The Bell Inn in Teignbridge

We were a party of seven people who visited this pub on New Year’s Eve, based on a recommendation. We live locally so thought we would give it a try. First minor problem was that the guest ales were “off” so the only ale left was Doom Bar – not the end of the world but poor management, given the day! Drinks and food were ordered from very pleasant bar staff. The drinks were varied but included one of a well-known white wine. The person who had requested that particular drink took one taste and declared it “was not nice”. I had a taste and agreed with her. Another member of our party who has extensive experience in the restaurant trade also agreed that it also had an unpleasant smell. In his opinion it was probably from an open bottle which had become contaminated. I said that I would get another drink for her and went back to the bar taking the offending wine. I ordered and paid for the replacement before saying to the server that I was not asking for a refund or replacement (I had just purchased the replacement) but the wine she had given me a few minutes before was “past its sell-by-date” and maybe she should discard the bottle. That is when the manager overheard and immediately intervened saying “if I didn’t like the taste that was my problem, I shouldn’t have ordered it!”. When I tried to point out again, I was not seeking a refund or replacement (I do not support customers who eat half a meal before complaining and / or refuse to pay – the trade has enough issues to cope with) the manager then said “there is nothing wrong with the wine (she didn’t attempt to smell or taste it) so there was nothing to discuss” as she walked away. Clearly in her world the customer is always wrong. These customers will not be returning which is a shame because the staff were very pleasant and the food, when we got it, was perfectly acceptable, hence the 2 stars.

Excellent food good choice friendly staff

Thank you all for a lovely meal on boxing day, we were a large family group arriving at short notice and the welcome was lovely , the food was beautifully cooked , and the service was very friendly, many thanks for saving our evening :)

Went in for a drink as a group of 7. Found a table but said reserved from 5pm. It was 3:30pm so we asked if we could have a drink for 30-40 mins which would have given them time to clear our glasses away and wipe the table but they said "sorry that's reserved and we have to keep the table as it is". Just not very welcoming, I felt.

Great experience and the manageress Karen is a pure delight and clearly steers a good ship. Well done .

We visited for a family get together that we try to do every Christmas and decided to take part in the quiz. Well, there was absolutely zero control. It’s like a zoo. Groups of what sounded like children, shouting and swearing throughout the whole quiz. We could barely hear the questions and no one seemed to be bothered. Would definitely not recommend the quiz night and based on our experience, unsure if I would even recommend the pub itself.

Nice date night meal, great service with the drinks flowing and the wood burner going strong.

Had a wonderful meal at The Bell - really wholesome food, relaxing and friendly atmosphere and we loved the new decor. Our server Erin did a great job! Would highly recommend.

I recently visited The Bell Inn and had an amazing experience thanks to one of the staff named Oscar. He was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit. He helped us pick out some fantastic options that perfectly matched our tastes. The atmosphere at The Bell Inn was lively, and Oscar contributed to that with his positive energy and great service. If you're heading there, be sure to look for Oscar—he really enhances the experience!

Staying at the nearby Premier Inn (15min walk) and walked over for an evening meal. The food was amazing! Melt in your mouth Beef Bourguignon and Brownie & Ice Cream was to die for. Staff were great and I'll definitely be back.

Went for Sunday lunch last week. 3 of us aged 54+ all said probably the best Sunday lunch we have ever had out. Honestly it was fantastic. Watch out other local establishments because once people know they won't come back to you. To The Bell Inn well done we are hard critics but yiu were

Had a take away trio Sunday lunch 1st Dec, £22.00, thought ok, must be good, wrong, frozen sprout and cauliflower cheese , dried out meats , well presented in foil container, only thing good about it was the gravy and roast potatoes. We often frequent The Hyde Dendy , owned by same company, totally different level of food and 2/3 the price, won’t bother again.

Cracking pub!! Food is great combined with a warm welcome by the friendly staff and locals. Stay at premier inn for work and would much rather eat my evening meal here and as a female staying away alone feel very comfortable in The Bell Inn. 5 stars from me all the way.

We had the BEST Sunday roast at the weekend! Lamb with all the trimmings was delicious! Staff looked after us! Great atmosphere! We will be back! 🤩

Superb food tonight. Away on business and needed a big meal! Chicken burger exceeded my expectations - Everything perfect (Burger, Salad, Chips, Slaw). Beer decent also. Would happily come back.

The surroundings from the moment you get in are lovely and homely. The staff are welcoming and friendly and very attentive. You don't feel rushed. The service was excellent and we visited for a roast. The selection of veg was amazing and portion size is generous. Loved the different flavours coming through with the veg. The meat and potatoes are well presented on the plate..with carrot and parsnip. Staff regularly checked we were OK. Really impressed with our first visit and can guarantee we will be making a return visit.

We called for Sunday lunch with family, the bar lady was very pleasant and its a nice cosy pub. Unfortunately the lunch was average, let down we all agreed by the food being over seasoned, very salty and I love salt, also I ordered belly pork with crackling - but there was no crackling, and no apology or offer of alternative, might sound petty but lets face it crackling is the main event... if they had said then I would have chosen differently! Shame really especially as its not exactly cheap for a pub lunch.

A very nice pub and staff. After the worst day at work of all time the food and Guinness were very good indeed. The beer is well looked after and plenty of choice for food including a specials board.

Good beer and meals and friendly service. Eight of us ate, fish and chips fine, steak excellent, shepherds pie very good. My Lancashire hotpot was disappointing. The lamb seemed to have leapt out as there was hardly any meat. The two others seemed to have fared a bit better, but reported the same comment. Perhaps Pauper's hotpot would have been a better name on the menu. The Salcombe Gold was in good form. Shame the only other beer on offer was the dreaded Doombar. Seven of us tucked in, the staff forgot about the fish and chips until we reminded them. It's a great pub, just needs to be tightened up a bit. Will we return? Absolutely.

New owners took over in the process of re- decorating, went to day service was excellent food great 👍 tated fantastic prices, not to bad, and also dog friendly update September 2024 they continued with the refurbishment looking great I think they tried to go really up market but felt it went to far I been there every month and must say they changed a few things now and it's now perfect for a good meal at a good price we'll done we tell everyone how good it is , only thing j do is bring jn a lu ch time menu but 10 out of 10

The food was good value for money although under new management, the menu has changed somewhat. The fish pie wasn’t available which was a shame as one of our party has planned on this all day. Service was pleasant and polite and we felt vey welcome Look forward to our next visit. Sticky toffee pud was great and my wife enjoyed her steak Plenty of parking at the rear Thanks and well done

Lovely pub, and greatly improved under the new management. My only criticism is the lack of veggie options on the menu. Would be amazing to see a regular veggie option under the burgers. Halloumi, or a veggie burger (There are so many good alternatives these days.) Some days you just don’t fancy a veggie curry and want something more chip based! Fab nut roast on a Sunday though!

Fantastic pub, friendly staff, very clean, tables cleaned efficiently and quickly, food was excellent had chicken supreme, wife had chicken & chorizo pie both meals were big portions and served quickly and both meals fantastic quality and pipping hot. Good prices too, would recommend and definitely return when in the area

First visit, certainly won't be the last. I had slow cooked belly pork which was melt in the mouth. Scrummy roasties,veg & gravy. Service first class and lovely atmosphere. My niece hag fish & chips which she said was delicious. Highly recommend

Firstly, do ignore reviews before April. Under exciting New Management who clearly understand how to run a public house. It has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated inside and out with fabulous new furniture, sanded floors and stylish paintwork. It has fantastic new menus and a very nice Wine List. Outside is decorated in new colours and wonderful hanging baskets adorn the walls which makes it a stunning village pub. One a the 'best' burger and chips ever and a very nice fish pie with excellent veg. This is very much dog friendly (and human friendly too). Superb, friendly and efficient staff. Drank too much wine, but it really was a wonderful evening and I highly recommend a visit.

My wife and I have been coming here for ages, with various different owners over the years. The recent revamp has really smartened the place up a lot. The food is always great - I can't decide if the fish pie or the belly pork is my favourite.

Just had Sunday lunch and could not fault it. Probably the best Sunday roast I’ve had in a long while. I went for beef and my partner the belly pork. Beef came with a large Yorkshire pudding and 4 large roast potatoes. Belly pork came with smaller Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, roasters and crispy crackling. Our vegetable side (of which we had one each) comprised of carrots, broccoli, red cabbage plus a dish to share of cauliflower cheese. The beef was plentiful and melted in the mouth. Vegetables hot and tasty. My partner said best pork he has ever had. Didn’t have to ask for extra gravy as there was a gravy boat too. The pub was clean and well set out. Service behind the bar and table service was excellent. Very welcoming hosts. If you are looking for a decent, tasty Sunday lunch at a reasonable price then this is the place to go. Will definitely be back.

What a disappointment, first ever visit, lovely looking pub, good parking, nice beer garden. Ordered chicken burger and beefburger. Chips with both were saturated with grease, when touched with a fork you could see the grease. Both burgers tasteless, chicken burger was thin piece of chicken with lots of extremely hard over cooked coating, also greasy. Beefburger was flavourless and not worth the money. Hardley any of the soggy lettuce on it. At £15 each expected much better, will not be returning!

It was a bit quiet when I went so not much atmosphere. A cocktail menu would really bring this place to the next level. Decent food AND cocktails? That's exactly what Kingsteignton is lacking at the moment.

Highly recommend this delightful hotel. Meals were well worth the price, and well presented.

This could have been a 5-star experience because the food was amazing and the beer delightful. However, my experience was soured by the bald barman when I was leaving. We parked during a reasonably busy time, and there weren't many bays free. The bays were a bit tight, and there were two near the pub. Unfortunately, one of these was blocked by picnic tables placed in front of the bays, making it inaccessible. I parked diagonally across both bays because parking in the only accessible bay would have prevented access to the final bay due to the tables. This also made it easier to open the doors and exit the vehicle. When I was ready to leave, I found that the barman had deliberately blocked me in, claiming he did so because of the way I parked, as if to make a point. This was incredibly petty and pathetic. I highly recommend removing the furniture from in front of the bays if you wish customers to park squarely to avoid upsetting customers with your passive-aggressive behaviour. It was really unnecessary.

We popped in for a last minute birthday meal and so glad we did! Food was exceptional, probably one of the best pub meals we’ve had. My wife (birthday girl) ordered a rump steak which she was more than happy with, and trust me, she’s a fussy eater! I had the Chicken Supreme and it was beautiful! I genuinely could’ve eaten it twice! Polished it off with a Choc brownie which was great also. My only slight criticism is that it is quite pricey but, having said that, you get what you pay for, I’d be extremely surprised if any of their diners leave hungry! Would go back in a heartbeat. Staff were very friendly and welcoming also.

Went in with the family for a nice peaceful evening meal however it was ruined by how management treated staff. I witnessed a male manager shouting at a young waitress over napkins she left the conversation looking clearly upset and I felt terrible for her she should not have been spoken to the way she had! I understand everyone has off days but this is not the only occasion I have witnessed management speaking to staff in such a disrespectful manner. I find it disgusting that an older man can justify speaking to young girls in this way. I believe higher management need to address this issue as it’s completely unfair and unacceptable for staff!

Enjoyed duck this evening. First meal there in recent weeks. Restaurant standard, excellent. Have been a regular for a couple of years, was worried about the new ownership. Needn't have. Excellent all round guys. Well done!

Stunning pub and warm welcoming staff. Visited the Bell Inn because of staying just around the corner from it. The food was amazing and a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere. Just had a fantastic roast beef dinner. So well presented and plenty of mixed vegetables. This was one of the best roasts myself and husband has eaten. Well recommend. . Friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Will definitely be returning.

The newly owned Bell Inn is fantastic! The service was brilliant from Wayne and the team; super helpful and attentive. The food - next level!!! The chicken burger was the best I’ve ever had and the portion was massive (yes, I did finish it all!!). The focaccia sandwiches were also a favourite. Can’t wait to return and try more of the menu!

Food was absolutely gorgeous, belly pork was 10/10, the service from Karen & Wayne was outstanding from start to finish. Very attentive asking if we needed top ups on our drinks & checking back to make sure our food was perfect. Will definitely be returning

The staff here struggle heroically against a tyrannical and petty management who treat their employees appallingly. I would not spend a single pound here out of principle in support of the people who get fired for no reason, and the awful working environment. A terrible place out of kilter with modern working practices.

We were a large pre booked party. Restaurant not that busy but 45 to 50 mins wait for food. Too long when you've got hungry kids to deal with. Lady at bar not conversant with till took ages to take order. Served other people drinks in between taking order. Overcharged initially as till hadn't been cleared down! Had to start again. When food did arrive it was lovely and in massive portions. I'm sure they would be disappointed with how things went for them. They apologised for delay saying it was because she had entered the wrong table number in the till on order. (Not sure what difference this would have made) To be fair at the very end they did offer free drinks by way of compensation but we were so full so not many takers.

Not at all great Lovely waitress food less than average, steak boring fish very small, chicken burger chewy. We have given this place several tries 80% have been we below expected for price.

Warning : Local pup. Been before. Quite used to the foul mouthed manager. Commented on the disgusting coffee service area covered in thick dust, coffee splatter and grime. Got barred by the foul mouthed manageres. If you can't serve hot what hope is there with cold. Recent issues with black detritus in the glass wash and the overall state of the place. I'm not sure the place deserves an audience, especially when the local pubs offer so much more, menu, manners and hygiene. Miserable clicky bar staff, wet sticky bar, bad language both sides and very disorganised. Kids at play. Regretful experience.

Good pub , food ,beer and staff

Love this pub, we go here all the time. The food is amazing. Always good quality, and also big portions which is a bonus. The staff are absolutely brilliant as well. If I had one gripe, it would be that their selection of alcohol is not great. Could do with more interesting wine and spirits. Having said that, it is a great atmosphere and I thoroughly enjoy visiting this pub. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a decent meal and a great atmosphere.

One of the best bistro pubs I've been to, after the chef died at "Old Timers" of Exeter had been looking for a replacement!. We ordered 2 pizzas and some dirty fries, large portions and good prices, £7 dirty fries could be considered a meal. As mentioned by a complaint, pizza so full of cheese and toppings they just slid off, lovely and what I like to see!. Really impressed will be bringing all the friends and family!.

So it’s Friday and we sometimes treat ourselves to lunch made by someone else, either for collection or delivery. We all had a burgers and were not disappointed. We had two French Canadians and a classic cheeseburger. Portions were huge and really tasty. Thank you chefs for our naughty lunch!

Had 2 lovely meals there until we chose 2 pies for £20 and they were awful , don’t pick them . The steak was nice , fish n chips & hunters chicken all lovely . Not much atmosphere but prices ok

A great casual night out. Service was great, especially Ruby, so polite and helpful. Food was lovely, in particular the French Canadian Burger, the bacon was delicious. Dog was welcome inside too, which was great. Well worth a visit 👍🌟

Went to the pub with friends last night and despite it being very busy a girl moved tables around to fit us all in which was much appreciated. The food was amazing with large portion sizes for a cheap price. The service was amazing and fast despite how busy it was. Me and my friends will definitely be going back.

Just had the most beautiful meal with the family. Just travelled from Essex and was hunting for a pub local to where we are staying that did proper home made grub. Food was so lovely and huge portion sizes! Kids loved there food also which can be tricky to please them both when out! Beer was lovely and lively to. Beautiful pub and paintings around the place. Really did enjoy ourselves. And am absolutely stuffed 😂 thank you guys 😁👍❤️🍺

Lovely place for a pint. The food is great, and they have a poker night on Wednesdays starting at 7:30pm. What more could you want. 🍻

We live local and know this place for its good food. On this occasion we went with our 3 children and had some pizza which was ok, however our trip was somewhat ruined by some young lads vaping inside. We brought this to the attention of the bar staff as our kids were beginning to complain of the smell and it was just dismissed, shortly after we saw one of the lads at the bar vaping and having a laugh with the staff, this explains why this was dismissed the first time as it was clear they were fine with this. As a family pub with good food we expected better as there is nothing worse than trying to enjoy a meal with the smell of cigarettes or vaping wafting in your faces. We have used this place for a number of staff do's and family functions over the years but after this we will be looking elsewhere as we do not enjoy eating with the smell of vaping in our faces nor do we want our children thinking this is acceptable behaviour. It's a shame they allow this to happen we were not the only people complaining there were a number of other tables that felt the same way. We all left without dessert as we couldn't stand it any longer.

Staying inthe area for 5 nights we were looking for a dog friendly pubthag served food. Well we hit a real winner with this one. Not only super friendly and welcoming to dogs, (we met so many new doggie friends) but the foodus honestly amazing. We never expected a local village pub to serve that level of food. We sampled over 3 nights, yes we went back 2x more it was so good, a range of their food. From the pies,which I can honestly say were the best pies I've tasted for many a year. Not only packed with filling, but the pastry was out of this world. Perfect.mash and peas accompanied, simply but super tasty withthe addition of onion crispy bits. Burgers that were sampled by others were all commented that they were moist and delicious. The bass dish was also excellent, the curry I had night 2 was one of the best I'd had for quite a while. Lots of filling and not the normal lots if sauce with little meat etc.rice with chilli extra was great. Anx dont think they could havd got larger popadoms. Husband said the hunters chicken was amazing too. Infact us having repeats of our first nights choice says it all really. Now the sweets. We had roulade ,sticky toffee and rocky road the first night. Very tasty. However after seeing the rocky road, we all had that the next 2x. Not only a genius idea to have in a jar, base was lovely and crumbly, cheesecake yummy, but best bit was the hunt for the maltesers. Cue loads of laughter and "why have I not found one?"" Oh wait. .here I go" Had we been staying longer we may have tried more of the menu, or just had those amazing pies again. Hopefully we will be back in area sometime and needless to say our first stop will be the Bell Inn. Thanks guys n girls for the great welcome, service and food.

It's got very expensive for the food. Even though the food is nice, they have put prices up and half the portion sizes, which is why I have to down rate the place. Its a nice clean tidy pub otherwise.

Food was amazing. The desserts where Brilliant, the puds in the jars are cheesecakes. We all had different burgers and each 5⭐️
