Sunday carvery was superb. Meat was not dry and veggis not over cooked. Great grub. Really friendly staff, very helpful with any condiments I wanted with my meal. Cooks were very busy but still managed to serve me within good time. All in all the alders was very warm and welcoming. Recommend a visit at least once.

After finding most places close Mondays and Tuesdays in the local area we decided to dine for lunch here. The staff are very welcoming and the food was really good. Was pleasantly impressed. Definitely a recommended place in you’re visiting the area and want a quick filling lunch :)) recommend the gammon and steak and ale pie 🥧

Mega mix grill returned twice over cooked but still stone cold

I am writing to express my disappointment with the dining experience I recently had at your establishment. I had heard good things about The Alders and was looking forward to a pleasant meal, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. To begin with, the vegetables had an extremely odd and off-putting taste, which made them difficult to enjoy. The mashed potatoes tasted artificial, as if they were made from a packet rather than being freshly prepared. The meat was, quite frankly, inedible. It was so dry and grainy that it was akin to putting sand in my mouth – a thoroughly unpleasant texture and taste. It is incredibly disappointing to have a meal where not a single element meets even a basic standard of quality. For a venue that presumably prides itself on its offerings, this experience was unacceptable. I hope you take this feedback seriously and make the necessary changes to ensure that other patrons do not have to endure such a subpar meal.

Had a table reserved, so it wasn't like they weren't expecting us. Had to wait for about 10 minutes at the bar to be served because there was only one server on, and she was prioritising preparing drinks from table orders. I ordered carveries. When paying, she turned the tablet around to ask for a tip. What for exactly? I have to order myself at the bar, then go and collect my own meal. What exactly would I be tipping for? The great service of having one server on so I had to wait ages to order? I declined. Went to get meal, and fairly certain the meat portions have gotten smaller since last time we were there. We won't be rushing back.

When we arrived they struggled to find our name and then we were put onto a badly lit table which made the menu difficult to read. When we ordered there was no indication on any delays to food being brought out and it took 50 minutes to cook chips. Nobody came to make us aware of delays we had to ask. The excuse was they were waiting for chips to cook is this not a standard item. The meal costed £4 more than carvery where you can get more food for the money and a better vegetable choice. For nearly £50 very dissatisfied.

We had reserved our table so this was a great idea as the pub was busy. We were immediately greeted at the door and shown to our tables. Once our party had decided what to order we had a long wait at the bar with only 1 serving. This was the only downside to our evening. The food and table service was great. The guy doing the carvery was very enthusiastic and friendly. Overall a nice evening.

Poor service and attitude of some staff is awful food was cold and tasteless tables were dirty and it wasn't busy

This is the fourth year of spending Boxing Day with family at The Alders for their Xmas menu. From arrival to leaving the staff are so very attentive and work really hard at making you feel welcome. The food was exceptional, as always, and there is no cutting corners despite how busy they were. I truly enjoy this being part of my families Xmas tradition and will continue to book each year as they get better and better at making it special for all.

Great food, excellent value for money and great service

Everything we asked for off the menu wasn’t available, food wasn’t cooked to how we asked for, Guinness tasted watered down… if I could leave no star rating I would! Absolutely applaud with this meal. I would not recommend at all. Avoid at all cost

Food cold and no table service for drinks - refused the puddings and left early

Access for person using a wheelchair was acknowledged and seated at a suitable table. Order was checked and correct, introduction to waitress. Waitress took drinks order, took photo for us, friendly and attentive. Food was brought in time, to order and hot. All looked and tasted delicious. We had a great time.

Don’t bother, go somewhere else for decent food. The Cowboy Burger was dry, with no cheese, minuscule salad, and hard chips - it was possibly microwaved up. The steak in our Surf’nTurf was tough and disappointing. And my wife’s tea took ages to arrive and was either green tea or very weak. Find a MacDonald’s.

Food was very disappointing and potions were small plate filled with very limp sad looking garnish had to ask for replacement cup as the one I was given was chipped my mums chicken dish came in an enamel dish with all the enamel coming of witch is unhygienic This is the second time I have been in this place and that was only because my first choice of venue was full but there will definitely not be a third

Everything was spot on from start to end, staff was outstanding (those who worked when I went there 15/12/24 from 12noon). A credit to the company, will be booking again, Thank-you for a stress free lunch and lovely smiling staff.

Sticky tables and cold plates apart, good food and service made up for it..

Had breakfast there was only 2 people in at the time and the food was disgusting over cook sausage under cook eggs hash browns full off fat bake beans where cold toast was good

Visited for a couples meal out. Drinks expensive, poor quality veg on carvery obviously been there for a while as all dried up but meat was tender. Told waiter, who didn't even acknowledge my comment about the veg, will not visit again as was like this on a previous visit but decided to try it again

Good food and a relaxing atmosphere

The carvery was lovely. All three joints of meat were of good quality and cooked to perfection. Plenty to eat and all hot. Staff were lovely, the pub was nice and warm and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely go again.

Normally all OK. This visit just not great. When I went to order I picked the lunch deal hunters chicken.and a chocolate fudge cake which meant the cake should have been 2.50 but it went on at full price and when I raised that to the staff member she had no clue, she didn't have a menu so couldn't check and no interest in sorting it out so with the queue behind me and me having raised it twice I said just forget it I will pay full price. When I got my meal it was wrong should have been hunters chicken and I got a sandwich? My friend had mac n cheese with garlic bread it was barely warm quite congealed and the garlic bread was completely burnt on one side and uncooked on the other. The server was lovely apologised and sorted it out. Pudding was fogotten about and an hour later we went and asked for it. For me was cold and stale. My friends was barely warm sticky toffee pudding that was chewy and her custard was set with a skin on top. I go regularly with my husband and we normally have a lovely meal it's the first time for my friend and she wouldn't go again she thought it was a pretty awful meal overall.

Myself and my wife called in for a meal on our way back from Nottingham. We decided to go for the carvery with me opting for the standard and my wife the small. We were both given a miniscule piece of meat and a Yorkshire pudding that looked more like a pancake. The Brussel sprouts, peas & carrots were cold & the roast potatoes either overcooked or just old. There were no Parsnips as just run out and we were told they would be 5 minutes. We left 45 minutes later and there were still none. We complained politely but were offered no apology or recompense. Will MOT be returning and most definitely would not recommend.

We’ve always had a very good experience but today 3rd December we went and we got to carvery we had a longish wait when the chef came out he didn’t greet us or anything just snapped meat as which meat we wanted then he snapped stuffing I said no thank you he didn’t even offer me a Yorkshire pudding which I’m not bothered as they were very flat just like a pancake

We cannot praise the staff here enough. Always friendly and welcoming, they helped us sort out an issue with a voucher we used and even returned a scarf my husband had left behind a week ago that he didn’t even realise was missing. They are an absolute asset to your business and are the reason we keep returning. Along with the lovely atmosphere and great food, of course.

Came in on Sunday for a carvey and was served by the lovely Jade. She was very professional and helped easily with advice on allergies and how to use the website.

Love this pub/restaurant. The food was brilliant and we'll priced. They have plenty of larger seating areas. Which was pretty good because there were 8 of us. The staff were courteous and polite. The carpark was also pretty big too. The menu is pretty extensive and the prices are reasonable. Although they do get quite busy but they don't take reserved bookings for the weekends.

Taylor who brought our food out was so kind and friendly, food was hot and such good quality, the fish was beautiful.

Just had a lovely meal with excellent service, Abbie and Taylor were lovely and helpful, and Maggie took our order with no hassle even though we were a bit fussy. We had wonderful food and there was exactly the right amount of attentiveness from the staff. Tables lovely and clean, cutlery and glasses also sparkling. Being able to have children’s size pudding portions was a definite plus and completed the meal perfectly. I only got photo of my dessert because the food was too good to wait for. Good size car park and we could park near the door which was a bonus in Storm Bert. Toilets were clean too. We will definitely be returning and it won’t be too long!

Meal and staff excellent, could not fault it. We meat friends from Chesterfield and have a meal once a fortnight. Our next meal we are booked in for is Boxing Day.

The alders pub is wonderful. The food is delicious and very well cooked. Visiting way an enjoyable experience and really made my day as the staff are incredibly kind. Especially my waitress: the beautiful kind kim. She made me feel welcomed and took the time to ensure my meal was excellent. We stopped off travelling south. The service was excellent. Really friendly people who care about the service they are giving. Better than some top restaurants I have been to. The food was good value and very tasteful. Would highly recommend and particularly in run up to Christmas as it is already very festive. Well done Colin and the team.

First visit but we were pleased with the carvery food.

Staff was lovely, seated promptly, I ordered the carvery, did not get the notification my husband's food was almost ready, he had to wait for me to get my dinner. The carvery meat was dehydrated, the peas, were completely shriveled and everything was not really hot. The mixed grill my husband had was great and the Guiness was good.

Carvery was not nice. Not busy enough for fresh food on carvery, very bland mash, jaw ache from chewing the beef, concrete block are softer than the stuffing and the Yorkshire puddings mix was too heavy (very doughy) To top it off very flat coke

A little disappointed, onion rings soft not crispy both our chips were cold and tasted fatty. For how long we waited for the meal, potatoes could have been peeled, cut and cooked from fresh. Obviously frozen chips are quicker these days..

Food was nice, staff friendly and nice environment. There wasn't a lot of vegetarian/vegan options so that's maybe something that could be worked on but the veggie burger was very good

Food was awful, I had the gammon which I sent back due to it resembling charcoal, the tomato and pineapple were also burnt! My daughter had the cheddar and potato pie which I can only presume was made out of cement and not pastry. The only good thing about the experience was the friendly staff

Took over 10 minutes to order drinks.Food took an eternity to arrive and when it did arrive the chicken was a little pink inside didn’t complain but left the food. Possibly an off day but wouldn’t go again

Carvery was absolutely awful. Roast pork was a slice of fat!! The vegetables were tasteless, and the gravy was very thick and glue like!!

Came for the first time having just moved to the area and will be the only time unfortunately. Had to wait quite a while to be seated, once seated the chairs were filthy (full of stains and some tears) so swapped with cleanest ones could find. Everything felt sticky, tables, door handles etc and the toilet smelt like someone had just had a fag in it. Then the food arrived, very average, hardly any taste and the chips were hard and barely edible as very undercooked. The two girls serving were the only redeeming part of a very disappointing experience.

Stopped here on our way home for a quick meal. The staff were very pleasant, friendly and helpful. We were seated quickly and could order at the bar through the QR code on the table. This was quick and easy to use. The food and drinks were served quickly and were both well presented and hot. They have a good choice of food and drinks. Well worth a visit.

Service is amazing, had the carvery, whilst the veg was gorgeous the beef was very fatty and tough and the turkey very overcooked so couldn't eat it

The carvery was beautiful, best mash I've had on a carvery anywhere, great choice of vegetables to accompany, and the beef was perfect. The staff were friendly and welcoming, spacious and good disabled access.

Really enjoyed our meal here. Delicious carvery and a good choice of other dishes on the menu. Friendly service too.

Visited tonight for my Grandsons 16th birthday, he actually likes the cowboy burger so his choice. What an absolute mistake, a party of 8. My daughter and myself ordered pies, chicken and stake and ale. Daughters came out with a solid top even the knife wouldn't cut into it. My steak pie was so solid on the top it was not possible to either cut into it or eat it. My daughter asked for it to be sent back,it came back even worse and someone chucked the watery gravy all over it. Fetched a member of staff and refused to rat it, asked just for a basket of chips, she was refunded the £13 and free horrible chips for free. I gave the server the top of my concrete pie back and said tell the chef he can use it as a brick or door stopper. I will never step in Alders again Oh whilst we were there fire alarm went off twice, probably the chef was burning the pies

Paid for a roast carvery and literally no roast potatoes. Nathan the chef has awful people skills and treats the job life it's and inconvenience. Worst attitude to have when dealing with paying public. The service staff were amazing and apologised for his behaviour explaining he has had numerous complaints before.

Had the Scampi, Mac and Cheese and Beef lasagna which were all very nice and was served by Abbie and Tom who were very nice and welcoming.

Got in Alders 11.30 for Wednesday's curry and rice and soft drinks £12.50. got meals 10 past 12 just to find how curry and rice nearly cold very disappointed don't think it was the chefs fault I think it was ready before that just that the nice barmaid had for got to bring it to us. So a big thumbs down.

Came here following a break to Center Parcs, didn’t know the area so was a finger on a map for a bite to eat on the way home. We were here before opening hours, one of the staff, Nick opened up to let us in as we were hanging around in the car park. Lovely pub, Nick was very pleasant and accommodating, making sure we were well looked after. Food was lovely isn’t going to break the bank. Three of us ordered off the normal menu and three of us off the lunchtime special menu which is very good value for money and filling. Drinks were not expensive, and the rest of the staff very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely come back for a meal out!

Big turnaround & running back to how it used to, fresh food, plenty of and great team

Disappointing. I am not complaining about the time the meals took to arrive as there was clearly a large party in and an obvious lack of staff on duty. I would like to congratulate the young lady serving the meals for keeping her cool despite the amount of complaints she was having to deal with when the rest of the staff were no where to be seen to take the heat off her. Well done Taylor 👏 Now about the meals. The vegetable Thai style curry was so hot that it couldn't be tasted. The 2 Burgers.. 1 was fresh and hot with fresh fries. The other had clearly been sat on the side for an hour and warmed up. The fries were inedible, and the burger was merely enjoyable. I was too hungry, having waited so long to bother asking for a replacement. We won't be back I'm afraid
