The Bear in Rugby

I ordered a chili con carne from the menu. From my understanding of the dish it's cooked with pinto beans and tomatoes and other vegetables as well as the meat . My dish was a Chilli burger mashed up and put together with some rice. If you haven't got the dish just say you haven't got it , don't try and serve up something and think nobody will notice .

Sunday lunch for 5, 3 were lovely, 2 (roast beef) not so great, meat was pretty tough. Mentioned when plates were collected, but no feedback, mentioned to the same girl at the bar, as to if it had been mentioned to the chef, who had no idea what we were talking about. Nice place and good staff, but need to follow up with issues better- just acknowledging it, saying sorry and getting some feedback from the kitchen would have sufficed.

sunday lunch beef was tough when i mentioned this to the staff they just said is it? not interested in constructive critisism. this is the only time food has not been good but no one seemed bothered

Food was it's usual high standard, the staff are friendly & helpful, although you don't need to book would advise to book as can get busy

I have eaten here a number of times. The main was nice today but the dessert (Eton mess) was complete slop. Lacking in any meringue. Might be worth looking at the recipe again. Not nice or worth £6.50.

I booked an afternoon tea for myself and a friend. It was delicious, the bread and sandwich filling was lovely. Scones and cake were nice but my only suggestion would be a better quality slice of cake perhaps. Would definately return.

We went to the bear for Christmas dinner 2024. This was the first time that the pub had done Christmas dinner under the new management and it was absolutely fantastic. The food was great. The staff were even better and we really enjoyed ourselves. Just like to say a big thank you to Michael and his team for making the day special. Definitely value for money and we hope to come back next year.

We went with friends for a late lunch festive menu. The food we had was very, very tasty, well presented and plentiful. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to other friends. Will cetainly be back for Sunday lunch. Thank you.

Seven of us went in today for a bit of lunch. We knew it might be busy but we took our chances. 20 to 30 minute wait for food was explained as we ordered. Not a problem. When the food came it was delicious. The service was spot on and we could tell that the staff were slightly stressed with it being so busy, but they delivered and made us very happy. Thank you so much The Bear.

Booked a table for 1pm which was fine and the lady who we spoke to was very nice. We ordered from the festive menu and was told that there would be a 25 minute wait, which was no problem. But we waited nearly 50 minutes before we got our main course. My wife and I had the festive burger. Mine was ok but my wife’s had no Brie on at all. Our friends had the roast beef dinner and the beef was really tough. We ordered desserts, which when they came were I thought really small. Not somewhere I will go for lunch again. We finally got out at just before 3, with a short time eating and a long time waiting.

I love going to the bear for food and just a drink , food is lovely ! Atmosphere is always lovely and the staff are so friendly and cheery x

A large group of us visited for our Christmas gathering. Food was served hot and was tasty. There was 2 different sports showing to cater for those in there and the bar service was great! Highly recommend!

The food was really tasty, warm atmosphere and the football game was on too. Only negative was the service wasnt amazing but still really nice.

We went to The Bear for a festive meal on 2/12/24. Staff friendly, food amazing. Out of the 4 of us we all ordered different starters, mains and desserts. Beautifully presented and delicious. Great value for money too. Festive menu was fabulous, have eaten off the main menu previously and also lovely. What a gem of a place.

Had a lovely party up the Bear last night for my husbands birthday. Everyone said how nice the Christmas buffet was and Michael and all the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Went to The Bear as it is a convenient half way point for me and my friend. Lunch was lovely and the service was top notch. The lady behind the bar was really friendly and even bought a bowl of water over for my dog. Sadly I don't live near enough to be a regular but I'll definitely be back next time I have a catch up with my pal! Thank you :0)

Came here for a Sunday roast and it was absolutely divine. The roast potatoes were really fluffy, excellent portion sizes and the biscuit cheesecake finished it off perfectly. Service was also exceptional. Can't wait to come back

Somewhere we dont visit very often but we thought we would give it a try for Sunday dinner. Quite expensive and really poor value for money. We both had one slice of beef on our Sunday dinners, we couldn't believe it to be honest and definitely wouldn't return. You can get a much better Sunday dinner locally at a cheaper price with more than one slice of meat. We won't be returning as really poor for the price

What a lovely place. Spent a weekend with my friend who lives nearby and extols the virtues of her local pub so much that I had to try it. Came on a Saturday evening and tried the steak with added scampi. Steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and every mouthful was delicious. Crispy fluffy chips and little scampi bites. Service was excellent - 10 meals all arrived together, all piping hot and all plates were left clean. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, we had 5 dogs with us and the staff were just delighted to see them. Hard to find fault with the Bear. We have just been in for Sunday lunch and it was every bit as enjoyable as Saturday night!

Phoned half an hour in advance to book a table for Sunday lunch . Helpful response….when we arrived the service was so friendly and helpful. The Sunday roast was amazing- Yorkshire pudding and the cauliflower and leek with cheese sauce were particularly amazing !

We had not been to the Bear for some time. We decided to go for a lunchtime meal and arrived around 1pm. It wasn't too busy and the lady behind the bar was very welcoming. We ordered our starters and mains at the bar and courses arrived very quickly and were all good in fact we could have managed without the starters as the mains were more than sufficient. A good choice and the lady behind the bar was a real bonus as she was so helpful.

We were looking for somewhere to go following family ceremony. I noticed that The Bear now does Afternoon Teas and I made contact late the day before to see if they could accommodate us. Not only did they accommodate us, but Michael went out of his way to make us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble which really helped after this difficult occasion. The Afternoon Tea was very nice and easily comparable to other places we’d been and good value for money. Thank you to Michael and the team at The Bear, we would highly recommend.

We booked for Sunday lunch and ordered on arrival. Our lunch was with us within minutes. The food was lovely and the service excellent. There was a great atmosphere, as there was football being shown but it was not rowdy. I stayed on for a few more drinks and had an enjoyable afternoon. Thanks to Michael and the Team

We came here today 15sept 2024 for a nice birthday dinner but what an absolute disappointment. All our food was horrible meat on the Sunday roast was tough my friend could not even cut it with the knife. I thought okay the burgers will be great as they promote it so much what a boring tastefull burger not coming back and hope everyone that read this don't eat there. You can only drink only thing they can't screw up.

Food is very bad. I sometimes wonder how someone wouldn’t be able to cook a simple burger. All you need is not to burn the meat. Bun was either microwaved from frozen or it was ar least a week old. It crumbled while eating. On top of that, bad food is overpriced

Lovely Sunday beef roast. The cauliflower and leeks in cheese sauce was delicious! Service was prompt but it was fairly quiet. Cost of a lime & soda was high compared to other pubs but house wine at £19.50 okay nowadays. Overall a lovely Sunday lunch.

Great place, went for a large get together and they have catering specials. Food was great. Staff was welcoming. Plenty of parking and space!

Ellie was an absolute delight on our visit to the bear. She was kind, professional, very respectable and made our stay comfortable. She made us feel very welcome and catered to our every need. She will go a long way in the industry. Food... Had the American menu and it did not disappoint, generous portions and wonderfully cooked. Hats off to the chef. All in all, the experience was brilliant, staff are nothing but polite and helpful and the value for money was very impressive. Only down fall on my experience is no Guinness on tap

Moved to Cawston, Rugby about 4 months ago and tried the Bear 🐻 pub for the first time. Decor is contemporary and fresh, service and food was FABULOUS! Mia was very attentive, food was nice and hot. We shared a chicken 🍗 wings starter with spicy buffalo dip, delicious 😋. Mains, Hubby had “All Day bfast” and quality was excellent 👍🏻. I had the Gammon Steak, which was delicious as well. Good portion size and no room left for dessert. Had a few drinks and a cheeky shot 🥰 Bar staff and Manager were very friendly as well. We will be back. K&C at table 31. Dog friendly as well and was nice to see the fur babies in the bar area xox Lovely, stress free meal and everything was perfect 😍

Brilliant pub, very clean and well kept, fantastic service. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the pub itself has a lovely feel to it and a good atmosphere they also have a lovely outdoor set up too.

We visit this pub every Tuesday for the pub quiz and play your cards right. It is a top night out full of friendly people and lots of laughs. The quiz gets your brain going and play your cards right is a nice bit of fun. Kev the quiz master is top, and he always makes it tasking and interesting. The pub is our go to venue, we often walk down any night of the week; the staff are welcoming, the other guests are friendly and the food is delicious. A top pub with a great looking future. I've been going to The Bear for quite a long time now, however since the latest team have taken over and revamped the place, it has become a lovely place to have a few drinks with friends and family, and they serve fantastic food with a very helpful and friendly service team who go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. The chicken and mushroom pie I had yesterday was amazing! The icing on the cake for me is that they are a very dog friendly pub. The dogs are looked after just as well as the humans!

Beers are nice, could do with a good clean in places . Coke was a little flat.

We really love coming to this pub, we enjoyed some dinner tonight but have regularly been visiting here over the past year.

I've been here previously with friends and I will continue to come back. Everything about the Bear screams "friendly, warm and inviting". All the staff were super supportive and very welcoming. Will definitely be coming back! Food was superb, and reasonably priced too!

Order roast beef dinner it was served on cold plate beef was tough as old boots definitely wasn’t very for money the food was not very hot

Very disappointed tonight with my meal I had fish and chips the batter on the fish was inedible it was soggy may have been microwaved not sure.no one asked if meal was ok I appreciate it was busy it being a Friday and the weather sunny. Bar too busy to queue up to say anything. This is a shame as previous visits here have been very good, so would not have the fish again .

Promptly greeted by friendly, helpful staff upon arrival. Comfortable dining area with pleasant decor. Good choice of "traditional" pub foods, with themed deals on various days which offer excellent value. Food was great, clearly having been freshly prepared. Portion sizes were just right, enough to satisfy without feeling over full and not leaving you wonder where the rest is. Two of our group had burgers, which came in lovely soft, fresh buns and had plenty of toppings. Overall everybody was very happy with what they had and we all agreed we would definitely come here again - which, arguably, tells you all you need to know.

Brilliant pub, family friendly (and dog friendly) great place for family meals and a night out with the boys / girls alike. Plenty going on with bands, quizzes, theme nights etc. They also do Cracking breakfast on a Saturday. Lovely places to sit inside and out. Clean and tidy all round pub. Worth a visit!

The pub has been refurbished and has a clean and fresh feel to it. Food was great. Vegan burger is highly recommended. Service is welcoming, with friendly and happy staff.

Such a shame, have been to this pub many times before and always had a great experience, however, after coming here to try the food was left extremely disappointed. £15 for a Sunday roast in which the food arrived luke warm, potatoes were reheated so very dry and one piece of tiny meat. Not only that, £18.49 for a steak in which was cold! Unfortunately would not be in a rush to come back and would no longer recommend to anyone in the area.

Wasn’t happy with the service, ordered food had to wait almost an hour for it. Had to ask 2 members of staff to find out anything about where our food was, when we eventually got our food it wasn’t all correct. Seated right next to the Live band which started an hour before the time stated and wasn’t warned about this, wasn’t a very nice/ welcoming environment

Tried the new Wednesday night, ‘Two pub classics for £20’. Lovely food and good atmosphere in the pub. Quite a few people in. Felt like a nice mid-week night off cooking!!

Fantastic local, welcoming atmosphere to all. Cup final weekend events an absolute testament to the ongoing updates the team at the Bear do to keep getting better. Great BBQ, great beer, topped off with brilliant, attentive staff - cannot ask for more from your local!

Ordered super plates x 2 chicken burger was average but edible Madras chicken curry meant to be Spersize and got the smallest microwaved horrible curry tinned version with rice which tasted horrible and smallest horrible nan with smallest onion bhaji and samosa. Tried one bite and had to send it back as it was horrible. Never again here. Staff were absolutely brilliant and very friendly and helpful and refunded for curry. By the way fish n chips is pollock fish the cheapest fish. Was really looking forward to eating here but never again. My wife had to eat her food with me just sitting and watching. Shame that such poor quality food is served with unmatched quality and freshness as everything is microwaved or re-fried. Hopefully others will have a better experience.

The atmosphere is great, the food is hot and fresh. The staff are great and they get the queue down quickly. Everybody is friendly and willing to help with any issues. Overall its a great pub to come to even with your dog! 🙂

Perfect if you are a regular. I was kept waiting at the bar, even though I was next in line, but of course, I wasn't a regular, and the locals were attended to first. When the food eventually came out and it was not really busy, it came out wrong. I believe it was the manager who brought the food out. He wasn't happy when I told him it was wrong. Maybe if he had spent less time talking to the locals on the table behind, he might have read the order and checked the food to see if it had been plated up correctly. (Having previously run a pub. This is not the correct way to run a business) We visited a while ago when the food was better and friendly staff. Very disappointing.

Great service and a warm friendly welcome for my team from work (around a dozen of us came for lunch) Great value. Food is tasty. The fries were a little underwhelming, but the rest of the food was delicious. Decent chips would raise it to 5 stars! Our team had burgers, chicken burgers, ceasar salad and fish and chips... all tasty and fresh.

We booked a table in advance for 6pm as we knew it would be a busy time. We waited an hour for our food, which was disappointing since we had young children with us, and we noticed a couple of other 2-3 person tables who ordered after us were served before us. The staff were professional and apologetic but the quality of the vegetarian curry I had was disappointing. Their burgers and chips range look much better but vegetarian options are limited.

This is the 3rd time I have visited at lunchtime for a meal, (December, February, March), and each time it has been so cold, no heating on at all. If you can't afford to put it on I suggest you don't open. Each time hardly anybody there so obviously it's not viable to heat the place. I doubt that we will visit again at lunchtime, which is a shame because food is good.
