Absolutely delicious. One of the best Sunday lunches we've had. Good portions, lovely selection of veg. Shame we didn't have room for pudding as they looked amazing

Lovely old pub and food was amazing. The only reason I gave 4 stars for service was because we sat with dirty plates in front of us for more than 20mins....it's just a personal hate and probably wouldn't have bothered any 'normal' person 🤣🤣

We were looking for a place to meet up with friends as we were travelling down from Caistor and they were travelling up from Downham Market. Looked at a number of places in the area, which was about an hours drive for both parties, and took a chance on The Black Bull.....and glad we did. Warmly greeted on arrival and immediate impressions of the pub were very good. After putting in our drinks order we were left to decide on what we wanted to eat. Two had the lasagne, one the posh fish fingers and I had the Thai curry. All the food was really good, great portions and very tasty. I then followed it up with a lemon cheesecake which was excellent whilst the ladies had coffee which were served with a small bowl of maltesers......lovely touch. We will definitely visit again as it is really nice place and perfect for us to drive to......even if an hour away.......well worth the journey.

Came for a family meal. The food was excellent and we all enjoyed everything we had. Service was brilliant, and we were looked after exceptionally well. I highly recommend the ribs, they were very meaty. Desserts were also really good, the baileys cheesecake was delicious.

Food was the best we have had for a long time in a pub and plenty of it. I wasn’t keen on battered onion rings with sausage, mash and gravy. . Downside the food took 45 mins to arrive and there were only 2 tables booked . It does say on the menu they don’t serve fast food only try to get the food to you fast.

A gem. Wonderful friendly, patient staff. Food was excellent, ploughman's for one big enough to feed a small army, mushroom stroganoff was delicious, chicken burger excellent. Best onion rings we have had for a long time, so big, so may and so soft and tasty. Didn't have the afternoon tea, but will be back to try as it looked amazing.

Great food and service one of my favourite places to eat 😋

5 of us met here for Sunday lunch. They have 2 course for 21.95 and 3 courses for 24.95. Good selection of starters mains and puddings. There was a choice of beef, pork, and lamb and a vegan sausage. A large selection of vegetables come to the table for yourself to serve. We had Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes braised red cabbage,roast potatoes, carrots, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower cheese. Everything was cooked to perfection. Very generous portions and lots of gravy and condiments. After a starter and a main none of us had room for dessert. Highly recommend!

It was the first time visiting with my friends for afternoon tea? On stepping into the pub was a warm welcoming fire just perfect on a cold day. The staff were very friendly and professional. We were asked to go to our table and wow, the afternoon tea looked amazing. The sandwiches were bursting with fillings, moist and delicious. The cakes were all home-made and the best ever. I have never had such a mouth watering selection. One of my friends had the savoury choice. The scotch egg and the sausage roll were still warm. I still can’t get over the size of the sausage roll. I sampled them as well and they were scrumptious. The staff regularly asked if everything was okay and kept us topped up with more tea. By the way, the peppermint tea in my opinion is one of the best. We could not finish all of the delights on offer so we all had a doggy bag. A lot of care thought and attention to detail had gone into making our afternoon teas and experience to remember. I highly recommend the Black Bull at Donnington.

We have experienced breakfast, evening meal and today Sunday Lunch... all exceptional. The staff are amazing and really make the experience all the better too, the food is on point also. Thank you Abi in particular for your patience and fun, especially when it came to our coffee's (you had to be there!). We will return!!

1st visit today absolutely brilliant place fantastic food and lovely staff

Some of the best cooked food I've had. The batter on the fish is incredible. The staff are super friendly. All round fantastic place and can see us returning on numurous occasions.

Just stopped in for a drink while driving home. Pleasant staff served drinks at the bar. Clean and bright sitting area.

The food was excellent and plenty of it. My friend, who made the observation that there was enough for two, and I both had paninis. The staff were friendly. There is a large carpark at the rear the building through an arch. It was a quiet lunchtime. There were no children, but they are allowed to visit until late in the evening.

We’ve had several evening meals here and a couple of lunch times too. The food has always been 1st class, and the servers have always been professional and friendly. The pub is usually busy but this doesn’t affect the overall experience. We shall return there when the next occasion requires a special meal out.

Really great food, staff could not have been better, and the atmosphere really good too. I had the Sea Bass which was delicious. Between us we also tried the ham hock tart starter, very good and generous portion. The pork steaks, a sizzler dish, a burger and then the blackberry bakewell and a 3 scoop ice cream dessert. Everything exceeded expectation, we can see this becoming a regular for us. Also, a really nice drinking pub as well, with a great atmosphere in the bar area.

We went here for a romantic meal. Unfortunately we were unimpressed! Firstly there is a doorbell in the restaurant that the impatient chef rings every time he has a dish ready, the problem is firstly it’s on full volume (very loud) and secondly he is so impatient he rings it multiple times, so if you can picture this, your holding hands over the table drinking a nice glass of wine and waiting for your starter to arrive, your trying to have a conversation and “DING DONG - DING DONG- DING DONG” why the management think this is acceptable I don’t understand. Unfortunately it gets worse because there is a very loud phone in the same area, this can continually ring, if the serving staff are busy they don’t answer it “RING RING - RING RING - RING RING” so loud it really spoils the atmosphere. Then you get a double whammy “DING DONG - DING DONG - RING RING - RING RING - DING DONG - RING RING - DING RING - RING DONG” I’m sure you get the picture. So if you want a romantic meal I would avoid this pub until they sort these issues, perhaps a old fashioned bell that the impatient chef rings ONCE, and stick the phone somewhere else (in a noisy bar perhaps). We drove a long way to come here for a special occasion and we were very disappointed with the noisy doorbell and phone CONTINUALLY RINGING. Come on management SORT IT OUT.

Lovely pub, and serves a lovely pint of Guinness

Staff and service inside pub very good. However, we decided to eat outside. The kitchen doors which lead on to a courtyard where we were sat were open. whilst waiting to order our food and Whilst our food was cooking. we spent best part of the time listening to the chef swearing through his conversation with other staff and in and out of the kitchen smoking, all very off-putting. Sadly, after waiting patiently for our food to cook I expected my food to come out hot, this was not the case. My food came out luke warm

Anniversary banners were put behind our table. Petals and love hearts scattered over our table. The food was freshly cooked to order and was delicious. Sadly, we had no room left for deserts. As we were leaving, we were presented with a miniature bottle of Prosecco. Our waitress was friendly and polite. We will definitely recommend it to our friends and will be back in the future.

The atmosphere and setting of this restaurant is luxurious. Service was attentive. It was steak night (31st May) and we only realised when we arrived. I thought this should be good as they do this at the end of each month. Anyway I and my friend ordered our steak medium to well and it came over well done. It was so dry I couldn’t even swallow it. Worst meal I have had for a very very long time. It was my fault as I didn’t send it back. The chips were good and the starters were amazing. Recommend the asparagus in breadcrumbs. My other friend is a vegetarian and fortunately they had one veg dish on their menu.

Went in for afternoon tea, there was 4 of us so we had 2 savory and 2 sweet afternoon tea's. The food was all hand prepared and cooked fresh and tasted amazing, my favourite was the homemade scotch egg and cheese scones as I do like savory food, I would highly recommend this for anyone as was the best I have had. The pub has a very nice feel to it with traditional bar and then a restaurant and a cosy part where we sat to have our afternoon tea. Lovely friendly staff and very good price for what you get. 10 out of 10 from me

We needed a break on our journey from the Midlands to Wells-next-the-sea and chose this place. We are so glad we did, a warm welcome, great service, really delicious food and so very reasonable. Easy free parking too. Thank you. We’ll be back!

Went for afternoon tea to celebrate a friend's hen do. I can highly recommended it. I had the sweet option with lots of yummy desserts, plus some sandwiches and crisps. If you can't eat it all, don't worry, boxes are provided for you to take them home. Nothing too much trouble, excellent service, will definitely be returning...but be warned they do get booked up months in advance so you need to book

We chose the Black Bull as a meet half way location. Family had travelled from Derby, Oxford, Cromer and Tenerife (bit more than half way) From the moment we arrived our special gathering was enhanced by the Landlord, the Staff and the friendly chatty chef. A huge thank you to you all, it was a wonderful day.

Had an evening main course. It was really good, pleasant service and reasonable price. Will definitely return.

The service, the food, the waitresses all excellent. The food menu is so varied it would please anyone. Nothing was too much trouble. You must give it a try.

We had such good service and food at the Black Bull, Donington, last night( April 20th 2024)We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and the staff couldn't have been more friendly or welcoming, making our night out even more special, with a few extra special touches to our seating area. The food was perfectly cooked, presented and delicious..we couldn't have asked for more.

Very slow service food ok but unremarkable had a lot better for a lot less, very poor vegetarian menu

I was so impressed with absolutely every thing when I first went to this restaurant, I really wanted to leave a review, but I just never got around to it. We went for the second time today for an afternoon tea. Again, The service and attention to detail was on point from start to finish. The servers we all so polite and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The table lay out was gorgeous and very inviting. The tables were quite big meaning we felt like we had loads of space and were not too close to other customers. Every single thing we ate tasted amazing. The coffee was delicious and I absolutely love that they give you maltesers with them! They had even left take away boxes on our table which I thought was a lovely touch because for some a lot of food can be overwhelming but if they see the take away box they know that they can take what the can't manage home and not feel embarrassed to ask. We actually all used ours, it's was a very generous portion of food. The first time we visited we shared the fish platter, it was something I have not seen offered else where so, was a no brainer. I can't believe they are actually able to offer so much for such a small price. It's was £32 for us both but we got so much fish! We were stuffed and really didn't need desert but I decided sorbet would slide down. My father in law had asked the staff to bring candles in my dessert for my belated birthday treat. They said they would happily and came out signing happy birthday, I was even given a complementary shot. I wish I lived closer to this pub we would go all the time. We will 100% be back! It's not often now you go for food and can not think of one complaint. Two visits now and there's no improvement feedback I could give they have thought of everything!

Lovely traditional pub with great food 🥘

What a great place, everything brilliant from the warm welcome to the really tasty food. I chose the Turkey Curry from the 'Specials Board', soo tasty!! We all had different dishes, but everyone had same opinion of how good the food was and the coffee was lovely too. Staff were really open and friendly, nothing too much trouble, would definitely recommend and will go again with friends. Looking forward to an afternoon tea next month.

Gorgeous little restaurant set to the side of the pub so you’re not in with the drinkers. The team were so friendly and welcoming and really knowledgable about their products. Special shout out to Charlotte and Gita who really made our evening ❤️ Food was absolutely amazing - transforming a usually sad 70s menu throwback of garlic mushrooms to just another level: so, SO good. The scallops with chorizo was equally divine. We knew from the starters that the mains would be special but we were absolutely blown away by the beef short rib and the sirloin steak. Can’t wait to be back!

Food tasted great, nice atmosphere, really friendly staff, only down side was the long delay for the food to arrive. Over 30 minutes after taking the order they came back to say sorry that was not available and had to choose something else.

I was a touch grumpy as I had a long day at work, however the staff and atmosphere were simply welcoming ,warm cosy and very festive. The food was more of an work of art. Left feeling very happy and at ease. Hope to visit again. Thank you for an majestic evening.

We met with family here as it was about halfway. Really good food, plenty of choice. Especially liked the tea for one. Friendly and helpful staff, star of the show was Charlotte great at her job. If it wasn't 210 miles from home, we would definitely be regulars. Recommended, 5* all the way.

Haven't eaten in this place hence the lack of food rating but the restaurant looks cosy, the beers are kept well & bar service is reasonably fast & welcoming. And despite being a little off the beaten track, the locals don't bite !!!.

I went for a baby shower here today and I was seriously impressed. Pub was beautiful, staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, service was excellent and the food was perfection. I’ve already told my partner I will be dragging him here for the beautiful afternoon tea.

Love this place, disappointed couldn't book a table in June, wanted my 84 year old father who is visiting to experience the food has I have been raving about it to him, never mind every chef deserves a holiday. Next time!
