Me and my partner was in London for new years Eve, on New Year’s Day while out exploring we came across this place, and oh my it was absolutely beautiful, I love a nice spicy madras and this was one of my best so far. Very helpful, Fanatic food, great portions and lovely staff. Especially the manager Mr may who even gave us a free can of coke each to walk back to our hotel with. It took more than 40 minutes for the food to come out. Menus that were said to be coming soon but never came out... Because of the musical, I ordered food 2 hours in advance and tried to eat leisurely... I like Indian food, so I've eaten it in many countries and the taste is just average. Suddenly, the credit card machine broke down and told us, as travelers, to withdraw money from a nearby machine... I only choose places that accept card payments... embarrassment… In the end, I paid for this and that and went to see the musical just 10 minutes ago. I liked their laid-back attitude, but not for me.

This place does not accommodate large parties well. We were a party of seven and I felt squished. The food was good for the prices. Highly recommend the masala and naan. However, they tried telling us to pay in cash and that their credit card machine didn’t work. In the end, after a little insistence from a member of our party, they took out the credit card/tap machine and we were able to pay.

Been using the Strand Tandoori for many years, the food has always been very good but, the service can be questionable. We booked a table for three at 5 o'clock. Turned up about 15 mins early, told them we had booked but got put in the corner on an unmade up table as all the other tables were booked - the restaurant was at this time empty! Got our poppadoms but had to ask for plates. As we started our main course we were informed that the card machine was not working (had seen this on other reviews - have Visa)Mastercard cut them off?). We had no cash but they agreed we could do a bank transfer which I did and showed the waiter confirmation. As we left the waiter came outside to say the payment had not gone through. Had to go back inside and show the confirmation again! Mens toilets are downstairs, smelt of urine and the ceiling looks to be falling in - its been like this for years. So, despite the food being good, never again. Please note 10 % service charge is automatically added to the bill.

Nice biryanis and sag curry. Vegetables curry was tasty but veg seemed like it came out of a can. Decent though but only took cash.

Brilliant place, yes not glamourous from the looks and very tiny. If you manage to get over this they serve brilliant authentic indian food at very good prices. Naan bread is a dream. I'm also a regular customer on london visits for over 25 years really happy they are still there keep going! Londons best kept secret!

Worst experience ever! Booked a table for a big group 2 weeks beforehand, but when wer arrived they didn’t have enough seats. When we explained the situation, we were just yelled at and told to „sit down“. A part of our group had to leave and eat somewhere else.

The waiters were rude, they threw a tissue in my face instead of putting it politely on the table, kept talking to each other when I ordered. Very unprofessional. Food tastes bad.

We came here on a Friday night with a booking for 15. On entering people were being encouraged to leave to make room four our table which was unfair on them particularly as the whole of upstairs was empty as far as I could tell. The service was slow and strange we all had to order is sequence of the courses we had. The white wine was not cold. The toilets for men are down a perilous flight of stairs and there was no easy access toilets and they lacked cleanliness. When food was being served it felt like it was being thrown on the table. All that though was nearly saved by the quality, quantity and presentation of the food. I had the duck tikka to start with, which. Was excellent I was very jealous of one of my friends prawn puri which looked superb. The spicy dip with the poppadoms could have been a dish in its own right. For my main course I had a prawn rezala and I cannot recommend it enough, it had spice, sweetness and when accompanied by the sag aloo a real balance in the mouth. Finally the garlic naans are so fresh and fragrant. Go for the food if you can stomach all the other bits that go with it.

Sorry to disappoint everyone but it’s not Indian restaurant neither it serves Indian food. Was definitely very disappointed by the food. It’s a Bangladeshi restaurant but even for Bengali food it disappointed me on a different level. Would rather wait in the queue of Dhishoom for half n hour but will never try this for sure.

This is a small curry House in the West End of London, it is in a side street of the Strand close to the Savoy Hotel. On entering the restaurant, the first impressions are that it is very small and dated. The staff do make a fuss of you which is good. The meal itself is distinctly average with a high price tag. The flavour combinations are less than inspiring and need to be worked on. I wouldn’t say it is terrible but not the best. I suppose you are in the heart of the West End of London and have to tolerate the deficiencies.

I have been coming to this quaint Indian restaurant for 25 years. I find the food to be tasty and well prepared, and I enjoy Mr May’s suggestions and willingness to serve. It is a little crowded inside, but that is a small inconvenience when you weigh that against the smiles and service over such a long time. Thank you, Mr. May!

Food was bland and greasy. Staff were not very polite. When it came to paying, they tried to get me to pay in cash saying their card machine was broken. This was untrue as I had seen others paying by card. I insisted on paying by card and their card machine worked fine.

Food here is very nice, tasty, flavoursome and reasonably priced. HOWEVER! The service is not great. Its a very small restaurant so people are packed in quite tight. Its very disorganised and waiters are so busy they don't actually pay attention to what you are ordering. They come across like 'just hurry up and order something'. The waiter just handed us our plates instead of putting them in front of us. We asked for 3 glasses of water and got 1 and they missed one of the rice orders. This was soon corrected but there was no service to it, just shoved onto the corner of the table. Good service goes a long way in getting customers to come back, its not just all about the food. Therefore I won't be going back and would not recommend it to friends and family. More attention to detail is required at this restaurant.

Booked a table for two and got shoved at the end with a tiny amount of space, sandwiched in between another table of people and a metal unit, didn’t stay to eat, see photos… all tables dressed nice, mine cobbled together with everything just thrown down!

Terrible restaurant! Even tho we booked well in advance we were rushed off to an attic room, that was freezing and incredibly empty and neglected. Downstairs there were people, decoration, proper atmosphere, but for some reason even with reservation we couldn't get in there and wished afterwards to just have left when that happened. The waiter we got was so mean, no greeting, no manners, simply throwing cutlery, slamming the door, absolutely no etiquette there. He barely talked to us and started being friendly when we had to pay and tip - before that, frowning, grumpy, disrespectful. The food was okay, acceptable, but not great at all, so no saving grace there. Even when we asked for a jug of water, we were shouted at that they have none and were not offered an alternative, we had to ask again and try hard to get the waiter's attention if we needed anything. Even in the beginning when we had to ask a few times to see a wine list and then I've never seen anyone pour wine the way this guy did in any restaurant - you don't know if you should laugh or cry. The toilets were dirty and the whole place is better to be avoided, especially if they start taking you upstairs.

Mr May was very nice, food was delicious!! We can only recommend it! Happy to come back :)

Des plats excellents, copieux, servis rapidement et bien chaud. Parfait de ce côté là. En revanche, la musique indienne sortant du téléphone juste derrière moi était beaucoup trop forte... Le service quant à lui était franchement mauvais, dans le sens où les deux vieux messieurs qui servaient avaient tendance à débarrasser le moindre récipient vide sur la table... Cela a fini par nous donner l'impression qu'ils voulaient nous mettre dehors ! Les autres clients qui quittaient le restaurant n'avaient même pas passé la porte que leur table était déjà redressée ! Ce service expéditif nous a gâché en partie le repas.

An excellent meal with very good quality food in a cosy environment. Each dish was carefully and individually prepared with great flavours and as a sign of the kitchen's skill and attention all the breads were freshly made. Remarkable value in central London.

Strand Tandoori offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere with authentic Indian cuisine. When I visited for dinner, I was impressed by the cozy ambiance, which felt both intimate and vibrant. The staff were attentive and friendly, making sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal.

My 2nd visit to Strand Tandoori this evening and the food was excellent. Great flavours and good size portions. Welcoming service given by My May. Will certainly come back again.

Great friendly service and lovely food

Very Disgusting. I visited Strand Tandoori on a Sunday afternoon, expecting a pleasant meal with a decent view. Before ordering, I decided to check the reviews online, and I must say, they weren’t encouraging. Google reviews were mediocre, and reviews from Indian customers were even worse. Based on this, I chose not to order. That’s when the waiter informed me that they charge for the table, which I found quite odd. I politely asked him to show me where this policy was stated on the menu, but instead of providing any explanation, the situation took a turn. As I was leaving, the waiter actually swore at me, which was completely unacceptable. For anyone looking for authentic Indian cuisine, I wouldn't recommend this place. It’s an Indian restaurant run by Bangladeshi owners, and it’s clear that the experience doesn’t live up to expectations. Save yourself the trouble and find somewhere else for a proper meal.

Mr. May was great. Food was fantastic and was very accommodating to dietary restrictions.

Last night the delivery guy rang me 4 times, even from my street at one point, but he hardly spoke any English and after 15 minutes of watching him drive in circles on the map, my food never arrived! Worse still, the app said it had been delivered! I rang the restaurant who were no help and took no responsibility, so last night I went to bed hungry, furious and £28 out of pocket! I sent two complaints to Just Eat, but so far no explanation, apology or refund - why am I not surprised…?

Food was average. Service was horrible, the staff made my mother very uncomfortable. It was very congested place, even though we were the only guests. The waiter kept asking my mother to move her chair forward even though there was no more space left. The two waiters present, kept talking to each other from the one end to the other end of our table. They were standing there the entire time, making us conscious. Very unprofessional behaviour, wouldn’t recommend especially for the price.

Amazing food, quick service and the general feel/atmosphere was homely and cosy. We were served by Mr May who was friendly, humorous and quick with service! Coming back!

One of the best meals we have had in London. Mr. May greeted us and took the time to find out what we liked to eat. From there he created a perfect meal for m husband and I to enjoy. I highly recommend everyone to try this restaurant.

Mr. May is the best server!! We walked in with a group of 13 and he was so accommodating, friendly, and happy to assist us. He made excellent recommendations, was very attentive, and the food was excellent! I cannot recommend that restaurant enough and definitely try to see Mr. May if you can!

Worse India, we ever had, won't ever be going back. Wrong orders brought to the table, we were told what we got was what we ordered. Toilets were like a padding Pool.

If you are looking for a classic excursion into Indian cuisine in central london— look no further. We’ve had a lot of curry’s in our lives and it was easily one of the tops. We had: -poppadoms -chicken jalfrezi -lamb bhuna -onion bhadjis -Sag paneer and - lamb korma Mr May was also very attentive and an excellent server! Highly highly recommend!

We dined in Strand Tandoori before a west end show. Delicious, authentic food, welcoming proprietor Mr May. It's a snug little place but we didn't have to wait for a table. We enjoyed our visit very much!

The Aloo Gabi was amazing!🤩 My only complaint was that the samosas and dish sizes were a little on the small side, or I’m on the bigger side 🤪. Rice is not included with entree and Naan is only on piece. Nevertheless, we were all but licking the plates clean.

Was hungry and stumbled in here a bit randomly. Terrific service, especially by Mr. May. We are very fond of Indian food and buy it often. This is one of the best we have tasted. The Naan breads in particular were amazing. We bought, among other things, Butter chicken and Tandoori chicken. Highly recommended.

I wish the delivery guy would check his route before leaving the restaurant, or ring me if he’s lost! And the chicken was really tough in places, which does spoil the enjoyment L.
