Lovely food, wonderful restaurant, friendly staff. If you like Indian food (who doesn't!) eating at the Tamarind Tree offers a great experience. I'd thoroughly recommend it.

The rosti had run out and hence we were advised that we could order hash browns with eggs. What we received was 2 frozen mass produced hash briwns (small triangles) with eggs on top. Why anyone would charge 10 quid for some ultra processed food, beats me. But what is worse is why is a cafe that specialises in home cooked food serving up frozen mass produced food? Poor value and poor quality food unfortunately. I was also served up a luke warm chai tea and when I queried this was advised that “some people like their hot drinks delivered luke warm.” The problem was rectified quickly but this didn’t instil confidence.

Return visit to this simple Indian restaurant with it's reassuringly short and non generic menu. An aubergine dish today and perfectly cooked chips. Excellent coffee. All absolutely delicious. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Wow Wow wow what amazing food. I have to say I am not a lover of Indian food but my husband is. Innthe 26 years we have been together I have never had such amazing food so full of natural flavours and not ridiculously hot. I enjoyed every mouthful and wouldn’t hesitate to go back in a heartbeat. Please try this fantastic food or you will seriously miss a wonderful experience. The staff were attentive and really welcoming and helpful too.

We were welcomed in to the warm despite the restaurant being busy and found a table in the back half of the restaurant. We each had rosti with poached eggs and shared samosa chat and salad. The tastes were exquisite and food beautifully presented. The service was exceptional and the atmosphere bustly but we were still able to hear ourselves think and have a conversation. I am going to return with my partner soon I hope! Exceptional Thank you!

Popped in at 7pm on Saturday without booking. All tables were reserved but we got added to a table which could have sat eight and there was only two people sitting at one end. Just like they do in brick lane perfect good drinks and atmosphere. Starter and main perfect, quick efficient service.

An outstanding curry restaurant with original dishes and puddings. Possibly the best curry we've ever tasted. We can heartily recommend this restaurant and will definitely go there next time we are in Totnes.

Of all the restaurants we tried during our week in Totnes, this was the best. Fantastic food, fantastic staff, Indian food with enough of a twist to lift it way above what you might expect. Just a lovely experience all round, would highly recommend.

Was a table of 2 walk ins at 630 on a Tuesday evening . Table was nice and the drinks were lovely recommended the mango lassy Ordered a lamb dish sadly it was bland too much yougurt and the lamb was like warm in places. Chicken curry was very nice. Girlfriend is a vegan and was served non vegan friendly food after stating that she was vegan multiple times Food cleared by foh no questions if everything was ok etc Seemed like there was too much staff and no one was acting professionally. Sadly an overall poor dining experience from a place that thought highly off Won’t be returning

Five of us had a delicious meal here, all chose something different and we weren't disappointed - it was so tasty. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and it was busy on a Tuesday night, always a good sign!

We had a great meal here. Not sure which region the cuisine is based on, but everything was different and new. For instance the prawn biryani was drier than usual and deliciously laced with toasted cashews. The was none of the ubiquitous coriander, which let other flavours shine through. One starter was a sort of vine leafy type thing which none of us had ever had before, yummy. We had the Portuguese entry-wine at £24 which was very good. Puddings were very generous, £8, and were like aromatic versions of traditional puddings, really good. The staff were lovely, and we had a happy relaxed time with excellent food.

A return visit mid Friday morning for breakfast, annoyingly listed on the menu as "brunch." A reassuringly short menu with a difference to the generic Indian. Excellent coffee. A light meal of perfectly cooked fries and lighting spiced samosas. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

The food was different from the normal offering .Not particularly large portions and very expensive. The thing that really annoyed us was it was served with a supermarket warmed up naan bread not very authentic. The meal with wine was £117 not great value and sadly won’t be returning.

One of the best Indian meals we have ever had. The layering of spice and depth of flavour was exceptional. Service was superb, no thrills, no rush. Just a really relaxed vibe. Not an extensive menu, which we like. The wine was very good, and we just had a really lovely time. The best 👌

I visited Totnes with a friend yesterday. After very disappointing visits to a pub and cafe in the town, we were fortunate to find Tamarind Tree for our dinner. A very warm and friendly welcome awaited, with superb food and beer. We soon understood why so many tables were reserved! A very positive experience and we shall definitely be returning. Highly recommended.

I'm surprised to read some of the negative reviews on here - are they sure they went to this restaurant?!! I went with my dad on a Saturday evening. It was busy but the service was nonetheless great and the food was EXCEPTIONAL. Absolutely delicious, perfectly balanced flavours, perfectly hot, perfect sized portions! The wine also deserves a mention as it was delicious. The atmosphere is lovely - on a busy Sat evening sitting by the window next to a large group we could still converse. And it was lovely chatting to the manager at the end. What a truly local gem - ignore the haters and visit!!

This Indian restaurant came highly recommended. But when we cam today it was dark. Took a while to discover the opening times online. Pity they are not displayed on the outside. We will not give up and will come back one evening soon. But we did take pix of the front and a menu to confirm the look and what they serve.

This little restaurant is super good. Authentic well cooked curries and sides. We shared chicken wings, spring rolls and samosa and then followed up with the mirch mutton, chicken kadai and a dahl , with rice and breads. The staff are lovely, great atmosphere and fast service, Great addition to Totnes food scene.

The restaurant is a lovely cosy place, the staff are lovely and I love that the menu is small and is changed regularly. The staff were also happy to make tweaks to menu items to suit our tastes. The chutneys are DELICIOUS. Probably the best and most unusual we have tried. The naan is also lovely and doughy. (Really good wine too) Sadly the chicken curry really let us down. The sauce was tasty and creamy, however for 16 pounds I’d expect more than 4 small pieces of chicken, we did raise this with the waitress who did her best to rectify but I guess the restaurant standard is what we were served. (Which is why I’m writing this as if it was amended we would have felt listened to - 1.60 was offered which we accepted as we didn’t want to make the waitress feel uncomfortable ) I’m sure I’m not the only person who thinks the same. Most local curries are around 10-11 and come with much more chicken. It would also be lovely if the rice wasn’t just plain boiled rice. sadly not sure we would visit again due to the small portion of meat :( but worth a try for yourself

We have heard many a good thing about this restaurant and thought it was about time we payed a visit ourselves. There are very few Indian restaurants in Totnes so to have one as good as this is a bonus. I believe that the menu changes on a regular basis which I think can only be a good thing as you get to experience different tastes that you wouldn’t normally choose. We will definitely be back and would love to recommend to others.

Oh wow, we kept meaning to come for lunch but have never managed to get in. I had chicken skewers with naan and hubby had fish taco. My chicken was amazing, so juicy and full of flavour. Hubby really liked his fish but had some of mine and declared he's having that next time. So much to choose from, we will definitely be back. Staff were really friendly and there was a really nice atmosphere.

We had been recommended this restaurant as we had a mixed group of Veggies and meat eaters. The starters were fairly limited if you wanted to table share. T he lime pickle had a lovely kick. We ordered a wide selection of mains and sides and apart from the mutton dish the rest was very bland. If you like desserts, avoid the carrot halve it was just not right! The restaurant was quiet but it was a Tuesday night. We were a little surprised when the waiter said about leaving at 9.30 as he wanted to go home to bed! We had just ordered more drinks! We felt we were being pushed out. Sadly, we would not recommend.

Second time here and was hoping it would be better than the first visit when my food was cold and portions small. It was worse. Tiny portions like last time. Four of us eating and my order totally forgotten. When it finally arrived samosa was actually frozen. Just not worth the money. Lovely staff but won't be going back.

This was a wonderful meal, very authentic, delicious Indian dishes influenced from many regions of India - The vegetarian dishes were sublime - squash and aubergine dishes and my friends adored their slow cooked lamb. We are big foodies and have all travelled to India and this really is one of the best Indian meals I have had in a very long time in the UK. The deserts were also very very good, mango cheesecake - I am returning for. Thank you to the wonderful chef and team, we wish you all the very best and will be regulars - Much gratitude Katy and the Stubbs family.

We try Indian restaurants across the country on our travels, so know a good one when we try it out…. don’t be deceived by appearances, the decor is dated with this one, however, the food here is very well cooked, fresh & good balance of flavour, (not just three levels of hot and three shades of brown or brilliant red that you get in some) the service is attentive and not over bearing… altogether a good find in Ipswich, parking is a very short walk from the NCP car park almost opposite. So recommend if you are looking for a relatively decent curry when visiting the area

This is the best curry house in Ipswich! The food is always amazing. The staff are very friendly and always give brilliant service. We always come here for a meal before going to the Regent theatre which is across the road from the restaurant so it's very convenient.

The staff member on the phone made the ordering process difficult & frustrating, not the best start. We agreed a time to collect & when I turned up I still had to wait nearly 20mins when the restaurant was empty. We ordered the chicken Briyani, lamb jalfreze & nan breads. The chicken Briyani was very disappointing only 2 pieces of chicken in the whole dishes, too much rice for the proportion of sauce. Rice just seemed like pilau rice instead of Briyani rice. Nan bread were dry and hard. Lamb jalfreze nice to be fair to the chef. Called up to complain but was told that was standard portions, again the staff member on the phone just made the process difficult and frustrating. Don't recommend guys, plenty of other Indian restaurants in town.
