We stayed for 2 nights first night we ate out but booked evening meal next night, the meal was lovely but service was far too slow.We sat 45 minutes for our starter and another 30 minutes for the main course, our room had old furniture, paper hanging down from ceiling, the bathroom was nice and modern though, ground floor is lovely but rooms need updating

Lovely historic hotel in the centre of Harrogate, nice weekend stay and a lovely meal in the Churchill suite with Adrian going the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect.

Great location for exploring Hartogate. Very historic hotel, with a grand interior, as with all old buildings, there are bits that are a little tired but it is clean and well-kept. Car park is only small but there is another public one nearby. Staff are all very polite and friendly. The breakfast is great! Lots of choice and plenty of seating, even at peak times. Overall, fantastic value. Would definitely recommend.

Dated but clean, centrally located hotel. We came for the Christmas Market, less said about that the better. Hotel is fine however our final days breakfast was quite possibly the worst hotel breakfast we have ever had. Took an age to get our poached eggs and even then had to remind them of our request. Baked beans were the driest i have ever had, I suspect they were reheated from yesterday. Sausages although large were undercooked. Toast was fine although cold from waiting for the eggs! Not the best sorry.

Having stayed here many times... I think 5* is appropriate... I'm not under any illusion the hotel is tired..old...and in desperate need of restoration in parts.. however from checking in at reception to checkout the staff all work hard and are pleasant and professional...our room was cosy warm.. spotless bedding and bathroom clean... shower adequate.. lovely large white fluffy towels..will definitely be back...👍😁

Great location! Rooms very dated and extremely warm! it's a good job we had a fan in the wardrobe or we would have struggled. We ate out not in hotel. If we were visiting Harrogate again we would stay elsewhere.

My wife and I booked the one night 'all on us package'. We opted for a suite. The package entails evening meal, breakfast, 2 free drinks each and lunch before you leave. Best of all is the 2pm check out. We have no real complaints. Yes the hotel is a very old building in need of a refurb. However I dread to think how much that would cost. The reception and ground floor bars and restaurants are really nice. However once you get beyond them it's all a bit tatty. Our suite was a good size with the separate lounge we wanted. Our evening meal was spot on as was breakfast. Our request for our lunch before leaving did cause some confusion as the member of staff didn't appear to have any knowledge of the package we were on. Bottom line, did we enjoy ourselves? We sure did. Would we stay again? Do you know the package was such good value we would definitely do it all again.

Stayed there for work reasons. Very old hotel, outdated walls, need redecorating. At night from outside looks like a ghost building. Service was good though and room was clean, bed was quite comfy. English breakfast buffet was nice, but very tiny space so if a lot of people, have to squeeze between each other, the plates were not properly washed so be careful when you take one. However it is ok for the price and for short time, and location was good.

Wish I could leave minus 5 stars. Rooms very dated staff not very helpful 1 of the nights we was evacuated due to a fire alarm when eventually got out and round to the front with no help from staff only found out the way thanks to some bus drivers. Thankfully the fire brigade was very quick and determined it was a false alarm but the staff seemed to be clueless about what to do. Food was cold most of the time and when you asked staff they just said that's how it is. Will not be returning ever again and would advise anyone else not to book either

We had a nice stay at The Crown Hotel. We upgraded to a suite and that really enhanced our stay. The rooms need a bit an uplift, they are a bit tired looking. Clean room, clean bathroom and clean bedding. Hotel staff very good at all times. Breakfast was disappointing, it was a buffet breakfast and the hot buffet items did not look appetising. We had weetabix , fruit and toast which did fill us up.

Only stayed for 1 night on a Groupon offer. Lovely big room and exceptionally clean. We had a 2 course meal in the Restaurant in the evening which was just okay, nothing special but the service was very good. Breakfast the next morning was very good

In the centre on Harrogate. Used a gift voucher for afternoon tea. It was very quiet, service was excellent. The building looked better inside than out. Some of tge cakes were not to my taste.

Lovely old building, but the room I had was in need of some TLC. The window wouldn't open, and despite the fact that a fan was put in there, was still hot.

My husband and myself stayed for two nights last Sunday to Tuesday. Loved it. Food was really good tho not much choice for a veggie and staff were amazing. We asked to be moved as next room was really noisy with tv on till 4am. Night porter dealt with noise efficiently and straight away and next day we were moved to another super room. Yes the rooms are old but this is an ancient building with loads of character. Just the job👍 Sue rowlin

Good location. Lovely from outside, nice in reception, but once inside room 1 - No heat in bathroom, no heated towel rail 2 - Cool radiators on a cold night 3 - No hot water on getting up at 6.30, unable to shower, still none at 7.30 when breakfast started 4 - Stained bathroom floor 5 - Handwash bottle on washbasin not working, dirty on outside of bottle 6 - Dirty windows 7 - Lack of plug sockets near bed 8 - Dirty kettle, calcium build up on kettle spout, unable to have hot drink 9 - Stained chairs 10 - Stained curtains 11 - Smelt damp 12 - Bath plughole gurgled with nasty smell when washbasin taps were running Informed reception staff on check out of some of the issues but were met with disinterest. This was a Groupon deal but we have paid less in other hotels and got much much better room. In need of a complete refurbishment and update.

We have being visiting this cafe for over 15 years and always enjoyed visisting with family. The team in the yellow uniforms were always friendly and the prices VERY resonable. We enjoyed Xmas luches here and have great memories playing crazy / mini golf. Visited today hoping to enyoy cake and a latte, but noticed new owners have taken over. Sadly not a patch on previous set up and sorry to say the wonerful home made baking was replaced with uninspiring offerings. Latte was the worsed i have had in many years, can only be described it as white coffee, the owner was unimpressed and rude with me asking for a replacement. Will not be returning.

I do not usually write reviews but I feel as though I have to after what I witnessed last night 28/11. After waiting 20-25 minutes for my food, I saw the fryer shouting at the gentleman on the Till area. I asked the young man if he was okay and I could tell he was getting upset. The chef was repeatedly shouting at him and telling him to go home and storming off and swearing at him whilst the gentleman did not respond and seemed to get upset. The worst part was that it was quite busy and the man on the till was obviously trying his hardest whilst the other gentleman working was seemingly walking around aimlessly, not helping, and doing nothing. I am disgusted by this, surely in this day and age abuse towards young staff should not be happening? After reading other reviews, I have seen that this is not the first time this has happened with the same Chef. Surely management has picked up on this? I was going to give the chef a piece of my mind but was concerned that it would only result in him shouting at the young gentleman further. I will not be returning when this man is working And I am advising friend and family to do the same.

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))

Having visited the Tontine several times in the recent past, we looked forward to a nice Sunday lunch as a family. The visit was marred by underwhelming customer service, requests for water took several attempts before being served, the staff seemed uncommitted to delivering much of a service, and the food , frankly was at best average.I’m afraid that in view of the negative impression we had, it will be some time before we return, there are so many good local places to eat, it really is a disappointment to have to be so negative, must try harder would be my advice.
