Had a lovley meal to celebrate my husband's birthday. Food and service excellent. Enjoyed sitting in the cosy bar area with the fire.

A great start as pub looked beautiful from the car park with its garden fairy lights! Food good, atmosphere lovely and very spacious, stylish interiors. Staff were stand out excellent as efficient, friendly and helpful. They made my mum feel special on her birthday and were great at accommodating our dog. Thank you to all.

I recently dined at The Cock in Mugginton and felt compelled to share my experience. The food was nothing short of amazing—every dish was a testament to culinary excellence, bursting with flavors and beautifully presented. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the sides were equally delightful, making the meal one for the books. However, the evening took an unexpected turn with the presence of Alex Jones. He was clearly inebriated and under the influence, which led to some very inappropriate behavior. He was loudly disruptive and, to my shock, went as far as slapping waitresses on the behind, which was completely uncalled for and inappropriate. Despite this unfortunate incident, the staff handled the situation with remarkable professionalism and grace under pressure. They managed to keep the service quality high, ensuring that my dining experience was not entirely overshadowed by the chaos. If you're visiting The Cock in Mugginton, go for the food—it's truly exceptional. Just hope for a night when the atmosphere is as delectable as the menu.

Food service and venue all really good.

Four of us ate there last Saturday. Three of us enjoyed it but my beef bourguignon was very disappointing - much of it was fat, which looked the same as the lean meat because it was all covered with sauce (which itself was delicious.) The lean was good, and I don't mind a bit of fat, but my overwhelming recollection is removing large quantities of fat from my mouth.

Portions were well sized with reasonable prices. The staff was very friendly and the environment really cosy. I definitely recommend it.

Service was amazing. Staff were very attentive even though they were busy. Food choices were ok. Starter- Pate was nice but only 2 pieces of bread- disspointing and the Thigh burger was not great. The steak was good and the kids meal were good.

We were in the more old fashioned pub area which was very cosy and nicely decorated. Food was excellent and they provided a birthday treat for my sister for free. We had a lovely time over all.

We very much enjoyed our family meal on New Year’s Eve. The service, food and live singer were all fabulous!

Firstly I would like to say we had a pod booked the restaurant was not busy at all, when the food arrived 1 of the meals had a short dark hair strand in the meat, aswell as the meat being tough as boots when it was supposed to be soft melt in your mouth beef it was more like a tough fatty steak however I did complain there and they did fix the problem as quickly as possible the service was good food average definitely one of the worse days on all meals that we have ever had here not likely to return now and it was a favourite at one point

Arrived at 17:15 for 17:30 reservation, order taken at 17:30 but meals did not arrive till after 18:40. Although had pre-booked, as had most others there, they had already run out of burgers by 17:30 and the poor waiting staff seemed swamped. Although this put a bit of dampener on 40th wedding anniversary celebration, this has not put us off what is a great place, with great food and staff.

First of all there was loads of meat flies flying around in the restaurant and bar. Which is rather worrying in late December! The toilets had no hand soap in. Which i would of thought the staff use these too. We had to wait 45 mins for starter and a further hour for main when we pre ordered. When the food came it was like child portions and very poor quality for the price.

Lunch with family guests staying with us. TBH I was a little concerned as we’ve struggled a bit with lunch menu here before but yesterday (Friday) there was a great selection and the place was buzzing. Service was excellent, as always here. Though the bartender had no Crème de Cassis he was knowledgeable about an alternative. One slight downside was when asking for a Cognac, the various options were gabbled off too quickly. The pods are great but not in cold weather as heating isn’t the best and eating nice food in overcoats is a little odd. Overall - excellent

Sorry to say not a good experience food is very poor quality service no great deserts delivered no spoons no biscuits on the side as described- £8.50 for small shot of Italian coffee with blob of ice cream is not good value for money shame we love the place but menu is unimaginative with little choice they weren’t even busy! We won’t be back

The steak was like shoe rubber and we honestly didn’t enjoy it. The other meals were ok (table of 10), however, felt like we were just pushed into a corner with no room to move. Won’t be visiting again.

The food just didn’t impress. Part of a group of 12, so admittedly it’s harder to cater for a group than a smaller table, but most of our group came away underwhelmed. Wouldn’t return in a hurry.

Was a wonderful meal and venue. We were booked in the pod, but due to the weather was cancelled for upstairs, which is very prettyxx

Went for a business meeting on a Friday lunch time and sat in one of the pods. Service and food were fantastic and the staff were very accommodating. I would definitely recommend.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch. The staff, as ever, were very pleasant and attentive. Always a lovely atmosphere. The main meal was presented well, but unfortunately both our meals were served warm, which was a little disappointing.

Called in after a nice walk around Kedleston hall. I chose tge Vlub sandwich, which was very nice, if not a tad expensive. The Epiphany pale ale was on top form though. Definitely recommend

A lovely 'gastro' pub serving good quality food, much better than your run of the mill pub grub. Dogs welcome in the bar area. We really enjoyed our visit yesterday, lovely warm welcome, friendly staff, food was gorgeous. Our dogs felt so at home, they just went to sleep.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. However, the food was disappointing and whilst the pub is lovely the food was poor which is the second poor meal recently and we would only return now for drinks and not food. I ordered the lamb. It was a good cut of lamb but only 2 small slices accompanied by 3 small new potatoes cut in half and a bit of leek that was inedible. Overpriced and over salty. My partner ordered fish and chips but the batter was soggy. Luckily I was able to eat a few of his chips which helped to fill a gap and and needed a ham sandwich when I got home to feel like I'd eaten a meal. All in all, very disappointing for our anniversary meal :-(

Absolutely fantastic meal we have had tonight. I went with family, so there were 3 of us and 2 had the pork tomahawk and 1 had fish and chips and it was all delightful. Desserts were fab also. The service was faultless, our waitress was very attentive. We honestly can't fault the evening. Thankyou.

The food was pretty good (we were there on a Sunday lunchtime and had one beef and one chicken) the beef was excellent but the chicken a little dry. The veg were all good except for the carrots, these were very large, old and woody.

We had a lovely meal for a family of 4, celebrating our wedding anniversary. The chorizo and manchego crocette was the top dish of our meal followed by fish and chips and the chocolate brownies. The inn is situated in a lovely, rural area, and has a decent parking place and outdoor eating area. The service and atmosphere were excellent.

Shame about service. No attention, lack of service for drinks, wasn’t asked if we needed sauces or condiments - mustard, horseradish for Sunday lunch. Food was mediocre for the price. Won’t be going back. Beware if you have a wheelchair user as they might put you upstairs- there’s no lift. So half of our party needed to eat downstairs.

Staff were friendly and food was lovely. Had some chilled live music playing too which really added to the atmosphere. Would definitely return!

We love it here, either a Friday date night with live music or a Sunday lunch in one of the pods with our three children. Hopefully they bring the Châteaubriand back for the winter menu.

Popped in to with a few friends for lunch. It was unusually empty which is why I gave 4* for atmosphere. However, the food was lovely (we had a variety of dishes and all 5 of us enjoyed our meals) and good value for money. The service was excellent thanks to two lovely waitresses who served us. This is the third time we’ve been here in the last few years and each time it has been good.

Am so sad to say, I left dissatisfied and disappointed. The food was lovely, service good and we were well catered for during our time within the restaurant - during my meal I found a large piece of plastic within my mixed green vegetables, which unfortunately I had already placed into my mouth, I placed said piece of plastic on a napkin at the side of my plate, I didn’t make a deal of it as the restaurant was busy with other diners, I finished my meal with caution and advised the waitress when she was collecting our plates. She discussed she was sorry that’s not very nice, I advised I understood it wasn’t her fault just thought it needed to be brought up - not only was it a chocking hazard but also dangerous as it was sharp along the edges. I am never even one to complain and this isn’t a complaint just more of a concern. Unfortunately no offer of a complementary drink or pudding was offered so we paid our bill and left. Disappointed but other than that nice food, ok atmosphere and was looking after during our dining experience.

Vastly improved from a year or so ago, back to how it used to be.

Came for my hen do, the service was quick food was beautiful waitress was so lovely the staff even wrote congratulations on a board which was a wonderful little suprise. Would definitely come again.

We tried our luck for a a late Sunday afternoon roast without a booking, and were accommodated straight away. Friendly service and really delicious food! Beautiful gardens and outdoor area too.

Will not be returning, booked for a special birthday and it appeared quiet (no atmosphere) half the limited menu was unavailable and what we did have was of poor quality and tasteless. This is 2nd disappointing visit after previously excellent service - what’s happened?

Food was inedible, so much salt in the starter and when I mentioned it to waitress she said that quite a few other customers had said the same recently. Why has this not been addressed? The main was very poor. I ordered lamb but it was so tough I couldn’t get a knife through it. I was told it wasn’t a filling main so probably better to order a side. When this same it was a slab of cabbage which was rotten at one end and not even sliced. My husband had burger and chips but the oven chips weren’t even cooked. I won’t be returning and after my main was deducted it was still £60 for two and probably one of the worst meals I’ve ever had 😔

Really enjoyed the first time we came last year, but this time I felt my dish was very underwhelming...😕

Staff friendly and helpful but menu was not to my taste. Even the children's menu was too fancy.

To summarise, it’s a shame everything did not live up to the appearance of the building. The service was very polite but slow, in their defence I believe they also had a wedding on so maybe this is a mitigating factor. The food was pleasant but I would describe the portions as mean for the cost of it. Over all, pleasant but could be a lot better.

A very good experience. The food was very good, although they had run out of the Chicken and Leek Pie, which was the reason I went there, which was a shame. The chicken supreme however was very good. Jasmine our server was excellent, very attentive and good with our children, asked good questions and brought everything in good timings. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the garden pods outside look fantastic. If I am in the area again, I would definitely like to try one.

Always good food served. Freindly staff who will give you their recommendations on what is good. Good selection of wines and beers, all enjoyed in a really classy surrounding.

We called in mid afternoon and although it was fairly quiet we had a great experience. The bar is dog friendly which was perfect after our walk at Carsington reservoir. Food was very good and they had my favourite beverage on tap. Plenty of tables outside too with pods if it’s a little cooler.

Sadly this wasn’t the experience I was looking for when you pay £23.5 for a roast dinner which is one of the most expensive in the area. Firstly I was told that I couldn’t order my starters and mains together unless I wanted them to come at the same time? Apparently if you sit outside you have to have your starters and mains at the same time. Things very odd, the only way around it is if we go to the bar, order your starter, wait until You have had it, you then have to go back to the bar to order your mains. It is not possible to put your order in on one go. Therefore no starter for us. When the roast dinner came, we asked for Horseradish to be told there was none. I then asked if I could have some French mustard, again I was told they weren’t sure if they had it so they would check and come back? Nobody came back? No check back on our food either. Terrible service when you are paying for the most expensive roast dinner locally. You need to tidy that up and do much better. Won’t be returning as value for money is non existent!

Amazing location, we always bring guests here! Food is absolutely excellent although at times service has been a little slow (they said it was their first night with a new menu so I’m sure this will pick up quickly 😊). Recommend booking a garden pod in the summer for a lovely indoor/outdoor cozy dining experience. Fabulous wine selection 👌

An absolutely delicious meal in a wonderful setting with very friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended. As a party of six we had a good mix of meals including starters and desserts and not a single complaint about any of it. Thank you!

This was planned for my sisters 50th birthday meal and the pre order link sent out to use was the old menu. Therefore when we arrived the menu was very different and we had to re order. The food tasteless and being in pod meant no one came to keep asking for drinks. I have to say the setting is nice but the food lets the place down and for such a big site I cant understand how management run the place. Would not revisit the place

Fantastic food!! Especially the prawns and the mackerel pate. Salmon and chicken mains also excellent. Can’t wait to come again!

Very very disappointed grey Chicken in the burger, chips obviously been kept warm or reheated as they were hard and inedible, told the Manager and was not interested, knocked 10% off. we came for a special birthday celebration which was not at all special, we will not be returning or recommending. Even the toilet wasn’t working satisfactory .

Great location, even better food. Service was spot on. The Sunday roast was one of the best we've had. They are also dog friendly, so if you fancy a quick pint or a fantastic meal pay them a visit you won't be disappointed.

Got in with a table for 8 last minute after a mix up elsewhere. They let us put lots of decorations on the table and bring our own cake, plus brought a treat on the house. The food was excellent as it has been every time I've been, and the service was lovely.

First visit after having been very disappointed about 1 year ago. Service (apart from Manageress) could have been faster as waiting for about20 mins for our drinks.

Ordinarily this would be a solid 5 star unfortunately on the night we visited there was live music playing in the bar and I bloody hate Dire Straits etc being butchered at a volume too loud to tune out. However, the staff were pleasant and extremely attentive without getting in your face and efficient. Food was very tasty and well presented (fish and chips and chicken) and the Moretti was nice and cold. I appreciate that you can't please all the people all the time so will in future check on a lack of live music.

Can't complain about the food, very good Sunday lunch. There was a little wait on out food due to larger groups of tables. Service was very good and in nice countryside location.

Love this place. Had heard about it but never been. So glad we stopped in. We were only stopping in for a drink but the smell of the food meant that we had to stay for dinner. We both had the fish and chips and it was so nice. The surroundings are amazing too. Have already booked to return. The staff were really friendly and helpful too. Can't wait to come back

Great night at my Daughters 50th birthday, staff were extremely kind and helped with the decorations and balloon siting, and bought out a cake we had supplied after the meal. They also gave her an ice cream sweet as an extra. The food was excellent, and was really good value. A top venue for anyone thinking of visiting. Jasmine our waitress was attentive and helpful. A great place to enjoy great food.

A simple and inexpensive Sunday lunch, elevated by genuinely well-cooked food. Attentive service and very pleasant surroundings. Views over the countryside from the airy dining room. Book a Pod in the manicured garden for a festive occasion, ideal for warmer days. We'll come back for that experience...

Visited on Saturday, excellent experience - food was amazing, fresh and beautiful, drinks we great, and service was beyond perfect. Amazing experience - all the staff were great, but a special mention for Matthew who was really attentive & couldn't do enough for us.

Sunday lunch menu was great. Starter of prawn & smoked salmon was very small & not good value for over £10. The meat on my Sunday lunch was over cooked & tough even though I could see the cut of meat was good. If we had a check back I would have sent my meal back for a replacement, instead I gave my thoughts when the shift supervisor cleared our plates. When I suggested my meat had been reheated in a microwave I was told that you didn't use a microwave to cook food. No apologies or reduction on price & a cool reception when I asked for the bill at the bar. I have been in hospitality for many years & wasn't too impressed by the customer service we received when I commented on the standard of meat.

This was the worst dinner I have bought for a long time. I had their pie of the day which firstly, was not a pie, it was presented in a very small bowl with a lid of bland and dry "pastry". The contents of the bowl consisted of 5 pieces of processed meat and some mushroom. In addition to this miserable excuse of a pie we were expecting some seasonal vegetables. What we got was a large spoonful of overcooked cabbage. I left to cook some dinner as there was nothing of nutritional value in the vastly overpriced main course. On a positive note the starters were average and the location and building is nice but not good enough to excuse the awful food.

Very long waits for overpriced food. Starters are OK... mains are very pricey for barely any meat. Their idea of seasonal veg is a bowl of overcooked cabbage!

Lovely food, with the pub set in a picturesque location. A bit more expensive than your usual pub fayre, but you can tell what you're getting is quality food and worth the expense as a treat.

We visited for a birthday celebration this evening and we were served by Hope. She was so attentive and the food was absolutely delicious! We couldn’t decide on puddings so ending up sharing 3! Service was amazing, as were the food and drinks. Thank you!

Sat in one of the garden pods for mother's day. Dinners were cold and rained on no covers. Felt sorry for the poor staff up and down getting wet . Manager was very apologetic.
