Rose & Crown in Merton

Beautiful place, excellent breakfast!!

I recently visited the Rose & Crown and was warmly greeted by the pub dog, Freddy, which added a charming touch to the cosy atmosphere. I've added it to my barguide.london site too!

Early ebony weekday trip in January so want expecting much atmosphere, and didn't get it. Wasn't disappointed though. Guessing pricess are relevant to the village

I love the Rose & Crown as I grew up very close to it, so it holds a special place in my heart. The beers are always great, they have limited their selection a little, which is a shame, but they still have plenty of offerings that you can sink into. One of my favs in the Youngs Special. I do like the Youngs Bitter if I’m wanting something with a little less of a punch. We decided to go here as they had the January special menu on, and this would save us money. The food however wasn’t particularly good, we had a good night despite this, but it was a little disappointing. It wasn’t that busy, which is why I guess they were running the menu, but then it’s Jan and everything is a little quieter. The staff were really nice and allowed us to stay till the very last minute. I would recommend going as good I’ve had in the past has been much better so I think this was probably just an off night. I didn’t like the Gnocchi though 😬 but the scotch egg was bloody good. I’ve given it a 4 star for food but this is based on past experiences, I would have given it a 3 star this time.

We had a very good Christmas Day lunch at the Rose and Crown for Christmas 2023 with 5 adults and two children so for this Christmas we booked to go back again and the manageress Nicky managed to get the whole family of 8 adults 3 children plus a baby fitted into 2 adjacent tables for 6 which worked very well, We were very pleased with the event once again perhaps surprisingly the price was pretty well the same as the previous year (£105 per head for adults and half price for the children) with a slightly more elaborate menu of 6 courses. This year there were the 3 main courses of starters, main and dessert plus an amuse bouche to begin, a sorbet after the starter and then cheese after the dessert. This worked well and the food was excellent: well cooked and presented, with generous portions and a good range of 5 choices for each of the 3 main courses plus a few optional extras. Service was good throughout and the staff welcoming and pleasant despite the inevitable pressure of such a busy day. We all enjoyed it very much and no doubt will plan to return next year

This pub is an all time classic.

The cosiest pub in Wimbledon village. The interior is spacious with plenty of space to enjoy a nice drink. They are two fireplaces which make the pub feel like a home. The staff is lovely and always accomodating. The food is also delicious, special mention to the Sunday roast which is very tasty.

Lovely pub, nice table. Slow but friendly service. Beef roast was a huge disappointment. Meat very overcooked. Shame tbh.

The Rose and Crown is an institution for myself and two close friends, so we try and meet there every Christmas, having grown up in the area. It never fails to please - the atmosphere was welcoming and the restaurant area was comfortable and not noisy, so we could enjoy conversation. The food is always reliable Youngs Fare and very tasty. The Winter Warmer was delicious. The restaurant staff were very attentive, friendly and efficient. Thank you for a super early Christmas meal.

This has been the 3rd time that I have s tee dyed at the Rose and Crown in Wimbledon and I have always been impressed at the dedication and friendliness of all of the staff. Nicky and Jess are warm and professional and can’t do enough to make you feel at home. A very pleasant stay which is why I have returned 3 times. Freddie the dog is a bonus to that homely feeling

Good food but v expensive and service charge too high. Place was empty I think 3 lunch bookings only.

A lovely pub with cosy atmosphere. The food was good, although the crumble was lacking in crumble and the pork roast was very fatty. Sadly the service was pretty slow (as was the food), and we had to call the staff over a few times. We still had a lovely time, but the prices probably need a slightly better product and service.

This is a lovely pub, restaurant and hotel serving food in the heart of Wimbledon. I went there for breakfast. Dogs allowed inside, they even put a treat table for them. The breakfast was fresh, coffees are delicious and good. I ordered croissant Crouque Madame and swapped the bacon with mushrooms ( recommended by their chef) and it was amazingly buttery, cheesy and delicious. It serves with one egg only in the form of fried but I ordered extra egg too, and let me give you a secret. Poached egg is a win-win combination. My friend ordered the eggs florentine, asked the sauce on the side. It was delicious too. There is a breakfast bar there to enjoy cakes, pastries, fresh fruits and juices. Staffs are nice and friendly, very patient and helpful.

Wonderful food, very reasonably priced. Fab atmosphere on a Friday night too. Special shout out to Justyna, who was incredibly attentive and approachable throughout our meal! Our birthday girl even received a pudding and a candle with a round of happy birthday. Delighted customers all round!

Eat there regularly, punch well above their weight. Varied menu good specials . Staffed by happy people, Gemma gives such a friendly welcome and great service dining there is a real pleasure. I would be remiss not to mention Sam who also always makes us so comfortable and is always ready to help.

We had an amazing Sunday lunch at the R&C in Wimbledon. My husband, 8 year old daughter and our friends enjoyed a perfect roast. A personal touch was extra gravy kindly offered and poured by the attentive yet relaxed and friendly staff member. I was also very grateful for the chef accommodating some specific dietary requirements in a helpful and supportive manner. Thanks for a warm welcome and a cosy atmosphere.

Love this pub and come for a drink regularly. Unfortunately this evening we received what can only be described as appalling service. The staff are usually a pleasure however on the occasion it was uncomfortable and left us disappointed.

Oh dear, the place was mobbed. Staff were undertrained and overwhelmed. We had to wait 1 and a half hours for a roast dinner. The food was ok but roast potatoes undercooked. Were ignored by the staff by the end of the meal. I think they had given up. The table collapsed on my grandson but the waiter just looked embarrassed. I really wanted to like it but it was lacking in so many ways. Sorry…

Lovely place, amazing fish and chips, staff are unbelievably friendly and accommodating. Really enjoyed our lunch. Dog friendly and have water bowls and dog treats. Would definitely go back if in the area.

Booked a table approx 3 weeks ago. When we arrived yesterday were told there was a one & half hour wait for food as only operating as 1/2 a kitchen. I totally get this an unforeseen situation however walk in’s were still allowed rather than just allowing the guests who had booked in advance. Very poor customer service

Why did we not visit before tonight and I don’t know? A lovely warm friendly atmosphere. Food was really quite lovely too. Rosie was a lovely host at our table too. Would highly recommend to friends and we will definitely be back.

What a little gem, nestled in the middle of Wimbledon village, surrounded by shops and even a farmers market on a Sunday morning. Nice size rooms and very comfy. Our Sunday roast was by far the best we’ve had in a long time. The roast pork and the service was on point. Thank you

Super Service the meal was as described can fast and was hot couldn't ask for more other than the atmosphere for a Saturday night was a bit flat perhaps everyone is saving up for Christmas

Some of the food was good, but the haddock was a bit over done. Service was poor, and we had to wait for over an hour for our food.

Overcooked batter was brown and crunchy (not crisp) in places. Looks like this might have been a left over reheated. Curry sauce was nice. I have had much nicer fish and chips here previously. Very poor phone reception, they offer their unsecured WiFi network if you sign up..

My birthday lunch yesterday was attended by 28 guests in the informal snug area by the fireplace. We had a wonderful time, with great food (fish-and- chip kebabs, burgers, blinis, minipizzas and much more), all served by attentive staff. I have always considered R&C to be an outstanding pub and this was reinforced by our event. The atmosphere was convivial, aided by the wonderful decor (real stone flag floors!). I have received many appreciative comments from my guests, and I am happy to endorse these.

We stayed here for two nights and had a wonderful time. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms were very comfortable and well stocked with high quality items. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful. With the added bonus of parking, we highly recommend this place. Thank you.

I recently stayed at the rose and crown with my wife. All of the staff were extremely friendly and professional and could not do enough for you. The food was delicious and very tasty. The hygiene was exceptional. We loved the rain fall shower it was amazing and the rooms that we stayed in were lovely and comfortable. The only downfall was the Internet it was problematic. We would definitely stay at the rose and crown again.

We were very disappointed with lunch here on our visit to Wimbledon. Service was very poor and slow. And to cap it all, they got our order wrong. To compensate, the management did take the wrong meals off the bill. But still very disappointing 😞 Thank you for your speedy reply. We visited The Rose and Crown on many occasions and have always been very happy with the service and the food there and will be happy to visit you again.

the rose and crown always runs great events just like today at the pub olympics which was great fun and jess was very accommodating and made it a great evening

This was my first time at The Rose & Crown, we had planned lunch for my mums birthday. From the get go the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us, getting us a table outside, and acknowledged it was a family celebration and were very sweet towards my toddler. We were seen swiftly and checked up on often, always with a smile. The food was fantastic, and we didn't have to wait long for it either. The pub is lovely and the atmosphere in the garden was great, busy but not heaving, and the Olympics was on the big screen which was great in the background. Lots of cute dogs around too! I would whole heatedly recommend this pub and will be back very soon.

sorry but rubbish and rude bar manager who made up own rules on a 17 year old drinking lemonade.

Good food, terrible service. Get a grip. The drinks order was wrong, we waited an hour for food and were told the delay was due to a large party who had pre-booked their order. Not a thing. Also, we had reserved a table but it was clear that the staff couldn’t find the reservation.

Great pub with ability to watch Wimbledon outdoors

A bit of a contradiction here, however let me explain. The pub is very nice and the staff helpful....however, we went to see England vs Slovakia. The management/staff had no consideration whatsoever for safety or experience of being at the pub. It was impossible to get drinks, moving around was like being at a festival over-crowded and praying you won't need a wee. I doubt safety regarding number of people was respected at all. Clearly management is more concerned about making as much money as possible in a short time over safety of the pub goers. Complete shamble of management.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Celebrated my sons 17th birthday. The roasts were sublime! Service was spot on thanks to Jess and the team. Beautifully furnished dining room made it very cozy. Fantastic lunch and will definitely be going back soon.

Absolutely delicious food and fabulously attentive and friendly staff! Fish pie, roast chicken, chocolate fondant and rhubarb Bakewell tart were particularly good! As was the selection of wines!

Lovely pub in Wimbledon village. Lovely and cosy inside, has a good size restaurant at the rear. Has a wonderful garden that is very comfortable with soft furnishings all around. Nicely kept. Staff lovely polite and friendly. Great place to end a nice walk across the common.

We had booked a table for a Sunday roast. On arrival, we were directed to a table in a dark corner of the bar area with no reservation sign as if they had just found a spare table to seat us, away from the restaurant. It took over an hour for the food to arrive and the ‘21 day matured beef’ was flavourless as were the vegetables. We had to ask for more gravy which again was bland and watery. Staff were walking past us when trying to ask where the accessible toilet was. Overall, disappointing considering the good reviews we had read.

Great old english pub. Food looked good . Great homely vibe in the bar area. Good looking beer garden out the back. Fast service at the bar.

Met a friend for late midweek drinks. Two malbecs, one L one M. Asked the barmaid if she could pour directly into the glasses as I always find the metal measures taint the wine. She couldn't as the wine glasses didn't have measures, so I said whatever ok. But then she took two additional glasses, poured m/l measures of water into them, and then used them as a guide on how to pour out the wine Perhaps I'm weird but i that was so incredibly thoughtful, rare to see that kind of initiative, even if minor. It's also just a pleasant place to meet a friend. Two thumbs up.

What truly makes any place are the people who work there and we have been coming back because the team is wonderful…helpful, friendly making us feel special! With special gratitude to Ms. Justyna for taking care of us!

Service was slow (and we were right next to the kitchen), roast was pants (maybe because we were booked for 1445) but yeah. Cauliflower and cheese was water. Gravy was water. Chicken (which is hardest thing to mess up), was. Dry as a bone. It's a nice place with decent drink selection, but am pretty put off eating here.

Justina was our server and she was a delight. Was so polite and personal. Would recommend

Went for drinks with friends, very friendly pub

The 🌹& 👑 is one of my favourites in Wimbledon Village. I enjoy the easy homely feel. It’s not selectable but the fish and chips are really good too.

Celebrated my birthday here, the area they set out for a larger group was perfect but after a few cancellations we didn’t need as much space. Jake H, who hosted us, was awesome in helping us rearranging the tables and made our overall experience lovely!

Always a good lunch at the Rose&Crown. Ox Cheek pie was delicious and the beer excellent.

Great Pub and really nice food .Staff very attentive and we had a nice evening . Only Down side was the bath rooms paper towel all over the floor . Obviously some customers not very respectful of the toilets and the manager should be checking the condition of these.
