Sun Ya in Greenwich

Ordered what I thought was enough food for 3 people - portion sizes were tiny, food was very bland and mainly veg with little meat. One dish was literally inedible as it stank so badly it made me gag but was simultaneously completely flavourless, not sure how they did it tbh Saw it was always pretty busy and now I am left wondering why?

La calidad de la comida no justifica el precio muy mal estándar sentí que estabas apresurado y comiendo en un café en lugar de un restaurante de entremeses mixtos mínimo £ 10 por persona, se obtienen cuatro artículos cada uno por eso. porciones muy pequeñas de pato aromático crujiente vienen más empapado de piel y grasa que el pato y no triturado. Y a £ 14 el trimestre, yo esperaría mejor calidad Muy decepcionado no volveré y me gustaría añadir que no fue porque estaban ocupados. El restaurante estaba bastante vacío en ese momento.

Delicious food and lovely, friendly staff.

Not very busy so atmosphere was slightly stale but staff was friendly and food was scrumpy though which made up for it!

Be aware opens at 3pm and not 2pm per the website.

Very disappointing with this restaurant Yesterday 4th August 2024 I bought chicken fried rice and there were only 5 strips in the top. No chicken inside. I don't recommend it

The food was horrible the fried squid was like rubber, no flavour extremely chewy egg fried rice was about as bland as anything I've ever tasted such dry chicken balls with no flavour probably some of the worst food I've had in as long as I can remember. Nothing was fresh. it feels like week old food

Best Chinese in the Blackheath/Greenwich area. Try the huge crispy spring roll - have been eating them since 1995 and taste just the same as they always did

Very nice chinese food. Good, friendly and helpful customer service. Seating area abit small, cramped and loud. Very welcoming.

We were driving by, I saw “Sun Ya” and we went back to have dinner there. It was very good! And that Philipino or maybe Thai server was very very nice! She is a great plus to this restaurant, she is kind and friendly! A very good restaurant in East London. After many reviews (good and bad) we tried and liked. You enter the restaurant through the side, and you can see that they have a take away area which is great for those days you want to treat yourself but want to stay home to watch a good movie. I have left the updated menu on the last photo. The only thing I would say that to be in East London, prices go a bit up and compare almost to what you’d pay in zone 1 which is quite crazy. From £8-15 for a dish. In china town you find dishes for £6-£6.90. We got: Prawn(shrimp) Chow Mein Ku Pong Chilli Beef Egg fried rice (delicious)

I live nearby and tried this restaurant for the first time. In overall my experience was OK. Food is authentic and made with fresh and special ingredients. The Jasmine Tea is an amazing deal, you get a proper quality fresh tea for an excellent price. There is a little bit communication issue with the waiter lady but she is apologetic. The portion sizes and prices are satisfying. Decoration and the environment are okay, could be improved. I want to try some other dishes next time.

The time I went (7pm) the restaurant was quite lively. Lots of chatter, a lovely atmosphere. The drinks came quickly and the food came just as fast. It was delicious and well worth the money I spent.

Came across this restaurant while going home from Woolwich. Decided to order some takeout. The service was good. The attendant was chatty and helpful. Ordered special fried rice with prawns in sweet and sour sauce. But my partner’s order was mixed up somehow (might have been our fault). The food was okay. The sauce had this strong smell of something. I bet the culprit is one of the following listed on their allergy notice (sulphur dioxide, sulphites & lupins). The rice was good. The chicken was a bit too oily. The meal also came with prawn crackers and fortune cookies of course. Might go again just for the rice.

Staff were great and food did not taste salty.

First time coming here and it was really tasty, I wish I took more pics of the food but I was too hungry. The restaurant and atmosphere is lovely, good customer and the food was really delicious, I’ll be back! I absolutely loved these capital ribs I got, soo juicy and sweet!

They flat out refuse to take card if the order comes to less than £10, which is both bad practice and inconvenient in this day and age. I’ve been ordering from this place for 35 years. But unlike before, the new people there don’t care for their customers whatsoever.

We stumble upon this resto after travelling from Gatwick Airport. We were craving for Chinese food and it did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was exceptionally good and reasonably priced.

We booked a table a week in advance and upon arrival to the empty restaurant, the staff struggled to and refused to sit us saying the only way we can sit down is if we leave in an hour for their next booking.

Came here for a birthday, staff did everything they could for our party. Great food excellent service and the bill wasn't a shock. Just a shame they don't deliver anywhere 😞

Food had a weird taste and has gone downhill since other visits, really disappointed as came from overseas and this used to he the go to Chinese for the area

Fully reopened after lockdown when only the take-away was serving, Sun Ya is better than ever. A younger generation are now in charge of this Family restaurant and (no disrespect to the elders) both food and customer care are excellent. Great value for food and wine too. A great place for both last minute meals for the two of us and for three-generation family parties. We’re lucky to have it as our local.

Was family run and as it's air conditioned, it was a haven in summer. The menu changes yearly but sad to say that it has gone downhill over the past few years. My kung po chicken was battered generic sweet/sour prep with a sauce and the four ribs as a starter were poor with a gelatinous bbq sauce. After coming here for 20 odd years I have made my last visit. Oh and don't use the menu on the website, it's out of date.

Amazong Chinese Food and exceptional service.

Gone completely down hill since new owners took over I asked them when did it change hands and told bare faced lie that it hadn’t changed hands I said but you have completely new staff , liars and food terrible avoid.

Location is unique due to easy local conveyance availability in all directions. Full glass window allows you to sit quietly and enjoy moving traffic in nicely gardened busy square. Food is good and cordial and energetic staff helps you choose from menu to suit your tastes. Service is fast.and variety of choice to siute your appetite. Do visit once and try, i am sure you will visit again and again.

Not sure what has happened to this place but the food has declined. Nowhere near as good as it once was. No flavour and full of grease. Before it was full of flavour and had next to no grease. I am so disappointed that I will now need to seek out a new Chinese takeaway. When I asked if the shop was under new management I was told no, but clearly it is. If felt different as soon as I stepped in. The place had a different energy.

So bad I’ve been coming here 20 years and now it’s changed over owners they denied this when asked but I know that it’s not the same not only it’s not the same people the food so sooo bad I’ve never tasted anything like it greasy undercooked the food was smelly and not appealing at all. My kids love Chinese and they pretty much eat any Chinese but this one this time they couldn’t eat it it was so bad they need to be honest if they have changed owners as it allows customers to make there own decisions to keep coming I would personally avoid it £50 wasted twice and I’ll never eat here again sad as it was the best Chinese before

The best Chinese take away in the area hands down. It is always busy at the weekend. The food is consistently good, with generous meat and prawns when ordered. They also have a restaurant with very good service from the helpful staff. Everything is recommended. My favourite dishes are..... All of it.

Awful! Food bland, absolutely no taste. We ordered various dishes. Chicken in satay sauce; watery with absolutely no hint of a satay sauce...salt and pepper squid; soft and chewy. Singapore vermicelli; again no taste or substance. Really don't waste your money!

Used to be very decent Chinese. Been regulars since 2009/2010. Since changed hands the food went WAY DOWN, unfortunately. Tastes of nothing/very bland. No response to our feedback sent… We get our Chinese elsewhere now.

Its a decent Chinese and now they have a new menu

This place has done downhill badly. Ordered beef in black bean and it had almost no black bean sauce whatsoever. Just tasted warm, no flavour whatsoever. Salt and pepper squid equally disappointing

Not been here for a while, so was pleased to see they're taking a leaf out of the East London playbook and offering a lunchtime menu. They've put a lot of thought into this, and for 'round here it's nice to see a modern offering among the endless sandwich variants. Now the Rainbowl sitting on my cushion is pretty much straight out of the bag - the scallops and Thai lime sauce could keep you going for a week, they're that good. Salad is fresh and well balanced, not too much over-stuffing to pad out the bowl. For the ten odd minutes it takes to grill the salmon, it's worth the wait to take this one home.

Sadly the one star is for the staff as they were pleasant and helpful. On my hunt to find a Good valued tasty Local Chinese..... The food and the value gets zero stars. I went here for the first time yesterday. Off of the back of other reviewers. I don't know what the taste is that people enjoy from here. All the food we had "take away" was totally bland, 5 dishes between us and not a single one had any type of flavour. Tasteless. The portion sizes were terrible for the price. If the food had tasted better it may have been worth it but this was not one of them. We can get portions twice the size of every dish, full of flavour and cheaper than here elsewhere (search my Chinese takeaway reviews if you want to know which one) But sadly it isn't very local to us hence the search for a local one. Sadly this is not it. 👎👎

No where near as good as the reviews make out. Flavourless, bland and way too overpriced. How it has 5* reviews is beyond me maybe the locals like unflavoured food. Chicken curry was flavourless, sweet and sour chicken flavourless and mainly vegetables, chicken fried rice way too dry and chicken Chow Mein was flavourless. Not worth the price! Do yourselves a favour and go elsewhere.

Looked up the menu on line and walked to the restaurant to find it only serves take away. The website did NOT say this which did not help since we walked for 20 mins one way!!! Needs to update the website so they don't waste peoples time!!

Stopped here for the first time by pure chance. Wasn't sure what I wanted but knew I wanted something. I opted for a vegetable chow mein and chips, now I've had a lot of chips from Chinese shop's over the years but these have got to be the best chips ever and almost never had any left by the time I got home. As for the chow mein it was hot, tasty and plentiful. I shall, without doubt be returning to this Chinese shop very soon. If you like Chinese then I'd definitely give this place a try.

I love this place. I moved to Blackheath 14 years ago and I have used it for takeaways. Good quality food, quickly prepared and staff are so helpful and friendly.

Have been getting food from here for around 10 years or so now wouldn’t order from nowhere else love the hot and sour soup it’s the best highly recommended.

Food and service is always amazing. No matter if time away...in or out of the pandemic...this place maintains the best quality of food and cleanliness and staff always curtious and helpful as well. The food is never greasy, portion size is worthy and always nom nom nom. (Coming from someone who has digestive disorders), I never have issues with any of their menu items...eat in or take away!! Been using this business for almost 40 years. Love the Cantonese Roast Duck, Rice dishes and sweet and sour dishes. The best BBQ ribs where the meat falls off the bone and huge chips. The food is always tasty and well cooked. Excellent service and lovely staff.

We have used Sun Ya for 3 years now, we dont eat Chinese food from any where else. Food is always hot and not greasy at all. By far the best Chinese takeaway in the area.

Yesterday was the first time I had ever visited this restaurant. I made a booking very late via Google on Friday for myself and a few friends to go here for something to eat before we ventured down to The British Oak for their Ska night. The restaurant was empty when I arrived but it soon filled up - they were fully booked and even had to turn people away! The restaurant is very clean, decorated beautifully and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was faaantastic - very fresh and not at all greasy like some places I have been to. We really dived into the menu and the meal (for 6 of us) came to around £143 which divided between us all worked out around £23 each - and that included beer and a couple of bottles of wine. Very reasonable indeed. Certainly recommend a visit if you're looking for somewhere to eat. I look forward to returning there myself some day. Wonderful!

Very disappointing, the food here is mostly sloppy sauce or over fried. We ate here once when we moved to the area and haven't been back.
