The Ash Tree Inn in Selby

The Ash Tree was buzzing on a Friday night - and I'm not surprised. Whoever's in the kitchen knows what they're doing. Lovely food, served in sizeable portions by competent friendly staff, made for a really good evening. Don't miss it.

Excellent lunch today. Everything was fantastic, including very friendly service. The best Sunday lunch we have had for a while. I had the trio of meats. Huge portions and cooked to perfection. Great yorkies to start with. We left nothing. I cheekily asked for a few leftovers and was given the end bits of the roasts for my dog, Rigbsy 🐶 This was a lovely touch…. Sadly no room for a pudding .. This is what I would call a ‘proper Sunday dinner’ Well done to Jane, Martin and all the team 👌

Booked a table for a meal on New Year's eve with friends. Wasn't aware that it was just the tapas menu that was available but this didn't spoil our experience...far from it. The staff were very attentive and made a couple of fresh pizzas for 2 of our party who didn't want tapas. The food was of excellent quality, large delicious tapas portions and the pizzas were freshly made. A thoroughly enjoyable evening with live music as a bonus. Thankyou Happy New Year

We both visit regularly and loved the food’s quality. My husband‘s main dish was a good sized portion. Unfortunately, this couldn‘t be said for mine; my linguine with prawns and chili would have fitted into a Latte Cup! Come on! I mentioned it to the waitress who merely said she‘d pass it on to the cook. Pity.

Went with friends for the Xmas menu which we had pre booked weeks before. We had an email telling us where we would be- a lovely cosy room behind the bar which we had had several times. However on arrival we had ben put in the cold conservatory . After much discussion and furniture moving we were allowed in the room booked. Then came the food. Several of us had turkey( which appeared to be turkey roll) soggy roast potatoes which were probably left from the day before, and soggy limp parsnips. But to top it all the sprouts were solid and completely inedible. We told the waitress who seemed embarrassed but didn’t do anything about it. 2 people had sea bass which was more like a starter than a main with NO vegetables. The best option seemed to be the blade of beef which apparently was very good The puddings were muddled up which resulted in waiting for more to be prepared, and the sticky toffee puddings actually had solid lumps of toffee in it! The crackers were the worst I have ever had- not even a plastic toy but a small sticker like children get at the dentist! One of them was empty! Having been to the Ash Tree many times I feel it is never to be repeated!

Just had the most underwhelming meal at the Ash Tree that I have had in a long time. I mentioned my disappointment of the meal, which was the sea bass in a sauce on a small bed of sloppy celeriac mash and that was it, to the waitress and asked her to pass on my comments to the chef but guess what no one followed it up. Will not be going there again in a hurry.

Just had Sunday lunch at the Ash Tee Inn Very disappointed Firstly very uncomfortable seating and cramped tables, no room to move. Onto the food, our party of four chose from the Sunday lunch menu I found the food unappetising, and quite tasteless. The roast potato ( yes just the one), wasn’t roasted, very pale, and hard. The gravy watery and tasteless My daughter ask for mash instead of roasties, lots of confusion from the server , implied they didn’t have mash yet when the dinners came, the other 3 of us had mash under our meat and she only had 2 roasties ( again didn’t resemble roasts) Very small amounts of veg to share for four of us. We found the whole experience lacking. It was expensive for what it was, we decided not to have dessert at £7 per dessert. Definitely not worth a visit. Won’t be back.

Always good but probably getting even better. Wonderful staff and an excellent kitchen. Summer or winter this place delivers. Excellent beers and reasonable prices all round . We visit a couple of times a month for lunch or dinner. The best in the area by some margin.

What a gem of a place! We arrived in our motorhome looking for a one night pub stopover.i jumped out and went in the inn to ask if we could park up for the night and have some food and drinks.the girl behind the bar was lovely and told us where we could park. The food was amazing ,we sat in the beer garden as we had 3 small dogs with us.lovely atmosphere all around.there were covered in booths in the garden too ,for shelter.all the staff were so polite and friendly.will definitely seek out this place again on our travels.

Gorgeous food. I had the pizza and it was like being back in Italy. Husband had the burger and said it was one of the best he's had. Fantastic wine list also and lovely friendly staff

Absolutely spot on, beautiful food, the best attentive servers, nothing too much trouble, we sat in the quiet part thankfully so we could hear each other speak but the atmosphere was homely and warm, couldn’t ask for more!

It is AMAZING! It’s has great food. It has good service and it’s easy to get to if you live close to it, like if you live in Little Fenton or Biggin.

Fantastic pizzas at the Ash, the best for miles around in my opinion. The Tre Carne and Margherita are my favourites. The dough is so soft and cooked perfectly and the toppings to match!

We visited here after a recommendation and unfortunately it was really disappointing. The Sunday dinner was served with two small slices of meat, which sat on top of mashed potatoes (presumably to make it appear more generous) a single roast potato (which wasn’t fully cooked as it was so large it really could have been classed as a baked potato) and half a carrot. Three little pots of veg accompanied, shared between the other diners. They say gluten free is available but just leave gluten containing items off the plate, rather than offering a substitute. The service was slow, although the food arrived reasonably quickly. Overall not a complete disaster but sadly we won’t be returning.

Beautiful food. We were a party of 9 and the food and service was exceptional. The Lobster Ravioli was amazing. The staff were all friendly and happy to help. We will definitely be returning soon. Great to see a local pub serving fab food with great customer service. Thanks for such a lovely night.

We had the 3 course Christmas dinner it was abs lovely and a real bargain the service was a tiny bit slow but it didn’t affect our experience

Very disappointing meal, we all had the Christmas menu and quite honestly the parsnips were the worst I've ever had, no fresh carrots, only plates placed in front of us with no tureens of vegetables, tiniest amount of mashed potatoes and only one roast potato, our friends agreed it was not the best, will we go back not in the immediate future

Despite living only 10 miles away for over 10 years we visited The Ash Tree for the first time 2 weeks ago - but have been back 3 times since! It has all the attributes you would want from a perfect pub. Super shiny clean but also really cosy with open fires in almost every room. All 4 visits we have had very friendly welcome from multiple members of staff. Good beer, nice wine and an amazing menu with loads of choice. The standard menu is great but the specials blackboards are extremely tempting. On our last visit there was also an additional festive menu. All the food we had was exceptional and piping hot. So glad we have found this lovely place

We live locally in Sherburn and this is the best and most consistent restaurant in this area we go as often as we can, the normal menu is great and has a lot of choice but the specials menu is always what we seem to go for it's outstanding, the Sunday roast is always a winner too but you need to book to guarantee a table.

Booked a late afternoon/ early evening meal for my wife’s 68th Birthday and I must say that we enjoyed a fabulous meal. The variety on the menu is tremendous but the ‘Specials’ really were first class. We certainly will return, hopefully to taste the Festive season’s menu. We thanked the landlady for an exceptional meal, at a very reasonable price.

What a fabulous pub serving amazing food. Lovely pub with a real fire, very friendly landlady & staff. 3 of us went Saturday night for a meal we all had the smaller portion meals. Gammon, chips, peas, egg, pineapple, tomato, mushroom - more than enough on the plate, even left a few chips. A really brilliant tasty meal for £8 each. We will be going back. Really poor service. Stuck in a side room and ignored. Bulk over taste. Microwaved desserts burnt. Staff thought it was funny… what?

Came here with friends for a birthday meal and although the rest of the meals were very nice , mine was very poor. I ordered beef bourginon at £20 and it came with a pile of mash and a very small piece of beef half of which was fat and gristle. I complained to the waitress that it was very poor and that I had also noticed that it should have come with veg although I had received none and all she said was I’m very sorry I’ll let the chef know! Nothing else was said! I then ordered a dessert all of which were priced at £7 and when it arrived although it was nice all of them were a very small portion which was gone in 6 mouthfuls and certainly not worth £7. The wine was £6 a glass for a medium glass and I noticed it was the same stuff readily available at supermarkets for &6.50 a bottle!!! Totally over priced for what it is and staff didn’t seem too concerned that a complaint had been made no effort was made to try and rectify it. It’s a shame it’s over priced for what it is. as the place itself is nice and the majority of the food was nice but to justify the prices I would expect a higher quality and bigger portions as I left still hungry after paying £27 for 2 courses!!!

We went for lunch as we were passing . We had been before it was refurbished and always had a good meal here . This time we weren’t disappointed!! It was busy ( always a good sign.) and we hadn’t booked, but we were found a place. The lunch menu was written on slates , but we decided to have the a la carte menu. I chose the Tri Carne pizza with pepperoni, Parma ham and ndjula, and my wife The Ash Tree burger. My pizza arrived on a wooden platter with a pizza cutter, the whole thing was exquisite. My wife’s burger which I tasted , was even better, with a really rich grilled taste. It came with fries and Coleslaw. We couldn’t stay for afters, but we will return and next time we’ll be sure to book.

Absolutely stunning. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Combined with the friendly and attentive staff we had a lovely dining experience. Will definitely be coming again.

Disappointing. Staff disinterested and disorganised. Wine glass covered in lipstick marks. Had to ask for the replacement wine to be served and had to ask them for my change on the way out. Food served suspiciously quickly and Haddock Rosti seemed reheated.

Called in at tea time and had ribeye steak and gammon, both dishes cooked well and salad dressing amazing, would recommend.
