Salkaara in Bristol, City of

I requested a reservation and received an email stating I needed to wait for a confirmation. After 5 days waiting for a reply I called the restaurant and was told that the manager would call me. I received no call or email confirming the booking so made other plans. On the evening of the booking the restaurant called me asking where my group was. The lady was very abrupt and when I explained what had happened she simply hung up. A lesson is customer service is definitely required!!!

I had a chicken trio for starters and chicken biryani for mains. We also ordered beers and prosecco for the table. The starter was good but I wished there was more of it. My friends had the lamb chops, which they also said was good. The main was good, however, I wish they put a bit more chicken in it. They adjusted the spice level to my liking. It also came with raita. My mates had the Syrian beef curry, which they really liked too. The food is generally very clean and there's no oilyness. We booked for 21:00 on NYE and finished at around 22:30. The staff were really nice considering we were a bit loud, which may have been because we were the only ones there towards the end. Overall, for Bristol, I'd say it's a decent Indian.

Pretty decent restaurant with an authentic feel to it. Good service but some of the food was just ok.

Our starters were lovely and the best we have had at an Indian restaurant, so we were expecting great things with our main dishes. Unfortunately this was the complete opposite, tiny pieces of chicken in the most horrific looking sauces and tasteless. The lamb shank, was inedible and cold. Not like any curry we’ve had before, just awful!

Tried chicken tikka masala and butter Nan.Chicken masala was very sweet and not worthy for 11.90£.Regarding butter Nan , it was burnt out and totally very disappointed with food .

The food and service was nice and vegan options were available on the menu. The portion sizes have got to commended on the grounds of not being the enormous amount of food that you get when you go to a curry house, there was very little wastage which should be praised. However, it was a shame that there were no vegan deserts on the menu. Despite asking if the sorbet was vegan, which normally is, it would be a nice touch to add a vegan option to the desert as a more sustainable option as well as a few more vegan options.

Always attentive staff and very good food. A bit different from your traditional India restaurant with fine Southern Indian cuisine.

It's such a pretty place with peaceful ambience. We had Nadan Chicken curry and Paneer makhani which was so good. I should definitely praise their Naan, it just took me back to India. We tried the crème brulé which had a Indian touch, it was exceptional!!! The service was amazing :)))

Buena comida. Servicio muy amable, atento, pero no intrusivo. Algunos de nosotros comimos pescado, dos biryani, uno cordero y yo pollo, todos disfrutamos de nuestras comidas. El restaurante está muy bien decorado, con asientos más espaciosos que la media. No es el restaurante indio más barato, pero uno de los mejores que he estado en muchos años. Sin duda volveremos!

One of the best curry houses in Bristol. Incredible food and service every time I’ve been. A range of dishes that you’ve probably never heard of but every single one has been 10/10. Look forward to continuing to try the rest of the menu. The staff are friendly and the value for money is great. Cobra on draught. Always a good meal here, definitely recommend.

The service was excellent, they gave recommendations and were really thoughtful with everything. We ordered two curries, coconut rice, fig and coriander naan(which was amazing) and pappadam. Everything was super delicious and authentic! We will def come back!

A family lunch and did not disappoint. Nice that the menu wasn’t the usual run of the mill curry choices. Syrian beef, prawn and aubergine and the king prawn coconut curry were all excellent. Deserts were lovely too. Very friendly and definitely a place to return too.

So good - have been waiting years and years for an Indian restaurant as good as this to open locally. Had walked past many times and thought that smells amazing. Don't know why it took me so long to actually go in and eat. Now we have I can't believe this place isn't rammed full day and night. Takeaways are good but eating in is lot better - not surprising really - who would order from a Michelin restaurant and expect same experience as dining in! So give it a try now - use it or lose it, before you even know what you missed. Would be such a shame - best I've had in decades - since leaving London in 80's. Been for lunches and dinners - equally great.

What a fantastic meal. We walked in to such a warm welcome. This Indian restaurant has a great atmosphere subtle decor plenty of seating. Visiting on a Wednesday evening the restaurant was full. The food was authentic, well presented and tasted delicious. Great sharing choices at different times of the day from the menu. Excellent service, not rushed. Definitely recommend a visit.

Have just had a fabulous meal at Salkaara. This is not your average neighbourhood Indian - there are many interesting and delicious unusual dishes on the menu, e.g. Tandoori mackerel. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The best indian food in Bristol….. I love it!!! Every dish is cooked to order and is consistently tasty and full of spice. We come here regularly and would not go anywhere else for Kerala style food.

Very warm welcome, very good advice and very good food. We were tempted by the desserts but were no longer hungry (very well served). What's more, we were able to eat despite the late hour.

Really excellent food: the naans were light as a cloud and the Syrian beef curry was one of the best curries I've had in years. Service was good too with very attentive but not intrusive staff. We even got a hot towel at the end, proper old school. They also had an Indian cider, well Indian themed bottle at least. Would definitely recommend.

This is not your standard curry place and there is a different style to this. I could see that they are doing some décor retro but seemed ok. The food was absolutely great. The highlight was the fish polichatu it was just nice. Not your standard stuff and if you are expecting a lot of gravy perhaps you need try one of the curries. But I thoroughly enjoyed this especially when mixing with the curry sauce from my friends. Would definitely recommend…

It was great! I walked in with no booking and was offered a table immediately even though it was busy. The food was incredible, delicious and authentic, the service was delightful and the price was SO reasonable. Om definitely going again.

Been here two times now and had a wonderful experience both times, the food is absolutely fantastic and both my partner and I look forward to trying new dishes each time we come The staff are lovely and can't do enough for you and the overall atmosphere is great too. The music is perfect background volume and the general chatter of everyone having a good time just adds to it. I have recommended here to multiple friends and family already and look forward to coming back again.

I went to Sakkaara to celebrate my son’s birthday. We had a great evening, lovely food (taster menu especially good) and the staff could not have been nicer.

Best Indian food in Bristol. Super flavours and selection for all palettes. In our group we had pescatarian and vegetarians and both were well catered for. Can’t recommend enough.

Very much enjoyed previous visits to this restaurant but this time was distinctly disappointed. For the first time ordered the so called 'very tender' Lamb Shank. Whilst I wouldnt say the lamb was tough it wasn't easy getting it off the bone, had to really prise it off. It was certainly not 'very tender' as slow cooked lamb shank should be.

Went here on the off chance a year ago and were so surprised at the great quality of the food, really delicious, not greasy but beautifully balanced flavours. It’s not far from our house and we were expecting a more old fashioned curry house so it was great to find this gem on our doorstep. We’ve been many many times since!

First time dining here early Sunday evening with my mum and daughter. The Service was excellent with Han who is a really friendly waitress and host. Beautiful food, well presented. I tried the Dhaba Murg which was delicious and my mum and daughter the tikka masala.

We tried the onam sadhya at Salkara and it was just amazing! The food tasted authentic and yummy! There were lots of different varieties of sadhya items and the staff there were very warm and friendly.. can’t wait to come back again next year to have the sadhya again ☺️

There was really good flavour, but the vegetable curry was lacking vegetables, so was more of a sauce with a few bits of veg in it.

The food here is ok. I wish it was really authentic but it’s been altered to “suit the British palate” and because of that I found it underwhelming. I was disappointed. I shall go to that well known and real South Indian in Patchway!

This is one of the best Indian restaurants we have ever been to. There’s a lovely atmosphere here, polite attentive staff and the food is excellent. Hats off to the chef. This was our first time but it certainly won’t be our last. Fabulous.
