In the mixed grill the chops and kebabs are good however all the chicken is nasty as skin is not taken off

Vibrant atmosphere and great service! However, I was slightly disappointed with the mixed grill. It wasn’t as tasty as it looked! Hopefully it can be improved in the future!

I recently visited this restaurant, drawn in by its reputation and promise of high-quality Indian food. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointing experience. I ordered the thali, and while it looked fancy and well-presented, the food itself was just okay. The only standout dish was the chicken biryani, which was flavorful, but the rest of the dishes lacked the authentic taste I was expecting. For the price, I was hoping for something far more impressive. Additionally, I couldn’t help but compare this place to Saffron Kitchen on Lea Bridge Road, where the food is more flavourful and authentic. Here, it felt like the focus was more on style than substance, which left me feeling the experience wasn’t worth it. In summary, this restaurant didn’t live up to the hype. If you’re looking for truly great Indian food, I’d recommend skipping this place and heading to Saffron Kitchen instead.

Went there Friday night . The guy who takes your name was unfriendly and did not smile there was another guy who took the order was cold and un friendly. Staff are stuck up . They kept offering. 2 white girls on the table free tea and desserts and smiling with them so they clearly chose who they want to greet and smile at.more welcomeimg restaurants in the area with lovely food. This restaurant is hyped up and overpriced

Atmosphere was good, i already reserved the table so that hassle free experience. Overall food is fine, i ordered mix grill which is good having low spice level my kids enjoyed that. Rest all food was very very spicy kebab, lamb curry, spaghetti also having too much food color. Orange color doesn’t make meat appealing rest was fine.

I came to this place thinking of an ordinary Indian restaurant but no it wasn’t. I came in and the interior was decorated the seats were comfy and clean. But good things come with bad things. I had to wait maybe 5 mins to even order at my table but it was worth it. I got a thali but I can’t remember the name of it but I know is the second thali in the menu. The food was fantastic and I had the tandoori chicken & butter chicken which was so good with the garlic naans. The service was very good and we got a free water. Overall the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever seen.

Went last night with my son and wife sorry to say even though the place was fully packed very busy the food was terrible we ordered Bhel phori was the best thing we had from our four dishes we ordered bao buns meat. masala dosa. Lamb chops which were the worst my 15 year old has ever had totally cheap quality meat poor taste my wife tasted the chops she was shocked such cheap poor quality we ahouod have sent them back undercooked we have travelled the world not just UK this has to be very very worst Lamb chops we have ever had very very poor and I cannot understand why this place was packed has to be for dating and meeting friends but sadly to say the food we had was terrible the masala dosa was totally flavourless just potatoe and onions smashed together no flavour the bao buns my wife had were it was like I eating a lamb curry in a steamed bun it did not go at all it was supposed to be pulled lamb but it was a lamb curry we also had two pina coladas nothing special and feel cheated on spending £60.00 on one of the worst meals ever and I eating a out on a weekly basis I wish I had never gone in there and taken my wife and son to somewhere very below par so I cannot see where they get high ratings …

Love this place! I've been a few times with friends, but tonight took my daughter on a mummy daughter night out & she too loved it. The food was amazing! Customer service was as always great, available if you need them but not forever in your space. Cannot wait to return.

We went to Saffron based on other local friend's recommendations. The food was excellent, slightly pricey. Well cooked and beautifully presented. Agree the foods were good but what wasn't there is welcoming behaviour. We wanted to sit in the middle somewhere but we were told that there would be big group coming so we can sit in one corner and we were offered to sit by the kitchen. Later we saw there was no group and they allowed other families to sit where we wanted to sit. We went to that restaurant from really far as we live outside London so we are disappointed. I would highly recommend the restaurant owner to train their staff about customer service as we do not eat free and all customers should treat equally not based on community. On the positive note, their nihari biriyani, chicken lollipop and rasmalai cake were really good.

Honest opinion: This has to be my favourite Asian shop in Gants Hill area. When you come here the main two dishes to get are the masala chips and the mixed grill. The atmosphere here is a very good vibe, It’s a place I’d definitely recommend. The chai also is definetly worth getting and is served up in a nice way.

Not the greatest but it’s not bad either. The thali and mixed grill were amazing. The curries were average. Drinks were good. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was great. Clean and sparkly. Everyone can be catered for, including children, families, large groups, etc. It is spacious. Parking can be found outside or nearby in the evening.

AWFUL to say the least…. Over cooked mushy soggy Briyani & a tasteless dry mixed grill. Complete waste of money and Xmas dinner treat spoiled ;(

Amazing food and experience, very helpful staff, 10/10 would go again

Not as good as "big bro" Saffron Kitchen but still a nice place to eat. It is a bit pricey for what it is, which is basically a very limited menu (used to be much better a few years ago) and the facilities, example for prayer are nowhere near as good as Saffron Kitchen. But it's a pretty good halal spot in the area.

Knockout restaurant. The food was spot on, all authentic and full flavoured. Had the thali, mixed grill and desserts. Loved the thali, all freshly made so had crunch and flavour. Chops were melt in your mouth and perfectly spiced (also in the mixed grill). Biryani was very good. All good portion size. Mixed grill - succulent chicken and good portion too. Again chops beautifully tender. Salty lassi was excellent. The desserts were amazing. I was expecting a lot from the fried falooda and it beat my expectations, super thin filo pastry giving it a delicate crispy texture with delicious ice cream set in the rest of the falooda components. Never had it this way before and a delicious experience. Milk cake was also a favourite. This is all presented really well and with great service. We went with friends who love this place and has become our favourite restaurant in the area.

Very busy on Saturday night. There was 8 of us and we had booked a table but it seemed they were struggling to get people out who had finished their food so people waiting could sit down. The food came fairly quick which was good and the food was alright, a some items such as the lamb curry were quite spicy which overpowered the flavour. Biryani was good and service was also good, however i think the management is in rush to get people in and out quick to clear tables for the many people congregating by the front door

I believe this restaurant has declined since my last visit in January 2023. On busier days such as weekends staff are more interested in on customers leaving and paying as soon as possible so they can fit in more customers. I guess that is how the business works best to maximise profit. Although the interior is nice overall layout is congested with high levels of noise. Food was average and does not have a unique selling point for the price it charges. Sometimes due to how hot the food is it is difficult to taste the flavour. For a restaurant standard I expect it to be much better than what it was.

The restaurant struggles with several key issues that detract from the experience. For one, the prices are notably high, making it less accessible for casual outings. Additionally, the interior is uncomfortably warm, with no background music to enhance the ambiance. The lack of proper ventilation means the dining area is filled with heavy food aromas, leaving diners’ clothes smelling strongly of the kitchen—a major inconvenience that lingers long after the meal. While the food itself impresses in certain areas, these shortcomings in comfort and atmosphere may make diners think twice before returning, despite the culinary highlights. The highly spoken about masala chips is not all that at all its just a ketchup and vinegar flavoured chips.

Went with my friend because i love their butter chicken. Food was good overall but the lamb shank biriyani was not very nice no flavour or spices at all just a piece of lamb shank with boiled colored rice. Most importantly they should do something about the place being too smelly. The service was average I would give it a five if the staff smiled a little and spoke a bit friendly they act like robots. Couldn’t enjoy the atmosphere just the food.

I had an amazing dining experience at Saffron Street. The place always has a queue and reservations are recommended. The restaurant is nice and spacious with beautiful decor. Ordered the following: The mixed grill came with two of each, pahadi murgh tikka, lamb chops, seekh kebab, tandoori chicken and sholay wings. All the meats were super tender and full of flavour. 5/5 The Indian thali option lets you taste almost every item in small portions. The curries were really tasty especially the biryani and butter chicken. 5/5 Bombay Birria Tacos filled with pulled lamb. The meat was amazingly soft and delicious. 5/5 Masala chips were delicious, a must order. 5/5 Jug of Passion Fruit Mocktail - it was 2 of us and we got a few glasses each. The mocktail was really nice and refreshing. 5/5 The presentation of the dishes were amazing followed by the outstanding service by the staff, they regularly checked on us while we were eating to make sure we had everything we needed. There’s a pay and display car park nearby which is free after 5pm Monday - Saturday. Highly recommend and will be visiting again soon.

Biryani is worse , too much oils in the rice . Not recommended.even we complain to their team no response.also tandoori chicken it’s just a name not taste like tandoori chicken.

Food was ok(👎)...not rich as per the restaurant look... They r not serving as a part of hospitality....thy jst put food plates on the table... U can't feed ur stomach with the restaurant look or atmosphere... Right?

November 2024 Not a great experience on my recent visit. Nimbu chicken was terrible and too oily, mango prawns were too sweet and pulled lamb bao bun was really bad as well. Other usual stuff that we normally order like Nihari biryani and Kolkata chicken was good. So yeah, I came back disappointed and dont think I'll be going back again. February 2024 Wow, what an amazing experience!! We went as a large group with a toddler, and they reserved a very comfortable corner area for us with loads of space for everyone. Indian street food was amazing. We had Chole Bature, Pao Bhaji, Sev Puri, and Dhamaka prawns, and everything was awesome. Karai gosht and butter chicken was nice too but not exceptional. Mixed grill is the only thing I didn't enjoy and was strictly ok. Ras Malai cake is not to be missed and of course tandoori chai is mandatory to finish the meal. All in all an amazing place and I'll be going back very soon.

Excellent restaurant which we visited for my son's birthday dinner. Food was tasty and well presented, service was very good too and staff were helpful. Only thing is, it does get very busy so be sure to book before visiting as waiting time can be an hour on weekends.

I found the staff a bit rude, when I placed the order I just asked how roughly it would take ,he replied rudely saying you just ordered. The staff wasn't friendly at all, the food portion was small. Laal mass and Ribs weren't good at all. I only liked Nihari biryani 7/10

It’s pretty loud in here and seating is super close. I’ve had better lamb chops and I wasn’t a huge fan of the biryani. Samosa chaat was good.

Been there a few times. Food taste keeps changing. Service from our waiter was very good. Had to wait 30 Minutes to be seated. Food arrived pretty quickly. The curries were bland and disappointed my expectations. The chicken Lolipops for the kids were very dry and over cooked. A very expensive order that was not appreciated this time round.

Went to a birthday party. Staff were lovely and very helpful with the cake we had brought in. The food was great, made fresh to order, and even the chips were yummy. I ordered the masala dosa, which came out as wide as the table and was crispy and delicious. Will we be coming back ? Yes!

Went there couple of days ago for a family meal and the server refused to allow my child with food allergies to have food cooked from home. Poor service, not very understanding and very inconsiderate. Please do not take youreself there with family if one requires special requirement.

Visited several times over the past 5 years, and alhamdulillah it's always been a pleasant satiating experience. A bit on the pricey side but the quality of food and service makes it well worth the extra ££s.

*A spontaneous dining experience at Saffron Street* I visited with 4 work colleagues (Saffron Street, Gants Hill) and we were all massively impressed. The food was high quality, presented really well. We started with the mixed grill starter, which was not only packed with a variety of perfectly cooked meats but good value for money. My favourite was the falooda pastry ice cream and desi tea finisher - incredible flavours. Service - quick, attentive, and friendly, Deco - nice and high quality Parking - there’s a car park 2 mins away which is free after 5 and side streets nearby where you can park after 6.30pm so it wasn’t too much of an issue. A must visit for all - suitable for all groups including families.

The person standing at the reception booked my name for a table at 7:15 and said it would take 15-20 minutes. After almost an hour, I was still waiting for the table and he said it would take more time and wasnt sure how much more time it will take. He was very rude and dint even try to speak politely. Customer service is really slow, wouldnt recommend this place at. They showed no basic courtesy towards their customers. Highly dissapointed.

Amazing g food and atmosphere. We had the LD Thali, chicken lollipop, masala chips, milkshakes, mocktails and mix grill. The best by far was the chicken biriani, delicious!

When I placed my order, the staff member was rude and unprofessional. They took my order, said ‘just a minute,’ and then kept it aside without any explanation. After some time, they handed it to me in a very disrespectful manner. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable, and it made my experience at the restaurant quite unpleasant. I hope the management addresses this issue to ensure better customer service in the future.”

Food ok tasty. Presentation is very good. prices were reasonable. Too crowded and noisy. Deco is nice.Needed more toilets for sure.

Superb meal. Mixed grill was beautifully flavoured. My favourite was the Samosa Chaat which I’d never tried before. Great decor. Would have been lovely to have had a glass of wine but there’s no alcohol served.

Ventilation was not good at all. Food was ok but not that tasty that we overpay. Overall ok. You can try once but dn expect anything fancy or extra tasty

Food flavour is ALWAYS!!! 10/10 one of my favourite places to eat mostly because I know the food quality, the flavours are Always exceptional! The service is always really nice and attentive. The chefs, front of house and waiters are always smiling, welcoming and friendly. I have enjoyed coming here dining alone, with my husband, with my family and friends. I haven't brought my children yet but I think for me this is a treat I enjoy as an adult. I have seen many people come with their children, families of different cultures and without me starring as such I always feel they are all having a lovely time 😊 Thank you again Saffron family. Delicious meal again for my husband and I 10/10 5☆ and I can truly say there is not many places I say that about. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽💜💜💜 Oh and the Masala chai delicious as always. Heavenly.

I hate saying anything negative about Saffron Street as it use to be one of my favourite restaurants. The butter chicken, naan, masala chips and desserts are up there with one of the best in London. We always order the indochinese thaali but this time round it was so disappointing! The gulab jamun was stale, the chicken was awful and overly saucy, the chow mein had no flavour. Although I was disappointed, I would go again only for the curries. I don’t think the indo dishes are their strong suit. Staff were amazing!

Just had a dessert there but loved the vibe. The sizzling brownie was on point…. Atmosphere was good. Would visit again for main course!

Our overall experience was not bad, like to put it that way. Not bad is coming from the experience we had for getting the table and how customers are handled. We erroneously booked for Sunday instead of Saturday and that’s where the confusion started. So if you are planning to do please do book table in advance correctly :) For us as reservation was errored we asked for waiting time and there came answers which would not allow you to decide if you can wait or not. Answers are like “we are trying”, “we will do our best” etc., attending customers who have come unbooked was not good. We would have easily taken an answer of don’t wait as it will take more than an hour etc., business is important at the end of day. So after a very long wait we got our table and from that time our experience changed, time to take order and service was very good, wide choices of soft drinks, starters and main dishes. Portions were very good and we ended up with lots for take aways :) value for money was OK but felt drinks were on upper side. The chai ordered was very sweet. Overall this is a good try with a reservation done and expect heavily crowded weekends. Also a request to people dining and doing party, be considerate to owners and other customers in waiting and leave the tables once you are done. We saw a group of people taking own sweet time to leave the table once done as they waited for their birthday cake and then cutting and eating it which easily took an hour extra after their last dish was served. Nothing wrong with this if restaurant is empty. Please be considerate to others.

Ordered today off uber eats, not even half way through the chow mein 65, and 4 pieces of chicken undercooked and raw. Uber dint want too know. £30 down the drain. Has the chef changed, or you changed the butchers....

I recently visited Saffron Street to celebrate my friend birthday, and overall, it was a delightful experience! The ambiance was fantastic, with a lively yet relaxed vibe that set the perfect mood for a special occasion. It was clear that the restaurant put a lot of thought into creating an inviting atmosphere. The food was absolutely amazing! Each dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. From appetizers to dessert, everything was delicious and exceeded my expectations. The service was also top-notch. The staff was incredibly attentive, friendly, and ensured we were well taken care of throughout the evening. Their warm hospitality truly added to the overall experience. However, despite having made an advance booking, we had to wait around 40 minutes to be seated. This was a bit frustrating, especially for a planned celebration. I would suggest that Saffron Street review their reservation and seating process to avoid such delays, as it would greatly improve the overall dining experience.

Attention to detail and service was top class, despite being a packed house.

Made a booking today for 7pm, arrived and said we didn’t make any booking. 13 of us tured up for no reason and saying we have to wait for an hour. This is unacceptable and very disappointed!

Had such an amazing meal here. The food is so consistent, generous and truly flavourful. The service is quick and everyone is really helpful. Will definitely keep coming back!

Asian street food with a twist and an array of flavours blended to this day and age's fine dining without breaking the bank. The mixed grill is off the hook. Baked ice cream and baked falood roll were simply delicious

I had one of the best dining experience here. Everything from the ras malai, samosa, naan, to the thali was absolutely fantastic, and the service was top-notch. I’ve also tried their takeaway from another branch, and their grilled tofu is mind-blowing, along with the delicious chola batura. Highly recommend this place for both dine-in and takeaway!
