Came here to meet friends on a Thursday evening. We didn’t book and the car park was busy, so was hoping we would get a table and we did, near the fire nice and warm. Was busy inside and had a large birthday in, we had to wait a little for food but it was all cooked from fresh, piping hot and worth waiting. Recommend the pie too. Brilliant service and lovely cosy pub inside. Would come again.

Been coming here for a few years now and has always been spot on service food everything but not impressed with our big family Christmas dinner there was 12 of us so I appreciate it is a large party but for the first time ever they sat us in The Lounge not in the usual part of the restaurant so not a very festive atmosphere and the food definitely not up to usual standard roast potatoes so hard and over cooked yorkshire puddings ok but the beef was terrible very chewy and pink don’t think many of us ate it, the apple crumble as said in another review was like tinned apple with powdery crumble on top the price was reasonable worked out about £30 per head and service reasonable although we were chased off our table at 4:30 and we didn’t go in til 2pm with 12 people and a baby so felt a bit rushed too. I was disappointed to be honest just wondering if recently changed hands as was not the usual level of service and quality of food by a long shot

Take A Gander is hands down the best pub in Scunthorpe! Visited last night for a large family party and we couldn’t have been more impressed! The atmosphere in the pub is warm and welcoming, the front of house staff are friendly and accommodating, and the service throughout our meal was flawless. The Chef (s) is outstanding, the food is so flavoursome and the portions are very generous. Highly recommend the stroganoff and even the side dish ordered, (tenderstem broccoli) arrived in a large pasta bowl and was big enough for 3!! Great food, nice atmosphere and value for money brings us back time and again!

Went for Sunday Roast and were very impressed. Met with a smile at the Bar and were attended to by 3 different people ( food, drinks etc) and all were exceptional with their politeness and friendliness and could not have been better . Food was very good and excellent value for money. Not been to T a G for a while but will definitely be back soon.

I wanted to check this out as I hadn't been for a while so called in for lunch. The food was only average, frozen chips and peas and bought in pie. Apple crumble was tinned apples topped with a crumble which hadn't been cooked together. The price was good for a two course meal and maybe another choice might have been better but unfortunately I won't be rushing back, which is a shame because it is a lovely restaurant.

were celebrating husbands 70th b'day with family. We had to let them know in advance what we wanted because there were 8 of us! never known that before, but one ordered paella and was told chef wasn't happy with it so they had to change their order. Husband asked for pie with chips it came with mash (he hates mash had to take off his plate) he was given some chips that had been ordered to share he said they were dry. I asked for the beef spare rib was supposed to have horseraddish mash , it was plain mash no taste. I had a clean rib plonked on plate (i guess to let me know it was rib) the meat was fatty. left most of it very disappointed.

A friend and I called in for late lunch/ early tea on 18th July on our way to the Baths Halls. What a marvellous experience. It was fairly quiet as expected at that time (it got progressively busier). But the service was superb, engaging and pleasant. As was the food. We had a starter of squid (looked delicious) while I had ham egg and chips. Beautiful ham, perfect eggs and very very nice chips. My friend then had a lovely looking pud. Complete with half a cider and 4 soft drinks and the bill was under £23. The building is fascinating, everywhere was immaculate and the loos were super. I would most definitely go back.

We came for our end of term school meal, and after some fun team building activities in the afternoon we finished at this lovely place. The meal was booked for 3.30 but 2 of our teams were running late. The staff were excellent and happy to wait until we all arrived. The food was delicious and great value. All the staff were very friendly and keen to chat and asked us about our afternoon. We would all recommend this place for their great food and lovely atmosphere. Well done everyone

Absolutely shocking. This has been mine and my partner favorite place to eat until now. Over priced for food that's shocking and bought from the supermarket. Main course couldn't even cut the beef with a knife and gave up. Table had things crawling over it. In a nut shell Totallyshocking you wouldn't serve that to a homeless man as hed throw it back at you . Not be going back again until they have a new chef.

Visited for Sunday lunch on Fathers Day after hearing some good reviews from friends. I had the roast beef, my wife had the Lamb & mint pie and my sons had lasagne and a goat burger. The food was absolutely fantastic, amazing service and very reasonably priced. I didn't have a dessert but the others did and said they were delicious. We will definitely be back. ten out of ten!

Second stay here. Lovely place. Very good quality room at a very good price. Staff obviously busy, it being Christmas period, but helpful. Room large and warm. Clean and tidy. Great looking location, outside courtyard is soooo Dickensian! Very photogenic. If you're looking for something different and quaint this is the place. Was easy to get to Yorkshire Wildlife park from there, also not far to York city, Sheffield centre etc. Well worth it.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Black Bull in East Holton, and I can't recommend it enough! From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The pub itself is charming, and I especially appreciated the dedicated restaurant area. It was quiet and peaceful, providing the perfect setting for a relaxing meal. The Christmas decorations added a lovely festive touch, making the experience even more special. Now, let's talk about the food – absolutely incredible! Every dish was freshly prepared with obvious care and attention to detail. The flavors were fantastic, and the quality of the ingredients was top-notch. It's clear that The Black Bull takes pride in serving delicious, home-cooked food. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at The Black Bull. The friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and outstanding food make it a must-visit. Whether you're looking for a festive meal or simply a delicious dinner in a welcoming pub, The Black Bull is an excellent choice.
