The Crown Hotel Restaurant in Richmondshire

Not sure where to start. Only one table was in, and yet we seemed an inconvenience. The food is below average, pay £20 for the top dish, to find it was frozen chicken nuggets, food very cold and came out at all differant time Atmosphere terrible, no music, no coffee cups, no hot chocolate, no ice, no cutlery wrapped, dirty glasses, toilets are dirty with loose wires everywhere. Only one staff member on, making excuses all the time, making us feel uncomfortable. What a shame, lovely village, wish I had gone to the cafe down the road for half the price.

What a fantastic pub and restaurant! Amazing staff who are so friendly, kind and extremely hard working! Such a great atmosphere with an amazing selection of beers and drinks and the food is awesome! If you are visiting Hawes make the crown your first stop. We will definitely be back soon

Incredible food and lovely staff! We ( a family of 7) came here for a Christmas dinner treat, so the pressure was on… Fortunately the crown delivered like Santa on Christmas night. The staff always had a smile on their face, and handled everything in their stride. No request was too much for the hard working team. The plates hosted a hearty, and flavourful meal. Big enough to feed the whole village. From now on, if I’m ever near the area, I will have to pop in. (And will be recommending this place to everyone I know)

Visited and had a beer, would have stayed to eat but it was cold inside, and the people in the back room were very rowdy. Beer was ok but will continue to use the other 3 pubs which are warm and welcoming.

First time back in The Crown since reopening - how lovely - lovely food and great friendly service - pub had a lovely atmosphere - we will be back!

Visited for lunch, never been to Hawes before. Beautiful location, beautiful interior real wood fires, had soups salads home cooked hand cut chips grilled halloumi all excellent and reasonably priced. Very friendly staff warm welcome, would recommend and definitely visit again

Have returned many times to The Crown for drinks and a meal. It's recently been taken over and a new chef. The food was great as always. Would recommend.

Popped in for a drink only. Nice pub with lots of quotes from kings and Queens of England as decor along with paintings.

Friendly and cosy pub with an excellent pint of Old Peculier. Thank you for being there just when we needed a drink after a long walk.

Only came in for Sunday lunch, so glad we did! Friendly staff and delicious food. Couldn't fault it.

We had a very enjoyable time here.  We had really warm welcome from lovely friendly staff who kindly brought our drinks to our table in the bar.  We were intrigued by the middle eastern vibe of the menu and were very impressed with the high quality food we received.  We loved the lamb moussaka and the kofte kebabs which were so tasty; the food was all really delicious.  We were very honoured to meet Amir, the chef, who told us of his home country of Iran, his journey to becoming a chef and his vision.  We would highly recommend eating here.  You won't be disappointed!!

We were travelling to Hawes and wanted to have a meal and book a table. Phoned number provided, said it was unavailable. Phoned a mobile number twice leaving messages, didn't get back to us Went on their Facebook site and left a pm, again, didn't get back to us. Popped in on the off-chance of having a meal on a market day night, to be told it's the chef's night off, no food. In this day and age, they need to get their act together. PATHETIC

Always loved the Crown in Hawes, beautiful pub with amazing food, but I've just been again with different management and they've completely upped the standard. The food was incredible, Amir the chef is brilliant, I recommend the beef stifado. The owners Toni and Rob are so friendly and welcoming, we did not want to go home. Will definitely be going back.

Lovely pub right in the centre of Hawes market place, went in for a drink and was intrigued by the menu, Greek/Turkish in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales? Had to give it a try! My wife had the Beef Stifado and I had the Beef Guvec, both were absolutely superb and being a bit of a chilli head my Guvec was nice and spicy, the large chunks of beef in both meals were so tender they could have been eaten with a spoon! We were so impressed that we booked for Sunday lunch the next day, big mistake, it was possibly the worst pub Sunday lunch we’ve ever had. We both chose roast pork, when the meal was served there was no crackling and the pork was lukewarm, no roast potatoes just large boiled ones with undercooked parsnips and grey broccoli with carrots and Yorkshire pudding all covered in an unpleasant herby gravy. It’s a real shame as the beer and wine were excellent and the Greek/Turkish menu was wonderful. Overall I think four stars is on the generous side but swayed by the first meal and good, friendly service.

Pleasant evening and great meal. The menu included some Greek dishe and we had the Stifado and the Briam. They were excellent. Staff friendly and welcoming too!

Booked last minute with a party of 10. Staff were brilliant and very accommodating. Good service all round from behind the bar to the food, which was excellent and the chef came out to make sure we were ok(great touch). Would highly recommend to anyone

Visited for a meal. Had the steak pie. Proper neatly pie. Delicious. Husband had fillet. Again fab. Would defo recommend.

Came for a meal and to be fair it wasn’t to bad but when we went to pay the miserable women behind the bar told us how much and proceeded to walk away after she said tap your card on that, it wasn’t till we got home we added up what we had and what we paid so either the pint my husband had and my coke cost nearly £20 there’s something dramatically wrong there. They didn’t give us a bill to look at she just told us the amount and walked off. We aren’t local and came for a run out after arranging my husband mum funeral that morning.

We enjoyed an evening meal and a drink at the Crown on our last day in Hawes. The moussaka was very tasty and made from local lamb...Black Sheep bitter too...

We had the Briam (vegetarian and gluten free) which was absolutely delicious, a very authentic Greek dish, rich, tasty and beautifully cooked. We also had the Greek salad starter as a side dish - we could have been in Greece, it was complete with olives, feta and a wonder combination of herbs. I believe the chef is from Greece.

Sep 2024 made a few visits here as food so delicious n presentation. Good to get fish dishes in Dales. Great new chef Amir 😃😃😃 waiting staff though very young always smiling n welcoming

My husband and I were staying nearby and stopped for dinner at The Crown. We were very impressed with the menu as it offered a variation from the usual pub menu. My husband had the Beef Stifado and I had the Briam which both were delicious. The hospitality from both the publican, staff and chef made it a memorable experience.

We were staying nearby and visited The Crown for lunch. A lovely varied menu with a surprisingly Greek/ Middle eastern flavour, although other pub classics were available! The briam was delicious. This meant there were very good options for vegetarians and vegans. Staff behind the bar were chatty and helpful and our big Golden Retriever was welcomed too. Good selection of beers available (local and otherwise). Would recommend.

Called in for lunch over the Bank Holiday, and tge menu was a bit limited, especially as I am on slimming world. Asked if they could possibly do a chicken salad which they gladly obliged even though they were busy. Thanks guys it was lovely and you went above and beyond. Hubby's blt was lovely too as was the coffee

Visited the Crown Hawes at lunch time for a bite to eat and to rest after walking about the town. Just visit the bar to order food and drinks at your table. The staff were friendly and rather funny! Perfect place for something to eat. I personally had the BLT which was great, bacon was tough but overall enjoyable. My partner had fish and chips which he devoured within minutes so assuming it was great too! Not far to walk from the car park if you stop by for dinner. As well as the nearby shops to visit. Warning. It can be rather busy in the area. Overall, I recommend stopping by!

We nipped in for a bite to eat as we were passing by. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was hot, fresh and tasty and was served relatively quickly. The pub had a nice atmosphere and was clean. Unfortunately, the gent’s toilet was not so well maintained, the door lock was completely broken and so was the hot tap. But other than that - a very nice place. There’s outdoor seating with a beer garden and a pool table can be found inside. I would certainly recommend a visit to The Crown

Nice pub in the centre of Hawes. Decent food and very, very friendly service. Dog friendly. There's a pool table and a decent menu to choose from and the lrices are not ridiculous. Some nice real ales too. Overall a really good choice.

Stopped at The Crown for Sunday dinner today after a trip the cheese factory in Hawes. I can honestly say it was the best roast beef dinner I’ve had In years!! Great service and reasonably priced. Very highly recommended!!

Visited today after a long good walk, with our 2 dogs.. we was first in the pub so ordered our drinks and food, just after 12 noon.. the pub started to fill up quickly... we waited and waited. Other tables where getting their food, which was ordered after ours. After an hour and 15 mins... we asked where our meal was, but by this time the dogs where getting fed up.... no one seemed to know? So we just paid for our drinks and left, hungry and miffed off. Sort your staff out.....

Lovely traditional British Pub, just what you want after a hike around the surrounding area. Good selection of beers and wines to choose from. The kitchen was being refurbished when I was in, so I can't comment on the food. But it's definitely worth a visit if you get the chance.

Brilliant gem of everything a local pub should be: excellent range on tap, top service, friendly staff. Toni and Rob are superb hosts, warm and welcoming. Sarah behind the bar goes the extra mile. We will definitely be back to The Crown!

Went in for a drink, but it was evident that because we were not dining, the landlord gave the impression that we had just been scraped of his shoe, bland and over priced, few other pubs in village far better.

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT Wow, what a welcome! Staff were very attentive. Prices are fab. Atmosphere was very welcoming. Nice to see this pub back in business.

Food was OK,, the pub lacked any atmosphere . They had no orange juice, or decaf coffee. This was an old haunt of ours some years ago, and we used to loved it. Quite disappointing 😞

Went here for Sunday lunch, all six enjoyed one of the best lunches we have ever had . Everything was fresh and tasty.

Staff excellent. Nothing too much trouble & the way my wife was looked after for her birthday was above & beyond. Please go see. Great staff. Great beer & great food. Can't comment on the rooms as we haven't stayed. We will be calling again next time we visit Hawes.

Friday night is karaoke night! Great atmosphere.

They have Old Peculiar on tap and a great Yorkshire pudding! Highly recommend stopping by after a hike through the dales. The front patio is the most obvious seating choice but there is a beer garden out back that is away from the noise and bustle of the main road.

We live nearby and always come to The Crown as our local over the other Hawes pubs. Tonight we took some burgers home to eat and not only was it quicker and so yummy than other takeaways locally but the OP was particularly delicious. Thanks guys, see you again soon!

Visited for Sunday Roast. Unfortunately was near end of service and chicken and beef had sold out, however everyone enjoyed the pork. Generous portions and nice traditional pub atmosphere. Only slight negative is food was over salty.

Really impressed. Friendly, welcoming staff in a cosy, rustic dining area. Good selection of wines and soft drinks. Food was delicious. We went for dinner and got a table, no problem. We had yummy fish and chips and a particularly tasty chicken ceasar salad. Will definitely return if we're visiting here this part of Yorkshire again.

Arrived at the Crown with my friends l was busy looking at the specials board when the landlord approached me with a rather loud tone and said we have finished serving food, l replied we are not here for food. This was at 13.40 l was fine with this until another custocame in at 14.00 and ordered soup and sandwiches at the bar.

Had 2 meals there this weekend as on holiday and they didn’t disappoint very quick service and staff very friendly , Sunday lunch exceptional very dog friendly ,we’ll definitely be back

Just a quick pint but a good pint.

A lovely old stone-built inn located in the busy marketplace. I stopped off here for lunch on my way to the Wensleydale Creamery. There are outside tables in front of the pub and a beer garden at the back, but I ate my meal in the cosy and rustic bar lounge with its traditional wooden furniture, and historic quotations and old photographs on the walls. The bar staff were hospitable and friendly, and although the restaurant area was busy, I did not have to wait long to be served. Good choice of Yorkshire ales, and they also do cocktails. There was a nice selection of homemade pub meals on the lunch menu including burgers, sandwiches, wraps and a couple of mains. Opted for the chicken fajita with peppers, onions and a spicy sauce, served with tasty dressed salad, tortilla chips, sour cream and guacamole. Very flavoursome indeed, and the portions were generous. The blackberry and lemonade made a refreshing accompaniment to the spicy food. Overall a really enjoyable meal and not expensive either. Would recommend.

Just come back from the best food I've had whilst at hawes .....I had the lamb shoulder and it was delicious I would definitely recommend....my husband had the spicy burger and said it was beautiful....the staff are very friendly and approachable all in all a fantastic experience thank you.....

Visited for the first time on a Friday. Nice cocktails and food for a reasonable price. Good portion sizes. Would recommend the pork belly and beef lasagne. Friendly staff and they brought our food and drinks to our table outside on the decking. Plenty of seating.

Better than me own mother's roast dinner

There are nicer, friendlier places to drink and eat in Hawes. They might benefit from better training for new staff and a more positive customer facing attitude.

Had one of the best Sunday dinners. Choice of different meats. Took chicken, came with mash roast, parsnips, carrots, red cabbage and green beans. Yorkshire pud and gravy of cpurse!! Ordered cauliflower cheese as an extra. The whole meal really was delicious and plenty of it too. Would def go back there when visiting the area. Staff super friendly too.

Quality food, just what we needed after 3 peaks challenge. Exceptional service when a mate left his sunglasses and one of the staff ran up the road after us.

Food very reasonably priced for the quantity and quality of it. Service left a little to be desired, bar staff when asked if they had any available tables for food didn’t seem to know what bookings they had and what they didn’t - as well as telling us it depended whether the person behind us wanted a table for food! Surely it’s first come first served like other places (unless booked prior) We were told we could have the table until 7:30pm which gave us an hour and a half; I expected this would be enough time as most places allow 1.5hrs for bookings. We ordered pretty much straight away at the bar and waited for food - food arrived 6:35. Good quality home cooked food, no complaints with it at all. Kids meals included ice cream which we weren’t offered nor were we offered a dessert menu. Seemed there were more tables in than the kitchen could cope with. Overall a decent meal but service could definitely be improved.

went there at a lunch time it was ok returned on an evening most tables were reserved I picked one that had no reserved sign on it and was told by a staff member that it was reserved and they were fully booked that's my last visit to that establishment 😡

Up there with one of the best Sunday Roasts we've had. Great portions and delicious food. 5/5 would definitely recommend.

Our first visit to Hawes tried this great little pub for food on our first night. The food was fantastic so was the service. Had Sunday lunch here as well best pub Sunday lunch I've had in a long time. Will definitely call again when we come back

Best roast dinner I have ever had in a pub 😋

We stopped here on a Sunday after a nice drive out. We needed a good dinner and after randomly choosing The Crown Pub. We can say we made a good choice. The staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere of the pub was rustic and warm. And the Sunday roast was honestly one of the best i've had.

We spontaneously called in for a drink and something to eat here. It’s a little gem! The food was delicious and fresh, portion size just perfect and empty plates all round. We were served by the friendliest, happiest member of staff I have met in a long time. He made sure nothing was a problem, brought our drinks to to the table so our food didn’t go cold. Keen to ensure our time in the pub was perfect. He’s certainly an amazing first face to meet when entering. Plus to make it even better it’s dog friendly with plenty of space between tables to account for grumpy dogs. (Mine!)

I booked a table the day before for 6 people at 1.30. Arrived on time if not early, no table set. 2 tables had to be pushed together, cleaned and set. Pub full of barking dogs - chaos. I know it’s a dog friendly pub because we had ours with us but he’s better behaved than some adults. Very limited menu and service was reasonably quick. What disappointed me was the disorganisation because I was told our table would be ready from noon. Standards are not as good as they were when the previous lady was there. There’s plenty of pubs in Hawes so we will try another one next time.
