The Clarence in City of London, Westminster

Great spot to stop in for an evening bite after doing the touristy stuff. My daughter and I shared the Beef & Ale Pot Pie, Onion Rings, Caprese Salad, and the Toffee Pudding. I'd say all of these dishes were our favorite. Although, I must say those onion rings are to die for! They were light and crispy and the onions weren't overpowering. Loved our bartender - he was the only one who greeted us and made us feel at home. We enjoyed our meal and sipping our cocktails during our last night before heading back to California.

Great music playing, good atmosphere and and their AMAZING cherry bakewell cocktail! What else could you ask for?

Great Whitehall pub. Been visiting for 40 years. Despite its tourist location the pub serves great drinks and tasty food. The staff team are friendly and attentive. They even give table service without having to ask. Prices are a little high but to be expected in this location.

Wow, what a meal! We walked in off the street on a Sunday evening not expecting anything special because of the proximity to such touristy things. We were very pleasantly surprised! I had the chicken roast, my daughter had the beef and ale pie. We shared the sticky toffee pudding. It was all superb! Thank you so much for ending our evening on a high note.

Maria’s service was outstanding. Friendly and nice personality!! Great overall job. The fish and chips were excellent!!

FURST Stopped off for a drink on the way to a show at The Trafalgar Theatre. Decent range of Youngs beers (important to a bitter drinker) Priced as to be expected in this part of town. Have now made it my unofficial West End local. Always find a seat, usually at a large table with random folks already there. ie American airlines pilot, Irish or German tourists, etc. willing to shoot the breeze. Smiley staff, good beer, foods pretty good too. What's not to like?

The food here is ok. Not the best but by no means the worst. Some of the fried food is a bit greasy. The biggest issue is the service. It's quite haphazard. The atmosphere is great though and a real classic old London pub. Pop in for a pint but perhaps eat elsewhere. Gents toilets are downstairs.

Wonderful pub around the corner from our hotel. I’m gluten free and my son has nut allergies. They made it easy to order and the food was delicious! Dedicated GF fryer too!

The Spanish waiter, Luís, is a crack

Staff terribly mean to children. Because my husband and I were standing at the bar to order something, our children were barked at by one of the waitresses, because apparently they don't like it when there are two children at a table. So definitely not recommended! Glasses of wine also very expensive, an average of 18 per glass. I ordered a beer and received some kind of non-alcoholic drink after we had already paid, because “they had nothing else left and they had looked wrong”.

Incredibly good, the place for pie and fish and chips but I'm pretty sure the rest of the menu is good too !

The fish and chips are really big and delicious. It's big enough for one man to eat alone. Old Burger is also a recommended menu item.

Even though we were full, we went in to drink beer. We ordered fish chips because the fish chips plate on the next table looked nice. It was very nice, I recommend it…

Very nice place close to big Ben. Typical warm English atmosphere. The food served is plentiful and good. Thanks to Maria for her welcome and kindness. On the other hand, go there early because otherwise a reservation is necessary to find a place. Reasonable price for the location and quality

For the third year in a row we had our annual Christmas lunch at The Clarence. The menu choices were even better than 2023. As usual the service was excellent. The three course meal was slightly cheaper than in 2023 which we thought was an achievement.

Typical location, warm and welcoming. The place was full and yet there wasn't the classic crowd noise, we were able to chat peacefully. We ate fish and chips and a huge plate arrived. The frying was very light and the fish very good. The upper room is truly a gem

I was going to give it a lower review, but the food and the staff were absolutely amazing. We arrived there at 20:00 with a reservation, but there were a lot of key dishes that they were missing. While that was a disappointment at first, the dishes we got were really delicious and the staff members so friendly and nice. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place, but my advice would be to try to go early, especially for Sunday roast.

Everything was great, except that they had already run out of about half the menu offerings before our 6:30pm reservation. Someone in the procurement function needs more training.

I booked a table for drinks and lunch with friends. Although the pub was busy our table was ready and waiting for us in the bar. The service was excellent and our waitress Lisa was so friendly and helpful. It was our 2nd visit to The Clarence and we will definitely visit when we are in London again.

Absolutely loved it. The Staff members Lisa and Kim was so helpful with my Allergy. They made sure that they let the kitchen know about it and Kim had pre called and spoke about what i can and can’t eat at the restaurant. Lisa brought out an allergen menu when i wanted dessert as i wasn’t sure if i could have any or not. Most places don’t bring out the allergen menu so this was a lovely touch. The atmosphere was lovely, all the staff were vibrant and very welcoming.

Held or company Xmas drinks for clients and suppliers in the Whitehill room. The room was great, food was excellent and the staff very friendly. Really great venue

Lovely setting, beautifully laid out table. Service was fantastic, food was served promptly - no waiting around. They were short staffed, which I think played into the area having to close at 9pm? Food was lovely overall, a couple of things like no stuffing with our turkey dish and the cheese crackers were quite tough, but these are just tiny little things. We highly recommend!

Amazed that Apparently Youngs The brewery policy or the Pubs is to refuse Scottish currency. Having come down that day from Scotland I ordered a wine and beer and when served offered to pay. Sorry the bar. Woman said Company policy not to accept Scottish money. So if you are Scottish visiting London your money is not accepted in the Clarence Pub on Whitehall - Weird in 2024.

Great pub, central London prices but you get value. Bathrooms are clean, decent poured Guinness and friendly staff. Cleanliness rating is a 5 on the door. Food looked good, traditional pub grub.

Stopped here to have a couple of drinks after an incredible amount of walking around London. The atmosphere of this place is really unmatched! Super cozy, exactly what you would expect from a London pub. The drinks however did not match the atmosphere - when I asked for two cocktails I was met with distain from the bartender. The cocktails were also considerably unimpressive, especially for the price of them. Both watered down, no foam, not very picturesque - an espresso martini and a whiskey sour.

Excellent in all ways: the ambience, thr atmosphere, the food and beverages but above all courteous service on behalf of Maria! Shall return! Btw, try the Scotch egg and the sausage roll both on another level.

November - Having just that day come down to London from Scotland I ordered glass of wine and a beer and my money was refused! Not because the pub was card only but because it is company policy according to the staff not to accept Scottish money. So if you are Scottish perhaps find a more welcoming pub or brewery owner Youngs!

Atmosphere was nice. Only bad thing was the beer tasting funny... Think it needs a line clean.

Considering we visited Whitehall on the Sunday of the "dirty river" protest, the pub performed magnificently. The bar team and the guy bringing food were efficient and friendly, the beer was very good and the food looked nice (we didn't eat), a surprisingly good experience. Well done.

Came in Lunchtime. The staff were excellent. Very friendly. We had a sandwich and pint. But they do a full menu. Youngs Ale. Recommend.

The place is very nice, Akshay has served us very attentively and is very attentive to us, the food is very good with typical dishes, 100% recommended.

Nice old English style pub. A bit noisy, but that's a pub atmosphere for you! Recommend that if you're a group of more than two best make a reservation ahead for a table and enough chairs, as it is very busy.

Look no further. I've known the place for 20 years. You can enjoy the best fish and chips here, served by a very smiling and efficient young man with shoulder-length hair.

This place was fabulous! Super great appetizers and meals and very friendly staff. Our server was incredible. The lamb, sole, pig-in-a-blanket, and scotch egg were amazing. View outside was great! Drinks were wonderful. Can't say enough great things about this place. Great way to spend an evening on our honeymoon!

The friendliest pub I have visited. We arrived just before kitchen closing, and the bartender was so accommodating. The only place I have been where I was given a large bottle of tap water for the table with no issue. Wrapped my takeaway into a foil duck . Oh and the food was delicious!! And very reasonable.

Spent a lovely afternoon with friends. The dining room on the top floor is gorgeous. Disappointed that the vegetarian option on the menu for the Sunday roast wasn't provided. No substitute either. We had pre-booked for 12 people, and the restaurant wasn't busy. I would have thought that they would find a solution to get some sort of roast cobbled together for the non meat eaters. The meat eaters were very happy with their meals, and the fish and chips looked great. Friendly staff and helpful waitress. Overall a good experience.

We went for a late birthday lunch with friends and the staff were top notch, very helpful and nice. James and his colleagues were very attentive. The food was nice too albeit a tad pricey - it's the West End after all.

Another authentic London bar that one cannot miss. It has a peculiarity. When they give you a beer it is really cold. Then you realize that the waitress is Spanish and had to say something to her about it.

First ever visit after passing so many times. Greeted by Jayne on a very busy day, got us a drink and seat at the bar while she personally cheered a couple of tables for us. Great service continued by Jayne and the manager Kim. Fab food, served quickly and a lovely wine list. Will definitely visit again!!!

Perfect place for a London getaway. Friendly staff and amazing food. The steak I had on the Friday night was fantastic. Breakfast was included, wide range of items on the menu. You cannot fault it. Saturday Eveing meal was a set 3 course, I was stuffed before dessert came. But I had to eat the pudding as that goes into a separate part of the stomach 🤣. Definitely recommend this place as its so close to Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Covent Garden, and the tube stations. It's a 10 from me.

Our first time visiting this wonderful place and being "out of towners" were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we received at the door by James ( nice touch) . The reception, feel, general atmosphere was great and the Sunday dinner was beautiful and well needed. We'll 100% be back on our next visit. Thank you James to you and your lovely staff 😊

Had my first ever Sunday Roast and let me tell you it did not disappoint!! It was so tasty and such a well balanced meal paired with a refreshing pint of cider. Decor was beautiful and staff were so lovely which is an added bonus. Will definitely come back next time I visit London

I Stopped in with a couple of friends for a Sunday Roast. The food was incredible and very generous portion sizes. We were seated and looked after by Kim and a few others on the team. The staff were friendly and attentive but just enough to still allow you to relax. Although this is central (minutes walk from trafalgar square), the atmosphere was relaxed and very similar to that of an old English country pub. We will definitely be back

The pub itself is lovely! The interior has been kept so well and it was incredibly clean for such a busy pub. The staff were all lovely and attentive, especially the manager Kim! The service was fast, we only waited around 5 minutes for our food which was fresh and delicious and a super generous size! Absolutely would recommend, 10/10.

Sunday sharing roast is great! Deffo one to pop in for. Sat in the dinning room upstairs and service was on point. Roast was banging! A must try if you are in the area!! Thanks guys will be back!!

Booked a table online. Walked in. No one greeted us. Ignored at bar for about 5 mins. Asked a waiter standing in corner where our booked table was. “I’m not sure.” At that point we walked out.

It was a very good experience. Michael was the BEST host, he recommended us some food and It was all very very good. I hope we can come back soon.

We were in London for a few days holiday and decided to stop here for drinks. We came across The Clarence by chance and we are so pleased that we did. The staff at the bar were so nice and we got our drinks and a lovely table to sit at to enjoy them. We ordered another couple of drinks and decided that the food that everyone was having around us looked good and we opted to have dinner here in the pub instead of heading to a restaurant. Best decision we made, the food -1 fish and chips and 1 sausage and mash and a side of onion rings was amazing! This was our last day and it was the best food we had eaten in London throughout our whole 4 days. We will definitely return the next time we are in London. There was a lovely atmosphere too, a great traditional pub, with lovely staff and great service.

The inside of the store is a little small, but the atmosphere is perfect. The fish and chips, burger, and coke cost about 10,000 yen, but the fish was so crispy and delicious that it almost overflowed from the plate.

Went to The Clarence specifically for their Scotch Egg and it didn’t disappointed. Service was friendly and quick. Atmosphere was great and very quiet (went around 4pm). The Scotch Egg was delicious, running egg and comes with a sauce on the side. Perfect fusion of flavours. Definitely recommend this pub and will come back for sure!

They are all great!!!!! Very nice, delicious food and perfect beer too If I come to England again, I have to go again!
