I always order off Uber Eats and this place is consistently amazing, prices are so much better than other Chinese takeaways too. Wish they staffed up a bit though as they keep closing early due to being too busy so when you plan to order for dinner it keeps just closing, other than that my favourite takeaway in Brighton by miles!

Went there tonight as fancied a Chinese, greeted with we're not open, but the sign on the door clearly said was open and it was 5.10. Greeted with a lady I asked for something simple Sweet and Sour chicken which she asked what kind. I said I wasn't sure and asked her what she suggested, then shouted at me saying "You come in here without an idea what you want' I told her it wasn't good customer service and she waved me away so I left. I would avoid only if you enjoy confrontation with your chicken!!!!!

Wow! What a fantastic meal. Delicious food. All tasted delicious and fresh. The pineapple in the sweet and sour was sensational, the Chinese leaf was so yummy. It was great to see such great chunky bits. The egg fried rice was really tasty, the egg pieces were big and really golden. Really really impressed, I will be ordering from now on.

Great restaurant! Made for a delicious meal. The least appreciated food we got was the mini spring rolls, but we were very full from the main dishes that were perfect!

The food was absolutely delicious, fresh and very hot (temperature) The lady on the front desk was so happy and cheerful with a beautiful smile, she was patient and so happy to help. Will definitely be going back for more :-)) I even got some free prawn crackers :-)

Yeah, no. Ordered on uber and they forgot our prawn crackers, the toppings on my special fried rice were slimy and the meat was kindof inedible, and my boyfriend got food poisoning from his singapore noodles. I ordered fried greens too and they tasted kindof chemically? Will never order from here again.

Ordered through Uber eats (called Shanghai express on there) Ordered two dishes which were labelled as hot and spicy and both just tasted so sweet and not spice at all. Too sweet for us to eat Special fried rice was nice, although much smaller than other places (not made to share)

I ordered from this takeaway place because my usual go-to was closed. In terms of the food, it wasn’t awful. The egg fried rice was good and the seaweed was nice and crispy. However, the aromatic duck was quite wet? There also wasn’t much meat on the duck bone, a lot of it was just bones. It also came nearly an hour late. Granted it’s possible this is due to the delivery driver so if you are going to order from here I’d recommend collecting your order. I can’t argue for any of the other dishes as I haven’t tried them however, I do not think the aromatic duck is worth the price.

I honestly don't know where the bad reviews are from. These guys are the best takeout I've been to in Brighton so far. Nice staff, affordable prices, quick service, and just all round good vibes. I enjoyed their meal and came back the next day. I mean, for me to come back to drop a review, I felt it's the least I can do to help this small business for giving good service. Humans are hard to please, I don't know where the bad reviews are from really.

Food wasn’t hot. It was just luke warm. Salt & chilli squid and Chrispy shredded chilli beef has texture like rubber. First time and last time. Further to the above review, we’ve discovered that the cold food was entirely the fault of the Uber delivery driver. He kept our meal for 40mins and then made another delivery before ours. So the restaurant is not to be blamed.

Brilliant. Ordered through a known prover, delivewambat...., Deliverwwws were useless, couldn't/ wouldn't help at all. The restraunt, perfect, great communication, so understanding, brilliant food (they took a chance). I will always prefer direct, delighted with the food and the service from the restaurant (the wombats can go jump) - much cheaper direct Thank you Shanghai Gardens

We were pleasantly surprised by how much this takeaway has improved since we last ordered. Food was delicious and fresh, delivered quickly and still hot. My only complaint would be the small size of the satay sauce — for £2.50, it was not worth the price and much smaller than any extra sauce we’ve ordered before. Would not pay this price for a small plastic pot again. It was a shame as the sauce was delicious and this was our only issue. Would recommend!

We are ordering delivery from the restaurant quite often. Every time food are delicious, big portions, good packing and still hot. Prices are reasonable. So we are happy to be their customers.

Stone cold, missing items , phoned the restaurant and they just passed the buck. They blamed deliveroo for the missing items too . Real shames as they are so good . Their indifference was depressing . No refund as of yet

Well I looked at the reviews after I had ordered and was somewhat regretting it!! However I have to say it was fine and I have no complaints. Plus I wrote this the next day to make sure I was still fine which I am!

Very disappointed. Ordered special fried rice... some of the prawns still had shell on and most of them hadn't been de-vained. Ordered sweet chilli sauce, tasted it and it was sweet n sour sauce just with added chilli. Ordered the salt n chilli ribs the meat was so dry hard to swallow.

After all that terrible reviews on Google I was scared to order from Shanghai Garden. But i did it and I am happy to get hot, fresh and tasty food. The portions are big. Food is spicy balanced and delicious. Separate thanks for the quick delivery.

I don’t know about delivery options (because I collect from the store). I order 1/4 of duck and when I saw it was disappointing about the size for £10. Tested at home and was DELICIOUS!!!! Crispy,fat at the right point and juicy. Nick helped me to make my first order,extremely friendly,kind and helpful. Just a little bit of soya sauce in the plan chow mein and the perfection is nearly there. I waited only 8 minutes at the store to received my food,looks like kitchen is fast but delivery guys a bit distracted 😉

Have ordered regularly from Shanghai Garden over the last 4 years. Wait time has always been an issue and the food hit and miss though usually hit. Waited 1 hour 45 minutes today. Called twice, 1st time they told me it was 5 mins away (it didn’t come for another 30 mins) and 2nd time he said the driver should be there (I agree!) neither time was there even a hint of an apology. When the food arrived it was burnt. Won’t ever order from them again. AVOID!

Absolutely vile and not ordering again. Sometimes it can be good. Or sometimes you get reheated grey looking food. Also you can taste the dirty wok they’ve used and not cleaned properly.

Fantastic little takeaway spot. Food came very hot and freshly made. Chilli beef was crunchy, sweet and tangy just like mother earth envisioned it. The lemon chicken was also delicious and sweet, perfect for dipping the prawn crackers. Prawn toast was nice, soft and crunchy outsides. Must be under new management because I can’t believe all the 1* review. Now I found this gem I won’t order Chinese food anywhere else.

Very happy with my food, didn’t read the bad reviews until after I had ordered. My food arrived in good time and within the approximate delivery time slot. I ordered through deliveroo! I was very pleased to be able to get broccoli as often Chinese takeaways don’t do broccoli! (In my experience) The chicken balls had good chicken to batter ratio and the sweet and sour sauce wasn’t too sweet. I don’t usually order the other dishes so I can’t compare but they were perfectly fine, I think I should have chosen a meat chow mien rather than veg because it didn’t seem to be that flavoursome, but that my bad choice not the food quality .

Ordered via Deliveroo and the good came on time. Ordered the menu E for 4 people and we were 3. Food was abundant and delicious. Will definitely have again.

Thought we would try somewhere different as I fancied seafood......this has to be the worse Chinese I've had in a long time. Crispy spring rolls were soggy, Mixed seafood was tasteless awith bits of chewy squid, the odd prawn and gristly mussels. Rice well was just rice and the so called Singapore noodles were very Bland and don't get me started on the free mini spring rolls I think they must have been leftovers from a week ago.....never again, will stick to Peony in West End Village they might not do the seafood but their food is always very good.

No 89 House special Chow Main - Ordered this take away late in the evening. The delivery took 35 min on Deliveroo. This was so good; fresh, the sauce was delicious and the portion was big. The variety of well cooked meat was definitely complimenting each other, good cooking oil was used (Duck, Chicken, Prawn). The occasional price of well seasoned duck meat and generous pieces of chestnut made this one special.

Me and my friend were looking forward to this delivery so we ordered through their app which was easy to use. We ordered what we wanted and they sent a message saying that it was received and will be delivered within the hour. HOWEVER, an hour and a half later nothing. We call them and call them, no response. We message over and over again, nothing. They say they provide a delivery service... I think not. They be a quack! On top of that no option to cancel and refund or anything. Money taken from account, no idea how to get refund headache for tomorrow #never again #do not use Thanks for nothing

Worst take away ever! First order took 3 hours to arrive but it was a busy Saturday so thought would try them again. Put order in early at 5.30 by 8.15 still no food. Phoned them at 7 and was told it was on its way! Restaurant not answering phone so drove down there to get refund. Terrible service do not use or be prepared to wait hours and hours for your food.

Friendly service, food was hot, fresh and nicely cooked. I didn't get an MSG hangover next day which was a bonus.

Shanghai Garden is the Chinese epicenter of Kemptown, on a good day it's salt and pepper squid is second to none, if you don't agree with that surely you will fail, without honer. Edit: This review was for the old owners, can confirm the s&p Squid has gone to sh*t ☹️

powdery flavourless meat, rice not cooked properly with weird aftertaste, bland sauces - this was an extremely underwhelming Chinese takeout, lacking in craftsmanship or even interest in the food itself - just six trays of boring that got left on the kitchen table . .

I'm glad I didnt read the reviews until after as I would have been put off! Not sure if there's been a change in management or chef, because it was truly the best veggie Chinese. Will definitely have it again

Our food was terrible! The beef was so crispy you couldn’t taste the beef at all. We also phoned back to let them know we don’t want the food because it was so bad, and they we’re really rude. However, we spoke to deliveroo and they were really helpful and gave us a refund.

Shame it has such low reviews. I tried tonight and my meal was delicious. Just what I wanted. Tofu salt pepper, beansprouts chow mein and veggie duck. All great. I have been using Shanghai Garden for years now and in the past it was hit and miss. I gave another chance because the veggie meat they used it so tasty.

Pensé que le daría una oportunidad a Shanghai Gardens y a los 33. 00 para tres bandejas de costillas a la barbacoa, dos bolsas de pollo agridulce, salsa de curry y salsa de barbacoa y una bolsa de papas fritas, era un poco más caro de lo que normalmente pago, así que pensé que iba a ser bueno. Entrega muy rápida, 30 minutos y eso fue todo lo bueno que tenía. Las costillas a la barbacoa eran horribles, sin sabor a la salsa era como agua al rojo vivo. Las bolas de pollo son grandes pero bastante grasosas. Estarían bien si quitas la masa y la sumerges en la salsa agridulce, que es bastante buena. Y la salsa de curry estaba bien ish también. Nunca volveré a usar este restaurante de nuevo. Mi hijo acaba de estar enfermo después de comerlo. Realmente no puedo recomendar este restaurante en absoluto, mi única recomendación es que cierra o recibe chefs que pueden cocinar.

Was okay, nothing special and really not worth almost £30. When you order a main dish they offer rice for an extra +60p usually this means you get a separate rice. Not here! They give you half rice and half your expensive dish (costing over £6 each) a complete rip off, if you do order here, order the rice separate so you actually get what you ordered. No free prawn crackers or anything, our usual Chinese is closed Tuesdays but they offer us free prawn crackers and free spring rolls when you spend over £15! I would not order from here again, seems like they are running the place on the cheap!

At first I wasn’t sure as there are mixed views but the food arrived promptly and all meals looked fresh and just how I like it! All food was still hot when it arrived and all the family was happy. I will definitely order again and recommend to others in the future.

La primera vez que pedimos aquí y estábamos nerviosos ya que las críticas eran muy variadas. Gr 8 comida entrega rápida. Vege pollo brochetas y sal y chili tofu eran increíbles. Normalmente no quiero perder el tiempo escribiendo un comentario, pero el jardín de Shanghái ha cambiado de chef. El pollo agridulce apenas tenía salsa agridulce y la mitad del plato era cebolla. ¡Están ahorrando dinero alimentándonos CEBOLLAS! ¡CEBOLLAS! Y el conductor de la entrega es un hombre rudo y miserable que claramente carece de sentido común para leer las notas de los clientes cuando entregan. Nuestro timbre a nuestro piso no funciona, así que le damos instrucciones para que suene nuestro teléfono. . pero obviamente para él esto significa estar de pie mirando hacia arriba como un pez a la espera de migas de pan.

He usado este take away durante muchos años, sin embargo creo que debe haber cambiado de manos o al menos el Cook, pedí un Prawn Curry y Rice.Luke cálido, con muy pocas gambas pero muchos grandes juncos de cebollas y guisantes, yla salsa de curry era como sopa clara o agua de plato. Parece que tendré que encontrarotro chino quita.

Take away located in the heart of Kemptown just of At James's Street. They have they own app get discount also order though just eat. Everyone complain about smaller portions but I prefer it anyways. For me it's one of the best in Brighton

Chose here because it had vegetarian options. Arrived within half an hour which I initially thought was good, however the noodles did not appear very fresh, more like re-heated. Was also not happy to have paid £5 for the veggie satay sticks which were welded together with hardly any satay sauce on them. Won't order from here again. The delivery man was nice though.

there was bits of bone cartilage or plastic in the rice so it was not nice apart from that it was ok normally amazing from this place but tonight was below standard from them so i wont use again cause i dont like hard plastic bits in my rice

Lovely food from this takeaway as always - but took 1.5 hours to arrive.

The meal we did receive (and quite quickly) was average at best. Some items were as expected (chicken satay)....but others such as the cashew chicken were inedible (straight to the bin...bye, bye £15)...but the biggest issue was we did not receive two of the dishes ordered but the restaurant was kind enough to include one we did not order.... Make the food better consistently and deliver what is ordered and you would have a 5 star review...unfortunately...I simply cannot recommend as is....

What we received was tasty, but it took just over an hour and they gave us curry sauce for the sweet and sour chicken balls instead of the sweet and sour sauce. And all the sauce had spilt into the bag from another dish so was quite messy when all we wanted to do was eeeeeeeeat. But don't get us wrong, the food was nice.
