had an incredible night great friendly bar staff and amazing drink selection

While searching for the blue door of the house from the movie Nothing Hill, we came across this cozy pub. We had a few beers, the service is pleasant, the environment is nice, but we can't rate the food, because we weren't hungry and we only stayed for the beer. Dogs can come here too.

I was in the area so I thought I'd pop in for some snacks and a glass of wine. As I walked in, I was greeted with smiles and charisma. Mara, the General Manager, really knows how to run her pub. 5 out of 5.

I was spending my holidays in the UK and coming to The Castle was an amazing experience. They have great starters options and a whole nice menu, and the place is very pretty and cozy!! Josh was specially kind with me and my friend. He was very friendly and helped us with choose our beers and also gave us other drink options. If you are passing by the portobello road The Castle is a stop you must make.

Very 4 star overall. Food was a bit like ordinary pub grub, good portion sizes, not overly flavourful, mostly a tourist haunt and Notting Hill staple. Good, not great.

Very nice pub for lunch on Portobello Road in the heart of Notting Hill. My schnitzel (breaded chicken cutlet) was delicious and so were the kids' burgers! The triple chocolate brownie is killer!

We were a table of 4 on 23rd December. The server/waiter was not pleasant. We were told by one of the bar staff that we could NOT order drinks at the bar. Then when one of our friends ordered a coffee to go with her meal, she was not given any sugar & when we asked.. the sachets of 'candarel' were thrown on the table! We had to ask AGAIN for sugar, not sweeteners. We were not given cutlery or condiments either. The service was apalling and as locals, we will not be eating there again.

6 of us had lunch on a busy Friday lunchtime... service was very friendly and helpful. We ordered 2 x haddock and chips, schnitzel, steak sandwich, sausage & mash and sea bass fillets. All looked amazing and all diners very happy. I was blown away by the sea bass - best combo I've had and beautifully cooked. Thanks all at The Castle for a great lunch!

I went there last Sunday and I was really impressed. I had the sunday roast and it was really really good. The staff was so kind and the place was so cosy. I higly recommend this place.

Lovely place honestly real cosy feeling as soon as I walked in. Staff are super down to earth. I had some neck oil because I'm basic but the range of drinks is impressive. Would reccomend if you're in the area. Special thanks to Rhys and Leon <3

We visited this restaurant hoping for a good experience but were quite disappointed. Upon entering, we waited for someone to assist us with seating, but no one approached us for quite some time. Eventually, we were informed that the place was pretty much fully booked, leaving us no choice but to leave. A bit more prompt communication or a clear notice about availability would have been appreciated.

Perfect last lunch in London! Typical pub with English menu. The staff was very friendly and attentive to intolerances and allergies. I was looking for a place to eat Roast Chicken and in this restaurant it is spectacular! It is accompanied by vegetables and wine sauce (can be added separately). Super recommended!

The castle was a bit brighter and more cheerful than your average pub. Staff was very friendly, table service was attentive and the overall vibe was very nice. Chill, yet lively.

Loved it! We found it very random while walking around, we got a table right away, no waiting (which I reaaaaally appreciate). Got served very fast with delicious and quality foods … service was always fast and accurate . Highly recommended :) I’m leaving with a good feeling of having had a nice lunch and good experience. The food is great, the price is certainly not cheap, the location of the place is very good, the best is Valentina, an Italian who served us wonderfully, a 10 for her!

Thank you for the opportunity to elaborate on my earlier review (3 star). Appreciating that one’s experiences are unique and individual. The reasons for giving a rating of 3 for our visit are due to the food. We ordered a prawn and crab linguine and steak and ale pie together with apple crumble and couple of drinks. There were 4 shrimps (I counted) and cannot find the crab meat with my (rehydrated) pasta. The shrimps (small) were defrosted, understandable as we are no way near the fish market. My partner (son of a baker) indicated that the pie was frozen and reheated which account for the cold stew inside and the tough pastry. The mash was great though with lots of cream and butter. While we were there, a party of 12 came in and resulted in a major reshuffle of the tables and chairs - the noise of dragging furniture across timber floor can be challenging to people of our age - the patrons kept mentioning that they had made reservations. The South Asian looking waiter was very attentive, thank you. While we were here yesterday, there were a number of tables which were not clean up after patrons left - partly account for the reshuffle of furniture.

Really disappointed with my experience here. The female bartender was incredibly rude and made us feel like we were a bother just for ordering drinks. The place has a nice atmosphere, but the bad attitude ruined the night. With so many other pubs around, I’d suggest going somewhere with friendlier service.

We have now returned for the second time within a week. At the first meal, I had three different starters (no photos) all very good and spicy. My family ate fish and chips. Today we all ate the really good fish and dessert. Really delicious!!! Tasted British beer. The service is very friendly both times. The kitchen staff was friendly and on the ball. No long waiting time, no reservation required. Any time!

I went last Sunday at 1 pm with some customers. All the tables were reserved but we were lucky and they managed to accommodate us. Very prompt, friendly service, good prices and excellent food. Five of us ordered the roast beef and two tried the chicken with chestnut stuffing. Fabulous. The meat was very tender, lots of tasty vegetables and a good red wine sauce. Maybe some more potatoes? But the Yorkshire pudding was large enough to fill us up! We had a great time and the fact that the service was so quick meant that we had more time to explore the shops afterwards. Good job, guys! I will definitely bring more customers.

Asked the waitress if she could wipe down our table - she barked something at me and walked off. Bar staff seem very disinterested in the customers and look like they are bored. The vibe in this place is awful! Our burgers sat and waited at the kitchen and the waitress ignored them for at least 10 mins. Food: average Go anywhere else but here!

This was the first meal we ate when we got to London. We were walking around Notting Hill and decided the menu looked good enough after a long day of traveling and it ended up being one of our favorite meals on the whole trip. Service was excellent and the food came out super fast and was so good. 10/10! Was super excited to find a margarita and Heinz ketchup 🤣 it healed me after a long flight from the US

We really enjoyed it here! So good that we stopped in several times! A sign outside the door promised “The best fish & chips” and we were not disappointed! In the evening there is regular live music and beer and cider are available at all times. We tried some small dishes to share in the evening - we can also highly recommend these! The atmosphere is cozy and the service is friendly and quick!

Very dissatisfied with this place. Could be brilliant due to its location but unfortunately not. Staff are very rude. Sniggering at their customers, food terrible and even when I told them my pie was cold, I just got a very poor effort of a 'sorry' and then they had the cheek to add service charges. Gravy was lumpy too. If a chef cannot make gravy properly then they need to find another job. £55 for a roast dinner, pie with chips, lime & soda and a coke. Dreadful!

My friend and I had a lovely lunch today, Shirley was a fantastic waitress, she was there when we needed her but she didn't hover. I would highly recommend lunch at the castle, and you should ask to be seated in Shirley's section!

Never go after looking at the rating. This seems like the typical employee personality, but it makes me feel bad for no reason. They waited for my order without any additional explanation, and then they talked among themselves and barely took my order, but when I ordered coffee, they just said no. Why do I want to do this when they say it can't be done without even explaining it? I drank it all and was talking, but then he took the cup and slammed it, ruining my mood for the day. ^^ I felt strangely relieved.

DO NOT EAT THERE! Terrible service, super rude waitress. The food was bad... full of dough and super greasy, not even the simplest things like some 'chips' were good.

Amazing food. We took the chicken schnitzel, fish and chips and the cheeseburger. All 3 of these plates tasted wonderful. The portions were very big, we even had some leftovers. It was great. The prices are good as well for the location. If you sit near the window across the bar, you get a view of the iconic blue door from the Notting Hill movie. Nice service, very friendly people working. Would come again 100%! Recommend

It was warmer than I was expecting but I am not super sure that isn’t more common across the pond. It was a hot 90 degree day so thank goodness I had my little handheld fan. That aside the food was good. Had the fish and chips which was well seasoned and a good size portion. The other person in my party had a cheese burger which he described as okay. There were two people working. Both were courteous and friendly.

A good menu that covers the cuisines of the world. Eclectic doesn’t begin to describe it. Good ambiance, though no outside seating. Lovely atmosphere and super friendly staff. Lots of beer choices and a full bar. Biggest drawback—their Guinness is a bit off. Great head but the flavor and body are less than they should be. Least impressive pint I’ve ever had in the UK after 30 years of sampling. Clean the lines? Bad batch? Beneath The Castle’s standards.
