On the positive side, service was kind and wine pairings were excellent, with very generous pours and generally good food portions. Decor choices created a relaxed and comfortable vibe. The venison course was exceptional and the risotto flavourful. On the critical side, though, some of the courses were a bit of a miss. The scallop, drowned in hollandaise and coated with a soggy spinach and bacon pile, was almost as disappointing as the very basic (and single bite of) tortellini. Service was variable. Excellent attention to some details, such as napkin folding and cutlery replacement. But lacking in warmth and connection elsewhere: I would have expected a bit more of a welcome and introduction to the menu, for example, or a suggestion to order an aperitif. On the whole, our experience was comfortable, but it missed the mark for full-blown fine dining, while still being too formal for a more relaxed, upmarket bistro. And though for the range of food I suppose it was objectively of good value, I felt we paid a bit more than was merited in the end.

Six course tasting menu lunch. We have dined here on numerous occasions since the day they opened. It was the first restaurant we visited after lockdown. This is also our first tasting menu of the New Year. Six courses available Tuesday to Thursday evening and Saturday lunch £50. They also offer a wine pairing. If you really want to go for it, there's an excellent cheese course £18. It's amazing that such good food comes out of a small kitchen and Chef Dan coped really well on his own. You can't really call this a hidden gem as it's located on Alfreton Road at Canning Circus. It's a gem but not so hidden.

We had a lovely meal here last Friday. Nice ambience. Warm, lighting cosy but able to see the food & hear ourselves talk. Nice staff. Crowd pleasing flavours done with a twist & lovely presentations. We had 1 wine flight between 2 as I don’t drink a lot. My husband thought the wine pairing was hit & miss but I enjoyed them all as they weren’t wines I usually get to drink. The only small thing that wasn’t so good & is highly fixable, was the decaf coffee. I couldn’t finish my espresso even with sugar. Sorry Sans Patrie, I wonder if you’ve tasted your decaf? Other than that was all very enjoyable.

We paid our second visit to this restaurant, to try out their new 2025 tasting menu. As at our previous visit, both the service and food was excellent. We chose the 6 course menu with the wine pairings. The food was very carefully cooked and full of delicious tastes and the wine complemented each course perfectly. We'll be back again!

Simply very good food, nothing pretentious! Just great dishes with quality ingredients. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere too. Will definitely be back!

Awful ….slow to the point of ridiculous. Staff lovely but I honestly can’t say after many years of food tasting menus I’ve had a worse one sadly.

Excellent quality and decent portions for a Taster menu! Very efficient and friendly staff and although quite expensive it was reasonable value. Perhaps a better fish than Coley could have been used though as this was either a little overcooked or not the best quality. Everything else was excellent

We had a great meal in this small restaurant at Canning Circus. Tasty food and reasonably priced wine. The staff were all young, attentive and very personable. Six courses for £70 with an additional cheese course at £15. Lovely bottle of red wine £40 very reasonable. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. We highly recommend & will be returning.
