Good food friendly staff, top marks

After a difficult day with family in hospital, we just wanted a reasonably priced meal on 30th Dec. Manageress on duty made a point of ignoring us, a long wait to be served, we gave up in the end as she walked past us almost smirking. Not impressed at all, poor communication, no explanation, no apology, no customer service - give it a miss, I would.

The food was the most terrible disappointment. A roast dinner where everything on the plate was undercooked or overcooked. Just avoid the place.

Met with family at a midway point for both. Enjoyed our meal very much. Staff were very friendly. Will definitely do this again. This place also allows dogs so we didn't have to leave ours at home for hours. They have a section separated from the main restaurant for dogs which is good as not everyone likes them.

Not as good as it used to be. The tables are sticky and it can be difficult to get someone's attention to pay the bill when you are ready to leave. The last couple of times we visited the wait time for food felt way too long for the quantity of customers in the building.

Staff were friendly and attentive and despite being warned there would be debate in food being served due to the restaurant being very busy we were served very quickly. The food was perfectly cooked and piping hot. Overall a lovely experience

We had a booking of 7 this evening. Haven’t been in years but ordered a range of starters, mains and a birthday cake for our Dad and I have to say we will be back. Food was amazing and well presented and our server Evelyn went above and beyond for us.

The food was good, empty restaurant 11.30am staff weren't at all attentive when we arrived. To busy chatting amongst themselves. Eventually we were seated, and our order taken 15 minutes after we arrived. If the restaurant was busy I'd understand the wait. Not as good as it used to be sadly.

We had a lovely lunch yesterday December 18th. Dispite problems with their card reader, the staff were very professional and very friendly

We often visit the Skylark for a pre-Christmas meal to help us get into the festive spirit & are rarely disappointed. As usual the traditional turkey dinner was excellent, with portions more than adequate for even the largest of appetites. Both my wife & I struggled to complete the meal, especially as we had ordered 'extras' which were probably unnecessary given the size of the main portions. Service was also very good with pleasant, attentive waitresses who were always on hand to assist where required. My only criticism was that the chairs could have been a little cleaner as there were a lot of stains on the seat fabric where food had been spilt which was a bit off putting. Also the table was still quite sticky despite being wiped prior to our arrival. Other than that, a most enjoyable evening & I'm sure we will return again next Christmas for more of the same.

The food is not too bad. Service is pretty good.

Food a little bit cold but otherwise all very nice. Jasmine was very attentive and a great server.

We came for breakfast with Santa and it was a truly dreadful experience. The first round of drinks brought out were cold. The food took over an hour to be brought to us - no apologies or discount offered then we were rushed to see Santa even though we were only partway through the breakfast! The breakfasts were missing items and then when we had them brought out they were burnt and the food was cold. Wouldn’t recommend that place to anyone.

Very disappointing. Typical bland, soulless roadside chain eatery. Presents itself as a premium place but in reality is just Wetherspoons but pricier. No style, no individuality. Staff were friendly enough, nice quick service. Food average at best. Not a bad gluten free selection. Cowboy burger was tasty but not exactly imaginative. Thai curry was bloody awful. Microwaved rubbish, barely worthy of a ready meal. No accompaniments, no flavour. Awful. We were going to order dessert but just couldn't be arsed. Won't be returning or going to any other Marston brand places. Avoid. There's a McDonald's next door. Go there instead.

Had a family meal for my daughter’s 18th birthday, it was amazing, nothing was too much trouble, very polite and friendly service! Emily was fantastic! She looked after us brilliantly, definitely recommend skylark especially for special occasions

We were in a party of 7 for my friend's birthday dinner. 3 of the steaks were really overdone and sent back for replacements which were all good. The female server who brought out the food was a bit passive aggressive, even though it took a while to be served. The second lady (Evelyn was the name on the card but not sure which server it was. She was dressed in green/red christmas dress with blonde hair tied up) was friendlier and was very prompt in checking that out food was alright. My own meal was good.

Charlotte was lovely, her service was great and we were made to feel at ease and looked after :)

Tuesday evening a meal for 2 Both are pescatarians. My wife had pasta and I had the veggie pie with mash and peas. The meals were great and good value. The service from AMY as usual was so friendly and attentive, making it a lovely evening Thank you 🙏

The food took ages to arrive. We had two small children. We asked if they could bring their food out first as they were starting to get impatient. Them getting impatient led to parents getting impatient. No complaints over food quality and atmosphere.

Booked in advance and requested as round tabe as this was supposed to be a birthday lunch for my daughter (adult), it turned out to be anything but. Once seated on a wobbly rectangular table, asked about my booking as was told "we don't have any round tables, only oval ones! Ordered 6 meals, something to complain about with each. Steak - ordered rare, was overcooked and the replacement was not a good cut of meat with lots of gristle. Hunters chicken was very dy and crispy round the edge. 3 Burgers, all the "french fries" were overcooked and had very crispy outer with no potato filling. Mixed grill, again steak ordered rare but was overcooked. All in all, not a pleasant meat!

We have gone to the skylark regularly over the years and on the whole usually good service and food I know new management have come in recently so it's a settling in period but 2 weeks ago I ordered chicken tikka masala that I have had many times before & is very nice always had with it large poppadom & a large proper warm naan bread, this time when it arrived it had a poppadom & cold small TRIANGLE bit of naan! My husband has ordered the hunters chicken that's smothered in barbecue sauce now several times & its very lacking in barbecue sauce 🤨 he's had to ask for extra sauce it came via a sauce bottle, I've had the battered fish last month it was hard batter & couldn't see a lot of fish to be honest but we will go a few more times to see how rest of the menu pans out

Pre-booked online for a party of 11 as this was a central point to meet up. Four cars, each with journeys of 40-45 minutes. Arrived to be told they could not find our booking, then discovered the booking had been cancelled (not by us). Fortunately, the manager (Emma) managed to rearrange some seating, with the goodwill of some other guests who agreed to move to different tables, so we're able to accommodate us. Not an enjoyable start to the family gathering, though. It did, unfortunately, mean that each family group had to order separately at the bar instead of the entire order being taken at the table, so we didn't all eat together. I can't fault the way the problem was handled at the pub, but it highlighted just how poor the central system was. Also, apparently, there is no way of the manager feeding this back to Head Office, which seems very strange. The food was OK, not generous portions, especially considering that this isn't the cheapest Marstons pub.

Decent service but the food was terrible. Reminded of an 80's pub. Mixed grill was bad, rubber chicken undercooked steak. I won't go back

Great food quick service food reasonably priced

Food was good, hot and very well presented. Staff friendly and helpful but no way will I return during the winter months, it was absolutely freezing cold in there. So cold I couldn't enjoy my meal even though I was sat the whole time with my coat on. Not what I expect when I go into a restaurant for a leisurely meal to catch up with relatives.

Usually good food and good value however avoid Sundays

The team at the skylark were amazing. I had pre-booked a Christmas meal and at the last minute had extra people coming, they were able to fit us all in. The table was laid out in a very festive way with crackers. The food was amazing and the staff were so friendly. It was an amazing night and I can’t wait to be back again

Not been in here for a while as it went downhill but tried it the other night and the food was very good. Beer OK but not a lot of choice. Waitress Evelyn very efficient and friendly.

Good food & service at reasonable price

The food was very good. The chips were especially nice, well cooked. We all ate every bit of our food, which is always a good sign. The waitress was friendly and polite. The food was a little slow arriving, but all in all, very good.

Great food, served to us hot, friendly staff, seating not too close together so you could chat and feel comfortable, good value for money with plenty of choice.

The service from start to finish was excellent. The food was tasty, hot and plentiful. Emily C served us throughout and gave great service. Would highly recommend.

Stopped for lunch on the way to Dorset. Fantastic lunch and superb service from Taylor. He was very professional and courteous throughout, and checked that everything was ok.

Few weeks ago we decided to go there. We know this place from years but now we were very disappointed. Staff was nice but..table was dirty and very sticky..we ordered chicken hunter all meals and yes like You see at picture wasn’t added bbq sauce at any meal..!why?don’t think we use this place again

A young lady called Faith was very good, she was very accommodating and great fun. Although the food was very nice Faith made the evening outstanding.

2nd time we have visited and both times Faith looked after us brilliantly well…we will be eating here regularly!

Cannot fault the service we received on our last visit. We were contemplating whether to travel further to a restaurant after our Auntie spontaneously visited and was staying the travelodge next door, but we decided to make it easier and came to the Skylark. It honestly felt like we were in a well estabished expensive restaurant with the service from Faith, she was a breathe of fresh air and we all agreed she gave us the best hospitality we've had in a long time. The steak was lovely for all three of us too, came out really fresh and hot and was very tasty. Brilliant visit!

Let me just say, we will not be returning again.service and attitude of the person who took our order was dreadful. From the of she was so negative, telling us they had no roast dinners no steak no kebab as they had been busy that is why the tables had not been cleared. Then the food we had was not the best .And to say we had booked a table for 2pm on a Sunday when a roast is what is needed a d they do not have any ,totally unbelievable and unacceptable .

Service was quick, food was excellent, Guinness was poured correctly, excellent presentation and ambience was great.

We were part of a largish booking (8 adults & 2 children) It took nearly 20 minutes for someone to come and take our drinks order, after taking the order it was dropped in that you were out of roast beef (at 1:30 pm on a Sunday!) When someone finally arrived to take our food order the waitress had no idea what was included on the children's roast dinner or even the adult roast dinner. 5 minutes later the waitress was back to say that there was no Gammon after 2 people had ordered it. When the food finally came only 9 of the 10 meals were delivered and the quality of the food was terrible - uncooked Peas, stuffing balls that were like little blocks of concrete and the worst roast potatoes i have ever tasted. We were given a discount on the food as a result of this, but we will not be back!

Curry was luke warm rice was same nam bread was cold and dry had a job to pull it apart let alone trying to chew it won't be going back and wouldn't recommend

Sat down after booking only to be told the roast was off the menu. The waitress said, its been busy as you can tell by all the tables not cleared, nice! Food we did have was mediocre to say the least. Won't be returning

Fantastic quick service, very friendly staff - had a great chat with Mollie, Emma and Sophie. Will be staying here for work for the next few months so will be very happy to continue to come here.

We had had a long day and just needed some nice food. Booking a time on-line was easy, turned up and the staff were very cheery and helpful. Drinks and meal were perfect and it didn't cost an arm and a leg either. Even thought the place was busy, it didn't feel crowded and we were not kept waiting at all and it wasn't too noisy (which is something we really don't like when we want to relax and eat!) It was just what we wanted at the time. Ideal.

Very good service and enjoyed my meal. Had the curry and a pint for £11.25 which is very good value. Some of the beers weren't available which was a bit disappointing so had to have a second choice.

WE ENJOYED A FANTASTIC MEAL AT THE SKYLARK. MY WIFE HAD STEAK & ALE PIE AND I HAD A MEDIUM-RARE SIRLOIN STEAK. IT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD! PLEASE DON'T TELL ANYONE, BUT WE ALSO HAD DESSERT WHICH WAS DELICIOUS TOO. WE SHALL BE RETURNING AGAIN SOON. EXCELLENT STAFF ATTENTION TOO.
