The Bungo Bar and Kitchen in Glasgow City

I have popped into the bungo a few times because they allow dogs. The service is good and the staff are lovely. The food is very hit or miss. I have done ok there in the past but i can't go back now. Whatever you do, do not order the Balinese nasi goreng. It looks 50% like nasi goreng but once you try it, you will want to try something else instead. I have eaten hundreds of them as I was a merchant seaman in the far east for years. If the Bungo's Nasi Goreng was served out there they would throw it back, shout at you and insist that the chef was replaced. I rarely write bad reviews about food, unless it is very bad. I would say I have eaten 4-5 times there and the menu is also exhausted now. There are 1-2-3 things that appeal on the menu which is far too small. It seriously needs changed and quickly.

Beers and that. Ageing hipsters and that.

We booked out the function suite for my daughter's birthday last night. Every staff member we dealt with were absolutely brilliant. Friendly, professional and kind. Just a lovely bunch of people who made us feel really welcome.

Went here for Christmas lunch. It was really quiet but the service was slow, food took ages to arrive. We were told the food would take longer “because it’s a Monday and the chef is doing prep” The starters were great to be fair, but the main courses were poor. Things missing, things overcooked, the roast tatties were rock hard - felt like they were precooked and reheated. Overall it was really disappointing and we won’t be back. From the service to the food, there was a lack of care and attention.

Love this place, great food with a lovely atmosphere. Staff friendly and attentive. Dogs allowed in which is a bonus. Would definitely recommend the Bungo for a bite to eat.

Really enjoyed lunch here today. Friendly, welcoming and very reasonably priced. The tempura cauliflower was a joy!

Uther food generally was good but my dish, the trout, arrived 30 minutes later than everyone else's dishes. It was cold and so overdone when it arrived. The manager apologised and removed it from the bill. While the rest of the food was lovely, this was overal,l not a good experience

Decided to visit the Bungo for the first time, not sure why I've not been before but my family are across the west, east and south of Glasgow so meeting in town is always easier. We booked a table for 2pm and were warmly welcomed, my first impressions were great, good staff, relaxed atmosphere and well laid out. The menu is pretty cool, the brunch selection was available until 4pm before the menu changes to a more grown up version but the selection of food was impressive. We decided to order from the brunch rather than the main bar menu but to be honest I could have ordered pretty much anything from either one, I was planning on having the Mexican hash but my other family members selfishly decided they were both having that so in the interest of diversity I ordered the full breakfast as it promised home made sausage. I've had a lot of food in Glasgow and this is right at the top in my opinion for this kind of meal out. Everything on the plate was perfect, the portion was great, the service amazing and the price very reasonable. I'll definitely be going back soon, there are some super interesting dishes to sample, my brother definitely will be going back for the waffles with kimchi but they weren't available today. Can't fault it at all, expect to spend about £15-£20 per head for food which given what you get is exceptional. Apparently the Mexican hash was amazing which is quite annoying but I was very happy regardless.

Food is lovely. We tried the full brekkie and the daal with eggs. Also the bhurji. All were very flavoursome. Food came to us within a reasonable time. Service is good. Once we went in with a pram and the waiter said tonis oh it's raining and suddenly there's a lot of people come in. You are more than welcome to come in but I'd be going from one end to another and it'll take ages. Maybe he was being super honest and if he was the only one working, with more than anticipated numbers coming in, but considering a lot of tables were still empty it felt like he didn't want any more people so that was a bit weird but every other time we have been in the service has been ok. Overall I think it's a nice little place to go for a wee brunch and for nice food.

First time in looked like a great vibe, very busy. Sadly that’s were the good vibes stopped. Girls at the bar working flat out clearly understaffed. Waiting an hr for poor quality, poorly presented food, rubbish service from floor staff. Won’t be back.

Sadly it feels like The Bungo has really gone downhill. Food was okay but the staff and therefore atmosphere was fraught. We came for brunch on a Saturday so the place was pretty busy but honestly I felt like an inconvenience. The waiting staff made more than one snide remark which were totally unnecessary. I had been months ago and also felt the staff were disinterested and almost had their back up before we even sat down. My friend agreed she had also felt this way on a previous visit. I have no idea what the issue is but I'll not be back to find out if there has been any improvement. Really disappointing.

Went here a long time back with the then g/f now wife. Brunch menu was fantastic. Returned last week for a few drinks before a dinner reservation. Wife had a margarita cocktail (pricey but very good). I had an alcohol free pint, summit saint. Quick service although staff seemed a bit stressed (it happens to all of us). Our waiter seemed pleasant and was attentive if slightly in a hurry. Good atmosphere, busy and chatty folk. All round good evening.

Went for a party to the downstairs venue which was great, simple but good atmosphere and good service. Went to the upstairs bar to get some specialty drinks and they were fantastic. Had the B-Old fashioned was great

Great place, good for adults, dogs and children.

Food was okay, but not quite as advertised. When ordering Balinese fried rice we were not expecting coriander in the dish, as the leaf is not someting that is used in Indonesian cooking. Only the seed is used as a general rule.

Food was good but spoilt for me when an Italian pasta dish had chili in - not mentioned on the menu!

See if you can spot the mould on the pita bread before I did. The shakshuka was not very nice to be honest, bland with really undercooked eggs. My friend had the Mexican hash and really enjoyed it to be fair but overall this was such a disappointing experience. Been wanting to come here for years, will not be back.

Great little place to grab a drink and a bite to eat. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and a varied menu ensuring there's something for everyone. Perfect place for a working lunch.

Nice breakfast if may be a little bit too expensive

Two stars only because of the friendly staff and the cocktails, as unfortunately the food made us sick. The batter on the Korean cauliflower was still raw in the middle and tasted floury, and found raw chicken in the nasi goreng but only after eating most of it - hence the poisoning. Tacos are way too expensive for what you get and should be a small plate - they were also covered in the raw chilli flake dust or whatever that stuff was, which meant it was hot but with little flavour. Daal was terrible.

Lovely city brunch catch up with friends. Service friendly food amazing and reasonable prices. Would recommend a visit if your in this part of the city

Been going for years but haven’t been for a few months and unfortunately a disappointment. The chips with the child’s meal we ordered were very undercooked and this was pointed out when asked how everything was going. The staff member did apologise and offer to make new ones but we were well into the meal so we declined. It would have been nice to have perhaps been offered a small discount but alas no. Additionally, the French toast, (which was good) is overpriced for what you get. All in all a very mediocre experience today.

Came here while visiting Glasgow and staying at a local Airbnb. Vibrant atmosphere, very good food and friendly staff.

Fantastic service, really friendly staff. We had the broccoli and burrata salad which was delicious and a good portion. The spicy margarita was great too.

Walked the dog in Queens Park and went to The Bungo for dinner. Great dog friendly place to eat with relaxed atmosphere and lovely staff. I had the fish and chips which were delicious and my wife and daughter thoroughly enjoyed their choice of food.

First time in the Bungo for lunch. Really nice menu, nice staff and a great atmosphere. Food was fantastic, I had the Daal baked eggs which was delicious. I'll be back 😁

Went in to grab a bite to eat and drink before heading for an appointment. I got the Kimchi chicken and waffles with a passion fruit sparkling water drink. It was delicious. Was struggling what to get as it all sounded good so I'll definitely go back to try something else

Manager told us its too busy to sit at the bar for a pint...due to staffing issues. On a Saturday. Kind of a joke, it's 6pm on a weekend. Of course it's busy. But 2 pints is not the hardest order. With empty tables in the bar area. Pathetic and a joke. Especially when they want to sell the venue for 1 mil 🤣 it's also been robbed 3 times +

Staff friendly and very helpful. Food amazing with so much taste and with wonderful mix of flavours. Great selection of gluten free for my coeliac wife. Very relaxing meal and our grandaughters enjoyed their kids meals as well! We will return

Went for family lunch and we felt we were burdening the staff with requests . I understand that the restaurant was busy but we just didn't feel very welcomed :(

Nice place lots of choices for drinks and not that ££. Staff were fine but a little miserable. I wouldn’t say this is the best place to come for drinks as it feels a little more food based in my opinion.

Been 3 times. Food, service and place is lovely. Toilets, however -very bad, dirty with a puddle forming on a blocked floor drain in the middle of the gents (all three times)

I can’t thank you all enough, David was so accommodating with all my questions on the run up to the event, and the bar staff Lloyd and Gigi were such a delight. We found the venue hire to be such good value and we enjoyed the selection of drinks available at our private bar. Sound system and projector screen availability was idea too. Everybody had an absolute blast. I have enjoyed The Bungo for food, drinks and coffee a lot in the past but this was our first event at The Bungo-lo and it didn’t disappoint! Would definitely recommend booking a private function here, we definitely would book it again (if you’ll have us!)

Always enjoy eating in the Bungo, the staff are professional, friendly and fun. I took a couple of friends who had never been before they loved the menu, I had the Mexican hash, to die for it is that good. I would recommend the Bungo for anyone looking for great food at a reasonable price in a relaxed atmosphere . Thanks to the staff and chef for an enjoyable time, I will be back along with my friends.

Unfortunately Bungo hasn’t stood the test of time. The food just isn’t consistent. Poached eggs over cooked with that vinegar flavour from the water. A number of poached eggs dishes on the menu so really should be getting that one right. There is an overwhelming smell of dirty mop water when entering in the morning so it doesn’t feel very clean. Just isn’t keeping up with the local competition which is a real shame for such a long standing pub.

We reserved some space to gather with friends to celebrate our daughters 1st birthday. The manager was incredibly accomodating and attentive as always. I have always noted on previous visits how well run and hospitable The Bungo is and this occasion was no exception. Food is consistently good, atmosphere is lovely and staff are attentive and professional. I have enjoyed going there in the past for dates, nights out with friends, and now with family. It caters for all well and we are so pleased to have this as our neighbourhood bar.

Have been to the Bungo a couple of times for food in the past and found the it so-so but not much bang for the buck. Popped in this month for a monthly event held there and felt a general unease about the place, female bar member was rude and obnoxious and on a second trip to the bar we were charged £4.50 for a pint of Coke!! The tumbler was filled with ice so was probably a half pint in there, rip off city! No chance of being back in over the summer after this double dose, much better atmospheres elsewhere in the surrounding area.

Great food second attempt to eat here, first time we had just been given drinks and they discovered a problem with the gas, they gave us our drink free only half pint of beer and water but nice gesture.

Arrived at 5pm on Satuday 24th Feb for an early dinner before the Strathbungo WindowsFestival with a friend. The staff were very attentive making us feel at home. The food was great and came promptly. We had starters of cauliflower and satay chicken both delicious. For mains we chose the chicken burger and chicken tortillas. Again spot on. The staff kept checking if we wanted more drinks without being pushy. We were both drinking the Joker IPA which was in great condition so it was hard to refuse. The Bungo is obviously a very well run establishment we would highly recommend and are looking forward to another visit soon. Thanks to the staff for looking after us so well. I live locally and fairly regularly pop into the Bungo for drinks. Have eaten here a few times over the years and alway enjoyed ( the Bungo take on Christmas dinner is a winner every year!!!) was very nearly put off having dinner here tonight after reading recent reviews. So glad we didn’t change our plans. Dinner was fab. Service great too. Always think the Bungo has a great laid back but welcoming atmosphere and the food is super tasty. Will keep coming back! Really disappointed in this place, reviews do not reflect the restaurant at all. I would not recommend it. Food was overpriced and not good. I ordered a dish which was not advertised as having an egg on it on the menu and there was a semi cooked egg on top. I did not want to make a fuss in front of friends but i really dont like eggs so had to eat round it. The chapati on the side was so hard and burnt i could not eat it. Everything was lukewarm. Waitress very unfriendly. Child we had with us dropped some food on the floor and i noticed the floor under our table was dirty and covererd in dog hairs. Toilets were not very clean either. Will definitely not be going back.

Lovely 1st experience, food was lovely ,staff polite and professional

Requested a window seat and was given it which was the best part of my whole experience. After ten minutes I had to request a drink and food order which also took a long time. The food was over priced and my singular poached egg on my breakfast was rock solid in the middle. No check back on food mid meal and when I raised the complaint about the food while paying my bill the server laughed it off and said ‘people send back the eggs all the time haha!’ Also had to go up to the bar to request the bill and then request the card machine. 2 words: won’t be back

The Bungo used to be a great place to eat south side in Glasgow, where you were always guaranteed good food and attentive service. Sadly neither were our recent experience - staff who really don’t care… plus food which was tasteless. (The batter was so heavy. ) Bungo needs to up its game with all the local competition now… it’s a nice place and great location. Come on Bungo you can do better …

My daughter and I had a lovely meal on Tuesday night. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly (tall guy with long hair tied back, sorry didn't get his name). The food was delicious. Loved the Vegan and Gluten Free menus! Definitely be back soon. Thanks again.

Did not make a reservation. But the staff was so helpfull and so friendly. Gave us tables. The food was delicious and having a pint of non alcoholic beer was brilliant as was doing the driving. Had a gr8 time.

I came here for the first time with my wife and I liked the atmosphere. Food was tasty and that's where all the good points ended. The service was slow and lacking. It took about 20-25 mins for our food to arrive. No other customer had food served prior to us so this couldn't have been the delay. As I got my food I asked for a pint and about 10-15 mins later I finished my meal and still no sign of my pint. The server apologized and said she's been really busy, so it seems that my drink order was never provided to the bar. It was a let down that was an otherwise nice time out. Would I go again? Maybe, but the service would make me think twice.

Always a great place to go for a few drinks or a bite to eat. Friendly place with good service. Decent wines and nit too expensive. Would definitely recommend meeting your friends here for a few drinks or a nice meal.

BEWARE Coeliacs I ordered french toast from the Gluten free Menu. It arrived and i commented how it tasted very nice for GF bread and the server said ‘what you ordered Gf bread?’ i said ‘yes, you took my order from the gf menu’ She said she would check. The owner came out and apologised that they had an order for ordinary bread. Didn’t help me as i was throwing up in their bathroom and was ill for the rest of the day. Was refunded for my french toast. Big deal. Had a terrible experience and my partner paid for their food. Won’t be back. Careless and it wasn’t even busy! Avoid!

Was at the comedy night, great venue, efficient and friendly staff. Will go for a meal next time.

Oh I just love going to The Bungo! Food is amazing. Malaysian Chicken is the most amazing meal I have had. Great that it is dog friendly, my big lump of a bulldog is allowed on seat with her blanket, gets her water and staff and customers pamper her Staff cannot do enough for you And all completely on one lever so totally wheelchair accessible! Street parking easy and generally find a space. Cannot wait to return

I cannot speak highly enough of the food here. An eclectic Bruch menu was not let down by the food when it finally arrived! Generous, delicious portions served with a smile. We will definitely be back.

There were seven of us on Saturday and everybody had a great meal. A little difficult to get a hold of the waiters sometimes, but it was very busy great atmosphere and great setting. Would definitely keep going back

La comida muy rica, variada. Quizás demasiado picante para nuestro gusto. Pregúntanos y nos indicaron que era mild, pero más bien sería strong. Éramos 6 personas y la mesa era pequeña para todos y toda la comida. Tocaba quiz night y no avisaron que así sería a quién reservó y fue una cena ruidosa hasta que acabó. Cuando acabó mejoró mucho.

Pues excelente. Para empezar un buen trato por parte de todo el personal, además de que me atendieron muy rápido y bien. La comida me gustó mucho. Simplemente deliciosa. El precio está muy bien para una calidad tan buena. Tienen variedad de cervezas y licores. Uno de mis sitios favoritos desde entonces. El cheesecake me enamoró.

Bit overpriced but a lovely wee bar.

Accommodated a last minute reservation for 5 people on Friday evening. A lovely menu with excellent gluten free options the Nasi goreng was an excellent choice and thoroughly enjoyed it. All of the party enjoyed the food and the bill was reasonable. Good atmosphere attentive staff . Will definitely return.

Awesome food. Best chicken satay I’ve ever tasted but the rest of the small plates were really really tasty and a lovely Pinot to wash it all down. Great friendly staff too. Highly recommend.

Comedy night at The Bungo. Cracking comics

One of my favourite places in Glasgow southside for food! Always have a great time!

The food was good, however the service was awful with rude staff who wouldn’t even split a bill then we found out the reason extra £30 on top. The food is excellent especially the shashuka. However a lot of staff training needed on customer care.

Crisy tofu dish and wonton dish are so nice. Give it a try

Missus went to the bar with my card bought two beers. Lad behind the bar takes it from her and taps without confirming amount. Charged £19.90 for two corona, just as well my payment notifications are turned on……. Don’t let pushy barmen take your card. RESPONSE: Nope felt appropriate 1 star on service. Pretty big deal (to me) Shouldn’t take peoples cards from them and tap yourself IMO. Looks bad making excuses for poor service habits, how many others have been maybe overcharged?

Mains were quite tasty and staff were friendly but The Bungo missed lots details I expect a good restaurant to nail. Food took much longer to bring out than server said and some were almost cold, kitchen didn't tell server they were out of sauce for fish and chips and didn't offer a sub, quality of puddings was much lower than mains. Then after we paid our server, we stood to leave unhurriedly and someone dashed over to make sure we had paid.

Everything was good, nice atmosphere etc - but the food was excellent. I had a nasi goreng dish which was maybe the tastiest thing I have ever tasted, apart from my mum's mince.

This was not a good experience from start to finish. A pint of craft beer and a glass of wine were constantly plagued by numerous small beer flies. A sign of an unclean bar or cellar area. For food we ordered a starter of Arancini (£8.50), very small and over cooked along with a main course Karaage Chicken Burger (£15.50). We were told that there were no burger buns but that this could be replaced with a morning roll. We declined the roll and decided to go without - no discount was offered. The two small pieces of chicken were gooey in places and it wasn't entirely clear what part of the bird they were from. At least the salad was fresh. Not worth the money.

Excellent food and fog friendly place

Definitely do not go here if you don't have a pet hipster in tow. We arrived and got seated at the very back in crapmed corner table even though there where tables available at front of bar,no biggy. Problem is when both of you are on crutches it helps not having to manoeuvre through the place. Anyway got seated given menus along with the list of what's not available then along comes a carafe of water while he takes drinks order,that arrived fairly promptly. So we looked and decided our order, and waited and waited some more,after being there 20 minutes we decided to leave as I think they had forgotten about us being tucked away in the corner. As we where on our way to pay for drinks before leaving the waiter said we didn't have to pay for drinks, reinforcing my thought of being forgotten about but I paid for them before leaving 2 large pepsi that where more ice than pepsi £9.20 ,it didn't even have tableclothes on the tables,prices like that maybe at a swanky hotel or restaurant but a pub? With terrible service to boot ,it's been hyped by their pr agents and friends I think it certainly didn't reflect on our experience. A small add on about your response,never once did the server say anything about a delay or a wait for food ,for all my legs don't work my ears work perfectly. There was no reserved signage anywhere to be seen and the free drink offer was declined as we are not free loaders,but maybe ask the server to give a more accurate account of events rather than the more embellished one that looks better as a response,we had either been forgotten about or ignored,busy or not the level of service obviously fell way short of what you obviously expect from your servers,your bar person had to put heads on pints before serving them after waiting for a server rather than walk 6 foot from the bar when they had been poured originally, definitely not what I accept as an owner or co worker.

Tasty Brunch at the Bungo. Can recommend the French Toast with bacon, absolutely scrumptious. Pleasant atmosphere, polite service and good value for money. Toilets on same level as bar so no stairs - always a plus.

This is our go to place for a hangover busting Scottish breakfast. Accidentally discovered it a while ago. As a recently re-converted meat eater (23 yrs veggie) I still go for the veggie option. My partner goes for the meaty one. I have sampled both...

£17 for 2 chicken nuggets, 4 prawn crackers, a fried egg and rice with an excessive allocation of cucumber to fill the “large” plate. The plate was indeed large but the main element was sadly sparse. Shameful offering compared to other dishes on offer. Best...

Fantastic place. Really interesting but decent brunch menu, food arrived promptly and HOT! A gem of a place :)

Inattentive staff, who make you feel you’re an inconvenience as opposed to a paying customer. I wouldn’t have left a review if this hadn’t of been the second time I’d visited The Bungo and received such appalling customer service. I won’t make the mistake of visiting here again. I would have complained at the time, in person, if anyone had bothered to try and serve me.

Good breakfast on the South Side. Staff are friendly but not overbearing. Wide gluten free menu available.

South Indian fish thali, and blackened monkfish, both delicious, fresh, hot and served quickly. They offer gluten-free and vegan menus and the food is interesting and varied. I would definitely return. Staff were lovely.

A great find (chosen because allows dogs in the bar area, but looked like an interesting menu). We loved it. The service was efficient and very friendly. The menu had lots of really interesting choices. We were all happy with our choices. The chicken waffles were amazing. Great choice of cocktails. Would happily return!

Wonderful brunch and the best Bloody Mary I've ever had! Highly recommended!
