Star Fish Bar in North Somerset

Really impressed with the service and professionalism but the food wasn’t great. The fish was just ok but the chips were absolutely awful. Undercooked and by the time I got home (5 mins) they were a congealed mass in the bag. An expensive and disappointing meal.

Local chippy that serves a large range of dishes including standard chip shop meals, kebabs etc. Serve very good from a group of younger friendly efficient staff. We collected our meals and the wait was only 10 mns for fresh fish and chips. Lovely food well cooked and good sized portions. The only reason they were not 5 star is the price. I found them quite a lot more expensive than my usual chip shop.

Check Ur order before leaving. On two occasions iv gone home with something missing. First time I was like fine people make mistakes. Today iv tried calling up but lines where busy. The young lads should pay more attention as this seems to happen when the youngest are left to it. However the food is nice.

Awful no salt and vinegar on chips and cheese altho. Asked cold chips at bottom and couple of hot chips on top with cold not melted cheese on top to chips really dry and stale tasting Won’t be using again.

Normally excellent large cod. Tonight was a disappointment. I could see 3 large cod with 3 smaller pieces. I got the 3 smaller pieces and was handed it saying 3 large cod and chips. Smallest fish I’ve had from there. Disappointing.

Good service and vast menu. Not to pricey and plenty of options for the hungry person. Asked for small chips and walked away with a massive and mean massive portion of chips.... Would be scared to ask for large chips as not sure I could carry them all home .

We have frequented this fish bar , always rated it 5 star, not tonite , the fish was so thin no layers!! Very disappointed, I would rather pay more, and have a decent piece of fish. We will give them one more chance and see how it goes.

Used to be very good kebabs. Now they pull it out of the pot after God knows how many days half heat it up and don't even put it in the pitta properly anymore. Very good untill the new bloke started a few months ago. Gutted really as I really enjoyed their kebabs and their lamb meat is amazing but just gone downhill so much

Some of the best chips in Weston with huge portions. The "kebab in a bun" is stunning. And the fish is top drawer.

Delicious, chips are always great, sausage and fish amazing. Kebab is outstanding. Oh, and the staff are lovely and always smiling. Highly recommend

I had cod and chips which were very nice.

Used to go to anther chip shop but t heir quality dropped whilst their prices rose. Tried the Star and will never change. Menu is full and varied, Quality is first class and the staff are very friendly. Most things are cooked to order. I ordered Chips (small which actually does two of adequately, A piece of Haddock and a piece of plaice. No word of a lie the plaice hardly fitted on the dinner plate it was so large. Price was £7.90 for the Plaice, £7.90 for the Haddock and £2.80 for the chips. Total cost £18.60. What exceptional Value. Do not judge others until you have tried the Star

Ordered large chips waited over 20 minutes and to be honest I was dissatisfied with the portion size especially after paying £4.30. There were some large orders before mine and in fairness I don't think they would have minded if I had been served my simple order of chips first. I must add you would have thought they would be making enough chips to keep the servers topped up as you could see they were frustrated as well.

This chip shop was one of the best in wsm but on last visit the chips have been almost inedible tasted really old ! Like they’d been re dipped a couple of times hence we will not be going there again such a waste of money

Excellent fish and chips. Senior’s is still a good sized portion. Freshly cooked while you wait but not long. Pull in parking for 4 cars at the front.

Food is lovely and fresh, large variety, portions are really generous. Good value for money, highly recommended.

Everytime I send my son here you can guarantee at least 1 item is missing from the order, this time there was a battered bars mar instead of a large sausage n batter, never a problem when my husband goes, must just like ripping kids off.

Expensive ..£22 for mini fish chips n peas

Popped into this Fish and Chip shop for some take away suppers. I was so very glad that we did. Our meals were absolutely perfectly cooked and totally delicious and I assure you - I am someone who can appreciate their cod, chips and mushy peas! The staff were friendly and efficient, the prices were fair, the premises were clean and tidy, and joy of joys 5 stars in the food hygiene ratings. Talk about a great find! We were all more than happy and will certainly be buying suppers from here again. Strongly recommend this super place.

Food has seriously gone down hill here it used to be lovely we were regular customers but in recent months prices have shot up and quality of food has gone major down hill! It's like they don't care any more food is thrown together been undercooked/raw

Nicely cooked to order chips just right. Price no dearer than other chip shops. Fish was lovely and moist when cooked. Yummy

Food was awfull when we got home it was all wrong after they got it wrong once and had to do some of the order again it was a lot of money for it not to be edible their was cheese on stuff that we didn’t ask for cheese as can’t eat cheese no salt n vinegar when we asked for it a total waste of money

For the 3rd time they have given us an incorrect order! We have ordered cheese and onion pasty on each occasion and have not received one yet! We will not be returning! The chips are poor quality too.

Very busy on a Fri evening, fairly quick service. Reasonable prices, not the best fish and chips in weston but was on the way home for me. For convenience if close but much better options a short drive away.

One of the best chip shops in town. Food is by and large excellent. Just one time my partner’s chicken was dry, maybe it had been in the heated cabinet a little too long! Portion size is big especially the chips. Doner kebab is a meal on its own, no chips required. I ate the kebab and happy seagulls ate the chips!!

Meal fine, fish & chips. Chip portion rather small. Meal on the cold side, now only just being served in box & not wrapped. I only live around the corner but cold weather effected temperature of my meal. They have served up better meals 😥 The above post was my previous experience. Thought I'd give it another go as Star chip shop is my local. What a turn around. Meal still nice & hot when I got home, very tasty. Chips have improved, more chunky less scraps. Let's hope it's not a one off 😊

As chippies go, one of the best in Weston. Huge portions of chips, one will easily do for 2 people. Large fish and lovely crispy batter, mushy peas are just mushy peas, very nice. Had curry sauce ones, not to my liking. Quick service, hot and fresh. Excellent

First time using this chippy, "well well well" was the best cod n chips ive had in years. Came just in a box and not wrapped but still hot when I got home 10mins later, the cod batter lovely and crispy till the last bite, chips were hot and curry sauce was "well" curry sauce, I'll definitely be back to this chippy. 5 stars for the Star Fish Bar.

Brilliant fish & chips, everything done for safety issues

We arrived Thursday evening to buy fish and chips for four people. There were two other customers in front of us, who were asked to wait for their food to be cooked. Within only two or three minutes, our order was ready and packed to go. It seemed strange at the time as two other customers had placed their orders before us. It soon became clear when we got home though, as the two large chip portions contained very stale, re-heated chips. As most of them had to be thrown away, we were left with a meal of just fish! Also, the cheese and onion pasty had solidified into rock around the edges so only the filling could be eaten!

Don't do take away very often, when we do it's here. Good food and the best service.

Meat and chips were nice although not many chips. Bought meat and chips for kids and they never eat all of their portion but they did today so either a sign that they enjoyed it or not a big portion. Could be both: :)

I dont know what all the bad reviews are about because personally ive never had it so good! FLUFFY cod, crispy batter and perfect chips! Come here if you want a great cod and chips. The kebab looked beautiful too. Bit of a wait despite being only me and some labourer in there but it was worth it. Ill be back!

Perfect Food - Easily one of the best in Weston!

Decent prices, lovely food with some generous portion sizes, what more could you ask for.

The Donner kebabs were very tasty, however the salad was mostly sliced cabbage, only 1 slice tomato, 2 pieces cucumber hence only 4 star 🌟

Does anyone who works at the Star care about the customers, poor service, overpriced and food you can't eat. Working in the area had pie and chips, pie soggy and not cooked chips undercooked and greasy in the bin. Maybe a one off so called in again yesterday battered sausage and small chips £4.10. Consistent give them that, soggy and greasy again, had your chance, won't be eating anything from the star again.

We visited Weston-super-mare in the late afternoon and decided to stay a bit longer to enjoy the evening sunshine and great views over the beach. There were more convenient fish and chip takeaways but the reviews persuaded us to seek this place out. It was 7 mins drive from the promenade but we’ll worth it and we arrived just as it opened at 5pm. The staff were efficient in processing the order and had good Covid measures. The menu was extensive but we had decided on fish and chips and it was a good choice. We returned to the promenade and sat to enjoy our early dinner. The fish was really excellent; the chips were ok but not the best we’ve had; the inclusion of a piece of lemon was welcome too. The portion size was generous so too much for us but probably about right for most adults. We’ll worth searching out if you’re in the area.
