We went for Christmas Day lunch and it was disappointing to say the least. We spent £85pp and for that I’m expecting a pretty darn good roast dinner. This isn’t a dig either, I just think it’s important to give honest feedback on this as I want to support local businesses and I have had nice meals previously at the Shrewsbury and want them improve. I was anxious about this meal as we’d had food close to bonfire night previously and it not good but I was hoping they might improve before Christmas. Let’s be clear, the food was not cooked well, the vegetables were not seasoned and lacked any flavour, the meat was overcooked and the roast potatoes were the worst I’ve ever tasted in any restaurant, period. I’m just not quite sure how you can get them to be so bad, it was like eating leather. I’d have been happy with some Aunt Bessie’s ones they were that poor. The Yorkshire pudding was crunchy, lacking any of the expected texture, the stuffing rubbery and the gravy was 100% instant mix. There was genuinely not one redeemable thing about that main meal. As for the starters, if you’re doing pate like that you should be serving that on crunchy toast, not luke warm , barely toasted bread and it certainly wasn’t brioche toast as was claimed on the menu either. I don’t plan on coming back in the future despite having eaten here on a number of occasions previously. I’ll wait and see if it improves but if something doesn’t change then it wouldn’t surprise me to see this place close in the not too distant future and that would be a travesty.

We were in a room on our own as a family. It's a lovely pub and had good expectations but the time from when the first person in our group got their meal until the last person was served must have been over half an hour. They ate on their own in the end. I think the pub was too busy for the amount of staff. The food wasn't very nice and wasn't worth the wait. I don't like giving bad reviews and looking at other reviews with better scoring maybe the chef had a bad day but our meal wasn't worth the money and it took too long.

What can I say, a friend has mentioned this place a few times , we were looking for somewhere we didn't know so suggested here. About 40 minutes drive for us but , worth every ounce of petrol. Finally decided on a steak and stilton pie , a meat and potato pie and an oppenheim burger, after drooling at everyone's food being taken past ( looked amazing) ours arrived , omg do we eat it or climb it . Every mouthful was delicious , tender and totally enjoyed. My friends recommendation was worth it and will definitely be back . Lovely cosy pub , polite courteous helpful staff. Very reasonable price My only issue was no cheese pie available today but on my list for next time.

Booked for dinner with friend. Shown yo table and given menus, no mention of specials. Decide on pie only to be told there was no pies left. Order chicken in garlic and mushroom sauce with chips and green beans. Green beans were rather than al dente need an al dentist they were that hard. Chicken, mushroom and sauce had literally no flavour at all, nothing. Chips had wedges in them and were just off being far too overcooked. To top it off, lights turned off round us at 930. All in all a very disappointing experience.

We visited this country pub whilst staying for a short weekend break in the area. We both chose pie options for our meals; they were amazing (not these awful dishes of stew with a puffy pastry top found in most pubs these days). Truly proper traditional home made pies that tasted so freshly cooked with peas and chips to die for! The staff are so friendly and inviting in comfortable 'country pub' surroundings. We will definitely be looking forward to visiting again in the future and staying on site in our caravan. Highly recommended.

There was more grease oil in the batter than the quantity of fish. Everything was from frozen. Potatoes were smelly and raw inside. My son had a meat pie and quality was appalling too! Fish portion was small, prize as high as the top quality fish and chip of London! I feel I have thrown £30 in the bin!

Called in here for hot drinks when out walking in area. Really friendly welcome at the bar. Had 12 Yr old twins with us and 3 dogs. This was not an issue. Dogs are welcome inside although we chose to sit outside so twins could play on the small play area. Lovely beer garden. Decided to order a couple of bowls of chips to go with our drinks. These were amazing, if you like chunky chips I recommend you order a bowl. There is a field next door containing lama's and geese. Kids loved seeing them. Menu looked really good and well priced. I do plan to return to eat here.

Been several times but will never go again. Ordered pie and mash. About a quarter of the way through I happened to turn the pie over to find mould. It was spread throughout the pastry. They tried to say it was colour transfer from the baking time. But it was clumpy, will not recommend. I emailed my feedback, plus I'd spoken to them when I was there. Not had an acknowledgement or response.

I came here with friends for my birthday after the pub being recommended to me . The Sunday roast was nice, although I didn't like broad beans . The atmosphere was good as the pub is oldy worldly . We have a mixed opinion with the staff . There was one girl who didn't seem happy at all when she served us . She banged the glasses down on the table and tutted at one point . We told the young lad our feelings and he said he would pass it onto the management I asked to see the management but they didn't come to us and never made themselves known . It's a shame as the rest of the staff were ok . Not sure if I will return .

MORE AT Google

The Shrewsbury Arms is a dining experience that can only be described as a blend of Gordon Ramsay’s fiery perfectionism, Jamie Oliver’s rustic charm, and a dash of Heston Blumenthal's mad genius. If you’re looking for a Sunday dinner that will make you question why your own roast at home even exists, then this is the place for you. I’ve also had the pie — with the star of the show… This isn’t just any pie. This is the pie that other pies whisper about in awe. It's as if the culinary gods themselves descended from the heavens, handed the chef a golden rolling pin, and said, "Make the pie to end all pies." The crust is so flaky that when you cut into it, a gentle breeze seems to waft from it, as if the pie itself has sighed in contentment. The filling? Oh, the filling. It’s a meaty, gravy-laden masterpiece that could bring a tear to Ramsay's eye, though he'd never admit it. Imagine a perfect balance of savoury goodness, seasoned with herbs that were probably plucked by woodland elves at dawn. And the Sunday dinner—don't even get me started. The roast beef is so tender that even Jamie Oliver would pause his incessant "pukka" exclamations to quietly weep into his Yorkshire pudding. Speaking of which, the Yorkshire puds are like fluffy clouds, expertly engineered to soak up the rivers of gravy that flow like the Amazon across your plate. I wouldn't be surprised if Heston Blumenthal had a hand in the chemistry behind these puds—they’re that scientifically perfect. The vegetables are so fresh and vibrant, they could probably win a beauty contest against some supermodels. The potatoes—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside—are so moreish that they might actually be addictive. I found myself eating more than my fair share, and I have no regrets. In short, if you ever find yourself within a hundred-mile radius of the Shrewsbury Arms, drop everything and make your way there immediately. Your taste buds will thank you, your waistline might not, and your own cooking will never seem quite the same again.

Arrived at 7:35 on Saturday night, there were people in the dining area and some tables available. Waited at the sign by the door as instructed but no one came so moved up to the bar and asked a young staff member if they were serving food and had a table for two. The staff member shouted another member of staff who said no. As it was relatively early for a Saturday I asked what time their kitchen stopped serving. The young staff member again had to call to ask the other member of staff what time, who shouted back 7:30. It clear was a decision was just made by the staff member as the young member of staff didn't have a clue. We found the place unfriendly and cold. Went to the Ring O' Bells in Christleton who could not have been more welcoming and the food was delicious there.

Service was smiley, swift and welcoming and the restaurant has a lovely feel about it - homey, warm and just very pleasant. The dessert prices do make your eyes water, but once in a while you have to treat yourself don’t you?? That gripe apart, we had a lovely meal and a grand time. The real ales on offer are superb and Laura always goes the extra mile to make sure you are served properly, happy with everything and well looked after. We stopped at a campsite a 5 min walk away and decided to book a meal and were not dissapointed. Fantastic pub, great food and all staff very very accommodating and friendly. Very dog friendly too. We had the dirty burgers and bought a kids pizza meal all of which were generous portion sizes and tasted good. Deserts were great too we reccomend the kebab desert wow ! Good choice of beers too. We left feeling very full and relaxed. If we end up in the area again we will definitly make sure we call in for some food.

We are on holiday from Aberdeen and were staying at Elm Cottage down the road. We ended up here for dinner our first night and the food was great! We had nachos and some beer battered cauliflower to start with a lasagne and chicken in a basket to follow along with 3 kids meals. The weather was nice so we sat outside in the garden and the kids got to run around and see the chickens, geese and alpacas that lived next door. The food was all fresh and hot and tasty! Just how pub food should be! The staff are all so wonderful! Really polite, friendly and up for a laugh. They were also so accommodating for the kids too! We decided to rebook for our last night. Again the food was just perfect. Mushroom soup. Battered courgettes. Sunday roast. Loaded burger. Couldn’t finish the mains as it’s just too much food! Great service again and the atmosphere is just so chilled and relaxed. Thank you so much for making us all feel welcome! Please if you are in the area give this wee pub a try!

We’ve visited this pub before while staying at Elm Cottage, remembering how welcoming and friendly it was we returned again this visit. We knew the pub can get busy so booked a table for Friday night and also Sunday night for food. Great menu to choose from and it changes on a weekly basis, which is amazing. Great selection of real ales and lagers. Food was amazing on both nights as were the staff, very friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them. Lovely restaurant, if weather is good you can also eat outside, they have a great sized beer garden. The pub is also dog friendly too, which is a bonus especially if you want a meal out and have pooches. The pub also has some pitches at the back of the site, with electric hook up and a smart shower and toilet block. We have pre booked to stay here the next time we go away. Looking forward to our next visit.

Put a phone order in. Collected it they read it out was fine. Got home and 2 things missing. Maybe if the women on the phone wasn’t so miserable and going “yeah” “yeah” no thank you nothing. Needs to get a new attitude same atmosphere inside aswell. Went in to get rest of order once I got home and got “soz bout that” couldn’t even speak proper English to me and got scowled at the whole time while they were getting my missing items. Love this chippy been using for years but lately it’s the service they lack, it’s not hard to smile and costs nothing to be nice. There is another chippy up road which is just as good and they are nice so if you want customer service and good food go there.
