daughter’s wedding week and couldn’t have been happier. Kate and the staff were fantastic and the rooms are beautifully appointed. The bar staff were helpful and friendly, making us feel like family. I can’t recommend the Rose and Crown highly enough!

We held a small event at the Rose and Crown for our family and friends and it was fantastic. We were especially impressed with both the food and the service we received from all the staff working on the day. A special thanks to both Ian and Max for being so so helpful with all the organisation.

Parents had a wonderful stay at the Rose & Crown. Beautiful newly renovated rooms with plenty of space right above the pub. Great when you come back after a day full of London sightseeing and can just relax and unwind over a pint before going to bed. Really feels like a second home thanks to lovely Kate and her team. Location is fantastic too with several buses going straight into town - or just spend your day exploring N16 and stay in the park or hang out in Church Street or walk up to the water reservoirs. We'll definitely come back!

Lovely barman called Max. He was very lovely indeed.

People serving are really nice and the beer choice is good and varied but the variability in the food quality lets it down. Whitebait was too big - not portion but the individual fish size so it absorbed too much oil and was unpleasant to eat, chargrilled chicken with sauce was also surprisingly very oily, all the chips were overcooked. Burgers and steaks were appreciated by my boys - but they would say that wouldn't they? I'll come back to see if I just visited on an off day. 🤞

Excellent food excellent service

It truly was the highlight of our adventure to London. We chose not to stay in the popular tourist areas. We were welcomed warmly by all of the staff who treated us like family. We arrived way early and since our rooms were ready they let us check in. Rooms are so comfortable and even fresh flowers on the table. Breakfast is served daily with a beautiful presentation. Note only to guests at the Inn. Kate is an excellent manager with a superb staff. Do not hesitate to book here. We enjoyed staying at this charming Inn with so much history and personality. The town is so easily walkable with many pubs and bakeries. Commuting by train or bus was very convenient. We will fondly recall our time here. Thank you.

Great spot and a lovely pub. If you're lucky enough to get a seat outside, it's some of the finest people watching real estate around. Inside is lovely too. A proper old pub with some good grub. If the thought of a cosy pub in winter gives you a stiffy, you'll like this one

One of the best roasts in London

We were supposed to come to London on New Year's Eve, but when our train was cancelled, the staff arranged for new dates. We had a pleasant stay. Very welcoming staff, a very nice room and a good breakfast. The location is very well served. We were delighted with our stay and will definitely be back.

I've been coming here since landlord Martin Harley was a young barman, and the floor wasn't covered in fake flagstones. The place keeps it's 1920's charm, but is being ruined by the reservation system. Let's keep it as a pub and not turn it into a restaurant. I don't like being turfed of a table in favour of diners. Note - I'd like to say you have a great barman in Dan - polite, engaging and actually tells you how much the round is rather than just chucking the card reader at you. He's doing all the work while the other two newer (never seen them before) young men are too busy talking to each other - no manners and borderline rude. An extra star for Dan!

Great visit to this lovely pub. Nice spacious old school pub with a good Friday night hum of conversation. Food was good and service was excellent and attentive.

Really easy to book a space for a group of mummies and prams. The staff were very accommodating and the food is delicious!

The service at the the bar was so slow on Friday evening we left to go to The Lion. They seemed a bit understaffed but those who were working were so sluggish it just seemed like we weren't going to get served. Prime time in a prime location - bring your A game eh.

We arrived on Friday afternoon to this grand old pub with an open fire warming the bar. Max welcomed us warmly and showed us to a very pleasant room. Warm and spotlessly clean. This accommodation did not disappoint. We enjoyed a drink in the bar buzzing with the excitement of Friday evening. Home made yoghurt and sourdough toast won me over amongst the delicious breakfast choices. Thankyou to Kate and her kind and helpful team . We will return.

Really lovely, cosy pub/restaurant, very friendly staff. The Sunday roasts were very good but we were all a bit bemused by the fact that they were swimming in gravy. Would’ve preferred to have separate small jugs? Apart from that, really good. Oh, slightly surprising that no hot drinks were available - apart from mulled wine 🙂

Went with a group and had Sunday roasts. The friendly staff were rushed & it felt like they were a bit understaffed. Wine was good, beers good. Food plates too meagre though: eg I counted 3 medium slices of beef, 3 small roast potatoes, 3 quarter carrot chunks, 4 small brussels sprouts and a tiny, tiny pile of red cabbage (1 dessert spoon?). Yorkie smallish but ok. Mostly well cooked, beef fairly tender, but carrots a bit hard. No stuffing or other veg. Plate was nowhere near full, portion overall felt small and mean. At £14 to £16 this was definitely overpriced, nothing special, and felt quite stingy. We left hungry, and feeling a little disappointed.

Been to this pub three times for food. Good lunch menu and tasty meals. Went for Sunday roast last week. I had the pork and got a good serving and better yet a large tasty piece of crackling. The trouble & strife had the nut roast which was tasty but needed extra gravy as it was a bit hard. neither of us like the cabbage but there must be people out there who do! I would return for the roast. The a-la-carte menu looked good too and there was a pleasant feel to the pub. 4 stars

This used to be a great pub, always fairly foody but the staff were relaxed and sensible and were happy to let us stop for drinks pre-swimming at the leisure centre. Sadly this atmosphere is no more. We visited recently after a few months away for a quick drink and found a number of empty tables all marked reserved with no indication of when they were reserved for. We perched at one to finish our drinks but were swiftly informed by the extremely officious manager that it was their policy not to allow drinkers to sit down and that it was more of a restaurant now anyway. When we mentioned that staff used to take a more sensible approach and that we were happy to move if anyone came for the table he suggested that it was too much effort for staff to clean a table ready for diners afterwards and they were making lots of money with this approach so it was all fine. We were allowed to finish our drinks but very much as an exception and left wishing we hadn’t bothered stopping by, despite previously having seen it as a regular weekend destination. I totally appreciate that pubs have to make money and food is where the money is but there are plenty of pubs in Stoke Newisngton and elsewhere who manage to balance both perfectly well without being unwelcoming and lacking in common sense so I suggest trying one of the other excellent establishments in the area.

The chaps working at the bar were very content to call last orders and take around £100 of our money this evening, followed by rudely kicking us out just over 10 minutes later, knowing full well that we had bought five or 10 pints between the lot of us. This kind of unprofessionalism it’s just one of the reasons that I would never recommend this pub to anyone. Avoid!

This lovely local is a favourite of a broad constituency, and Sunday lunch is always packed out. But they do meals all the week round and they recently changed their menu. Here is a cod concoction which both looked and tasted wonderful. It’s not super cheap but the quality is excellent.

Cosy pub with great beers, hearty food, a warm welcome and real log fires. Traditional decor without any frills. Popular with locals and off the tourist trail. What’s not to like?

Upon my recent visit to the rose and crown, I was delighted that they had many drinks. Also, I liked it when rosie kissed me, but... no tongues :-/

A typical pub menu in a nice setting. The Steak & Ale pie was good. Desert was probably not homemade but ok. Decent prices. Busy with regulars on quizz night.

Went here with my family for sunday lunch. Needed to book the table as this place is very popular and gets busy so hard to get somewhere to sit. We had nice seating so we could all fit around as there were seven of us. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Loads of staff working so was easy to get served at the bar and got our drinks quick. Food came quick and was lovely, we all had the roast dinners some had chicken, beef and pork, meat was cooked well, loads of veg and potatoes were amazing. Deserts were great too loved these. Would go back again.

Cosy, and trendy at the same time. The menu is delicious and quite varied. I got Falafel burger with chips and it was worth the 9 pounds! Food was served really quickly. Service sometimes lacking, I didn't feel like we were there at a particularly busy time, but the barpeople didn't always seem to notice customers.

We've been here a few times for Sunday Roast. Good selection of beers, lagers and ales alike. Interesting seating choices. The pub also have rooms, which are all different and really nice.

Reasonable food in a nice pub venue. Not ever so exciting but okay. Service was good. It gets very busy later in the lunch period so if you want a comfortable lunch then go earlier. Portion size not huge so at least you wont feel...

Great roast in a pub with atmosphere, a good comfortable, local with nice wines and good beers, very easy place to be in ! always enjoy time here.

Called in here for a business lunch. Nice old-fashioned pub, eclectic mix of patrons, roaring fire and excellent food. Good selection of real ales. Also reasonably priced, which was a nice surprise (I'm a stranger to London and was expecting everything to cost a fortune).

Didn't stop as already booked into another hotel for the night but viewed the rooms and they were fabulous. Rooms and bar are dog friendly and staff were really friendly and helpful. Arrived about half nine and they served food til 10 but no problems...

the pub serve a great roast lunch on Sunday. the stuff are very friendly and welcome , the food is very tasty and kids and pets friendly . highly recommend

This place, located in Stoke Newington, just a block from our flat, provided very good food and drink on the two occasions we visited. Sunday , especially is an excellent time to visit for the traditnal London roast dinners. Yummy!
