Rupali Indian restaurant in Coventry

Food was excellent. The only reason I havnt gave it 5 stars is because I felt rushed to order. We wasn't left alone to sit and chat over a drink before ordering. Infact whilst we were actually eating our poppadom starter they come asking if we are ready to order! But reguarding the food I cant fault it one bit. I had chicken jalfrazie mushroom rice and keema naan. Best naan ive ever had.

If I was able to give 0 stars then I would. Honestly was the worst experience I have ever had. The food was terrible. Everything was sweet and not catered for my family. I understand that it is in an area where not many indian people go but surely you would see your customers, (us being brown) and understand that they would need a little bit of spice in their food. Anyway, I ordered my starters and explained that we haven't decided on mains yet so we will order them afterwards. Any Other restaurant I have been to would have said okay no problem, just let us know when you're ready to order mains. This restaurant INSISTED that I had to order my mains with my starters. Another worker came out from no where and said that it was policy and that he would get fired if I didn't order my mains. Didn't even let me reply to the other man but instead butted in to tell me he would get fired if I didn't order my mains. Anyway I went back to my table og 11 other family members and we decided what we wanted for mains. Told the staff what we wanted and off they went to make it. I ordered a butter chicken which the staff member said would be mild and asked me if that was okay. I said yes as it was only that dish he asked about. We had our starters which were okay but portion sizes were not the best. We didn't think much of it due to it being starters. Anyway we waited for our mains to see that there was about 5 pieces of lamb or chicken in each dish that did not serve our table of 12. Considering we order the same amount of dishes, (5 dishes) in any other Indian restaurant, we now know how many we need to order to be able to fill everyone up. But no, 5 pieces of meat in a dish costing around £17 each. What a joke. Regardless we spoke to the staff and explained that surely this isn't right. Also explained that we've been to other restaurants and they give double the amount. All dishes were super bland in flavour and spice and the lack of meat in the dishes was ridiculous. We explained this to the staff in a nice way, but this guy that mentioned to me about ordering the mains or he would get fired, got onto his high horse and raised his voice and was incredibly rude. We were just explaining what we have had before and tried to give them some constructive feedback to help their business. But no. Completely took it the wrong way. Did not apologise like anyone else would, constantly interrupting and not letting my family finish what they were saying and did not even stop to take a break. He started shouting and showing us his book of booking for yesterday. I'm sorry but did I ask you about your bookings. No I didn't. Including our table, there were only 2 other tables in the whole restaurant, so your book is pointless to me as i can see with my own eyes that you're not busy or as popular as you insist hun. Anyway this same guy spoke to another member of my family when the rest if my family paid the bill and left. He said that I asked for the dishes to be mild and thats why thery were like that and lacked flavour. So they also turned it around to blame me when all they asked me about was that butter chicken dish, and even so why woumd you nit add the flavour regarless of spice level. So considering we spend £300 in this restaurant, I 1 million percent do not recommend and absolutely will NOT be going back there. So rude and rubbish food. Not to the quality it should have been considered how much we spent. So many more better places in Coventry than this place that are cheaper and you get what you paid for. NEVER AGAIN.

WILL NOT BE EATING HERE AGAIN! Not a picky person but the food was beyond bland mud would have more taste, the party of 10 of us didn't say anything to nor cause a scene but then come to realise you get 4 tiny pieces of meat in 1 dish when questions if we can get more they said its how it is ( which I know is a lie as we used to order all the time ) the manager was extremely rude and not understanding in the slightest

Most expensive curry Iv had in Coventry don’t feel that the food justifies the cost . Food was heated up by the table side which I feel is bizarre . When it just come directly from the kitchen. Even after heating at the side of the table, it was not piping hot. Was not busy in there but we had a longer than expected wait for the food . Somewhat disappointed with the overall experience.

La comida era demasiado cara para una comida por debajo de par. La comida se recalentó al lado de la mesa directamente desde la cocina. Esto es muy confuso, ya que seguramente recién salido de la cocina debería estar escribiendo incluso después de que recalentarlo todavía era tibio. El tiempo de espera era extremadamente largo teniendo en cuenta que no había nadie realmente allí. Definitivamente no es un lugar que volvería a visitar.

In my very honest review this Restaurant in terms of food is below average. I cannot call this Indian food. Onion bhaji was very blend, tasteless. All the food have same taste (just less or more hot). Couldn't taste any spices apart from chilli powder. My Polish wife cooks better Indian food then Rupali and this sums up everything. Service was very attentive,very polite. Seating pretty decent. Very little parking.

No visitamos Rupali tan a menudo, pero es local y a poca distancia. Fuimos el 26 de agosto para celebrar nuestro 29 aniversario de boda. Mi marido tenía un naga que él disfrutaba, yo soy una criatura de hábito, yo tenía arroz al ajo y un pollo korma. La corona era muy pálida y acuosa, no tenía sabor. Fue decepcionante.

We don't go to the Ripali that often, but it is our local and walking distance. We went 26/8/24 to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. The platter starter was lovely, my husband had a naga and loved it. I am a creature of habit, I had garlic rice and chicken korma. My korma was disappointing, it looked very watery, not to the usual standard and lacked taste. I didn't complain as that's the first time it has happened. The service was fab.

Pedimos una pinta y media de cerveza lager y 2 popadoms que estaba bien, pero las comidas principales eran tan sosas que no comí la mía. Mi marido comió un poco de él, pero lo encontró tan insípido que lo dejó. Después de quejarse de que nuestras comidas eran inaceptables, todavía nos cobraron 20 libras.

First visit and very disappointed tonight, extremely bland and no flavour in the food we ordered whatsoever. Told by the Manager if we want it spiced up to ask?? Just wanted flavour tbh

The Rupali was Coventry’s first upmarket Indian restaurant. Essentially catering for clients that hadn’t just had a skin full at a local boozer and requiring sustenance before staggering home. The Rupali was and still is a great place to experience really well prepared cuisine from the Indian subcontinent. Though of course there are far more quality Indian restaurants about now than there were decades ago when Rois Ali and the team opened the Rupali.

I frequently visit this restaurant as the food is very good but this evening on arrival with my 6 month old daughter and wife, I asked for a table for 2 and a pushchair, normally when we visit the restaurant this is not a problem but we were told by a member of staff very abruptly that ‘we do not allow babies on weekends’. Despite there in the restaurant was a child in a high chair and we have previously gone to this restaurant on a weekend and this has never been an issue. Staff proceeded to place us on a table at the very back of the restaurant where it was not even lit and as far away from everyone else as possible. We felt like a Burden and inconvenience to the establishment, there for we left and will not be returning.

First time visit here. Nice atmosphere - lots of space and good seating for a small or large party. The service was excellent and the food was too. Nothing revolutionary but still a great restaurant which produces consistently good food. Will be going back for sure.

My food was cold again! I phoned up made my order, I was told a time to come collect. Come on time to find I was waiting another 10 minutes.. Finally got my food, took me 60 seconds to get home to plate up and find it stone cold, again.. this issue needs sorting and will have to find another place to eat from. Very disappointing service.

A great curry every time, it is my go too place in Coventry.

It’s been a good 8 years since I last visited , inside starting to look tired , water damaged ceiling close to us , food wasn’t what I remembered, very average and a little overpriced compared to most out of the city restaurants like this .

Food and ambiance was fine until we found a hair in the Roti.:( The manager/boss's attitude behaviour really offended us when we pointed it to them Reciting his words, "Sorry that you found the hair. It's a long hair and its seems like it's from a women. We don't have any long haired person working in the kitchen". Likewise we did something to put down their fame or get any reduction in food. Mistakes can happen in a kitchen, it's always better to apologise and take precautionary measures to not to happen this rather than accusing the customer.

Restaurant is with good ambience. But ,didn't understand even after the restaurant being half empty, some of had to wait. May be for some reason. Food quality was good and taste was fine. Apart from that had a good time. Price wise it not a burden to Ur wallet.

It's a great restaurant inside. Clean, good decor. They have to do something about the letters in the name board outside that are running away, like the stars. It is that typical British Indian taste in their food that blunts the experience. Much too sweet, much too fatty and a naga dish tasting exactly like a chettinad and the peshawar naan could be mistaken for a dessert. The only thing that they got right was the popadam and it is impossible to get it wrong. Service was great. Waiters friendly. Somebody has to balance the kitchen failures and they were doing a good job. It always comes down to the question, would I go back? I have never tried peshawari naan in dessert and that gives me an idea.

Second visit and just as pleasant as the first time. Staff were friendly, food was nice and tasty. The Naan bread was lovely soft and fresh. The only thing I can fault this time is the drinks were not cold. They did have ice but this melted quickly due to the room temperature drinks. That is just me being picky. I will return again in future if over that side of town.

The pickle tray was delightful and the food was lovely. It’s a nice touch that they sizzle the food up at the table. Staff were very friendly and it has a pleasant ambience. Plenty of parking outside. I would definitely recommend the peschwari nan.

Always fresh and tasty food. Favourite curry in the area!

Their signature dish , sylyheti jalfrezi has always been brilliant. Created by Rois Ali the award winning chef and previous owner from many years ago. He passed it on to the new owners to move forward. An expensive dish compared to the average curry but totally worth it...until now!...returning after a number of months away, this was shocking, below standard. I paid £12 for this dish alone. The flavours that made this dish have gone, not even close. I did ring the restaurant to put my critique. To my surprise they used the standard 'no two chefs are the same'. I get that, but this was an award winning dish at top dollar...sorry...

Seemed expensive but food was very nice. Be careful if you have a big group as they are not keen on people splitting the bill over multiple payments.

Our local curry house for the last few years. Great food, staff are always brilliant too and reasonable prices for the quality too. Never had an issues with either dinning in or take away.

I’m absolutely disgusted in the Manager last night. I called up and asked if they had a table for 7 adults and 4 children, they went away to find out and came back to me and said yes. When we arrived, they looked at our children and suddenly said they had no room even though the place was half empty and there was already a long table set up for us. The manager said it was a ‘new’ person I spoke to and they shouldn’t of said they have room. After the very embarrassing moment we all had to walk out. We got more taxi’s to the Coundon Indian Cuisine restaurant, they managed to fit us all in. Our 4 young children were extremely well behaved. Shame on you Rupali on judging our children before we were even seated.

The management are appalling. After calling ahead to book a group of 11 adults and children (specified) we were told we could have a table. We arranged taxis and arrived on time. The manager scowled at us after looking at my children and said “we have no room” to which I replied “we have booked”. He then told us to sit and wait. He then sent another staff member to “deal with us” who claimed they had no room, then shouldn’t have told us we could attend, that the “new” member of staff had spoken to us (despite him going away to check before saying so). He told us we “could have a table at half 9 but close at 10 so there’s no point” When we arrived our table was quite clearly set for us in the middle of the restaurant. We argued our case for a little while before we asked to speak to the “manager” who was standing a couple of meters away and could quite clearly hear the commotion. The manager firstly told us to wait while he finished playing with his calculator. He then carried on with the claim that the “new” member of staff shouldn’t have given us the green light to attend and apparently they now have a new rule (so new that it wasn’t a rule 30 minutes ago when we booked) that children cannot attend the restaurant at a “certain time” (time not actually disclosed!!) We explained he should honour the booking and that we are now financially out of pocket for paying for transport to get there he backed down to say that as a “good will gesture” he would serve us. Well fat chance I would allow my children to be treated the way he treated us. They got what they wanted. By staying, we would reinforce the way he treated his staff by sending them to deal with his own prejudices in front of a restaurant full of people. I don’t need to pay for that. I am honestly appalled, I was embarrassed, so much so I cried. I vow never to eat at this “restaurant” again. If I could leave 0 stars I would.

The only place local to either eat in or have a takeaway. Always have nice food and very accommodating with my fussy eating habits…. as in no coriander!!! Great staff and great food.

Overall disappointing. The owner / guy showing us to our table was unfriendly bordering on rude. The other waiters were very nice. After being seated and ordering drinks, when ordering food they informed us we had to buy at least one main course. We had already ordered a lot in the way of sides, starters and drinks so we were not cheapskates and seemed penny pinching on their side. So ended up with too much food. The food quality itself was not bad. Not amazing but no complaints

Collected a very tasty Indian meal from here and treated ourselves to a drink whilst waiting.

The worst restaurant I visited till now The staff who attended us was very rude and his attitude is like they doing favour on us to allow dining in that restaurant And they have a rule, that only if we order main course then only we can dine in otherwise no I ordered the main course coz i was have kid with me and she was hungry Bt we just had starter and asked them to parcel the main course, coz we didn’t felt like siting and eating over there And we just had starter and drinks n left paying bill £46.20 What a waste of time and money

Such a beautiful restaurant, I wish we had one in our town. Great selection, amazing people, so attentive and forgiving of those who didn’t know what to order. Genuine people and very tasty food, very well presented. Thank you so much for a wonderful night

Briĺiant service and exdrlant food use it veru often

The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was okay to good, but I have to say they are a little bit too expensive for me to dine in the restaurant again. The reason for this is if I got the same food as a takeaway it would have saved me 25% off the bill. Dining in should not be a 25% premium especially when you will pay a premium for drinks as well. I was happy with what I had but disappointed with the cost.

I like that the interior is still 80’s Indian retro. It has character and charm. The service was great the night we visited, it was a Sunday evening so wasn’t too busy so service was not slow. The servers were polite. The food was nice but I might try something different next time as I wasn’t blown away. Prices can be expensive depending what you order. The popadoms and dips were nice! Probably the best part. Not free though as they are in some places. I would return if I’m in the area again. I wouldn’t go out of my way living on the other side of town though.

They said some weired rule of ordering main course per adult else dine-in isn't provided. My order makes the bill £21.40. Finally I take away. Staff were rude and roti was very hard. Never recommend for this restaurent. Never experience this behaviour anywhere until now.

The food here is ok. We went with a group of 11 and there were no complaints with the meal, but noone really said how nice their meal was either. Wha was really offensive though was the man who took our money! It's normal to me that people pay on card probably as couples and split the bill. He found this an annoyance and offensive that he had to take a few card payments and was muttering under his breath. When he got to me I hadn't tapped the reader properly and he actually muttered "Jesus Christ come on" at me under his breath which I found so offensive! One of the group did challenge his behaviour and from that point forward we stopped tipping (we all agreed to add £5 on top) the restaurant lost out on about £25 in tips due to his behaviour and we won't go back for average food and rude service!

Amazing service 10/10. Lovely food the best out of the Indian restaurant in Coventry. Really friendly. Atmosphere is authentic. Definitely will go back for my Indians with my family. Staff is really helpful seated perfectly. Drinks was spot on and popadams were really good with the chutneys.

Nice curry good buzz to the place

Booked online and was given a confirmed reservation, had an email back to confirm. On arrival was met with an extremely rude member of staff who said I hadn't got a reservation even though I showed him my confirmation, he argued with me in front of many people, shaking his head from side to side. Totally objectional gentleman and even though the food is lovely I will never return there .went to the Ginger Orange instead and although extremely busy gave us a table, they were welcoming and friendly and the food was wonderful

We telephoned at 5.45pm on a Saturday early evening to order a take away for 4 people to collect at 7pm. After struggling to park, my other half went to the restaurant at 7.05pm. He was told there would be a slight delay as they were just cooking off the naan breads. There were at least 8 other people waiting. I was in the car waiting for a space to become available. My other half telephoned me at 7.25 to say ‘still waiting’…..the 7pm takeaway was eventually produced at 7.30pm. When we arrived home, less than 10 minutes drive, the curries (Chicken Bhuna, chicken neeja, chicken sag walla and chicken korma) were not very good and the aforementioned freshly cooked naan breads (peshwari and garlic and coriander) were dry and tasteless. So after a half hour delay and awful food, we won’t be using this place again.

An absolutely wonderful restaurant. The service was impeccable. They were so polite and helpful and attentive without it feeling pushy. Swift service, but not too swift. And you could tell the meals had been made for us, as you could customise the ingredients. It was such nice food too, full of flavour but without being too spicy. We had a pint each, with poppadoms, and a main each, and it came to £36 so seemed reasonable pricing, if maybe slightly above average. But the food and service were absolutely worth it. I'd really recommend you give Rupali a try!

Fantastic food I ever tasted in rupali on Saturday evening .its one of my best restaurant in Coventry the food was great and fantastic.i ordered chicken jalfrezi and it so 😋. The main chef did a good job and made and fantastic dish for me . I tasted chicken jalfrezi in so many restaurant it was not good and tasty like rupali . I will l love to come again and order more delicious food.

Waited over a hour for meal. No sign so gave up. Don't bother more interested in takeaway. The Newlands is OK

I took takeaway from here for my friends to make them try indian food but it was soo sweet and tasteless , by seeing the good reviews i thought it will be good but the food was the worst. Don't take reviews seriously maybe they are fake. You can See the the food color is also too much.

Visited just once.. Had mutton biriyani.. Though the biriyani wasnt upto my expectations.. Mutton was less.... The gravy served with biriyani was awesome..

Excellent service and excellent quality

We have been going with our three children for more than ten years now. Even though we have moved away we still travel there as it's our favourite Indian restaurant. The staff are always polite and friendly. And the food is the best Indian food...

Great food ,good quality and quantity, available for collection on time,suggest you order at least 45min to an hour before especially if a large order.

A long awaited meal out and it did not disappoint. Fantastic service and delicious food. Highly recommend

Just had a chicken tikka and butter chicken from Rupali, as I’ve tried other takeaways in the area, so thought I’d give this one a try. So, the Tikka was so sweet it was sickly to say the least, the chicken was hard and not fresh, so a Zero for taste and freshness of the chicken. The butter chicken was not better, not so sweet, but clearly not what I’d expect from a butter chicken, I’d say Sainsbury’s do a better one for half the cost of these one’s. The egg fried rice, was as plane as you could get, it was spot the egg...? The Nann bread was ok along with the chapatti. So a “One”From me for the food, won’t be going again. Disappointed to say the least.

I had a takeaway, to which I paid for a meal for 2, when it arrived it was a meal for a child as it was so small and it was a complete mess, it looked like it had been thrown around the restaurant, I...

I would say the Rupali lounge at Bannerbrook is by far the best Indian takeaway in Coventry! I love the vegetable Dansak but have tried many dishes and everything's always amazing. The delivery always comes reasonably quick and the people are very nice and polite. Would highly recommend!
