Slow service. King prawns on menu in prawn cocktail. They were just the tiny watery prawns. No mushrooms with steak. They said the delivery didn’t turn up. Sent Childs burger back as it had cheese which was told not to put on it. Came back with a new one which was raw! Will not return. They have a lot to learn!

Catered to our every request. Lovely staff. Average prices. £35/£40 per head for 3 courses and drinks.

We booked a big family get together 19+ people for Saturday 28th December 2024. The staff were absolutely fantastic polite friendly and accommodating Hats off the the kitchen staff as well. Food was spot on. The new owners should be proud of their staff who were working that night. Looking forward to going back x

Changed hands beeb several times hoping it will improve but no evertime they sat updating menu and they don't. Basic pub food. Booked xmas meal on boxing. Table we booked didn't because of function took priority. Then was told no turkey at 3pm. No gluten free option. So mum ended up having salad on boxing. Asked for sweet potato fries got chips . Food average very disappointed won't be going again.

Had a meal with friends here. The food was reasonable for pub grub and with a couple of pints was paid £35 each. The place is very large and it wasn’t very busy, but the service was good and friendly.

I've been to this venue a few times and this was the first visit since the new owners came in. It's largely the same inside, when I arrived there's wasn't anyone monitoring front of house but it wasn't a big problem. Service was slow throughout the whole meal, except at the end when the staff were reaching the end of their shift and were keen for us to move on (not that late). Our menu had a turkey Christmas meal on it, which two of us would have liked, but they'd run out and told us after we'd ordered so we had to quickly change our minds. The other mains were pleasant. We all had apple and cherry "crumble" for dessert. The topping of the tasty stewed fruit was broken biscuits and *not* crumble, actual biscuits, not even biscuit crumbs. Tasted nice enough but that is not what you put on an apple crumble

We had the set meals. Not bad. Food was good. Love to salt and pepper calamari.

An stunning venue with great food and personality servers (Roxanne was amazing!) who made us feel incredibly welcome and at home. Nothing was too much trouble. Also was great value for money. Would highly recommend.

What a find! Great food, great service, great value and an amazing building. Under new management and they have some great plans for 2025. Well worth a visit.

The service and food have improved under the new ownership. Unfortunately, no alcohol free Erdinger any more, which is a loss.

Nothing bad to say Casey was so accommodating at short notice and provided a side room area for 12 Adults and 4 young children the food was beautifully cooked and hot, the staff were all lovely, it was so good we have booked again for another birthday in a couple of weeks time a very well deserved 5* New management are moving in a very positive direction and have some exciting plans in the new year.

Myself and my sister were served by the lovely George and Grace who were both very friendly, helpful and efficient. A bit later on we were asked about coffees by a blonde manager with curly hair. She however was not in the same league as George & Grace and totally forgot our order. A very disappointing level of service - especially from a manager. She didn’t have the same friendly attitude either. The food was good , however there wasn’t any bbq sauce on the hunters chicken that we both ordered. Also the prawn cocktail had lot of prawns but very little sauce. You need to look after George & Grace as good staff are hard to come by.

Tonight was our first visit to The Star since being taken over. We know Pete from The Kings Arms, Bexleyheath, and have always known him to be an excellent Host, friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic about his vision, the Star being no exception. We knew his refit is pending, (Feb 25) so whilst the pub/restaurant is huge, and a stunning building, it still has the stamp of the previous owners. Pete’s vision will turn this place into a multi function venue, with space for events, weddings, private functions and family dining. We were met tonight by several bar staff and Manager Seb, who all made us very welcome. A special mention to Mariella, who was exceptionally friendly and helpful and George (aka Keith) who delivered an exceptional leaf embellished flat white, and was a great members the team, as well as a good laugh. The food was great, no complaints from us, and the house red is exceptionally good ! This place will go from strength to strength now it’s in the hands of a man with great Vision. Give it a try, you won’t be disappontted.

Went here for Sunday lunch reasonably priced, good portions and really efficient service. There are so many different areas to choose from, we had a private little corner overlooking the grounds. I managed to speak to the management who have just taken over, they have big plans ahead so this place only has an upwards trajectory, though some of the changes will take time, so will be worth seeing how the building and establishment progress. The location is great, ample free parking, amazing character to the building and nice greenery outside. The service was spot on, really fast even though it was busy, food is decent.

This place used to do OK food but not anymore. My partner and I came for lunch and ordered sausage & mash and Lasagne off the lunch menu. The portions were tiny (laughably small) and the quality was dreadful. The sausages were dry and hard in places which makes me think they were reheated in a microwave along with the mouthful of lasagne, which had hardly any meat and no Béchamel. The server however was lovely and the manager did a good job of explaining that the lunch menu was smaller than the normal one, which I kinda get but I went for a meal not an appetiser. I definitely suggest informing guests they’re ordering a kiddy portions! In future I’ll head on down to the Tiger‘s Head where the service and food are exceptional - always super friendly and always yummy. FYI - updating this as I just went to the Rose & Crown in Sevenoaks today which was incredible. In fact I’ve been a few times over last few months. GUESS WHAT they’re lunch specials aren’t smaller than their usual sized meals. I had a lasagne that was a normal portion. Go figure!? Also, I’d rather drive an extra 45mins than go to this place again! The Star at Sidcup Place is overpriced and bad quality - AVOID!

We tried for lunch and the food is a lot better since new management arrived. The sausage and mash was lovely, although the apple crumble seemed to be mainly oats on compote and not a lot of crumble. However we couldn't remove our coats the whole time bc it was very cold inside, and the service was slow meaning we were there almost 2 hours for a 2 course lunch. Had I not prompted the staff it could have been longer. I almost didn't write a review bc I know they're in the process of change, but it wasn't a good experience and I would have written a scathing review had it been anywhere else. Hopefully things improve with the renovation, and I'll try again in the new year.

Surprise Anniversary Party Oct 2024 We were fortunate enough to be able to celebrate my wife's parents 60th wedding anniversary at the star. From the moment we first spoke to the manager, Roxy, she could not possibly have been more helpful, accommodating and lovely to us. I cannot speak highly enough of Roxy and her team. The food provided was exceptional along with the service and care. Thanks to Roxy my wife's parents and guests had an amazing time and we really cannot thank them enough. Unfortunately at the end of the night one of the guests had a medical incident, a fall, which required the attendance of an ambulance. Roxy and her son not only took complete charge and organised everything, but helped the paramedics lift a very heavy man onto a stretcher. They even missed their transport home and had to make other arrangements but nothing was too much trouble. Not only a really lovely venue but superb customer care and top quality food and drink. Thank you for making the day so special

Tiny and old rock hard food. My pie was clearly old and on its last. Fish and chips so small it was ridiculous. Total rubbish

New ownership but sadly still a very disappointing place to go. Roast dinner was bland and cold (beef itself was decent). Server (who was very slow) gave incorrect information on meat content of the stuffing. Puddigns are super stingy and dry with almost nonsauce. Gave them a 2nd chance with a midweek lunch and for 15£ I was served a slither/kids portion of fish - comical portion. Pie and sausages had by other guests looked like theyd been sitting under a hot lamp for a long time. A real shame given how nice the actual building is.

Definitely would not recommend, went for a roast two weeks ago, the meat was tough, veg was over cooked. Didn’t eat it then when they cleared the table asked if everything was ok I told the lady the issues then she came over with the bill and made me pay for a meal that was so terrible and wasn’t eaten. No apology nothing taken off the bill. Would avoid! Bad meal and bad customer service! Think the serving staff could do with some training in customer service.

The star is set in lovely grounds its nice to have a walk before or after eating, and if the weather is nice have a drink outside. I have eaten here few times the food is pub grub standard,no wow factor the staff are friendly and service was good.price wise it about what you expect to pay .

Under new management and they will be doing some refurbishment soon, but will definitely go back there when it has been completed. Great place for couples and families and can’t wait to try out the food

So glad this place has been taken over, what a difference it has made, came for the roast and was not disappointed, the potatoes are best in the area, as is the meat. The staff are very friendly and attentive and never go above and beyond. Really hoping this standard continues as need a good quality place like this in the area.

Our first visit for a meal following the recent change of ownership. We were not disappointed. We went for Sunday lunch. The roast was generous with plenty of meat, lovely roast potatoes and lots of vegetables. The additional cauliflower cheese was delicious too! Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was relaxed , appealing to couples and families alike. Would recommend to family and friends.

DON'T GO! This place always had more potential and never explored to the full. It's had ups and downs. For the past 6 months or so with new management team it has shown signs of improvement. However recently it has been purchased by an independent group. No doubts that attracted lots of diferente customers, locals that perhaps like us, were hoping that this place finally got the right owners to explore the great building, location they have available. Last night it was caos and a very clear sign of lack of hospitality training and attitude from the team on duty. There seems have been a family that let their kids run riot and, unfortunately, due to noise affecting the atmosphere and disturbing other customers trying to have a quiet drink. Upon some customers asking the parents to have their children to be mindfull there were very loud the parents start shouting at this lady, escalating to tell her" f...off you c...! Several times. Many of the customers ask on the bar if they could intervene, the staff responded " this is now a family pub" including the manager backing the person that was shouting/ insulting the lady. Staffs attitude was; " if you don't like it, that's fine, we have many customers so don't need you! It really looked a farce from what's been advertised as to be a future boutique place for family's, locals to enjoy. What a shambles and a clear example of lack of passion for hospitality and customer service. Needless to say, we won't be returning( apparently we won't be missed) and neither be recommending to others.

We had our wedding celebration in 2015 we have been going here often. And now We celebrated our son 18th birthday in Star Sidcup Place. Excellent customer service. Lots of menu to choose from. Excellent food. Staffs helped us in every way even lent us some birthday decorations. Room function that we hired is just perfect. Staff allowed us to decorate the room in the way we want it. Parking are plenty and toilets are clean baby changing is available too. Disability-friendly. Sebastian, Roxy the Mgr’s are excellent. The is just right “STAR”

Came here for a Sunday roast as a party of 3. We all had the topside beef, and it did not disappoint. The service was quick and the staff were helpful and friendly. The food arrived quickly, and roast was super tasty and hot. The veg, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were all very nice, which complimented the beef perfectly. Definitely a gem in Sidcup :)

Sidcup place is a really nice pub. The food is nice and it's not cheap which is a real shame that when your food is brought to you you then need to get up and get your cutlery and sauces which should be brought to your table in my opinion. The staff were congregating on a table outside the bar and had to be told to serve as myself and someone else was waiting. Service really needs to be better. I went before this too and was outside, I ordered everything through the QR code so it was brought to the table and when it arrived was told to go in and get all the cutlery, napkins and sauces i had no idea where it all was. It's absolutely pointless and annoying to ask this of customers.

Had a lovely meal.very good portions service ok and we had a very nice waitress. And with a compare the meerkat app we got 25% off our bill. Will be going back

karaoke on friday night was amazing

We have rented a function room for our wedding celebration and it did not disappoint us! The atmosphere was amazing, staff were so friendly and helpful, food was great! Buffet is so generous! We had so many staff around to make sure all is going well. Really recommend!

Sidcup Star is very up market compared to the old brewers Faye

I requested a table outside of the big dining room. Nobody had read my request and sat me in the, large dining room, It was my birthday and as before, in came mum's with their noisey children running around, couldn't have a proper conversation. So although

We visited at 5pm on a Friday for drinks followed by dinner. The variety of drinks and a reasonably priced menu were on offer and service at the bar was good and the food was quite satisfactory. Unfortunately, the person being served before us at the bar was not wearing a shirt and this was very offputting, not least as he needed to address his B.O. The barnan served him nevertheless and it was clear there is no policy on topless men being served there or if there is it isn’t implemented. We should have left at that point but we had already ordered. Will not return though if it’s a warm day!

The Friday night karaoke was so much fun, we had such a great time! Chloe, Olivia, Alice, and Maz who all work there were such warm and fun people, highly recommend!

Went here for the karaoke night last night and had an absolute blast. Great venue with friendly and personable staff. Huge variety of drinks that were very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend for a great night out!

Could this be the best pub in Sidcup? Yes, it could; but sadly, it really isn't. We're sorely lacking for pubs with gardens in this bit of Sidcup. The star is perfectly set in the middle of the lovely greenery of Sidcup Place. It's a lovely old building as well- former manor house that should make a lovely scenic backdrop for a pint and a burger. The food in the past has been ok- I've had a half decent pub burger here although that was a few years back. On a subsequent visit food wasn't so good. In spite of all the potential it's pretty lacklustre. Every time I go for a drink I feel like I've accidentally walked into a restaurant rather than a pub. The bar is dirty, service is slow and there always seems to be something unavailable. Last time I was in all three ale taps were out. The outdoor seating area is ok but doesn't quite live up to its potential, a bunch of randomly scattered tables on the paved area and in a closed off section of the car park. It's frustrating; I've visited lots of times over the years and I always feel like it could be both a decent pub and a decent restaurant, it somehow manages to be below par at both. In short, this could (should) be a real gem, but it really needs a good polish first.

This is our go to place if we are in the area. Have never been let down by food or service

Everyone commented on how lovey and generous the food was, especially the roast. Also, the atmosphere of the venue was very chilled and we were fortunate enough to have beautiful weather to sit outside with the guests. Looking forward to our next event!

Lovely garden pub with ample free parking. There’s a lovely green which you can enjoy in the summer. The food was pretty average but fairly priced but the service and atmosphere were lovely.

Went for a couple drinks as sun was out we sat outside well what a mess tables needed clearing, pigeons eating what was left on the tables, staff came out to deliver drinks and food but not one of them took any dirty glasses or cleared plates, such a mess and shambles. Management needs to address this ASAP

We were welcomed promptly and shown to a very nice table in centre of restaurant, so plenty of room. We we offered menus. Were a little disappointed that there was no "specials" menu available on day of visit when normally there is. While we waited for our meals to be cooked the waitress bought our drinks. Well cooked food arrived, pleasantly presented. Unfortunately, one of our party had a steak which was full of gristle. Maybe the supplier of steaks needs to be spoken to. Otherwise main meals very good. Nice selection of desserts. Very enjoyable visit.

Requested to reserve a table in the bar area, this was not done and others that had requested tables had there’s reserved! Not the first time that’s happened, food orders was a shambles due to things on the online ordering system was available and shouldn’t have been! Coffees alway luke warm never hot! Overall not happy, heard that a publican in Bexleyheath is taking it over later this year, good as hopefully they will be better.

Both Olivia and carol gave excellent customer service whilst having a family meal. They were attentive without being too imposing . The meal and food was lovely . We had drinks afterwards and both Paige and Taylor were fantastic . Def recommend will be visiting again

this is a historic building and its a great pity it lacks good service and cleanliness. The outside area is dirty with rubbish broken umbrella some with no stands. A spring clean inside is needed and a paint overhaul. The menu is not good. No option of biscuits or cakes with coffee or tea. The Chef when we saw him looks grubby .

Food was disappointing, ordered the kofta started cz i wanted a meaty snack and it was processed frozen food instead with tasteless mint sauce… it really is disappointing because its not hard to make them fresh with mince meat, it doesn’t make sense.. the till system is weird as well, there’s only one till and 1 person processing orders as well as making drinks

Booked for Father’s Day. Restaurant failed to deduct deposit paid from final bill. On phoning following day, spoke to manager (?) who was offhand which was surprising given that it was their error. Didn’t refund to preferred card and denied this was requested by me following my feedback to head office. No apology given at any point for the inconvenience. Would be reluctant to return due to this disappointing customer experience but did find all other staff encountered at the restaurant very nice.

we were going to eat but when we got there the chef if that what he was look like he had not washed we had to wait for our drinks becaues the barman was on the phone the place was dark and drity shame because it a lovey place the menu has not change in years

First time of visiting this establishment. Very impressed with the location, the food and the service was absolutely great. George our waiter was on ball, very attentive and happy to meet and manage my sometimes odd dietry requirements.

Had a really good time here for a relations 50th birthday. Staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The menu is very varied and also tastey. Husband had hunters chicken and I had lasagne. Both very good. A friend had steak which was cooked exactly as she had asked. I live locally and used to visit this venue regularly. However the standard dropped drastically in all areas of hospitality here and we stopped attending for a while. After now 3 return visits I will make it a regular and will recommend to anybody

We were a group of 20, Allyce-mae, Taylor and Becca looked after us really well. The only downside was the delay in taking our initial orders.

The star at sidcup place was lovely, the food was great and the service was fab. There were a few points to touch on, the coleslaw on the side of the burger was minimal, and when it was pointed out to the waitress, she made an excuse that it was served up the night before and that's just how it was done, rather than make excuses I felt it should have just been replaced with an apology on behalf of the kitchen. Other than this the waitress was so helpful patient and understanding of our group including children who were getting restless after a while. Everyone else food was perfect and they couldn't do enough for us. The ambience of the restaurant was lovely too. Wide variety of food choices overall very satisfied and would come back again

Bar service far too slow, table service for the food very good however. Roast Beef Good...Roast Potatoes mushy....previously frozen?

Awful. Booked a table online. Completely ignored on arrival when we waited by the Please Wait Here desk. Stood for about 5 minutes to wait to be seated. Still Ignored by several staff a few feet away who looked over at us several times but never acknowledged us or apologised for delay or came over. Eventually found a table ourselves outside the restaurant. Went back in a few times to say we’re here but still ignored. Ordered drinks via the barcode on table. Took 40 mins to arrive. Had to go inside the restaurant to ask for them. Waited 2 hours for food after asking several times when it was coming. Staff were completely disinterested except one young lad who was bringing the food out. He kindly took our table number to check for us and food arrived shortly afterwards. Overheard other people coming out for a cigarette - complaining about waiting so long for Food and drink orders. Should have checked the online reviews about the diabolical wait times. Staff don’t care. Wait times is too long. Food was decent when it eventually arrived. What a shame!
