The Almanack in Warwick

It’s been a while since our last visit to The Almanack and that wasn't good when we ordered food. Today, I popped in after walking the dog, for a cup of coffee, toast and an egg sandwich. The coffee was good, served quickly. The accompanying smarties, a welcome little treat and nice touch. Unfortunately, after 25 minutes of waiting, many glances to try and catch the eye of any staff member, me and my doggy friend were still waitinging for the toast, for him, and my sandwich. There were three other tables occupied. It was not busy. It’s great to have a place that welcomes mans best friend, but please, can you improve the service? We left after my dog became bored and started to be a bit vocal. After all, I didn't want to disturb the other 9 people in there. Its a lovely venue, but once again, let us down when ordering food. And when I say food, I mean toast. The bar staff kindly refunded the food. Thank you.

I’m a regular in Almanack! Really like the place! Modern, clean, friendly staff, nice food… Everything is fine except one thing… The portions. I have breakfast and brunch all the time and the portions are so small!!! First time I had pancakes I thought they was a mix up and brought me a kid’s portion. 3 tiny pancakes, 3 bites…. Thought it was a joke! Quantity is disproportionate to the price! Such a shame because it’s a great place.

The almanack is amazing, the food is amazing and so are the staff! There is always a warm and friendly vibe. We have visited twice now once for their Monday pizza and wine deal which was amazing value and the chef even came to chat to us about the pizza ! Great value and delicious. We have also recently been to try their Christmas set menu again amazing quality of food and for the price it is well worth the treat.

The food here was really delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

I couldn't recommend this place enough with such friendly staff and service and the food was incredible the chef even came out to speak to us. Best in Warwickshire

I would like to praise a place in kenilworth. In September I won first prize in a raffle and it was 2 course meal for 2 people at the Almanac pub. We went last Saturday afternoon, we didn’t book. We asked at the bar and showed our voucher. We were set up a tab and shown to our table. The young lady that served us was absolutely lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. She asked the manager if we could have from the grill as well as mains and the manager said we could. I had the soup of the day Carrot, sage and Walnut and it was gorgeous. My husband had the chicken wings and said they were the best he had ever had. For mains I had Steak Diane and my husband steak & Ale pie. They were both gorgeous. I have been to other pubs that when you have a voucher the staff really can’t be bothered with you but the staff in the Almanac were really really lovely. A real credit to Kenilworth.

We had breakfast here. Reasonable prices, very friendly and helpful staff. A delightful start to our day.

Always an inviting atmosphere with excellent service.

Incredibly disappointed. This is not a pub but more like a hotel lobby restaurant trying to be a pub. The battered fish had a horrible smell when we cut it open. We sent it back only to be told that the chef thought it was fine. It wasn’t a. The bread on the grilled cheese sandwich was soggy. In general, certainly not what we were expecting given the description in open table. We were just passing through, so had no idea. Felt very deceived.

Pizza evening with the family!! Lovely pub, friendly staff. Amazing pizza!!🍕 lovely and interesting selection and asked for the recipe for the dipping sauce.

My partner and I popped in for the new pizza night they are putting on and was very impressed, it was absolutely delicious! The servers were incredibly attentive and couldn’t do enough for you. We will definitely be coming back soon.

We came & tried out the pizza menu this evening, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was super friendly & chilled out & the staff were so upbeat & courteous. Had a lovely evening & will definitely be back.

Arrived late and the staff were super helpful in organising a meal. We ordered and food arrived: it was excellent - looked up to see the chef watching us to see if we were enjoying it… very impressed! Fish and chips were excellent… thanks for a great night!

Just back from a great lunch here - crab cake starter and lamb burger from the specials menu, really well cooked. Staff were very welcoming and timed their attention perfectly. I'm a visitor to the area - if you open a branch in Bath I'll be there like a shot!

Food and service are all good. Unfortunately, the coffee machine steamer was broken so no hot drinks with hot milk available that morning which is why I took off a star.

We previously would visit The Almanack often but have since moved further away so had not been for awhile. We were quite shocked how different it was from previous experiences. The food portions were small and pricey and really not great. Chewy rump at £23, peppercorn sauce £2.75 as an added extra and no veg (except a pinch of rocket). No mushroom, grilled tomato. Ordered green salad on the side £4.75 so that meal was £30.50! Would have been acceptable if the steak was delicious, juicy and tender but it wasn't. Glass of wine wine £11.60. The Alamanack used to be a thriving hub of happy diners but when we visited, there was no real ambience and it was pretty empty. Not surprising, I guess, if they are no longer providing a good experience. Really quite saddening such a great place reduced to what seems to be the waiting room to closure. It is important to say that the staff were all absolutely lovely. Really disappointing....

Very good service. Menu limited for vegetarians but food itself was quite nice. Tables and floor could do with a good clean as they were sticky .

Found this restaurant whilst driving past with work, thought that looks ok, checked on the internet and booked for Sunday lunch. Had a lovely 3 course meal and had not 1 thing negative to say about it. When again the following but this time opted for the menu rather than Sunday lunch. Again a lovely meal and nothing negative to say. The staff are friendly and professional, and a shout out to Lilia, only been once before and she remembered us and also remembered that I asked for no peas, that to me shows her quality as I’m sure she had served 100’s of customers over the previous week.

Been going here for years. Excellent food, friendly and attentive service and nice atmosphere. Quality is reliable, clean facilities and easy to get to with car parking tucked behind (you have to pay). Price is on the high side, especially for drinks.

I went with a huge group. The food was on pointe. The staff went out of their way to accommodate everyone. Beautiful clean surroundings. Great friendly atmosphere. I really enjoyed the whole experience and can't thank them enough. Am looking forward to going again.

New head chef with an impressive specials board.My husband and I had the cod cheek Rendang curry and what a fantastic dish it was.Many thanks Cal we will certainly be trying more of your fish specials Tracey and Scott

The meal was lovely but the ambience let's it down. Sticky small table for 4 of us. We had the booth. Restaurant is echoy. Service was average, perhaps because it was father's day. had to grab their attention if needed something. Doesn't feel high end restaurant but enjoyed the food.

I had the best experience today , I am newly diagnosed with coeliac and other intolerances and I’ve never been somewhere where they are so helpful and understanding of this . All of the staff are lovely and Emily is just the best and I’m so grateful I met her today . Definitely the place to go if you’re worried about eating out as they really do understand and will go above and beyond for you ! I will definitely be coming back and will recommend to everyone I know !

I have eaten at The Almanack many times with my parents and grandfather and it has always been a pleasant experience. I love how the restaurant is dog friendly and always has a great atmosphere. However, my visit today was beyond words. We had the most incredible server, Gianluca, they were the most the animated, enthusiastic, genuine and funny person I have ever met working in a restaurant. Every time they came over, we were in absolute histerics with their charisma skills and witty comments. They were also incredible ag their job, when a side dish was forgotten they were so apologetic and used comedy to make up for it which did just the thing! We even had a lengthy coversation in intervals about college and our interests! It was the most amazing evening with, as always, great food and drinks. This server needs a raise or promotion!!!!

We had a lovely afternoon in the Private Dining Room at The Almanack for my daughter's Baby Shower. There were 14 of us and we were allowed to take our own decorations to personalise the room. The staff were attentive, friendly, welcoming and helpful and the food was very good. The room needs to be booked and I would recommend doing this directly with the pub rather than through guest services. A food pre order was required for this number of people. All three Managers/Deputy Managers were very helpful in the lead up to the event and responded to queries very quickly. The staff on the day could not do enough to help us. Thank you everyone for making us feel so welcome.

Great stop off for a bike ride. Easy access from the road, sit outside to enjoy the coffee and cake. Ideal.

It looks lovely and the food is really good, however I feel it's vastly overpriced!

Good atmosphere, dog friendly and very popular. On the negative side Cappuccino without frothy creme and just a dusting of chocolate is not a Cappuccino!

Lovely place, around the aria I tend to do alot of my jogging as this leads me from jephens to pump room gardens, nice part of town ,beautiful scenery, which a wonderful feeling helps me with my jogging so yes it's a good feeling ..

This was the first time I had visited this establishment - in fact I never knew it existed. The reason I was there was for a funeral wake. The surroundings were pleasant and the staff friendly. However I was not too keen on the food. It was perfectly edible but not to my taste so I would only visit again for a similar event as this time. I certainly wouldn't choose it as a place for lunch, etc.

We’ve been here several times over the years but our recent visit for was most disappointing. I had a fish finger sandwich which was just a couple of small bits of fish in a small bread roll and not very good value. My wife’s schnitzel was equally unimpressive. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Truly excellent food. However, several items on the menu were not available, which made it difficult for those on restricted diets. Some items in a dish were omitted or changed without explanation. Took three attempts to get the bill correct (and even then it wasn't right), which left a bit of a bad taste. Yet despite this, the food was really tasty.

I had a lovely mid week meal at the Almanack with some coworkers. I was served by the gorgeous Ellie who recommended me the fish and chips and it was delicious! Ellie was so attentive to us all during our meal and the atmosphere was lovely also. I will definitely be back😊

Lovely evening, Jack was really helpful and assisted me and couldn’t do more for us! We had the duck leg and the lamb Shepard’s pie which were amazing! Would recommend a friend and will be back soon!

Waited ages to be taken to seats. Over familiar and fake greeting with no apology for waiting - and it was quiet. Seated in an area with smell of damp/drains and very cold. Had 3 different servers none responded to comments about this. The food was ok but the whole experience was very disappointing.

Very disappointed in this restaurant. Booked it two months ago for a family birthday, but when we arrived there was no table ready and we had to wait while a waiter hastily pushed tables together. Cutlery was thrown on the table and we waited a long time for every part of the service. We had three young children with us and it was early evening, so before the busy period. Food was fine, but basic items were not available e g prawns and ciabatta (there was an open Waitrose only about 5 minutes walk away). Not to the standard we expected for a highly competitive area. Definitely wouldn't recommend.

Great food, great service - busy Sunday service for a delicious roast.

My only disappointment was that we had been charged for 2 drinks that we never received which I didn’t realise until I had left the venue

We had a very disappointing Sunday lunch. Prawns and tomato starter was burnt and greasy - not nice despite the recommendation. Roasts were okay but warm at best. Chocolate brownie was a poor chocolate cake with sauce poured on. Over priced and under delivered. Have visited many times before and had better experience but will give it a wide birth from now on. A real shame.

We booked a table of 15 for a Saturday afternoon/evening for my daughter's birthday, after another venue had let us down the day before. I was really pleased they had space as we booked it with just over 24hrs notice and was told they may not have everything on the menu as it was a large booking with late notice. Well the only thing they didn't have was peas, so I think we can let them off! We often find when eating out with a large number of people, at least one person in our party has a bad experience with their food, but not this time. The food was great, came out super quick, was hot and everyone enjoyed their meal. We got there to discover we had the private room at the back of the restaurant which was brilliant. The service was great and we didn't feel as if we were forgotten about when the main restaurant got busy. We often go to the almanack for breakfast and have never had a bad experience but it will now be our first choice with family parties for the future. Thank you to the Almanack for saving our day and giving everyone a great experience.

Went in for Breakfast in the Restaurant area then a guy came in with a dog and joined 3 other people on a table opposite. I asked the staff if dogs were allowed in the restaurant area and was told they worked for the company. Shouldn't he know better.

Good food at lunchtime. Tasty and not the usual stuff. Staff friendly and helpful. A bit noisy for my 94 year old Mum

Had lunch with my Daughter today. The welcome and service were really friendly and professional. The food was absolutely delicious (highly recommend the Salt Beef and cheese toastie with Marmite Onions 🙂) I'd particularly like to give praise to our server Sally, thank you 🙏

Very warm welcome Roast beef & 3 roast dinners were so good, extra Yorkshire puds & roast potatoes offered during your meal. Sea bream was really good too. All staff really friendly, efficient & efficient A must visit for Sunday dinner if you are visiting Kenilworth

Quite mixed. Food was tasty, if a little too expensive for what it is. Perhaps in a minority as we like tea, as opposed to coffee, after a meal. Not recommended here though, as the teapots we were given were cracked and chipped....so was one of the replacements!! New crockery needed.

Everything was excellent. We went for a Sunday dinner and I had the best Roast dinner in a restaurant for a long time. The staff were so friendly and helpful,I would highly recommend going there to eat.

Changed quite a lot from pre-Covid times. Friday and Saturday nights were always busy and you struggled to get to the bar. The staff now seem a little annoyed to be serving you, the beers aren’t always as fresh as could be. Probably won’t return until new management and a change in staff attitudes.

Very good staff, who were attentive. The music was too loud (for privacy?) and appeared to cause the conversations at tables to rise in compensation. There are very little soft furnishings to absorb the natural level of conversations, and adding music doesn't help. I'm not trendy enough to use any of the comments in the next section. I can only say, that for twelve years it was our family's go to restaurant in Kenilworth, especially with growing children, but the music has killed it for us. You can't make conversations anymore. Pity!

Worst pub ever. Think I’d get better service in hell! 10 minutes to be seated for our booking. Rude waiters ignored us while we waited. We were told to continue to wait while a male manager typed an order into the til, seating us would’ve taken 20 seconds but instead he made us wait. He eventually pointed to the table, didn’t seat us or give us menus. After 5 mins we went to get our own menus. We then continued to wait until I eventually got up and asked for service and eventually we could make a drinks order, 23 minutes after our booking time. Food was poor, inflated prices for little food. We then had to wait 15 mins to pay for the bill which was a rip off anyway. Will never return

Dog friendly, we ate light bites in the bar. Atmosphere was buzzing for a Wednesday night. It was busy, but no wait for the food.

Terrible night out. Cold burnt food which I would not feed my dog! Chefs there have no pride or no training. How hard is it to deep fry onion rings! Pictures speak for themselves

We booked to celebrate with my husband’s parents on a flying visit. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. I had made a mess of booking online (be careful if you get an email asking you to confirm booking) but they quickly found us a table and all was well. I love the menu. Good range and some unusual veggie options. Lovely non alcoholic drink options for the driver too.

Very busy Saturday lunch time, quite noisy but with a good vibe. Staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly if they tried. A little bit pricey for food that was only good, not great. An enjoyable experience non the less.

The Almanac might be a dog friendly pub but it's NOT a customer friendly pub there's no control on the dogs barking so every body else has to suffer. Also dogs sitting on the benches slobbering on the table do these people allow that at there house?

Choose surf and turf sharing board from special board.18 0z T bone which was cooked to perfection, tempura monk fish , which was crispy on the outside and moist inside served with 2 sauces, chips, mushrooms and tomatoes all for £60.00 for the 2 .Thanks to chef Sam who came to us personally to make sure we were enjoying our meal.Excellent will be having this again. It’s been sometime since visiting here due to hit more miss experiences - I understand the challenges within hospitality right now. But, very pleased to say my faith is restored, delightful food and service. Will be back!

We moved our annual family get together to the Almanack for the first time . There were 22 of us - 16 adults and 6 kids. From start to finish it was a great experience. All three courses were excellent whatever was chosen and the service was spot on. We’ll be back as a group next year and as smaller groups through the year no doubt.

19/11 had a beef roast dinner x 2 and lemon cheesecake. What can I say...Best roast we have had in years here... cheesecake was mega 😋 will look forward to coming back.

My experience is very outstanding. It's service too fast. This restaurant is wonderful for its service food and also atmosphere.

We decided to break a 5 hour journey from the North to Southampton for a long weekend break with a night stop in Kenilworth. Unfortunately a puncture on the M1 didn’t get it off to a great start. However, the service and quality of food we enjoyed more than made up for it! Having spent my career in hospitality I’m often left underwhelmed! From arriving at the bar to saying good night we were made to feel so welcome. I need to mention George has a natural grasp on what we call ‘hospitality soft skills’. These skills are all too rare and can’t be taught only developed. It’s the little things that make the difference, pleasant engaging conversation, genuine desire to create a great experience and maintaining a positive attitude. Having grown up in Coventry, seeing Aubrey Allen butchers proudly promoted on the menu brought back many happy memories. Great to see Peach Pubs embracing local businesses. Thank you to George, Jordan and Peach Pubs you give us hope for the hospitality industry!

It’s a nice place for a drink, but I wouldn’t really recommend it if you’re looking for a restaurant to enjoy a good meal. It’s quite noisy, and the food is of average quality. The lady who served us was friendly, but overall the service would benefit from some improvement. It’s often difficult to get a drink (struggling to get the attention of a waiter, and then it takes ages to receive the drink) and both main meal and desert were served without cutlery. All in all, a decent place for sure, go and have a drink, but for dinner I’d recommend looking elsewhere.
