Nice food, no loud music etc so was easy to chat to people

Just had high tea and was very disappointed! My friend raved about this before we went as she had experienced it before but she felt the same! We started off with one slice of toast each then moved onto our main meal which was nice as usual. Then came the cakes and wow!! Had clearly been frozen then defrosted, scones were warm and soggy, like they had been microwaved, Viennese biscuit soft and tasted weird, didn’t try the others! Complained to the desk and staff seemed to be offended but took £4 off our meal! To add insult, when I got home I had a large tomato sauce looking stain on my trousers which had clearly come from the underside of the table as I had scampi with no sauce! For a place with such a good reputation it certainly let itself down tonight!

Easy to book! A family friendly restaurant with good pub grub! We went especially for the steak pie which was lovely. The service was fine and we couldn’t complain. Good value for money. Warm and comfortable and a really nice atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit! We could become regulars if we weren’t so far away.

Food was really good. We went early evening and we were amazed at how clean it was. Staff were attentive and friendly. Car park can do with a bit more lighting.

My family and I were recommended to the Birkhill Inn because of their famous Steak pie dinner. We were not disappointed. The meal was awesome but the service from Ross really stood out. Ross was a joy nothing was a bother and and looked after us with great care, thank you Ross for making our visit to the Birkie so much fun.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat. The food and service were nice and quick. Portion sizes were nice and big . Menu and style of the place has a bit of a 90s feel about it, but all in all, nothing to complain about .

A once loved family venue that has completely gone down the drain. First of all the staff are horrendous, a bunch of completely incompetent children, mannerless with all but a brain-cell between them. I didn’t see a smile on any of their faces but this is likely down to the poor management. Secondly, where to begin with the food, a menu straight out of the 90’s that literally could be from the frozen section of any budget supermarket. They are still riding the coattails of “their famous steak pie” which is bang average at best with the added addition of undercooked/raw pastry. Dessert was inedible. Be warned if you dare question the staff, they have no interest in resolving the issue but by being flat out rude and condescending. Won’t be back.

4 of us went for lunch and it was a mixed bag. 2 had the Xmas meal, 2 steak pie. Good portions and in general everything was ok except for the most disgusting Brussels sprouts we have ever tasted 🤢. The steak pie was OK but the pastry was a bit soggy. Overall ok but nothing to write home about

This wasn't our first visit to the Inn and it's not let us down so far. The staff are welcoming, well trained and efficient. You definitely cannot fault the service. However, I am in a powerchair and although getting into the Inn isn't an issue, using the facilities definitely is. Even if the door was rehung so it opened out with a slanted bar on the door, it'd make a huge difference. Getting onto the food; I've only once deviated from my choice of lentil soup and steak pie to try the burger which was great but I couldn't finish it. The portions are generous and if I'm going to be full up, no room for dessert, I'd rather stick to the lentil soup and steak pie. Always amazing. Thanks! We will return.

Great parking, food is ok… you can tell its designed to get lots of food out as quick as possible, not a bad thing though. Service is really good. But its pricey

I had lunch with a few friends today . I ordered the lasagne chips and salad . The lasagne was served in a desert bowl, and it was drowned in far too much cheese sauce , the sauce was far to thick , far to much cheese over the top , it resembled a bowl of thick custard . The lasagne it's self was ok , but ruined with that amount of cheese sauce. Sorry but that's the best I can say about the meal . 😔

Just popped in for a quick lunch after visiting Ninewells Hospital. Had the signature steak pie which didn't disappoint. The pie was a large corner piece with a huge slab of delicious pastry covering lovely tender pieces of steak. Served with lovely chips and some carrots, it's obvious why this dish has always been so popular. My other half opted for traditional fish and chips which again arrived freshly cooked and extremely hot. A large piece of haddock topped with a smaller piece both beautifully cooked and very fresh. This is a place where you can expect a consistent product produced over many years and we are yet to be disappointed.

Always friendly welcome and the food served hits the mark.

Food is outstanding perfect pub grub not that much off this around anymore.

Great parking and friendly staff. Food brought to the table within 5 minutes and 100% microwaved. Do not recommend and many better options at the price point. Overrated is an understatement.

I've been going here since I was a toddler, it's always been a staple restaurant in my growing up and it brings back numerous memories every single time I go, I can't be happier with this place. The food is top notch and never fails to warm my soul. Extremely good 100/10

Great family restaurant. Lentil soup was excellent. Haddock and chips were of a nice sized portion and served very hot. Service and staff were excellent. Restaurant was busy but we were seated straight away but we did not have a long wait to be served. Others had black pudding stuffed chicken and steak burger. Both again were nice sized portions, hot and very tasty.

Loads of parking. Large restaurant. Easy access. Seated quickly, although staff member seemed disinterested and didn't smile once. Ordered drinks, came fairly quickly. Ordered 2x macaroni cheese. Not sure what sauce they use or maybe the cheese used to make the sauce, but it had a horrible bitter taste to it, almost like a sick taste. Only ate a few forkfuls. Tomato ketchup couldn't even save it. Came with chips, they were ok, small pot of salad and 1 slice of thin garlic bread. For almost £15 each it was not worth the money at all. Nobody visited whilst we were eating to ask if everything was OK with our meal, bar staff whilst paying were also disinterested with no smiling. Gone are the days this was the place to go, we won't be back.

Popped into The Birkhill Inn as we were passing on our way to Dundee. I'm glad we did. Good choices on the menu. My partner had the sea food, and I had the steak pie. Both meals were substantial, I'm glad I didn't have a starter. The pie is a special of The Brkhill, I can see why. Lots of meat, pastry crispy, and the gravy was very tasty. My partner thoughroughly enjoyed the sea food selection too. A substantial plate, very tasteful. Staff excellent, very attentive but unobtrusive. Reasonable price for both meals with drinks Now I've found The Brkhill, I'll definitely be using it again.

The steak pie was excellent as was the sticky toffee pudding. Fish not great.

The "Famous Birkie Steak Pie" is a myth from the past. The £16.50 steak pie consisted of 4 tiny pieces of meat, gelatinous "gravy" and pastry, a far cry from the hey day of the legendary steak pie. This place used to be bulging at lunch times, we left about 1.30pm and the place was far from busy, the bar/lounge was empty, seems people have voted with their feet. This was not my choice of venue and in future it will be a hard no thanks, a sad situation. The staff were excellent and as I was with other family, I was not able to complain before the bill was paid. Recommendation would be to drive to the Station Hotel in Carnoustie, beautiful home made steak pie at £13.95, all home made, sadly the usual frozen chips but hey you can't have perfection for that price. I've been persuaded 3 times to give the Birkie another go, there won't be a 4th.

Not the cheapest place but worth the money. Steak pie is heavenly, macaroni is filling and lasagne tasty. Portions are not small.

Good plates and good option to stop and eat something in a cozy place during a car trip

The food was amazing, I opted for the famous steak pie which lived up to its name and my partner got the Mac n cheese which was delicious. Portions were huge and really good value for money. Only down side was we ordered dessert, waited almost 30 minutes and no wait staff approached us whilst we were waiting so we left and paid our bill. It turned out the waiter never took our dessert order to the kitchen.

So glad we stopped here for dinner while staying at piperdam the food was fantastic and so was the service we hadn’t booked in advance but we stopped in on our way back to the lodges and so glad we did i highly recommend the steak pie it was fantastic and the portion sizes were great 👍🏻 I would definitely recommend and i will definitely be returning.

Having been at the birkhill inn several times over the years we know that the food is always pretty good. We decided to visit again today. After our meal i decided to have a dessert which was the chocolate fudge cake and cream. Very much aware desserts have a good mark up on them (i worked in a hotel in the same company for a few years) and that they are mostly provided by brake bros. The price this time was £6.75. However when it arrived i needed a microscope to actually see it. It was tiny. Maybe 2 or 3 mouthfuls. It was almost like the slice had been sliced again and was so thin and small it looked pathetic on the big plate. The waitress said she would speak to the duty manager as she agreed it was tiny too. She came back saying he said it was a standard size and looked mortified for having to tell us. The duty manager didnt even have the manners to come over and tell us himself. At that point i said i would not have it and she took it away. I have had that dessert before and it was never that small. The mark up on it must have been at least 95%. When leaving the premises, we were delighted to see that the duty manager had not disappeared, but was laughing and chatting away to other customers. Pity he didn't actually do his job and speak to the customers who spoke very politely to the waitress about the problem they had had. Meanwhile anyone looking for a dessert at the birkhill inn, go and buy a cake elsewhere - more cake for less money. Or bring a microscope with you.

Easy to get to from Dundee and plenty of parking. The food was very good and I can recommend the fish and chips. The service was also excellent.

The Birkie used to a place I visited lots back in the early 2000s, because we were in the area I knew I had to take my parents and it did not disappoint. Although the staff have obviously changed over the years the food has not, the steak pie was every bit as good as I remembered it to be! Amazing food, fantastic service and good prices. Hopefully won't be leaving it another 20 years before I visit again.

Been here many times before and would have recommended to anyone. Sadly we were there the other night with friends we had recommended the place to. On entering we gave our names for the reservation and were greeted with a grunt and a " follow me" no smile no nothing. At the table we were left sitting until another waiter came and took our drinks order and left us the menus. Famous steak pies all round. What a mistake. You needed to be careful with the pasty and have private dental care as it was that hard and just chucked on the plate. We did make mention of this but this was simply ignored. When we are in Dundee we would always make a point of going to the Berkhill sadly that will not be happening again. Their website is also a bit confusing with varying prices. Real pity as it was one of our favourite places.

Had a lovely day with friends and we enjoyed really good food, will definitely be back again sometime soon 😊

Went out tonight for a birthday dinner with family, 2 steak pie, 2 fish n chips and a Mac cheese. Along with 2 kids meals. All food was pretty average, chips served with fish were luke warm and my wife said her steak pie was pretty tasteless. Waitress seemed to have left her smile at home as it certainly wasn’t on display. Choc pudding and ice cream at over £7 a serving was ridiculously small served with a tiny scoop of ice cream. Not impressed tbh and would not rush back… or recommend.

Had a lovely meal the other evening. We were staying at Piperdam which was a huge disappointment and going to this restaurant was actually the best part of our trip! Definitely eat here if you are staying in the area. Food was amazing and couldn't fault it. I would have given 5 star but service was slow for drinks and they got forgotten about when we ordered more so we were left without drinks whilst eating the meal. However the food arrived very fast. Otherwise it was great and we will definitely return if in the area.

Stopped in past for lunch with my daughter .This is where we have came for years when in the area .Couldn’t fault the food as usual.I had the steak pie and my daughter had the fish .Service was perfect.The only negative i would say is that the prices are a bit on the expensive side to what they used to be with most main courses around the £16 mark (where we live most mains are around £13).But the food was perfect and certainly won’t stop us coming back in the future

Had half portion of the salad (roast beef), and it was more than ample. I found roast beef to be slightly on the dry side but that is my personal opinion.

Great mid-week lunch in this busy pub restaurant. Delicious loaded potato skins with Chilli to share for our starter, followed by a fabulous Homemade Steak pie and generous Gammon with Eggs and chips. No room for pudding!!

Seems to have gone downhill! Food was pretty poor, service not great either. Waited for about 5 minutes to be seated and not a very nice welcome! Was more disappointed to have paid £110 for 4 average meals on Father's Day having driven from Glasgow.

Food was excellent. Service was excellent until it came to the desert where the waitress repeatedly asked if we were ready for dessert even though we said we weren't and would let her know when we were. Everything else was spot on.

This is possibly the best Restaurant in the Dundee area for lunch. We went there on fathers day and during the week after that in June 24. Food is fantastic, service very efficient and surroundings are very nice, cant ask for more.

The food was excellent, as always. For the most part, the service was also excellent, however, the waitress who was responsible for asking if we wanted desert was a bit pushy and kept coming back asking if we were ready to order even though we said we weren't ready. In the end we just ordered but it would have been nice to allow our main meal 10 or 15 minutes to go down.

Food was basic. Service shocking! Staff very young and inexperienced, didn't no what kinda deserts, couldn't tell if burger is homemade, was eating and told by staff I need to leave my meal and order drink at bar which was then told by other staff it is table service. Very poor service. Won't be back

Had steak pie , the pastry looked burnt and was hard , not fresh , the gravy wasn’t too my liking, frozen chips and under cooked veggies, the staff were nice though , took a photo but can’t seem to post it

Very disappointed... 1) I had caesar salad....but way way too spicy had to leave most of it 2) salad only had lettuce ,croutons, chicken and bacon...no eggs??? 3) worst bit...Option on menu said potatoes or chips... When chips arrived the non empathy of waiter Ross was poor...he never offered option..when I politely asked he sid ' I never said therefore default is chip's!' Never been to restaurant where don't offer customer the option..then blame customer! 4) Ross asked how meal was ( though daft question as I had half of it on plate)..I explained why I'd left it...not an ounce of sympathy or apology ! ( tbf the polite young lady behind the bar was sorry to hear and said would feed back to chef) Very disappointed as notcheap!

The best restaurant i have been to ! The staff are so welcoming and kind. 1 boy in particular is absolutely amazing. The food is always 10/10. i’ve never had a bad experience here. I recommend the steak pie as it’s lovely and will continue to dine here in the future!

Servers were great, food was amazing. However, the bar supervisor when we came to pay was extremely hostile, one of my family members had an extra drink on the bill which we didn’t have and when we asked for it to be taken off, the bar supervisor claimed he had ordered a double of this drink, which he hadn’t, and had said my family member had watched him make it, which is impossible since he went to the toilet. He argued with us, including a 16 year old girl…threatening to show us CCTV which he didn’t. Spent £170, as i said servers were amazing and the food was incredible but this left a bad taste in my mouth.

This place was very busy when we went in. The quality of food & service was excellent & we will be back.

I was there with my friends for my birthday. I wanted to order a seafood platter but also have breaded chicken nuggets, breaded cheese nuggets and chips. And they did that for me. The atmosphere is very pleasant both inside and outside. The staff is friendly. The food was prepared quickly even though the restaurant was full. I think only music is missing. At least there was no music outside. I like going there.

A massive thank you to Cheryl for organising a funeral tea very last minute and being extremely helpful. And to Ross and team on the day for looking after my family. The food and drink was exactly as advertised and fit the occasion perfectly.

First time visiting, the food was fantastic, on the bigger side portion wise, but worth it. The staff were fantastic! It was a busy Saturday, and they were polite, friendly and knowledgeable of their menu and drinks. Will definitely return next time we are in the area.

Went with friends for supper, local band playing, so was busier than usual. The band played a mix of Motown, some Noryhern soul,and a mix of other songs. Good food, steak pie looked delicious, I had chicken ceasar salad, slightly spicy, but good, notheless Wine was Zinfandel, but was only 9%, OK but not the best, will try different next time Reccomend for a lovely meal & night out Lots of parking space at rear, but I notice the signs it's getting work done next week (15/04/24),

Very Nice Restaurant in a very nice Space We have not been for a while but expected it still to be a very good place for a Lunch we were not disappointed everyone we came into contact with with were very friendly and welcoming so off to a good start Our meals were both very good Gammon with everything and A very Meaty Lasagne we could not complain about anything except maybe there was a lot on your plate ! It’s a very restaurant too lovely and clean With as I said earlier very nice staff We will return and take some pictures of the food Plenty of space for parties as well We might consider a large group of us sometime but we would phone them first as they are always pretty busy Situated along the road from Camperdown Park or come up Gordie Bray or from Muirhead Plenty of room for parking too My only comment would be maybe a few more disabled spaces A Top Class Restaurant with a young enthusiastic team

Booked the Birkhill Inn for my dad's 85th Birthday. Can't thank the staff enough for making it such a wonderful day. He had a great time. I don't expect it was the easiest for staff - a party of 16 over 2 tables including elderly, disabled and the odd fussy customer. The serving staff were outstanding, so respectful and patient. Nothing was too much trouble. Everyone loved the food - steak pie is still the best! Shout out in particular to the young staff - your care and attention to our party was fantastic. Thank you so much x

Busy place with excellent service. Food looks much better than it tastes. We found it a bit bland. Nonetheless I will probably go again and get some more condiments next time.

50p charged for hot milk with my coffee!! I have never been charged for hot milk anywhere else in Scotland. Shame on you the management at Birkhill Inn. Last time I'll be having a coffee at Birkhill Inn

Got some albino chicken nuggets for my little boy, the burger we got wasn’t nice and the chicken gojouns were ok. Won’t be back staff didn’t seem to care that we hardly eat what was on the plate had to tell them I wasn’t paying for the dishes.

We were greeted by a woman whose face would have cracked if she’d smiled! Led to a table and left with menus. Gave order. Fish dry and hard batter! Chips dry and not hot. Steak pie chucked on plate with gravy which there was no taste to. Pie crust abysmal, hard! I believe people go there because they can’t be bothered cooking….certainly not for the service nor the food. The Birkie used to be amazing selling the best steak pie but obviously a change of chef over the years. Would not recommend and won’t be back.

A solid local gem the food is top notch pub grub portion sizes on point, we were a party of 30 and the food arrived swiftly and without disappointment. I had the prawns which were good although the salad was undressed and could have been better, for the main I had a burger which was ok nothing amazing but enjoyable. The place is always busy so the atmosphere is as you would expect.

We had a lovely meal, we went for an early Mothers Day meal the food was excellent it was served piping hot and the portions were great. The service was excellent, from the moment we arrived we were looked after so well, the 2 girls serving us Kayden and Sophie were lovely nothing was too much trouble for them lovely girls. Can’t wait to go back…
