We were on the rooftop restaurant and ordered a medium rare steak which was overcooked. The service wasn't attentive as we asked for water on 3 occassions. For the starter I ordered scallops had no flavour. On a positive the restaurant was in a great location and nicely presented. I prefer Zuma or Dishoom Kensington.

Outstanding Review for Smiths of Smithfield We recently had the pleasure of DJing at Smiths of Smithfield, and we cannot speak highly enough of this incredible venue! From the moment we arrived, the level of professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail from Maria and her team on the top floor was nothing short of exceptional. The space itself is stunning, perfectly suited for creating an amazing atmosphere for any event. But what truly made the night unforgettable was the impeccable service from Maria and her team. They were attentive, accommodating, and went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly, allowing us to focus on what we do best – bringing the music to life! We are already counting down the days until we return for NYE. If the last event was anything to go by, it promises to be an incredible night in one of the best venues we’ve had the privilege of working in. Thank you again to Maria and everyone at Smiths of Smithfield for an outstanding experience!

My 17 (yes, seventeen) colleagues and I booked the Xmas menu. I was sick and unable to attend but Smiths insisted on charging my colleagues for my cover. As my dinner cost me £75 and I got to eat precisely none of it, I can only award one star, and that's only because I know you can get a nice view of St Paul's from the balcony. And there's no zero star option.

Really disappointed. Regretfully I had to cancel my booking due to an emergency. Aside from having to still pay the over priced set menu price of £75 , I requested my set meal to be donated . They were unable to help , ‘not in our policy’. In an age where there is food poverty why can my meal not be donated. Poor show from an apparently reputable establishment.

For the premium you are paying, it fell a little short. We turned up 9 minutes early for our booking and we're told we had to wait in bar until time of booking as they were soo busy. Once going upstairs they were only half full and stayed three quarters full the whole visit, so not sure why we had to wait. They had only half the menu available which was surprising and we ordered the special 36oz cotes de boeuf instead of what was not available. Half of it was amazing, the other half was tough and chewy, not what we expected for £140 of steak. Overall was nice, but the special was not soo special and disappointed that some key menu items that are staples of a steak restaurant were unavailable. Cocktails were nice.

Very average for the price. There were a series of slightly annoying things all round that weren't enough to complain about in themselves but added up to a sub-par experience, especially when you're paying £120 each for two courses and wine... The steak was delicious but the chips were just a little under-done. Small plates were tasty but so small they were quite difficult to share. The acoustic was noisy and I was straining to hear people next to me. When we got a second bottle of wine for the table, the waiter poured it into our half-full glasses of a different wine. If you come here dining on expenses and spending company money, it's probably fine, but coming as individuals we felt a bit fleeced.

The highlight has to be the service. Having had a fairly disappointing experience here (original review - below - was only 2**) the team at Smith's invited me back to give them a second chance. I was torn as I don't generally feel comfortable accepting complimentary meals and it makes leaving a properly disinterested review trickier. However I did accept and it was a quite different experience from my first visit. So here goes: for me there are two different reasons to go to restaurants. The first is to eat things that I couldn't or wouldn't eat at home. However I have my repertoire and I know my limits. There are things talented chefs and restaurant kitchens can do that most of us can't. Occasionally I'll eat something in a restaurant that makes me want to try to recreate it myself, or something like it. That's a definite win. The other reason I dine out is that sometimes it's just nice to be cooked for and looked after and be given something nice to eat while being able to give one's full attention to one's dining companion(s). I'd choose to eat at Smith's for the latter reason and it's a very good reason to eat here. The first time round, in the bar, the experienced was somewhat compromised by a very nice server who couldn't get the order right. This time we ate in No. 3, the rooftop restaurant. It manages to be both smart and understated. I was surprised that on a Friday night it wasn't busier. There were a few tables but it was far from full. The menu is varied and one could really push the boat out with a large steak or seafood platter. We decided to stick with scallops as a starter. They were perfectly seared and served on the shell with chicken butter, peas, girolles and lardo. It was lovely though the accompaniment didn't quite cut through. There could have been more mushroominess. I know, it's nitpicking. I have no doubt we chose well. For our main course my friend ordered fillet steak medium rare with triple cooked chips and beef fat bearnaise (good chips... very good chips) and I went with the monkfish with Café de Paris sauce and radicchio. Again they were both flawlessly executed. I tend to do something like monkfish with something with a little more acid (white wine, fresh chopped tomatoes, butter) that gives it something to push against but the cafe de paris worked as a sort of culinary hug. We found room to share a dark chocolate fondant, god knows where. The staff in No.3 had all of their colleague in the bar's charm but got the order right. We felt very well looked after. Was the food memorable? It was well judged, perfectly cooked and comforting and we had a lovely evening. The thing that was particularly memorable however was the cocktail I ordered; an Aztec, invented by one of the team working that night. I can't remember what was in it other than, I think, chocolate bitters and possibly vodka. I'd definitely go back for another one of those. +++++++ I didn’t have steak so I have no idea why people go here except it’s probably steak. Even so they couldn’t even get those quite right. One of my dining companions asked for rare and it wasn’t. The server was friendly but didn’t feel he needed to write the order down but ten had to come back twice to check he’d remembered it correctly. He hadn’t. He could just about remember three steaks and a beef brisket but the sides addled him and as for the drinks… we suggested he try again later with the drinks. Seriously though, why do some servers do that? It wasn’t busy. We had time. Is it just machismo or was he trying to inject a little excitement into a boring job? As for that beef brisket, I’d like to borrow our server’s powers of forgetting. It came with gravy, mustard and pickled cucumber. It could have used some carbs to ease the pain of being right back in the school dining room, staring at the remains of a cow that had been turned into an instrument of unkindness. This culinary low point cost £23. I’ve had happier moments in Greggs. Honestly I still don’t know why people eat here.

Overall really very disappointed. Service was extremely slow, food came out cold, they practically chased us out at 10:30pm on a Saturday night. And worst of all, we booked for 7:30pm and one of the steak sharing options was already not available - that's just not good enough on a Saturday night.

With the historic 140 year old Smithfield Market as its famous neighbour, this is the perfect setting for the any occasion whether you are thinking of a small or large, casual or grander gathering. The food was excellent, especially the starters. You could tell they source quality ingredients from curated suppliers. We were on a date, but there was a large group dining and a farewell at the same time, yet the layout of the space meant that we each had our own space and not get bothered by ambient noiseI The rooftop bar and restaurant had the most perfect views to St Pauls and the City. The set menu keeps things simple and there is something for everyone, without blowing the budget too

We met for drinks in the ground floor bar on a Friday lunchtime. It was a large industrial themed space. Usual cask and keg offerings. Id say in addition to us there were perhaps 6 other drinkers. That said the staff were really pleasant and volunteered to bring the drinks over. Then we took the dingy lift - think NCP car parks - to the No3 Rooftop Bar. Great area with lovely views over St Pauls. An outside terrace had plenty of chairs with blankets if you fancied that experience, which 3 or 4 people were dong whilst clutching a coffee i expect. In the No3 rooftop restaurant there were three tables occupied. No atmosphere to speak of. We decided to skips starters and two of us ordered the seafood platter. They didnt have it. Plan B was a starter of Mussels and Clams. They didnt have that either. In the end we had had brown and roe which was too fatty and the roe smothered in the cream. For main we had sirloin steak which was c 20% gristle but the parts that were actually meat were tasty and well seasoned. The chips were good. The staff were pleasant and very apologetic but overall it was an underwhelming experience - not least at the price point.

We had a stunning meal in the restaurant at Smiths of Smithfield this week. Service was excellent, the food and meat was amazing. We had a cocktail in the rooftop bar beforehand and they were expertly made. Highly recommend. The only small negative was that the nearest toilets on the ground floor weren't particularly well maintained and clean, they're in the busy ground floor bar. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor and rooftop bar on the 3rd.

This place is in an easy location, its got loads of space, outdoor seating, multiple floors, big range of drinks... it has the making to be a great place. I had a reservation... showed up 15mins early, was very quiet yet no one at the door to greet me or any staff member to be seen... so I went to the bar and ordered my drink as I waited for my other party to arrive. I even pointed to The Absolute Espresso Martini as I ordered and said can I get this one please. It's a twist on an Espresso Martini: Absolut Vanilia, Kahlua, espresso & gomme for £12... I watched as the gentleman proceeded to make me a regular espresso martini at the slowest possible pace.. by the time he had finished 15mins later as he kept stopping and starting to have a chat and a laugh with his colleague inbetween making me the wrong drink... anyways by the time he set it in front of me, my friend had arrived, I hadnt paid yet so asked her what she would like and add it on to my order. She said 'that looks good, i'll have the same please' ... we were met with a very unsubtle eye roll.. no ''sure'' or ''ok'' even... just an eye roll and a sigh.. I appreciate espresso martini takes some effort to make and it would have been easier to make both at the same time, however when I ordered mine I had no idea it would take so long to arrive that my friend would have shown up. I assumed I had time in 15mins to order and enjoy a drink before she arrived then we would get the next round together. Regardless, he then made her a regular espresso martini, put it down on the counter whilst ignoring our thank yous, grabbed the card machine and literally tossed it at us down the bar... it was so rude we were in shock so we laughed, how was this grown man having a tantrum with us for ordering drinks that he had taken such a long time to make because he was chatting with other staff in between... I paid for the drinks without mentioning that he had made me 2 regular espresso martinis yet still charged me for two special vanilla ones... his attitude was so offputting I wasn't about to engage further with an adult having a strop, id had a long day at work and wasn't coming here to deal with this nonsense, i just wanted a drink and to unwind... then we had to go look on every table until we found our reservation placard which was fine but just a bit thoughtless, they could come up with a better system but that is more personal preference than deliberately bad managment in fairness. We stayed for one more round.. it took another 20 mins to be served at the bar as by this time they were really busy and clearly dramatically understaffed.. at least this time the lady on the bar who served me did apologise for the wait and was very friendly and efficient, sorry I didnt catch her name because she was the complete opposite to the gentleman who had served us prior. She was really sweet. Due to the dissapointing start and the wait times between rounds we decided to go somewhere else. I can see we are not the only ones who have had issues with this place.. but the copy and paste ''send us an email sorry you were unhappy'' response just further cements my belief that they are very casual with this place as it will make money one way or another due to location. It could be a must-go, great place if it was staffed correctly, i felt really sorry for the bar staff when we left, there were huge groups of people ordering cocktails and only 3 people behind the very big bar.. it sets them up to fail. I also think staff should be customer service trained in a place like this, without it places like this will always be average at best... im sorry if the guy who served us was having a bad day but the attitude projected at us was so unnecessary and offputting.

This is a 3 storey pub with different pricing on every floor. Toilets are on the 1st floor, but it is accessible via lifts. We reserved for 20 people but was given a space for 10, despite having to pay £10/person deposit. So the entire time, half was standing, and we were all cooped up like sardines in a can on the corner spot they allocated. Sharing platter was a good choice for a group. the Korean chicken was more of a buffalo flavour but the ribs were good.

A good place to watch an Arsenal match and have some good pub food. The atmosphere in the bar for the game was lively. Reservations are available and recommended on the weekend, especially for match days. The Sunday roast was generous and tasty, available to order in both the restaurant and bar. There was an issue with our booking but the staff were really apologetic and accommodating, trying their best on a busy match afternoon to find us a suitable table.

Excellent experience, typical English pub with orders via app or at the counter. Fast service, helpful staff and food all normal. Convenient prices. I would go back!

Much better than it needs to be, given the location. Cool staff, edible food, good beer, pub atmosphere and plenty of seating. Not a destination I would travel for; but certainly somewhere I would go if I was thirsty with friends in KingsX.
