We have been to this restaurant a few years ag, when the meals and service were excellent. We knew it had changed hands and I think it has had two owners since we were there. Arrived at lunch time, not having booked - to be met with - “not booked?”. So we were shown to an area of the pub which had been reserved, really for local people who were chatting and having a drink. Unfortunately we had been asked for our drinks order and given our order, before a further 6 people came in and joined the large table. We were the only ones in this area eating and on the next table was a printer, being used for the first 15 minutes - it was really like an office. If we had been told that the area we were being placed was mainly for people meeting and having a drink, plus the restaurant area was fully booked, then we could have decided whether to stay. Given that scenario, we would not have stayed. The meal was adequate and we could not complain, but the ambience and service, from our perspective was below expectation. What a pity, this was once one of our main eating places, as we are local to the area.

My wife went into the pub to book a table for the following Sunday (4 day's hence). She phoned to confirm the time on day . They couldn't find the booking. Not a good start. They managed to fit us in ,and I'm glad they did. My wife and I both drink cask ale while pleasant in taste we both felt it was to cold, We ordered our food, beef for my wife and turkey for me. The food arrived. It was well presented but my wife sent hers back as it was to cold for her. I was to hungry to send mine back. My wife's meal came back and she tucked in. Both meals were very tasty, my wife was most complimentary about the beef. The chef should be complemented. The problem was, in my opinion major staff shortages ,and maybe lack of support from management. But what do I know. The big question is, would we go again. The answer is yes. Whether we would be welcome ,time will tell.

This gem of a pub in the heart of Everton was the venue for our father's Wake on 27 November. Leah and her team provided a superb spread which included a wide variety sandwiches, sausage rolls, pork pies, quiches, cakes, tea and coffee for our group of 35 friends and family. The event although tinged with sadness was made all the better by the friendly, helpful staff and the great atmosphere they all generated. Thank you again Leah, and we look forward to visiting in the New Year.

We had a fantastic Sunday Roast! We were a group of 7 and the food came out hot and absolutely delicious. Best toast potatoes we have ever had. The only feedback would be was there wasn’t enough gravy on the dinners and we purchased extra but it was small pots of gravy. They did explain it was nice/expensive gravy and it definitely was but there should be more on each dinner. We were staying a few 100 yards away at Forrest Edge holiday cottage so ideal location. Highly recommend, friendly local pub with delicious food.

Such a lovely, friendly cosy pub. Leah and Gary have really created a welcoming atmosphere and have bought back that feeling of how a community pub should be. Attentive and accommodating staff nothing seemed a problem for them. Incredible food, not your normal basic pub grub. Chris the chef even came out and introduced himself and personally checked everything was okay with our meal. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend the cookie dough brownie!

I was very disappointed with the poor quality of the food. I hadn't been for 9 years (when it was top notch!) and it has apparently changed hands three or four times since. I was part of a large group of oldies for lunch and could see from the face of the 'front of house' seemingly 'charisma free' and 'matter of fact' attitude, and lacking the charm which you need to have with your customers in a catering establishment. The first course of chicken goujons should never have left the kitchen, let alone presented to a diner as even edible as it was burnt to a cinder; it went back and was replaced by an alternative which was fine. Main course of fish & chips; the cod was quite a small portion and rather thin, the batter was dark brown and the fish was subsequently overcooked. I wasn't going to send that back having to wait for a replacement as well, so I ate it as the chips & peas were okay. At £24 it was way too much and very poor value. £15 would have been enough, which many other establishments are able to do. The Crown was aware of our numbers well beforehand, and as we had pre-ordered there's really no excuse for poorly presented food. Only a few days earlier I had fish & chips at a local independent Christchurch pub for £9.95 with a large portion of nicely cooked battered Cod. Tells you all you need to know really. I should say the Chilli Con Carne was enjoyed by the two diners on my table.

We ate out at on picnic tables in pleasantly lawned the back garden with some trees affording shade on a warm sunny day. The pub was very quiet, only one table as occupied and there was no certificate displayed of the Food Hygiene Rating although it appeared perfectly clean n the bar and dining areas. I enquired and was informed it had been 4 star, no current certificate, ‘just paperwork’. We opted for freshly cooked scampi and chips which was excellent together with draught beer and bottled alcohol free, also very good. Service was friendly, prompt and helpful. Plenty of space in the car park at the back.

The staff were friendly, but The food was terrible. Everything tasted like it was frozen and microwaved,.2 of our party had burgers, which were gristley and processed meat, not sure what meat it was but didn't taste like beef. For the price you pay, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.,as well as dodgy tummies next day. Wouldn't recommend to anyone who has taste buds.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS: We were served Sharwood's microwaved naans, flavourless rice, and reheated pork curry at £14 a plate. I've never felt more conned at a restaurant before. Starting with a positive, the staff were all lovely, very helpful and attentive. Unfortunately the food just wasn't very good. The consistency of temperature between different items on the same plate varied too much, some were almost cold very quickly while other bits were warm, nothing was particularly hot, which in a cooked meal is not great. A lot of the food looked like it was cooked from frozen a packet, not home cooked. Underwhelming. I only gave 2 stars because the staff were so nice, if I was scoring the food only I would have given a single star.

The positive about this was the food was on the plate. The food was cold or not cooked, prior to ordering we asked if the beef was pink and was told it wouldn’t be- it was very pink! This was also cold and incredibly hard to cut and very chewy, but it was the gift that kept on giving as it was stuck in your teeth through all the chewing. As long as you use fixodent then I would recommend a visit.

If I could give ten stars I would! A wonderful pub - we booked as we were staying locally for our wedding anniversary. The staff were welcoming and so friendly - the food was delicious - the smoked mackerel rillette was tasty but not overpowering - plentiful portion. For main I had the Lymington crab salad with fries - a while dressed crab with a mixed salad which included heritage tomatoes accompanied by super crunch chip - so tasty! My husband had the goat curry which was excellent with a good spicy kick! We somehow managed desert of sticky toffee pudding and a lemon tart both of which we tasty and the portions were large - I couldn’t finish it all. The meal was excellent value for money and we will definitely be back for another visit

Hubby was a bit put off at the beginning after being seated and told they wouldnt take our order for 15mins so we had time to look at the menu. We shared nachos to start and the melted cheese was yummy. Hubby had a magnificent gammon steak and I went for the battered cod and chips. It came out to the oohs and ahs of the rest of the customers, looking rather huge and stately on a huge wooden platter. Although lovely there was a lot of batter and I did end up digging the cod out to eat separately. That said the batter was lovely and crisp, not at all soggy just a bit much for me. Overall a great evening.

I was so impressed by the fact it was cooked well without being dry I asked how they cooked it. Mum had scampi which once again was cooked to perfection. Obviously everything had been cooked fresh no reheating or bulk cooking at This pub. 😊 Chips and peas nice and fresh. Coke fizzy and cold. Everything was Perfect 🤩 Staff so welcoming and brought the dogs fresh clean water and a gravy bone each as a treat. Will deffo return. Traditional pubs like this just don’t exist anymore. I have been coming to the Crown for 13 years and the food of late has been a little disappointing but I have to say that thanks to the new Chef - and with all due respect to the previous landlord/chef Phil - this was the best Sunday roast I have had there. Perfect roast pork with exceptional vegetables and a divine Yorkshire pud on the side. And then half of a sublime sticky toffee pudding which managed to be soft and crunchy and light. I hope people will come back in droves - social distancing allowing. There were three of us at lunch and we all were absolutely delighted. Well done Charles for finding such a talent.

When we arrived for our meal we were only given a very normal pub menu. We asked about specials and were told that due to the fact it was quiet they were only doing specials at the weekend. This was very disappointing and not the fine dining that they advertise. The restaurant was quite busy We did let the waitress know that it was still advertising specials on the web site.

While any hostelry is to be commended for serving the public in these covid times there is no excuse for serving the fish and chips my wife and I chose. The dryness of the fish showed it was not fresh, the chips weren't particularly nice and the pureed peas was just a teaspoonfulBut the £18 bottle of Chilean wine can best be described as being £4.50 bottom shelf of any super market. For £50 we felt we had been had! We are local and have seen this pub go through a number transformations - none of which have been successful. When will people learn a pub is a pub and needs the local support. The local postmaster thinks it days are numbered. After our experience that is no surprise.

Six of us celebrated a birthday dinner at The Crown. Menu is varied - we all went for different menu choices and one of us is dairy/gluten free. Food was presented well, tasted good and the portion sizes were ample. Very friendly staff, we weren't rushed and the place was very clean. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening and plan to book again soon.

We have eaten here numerous times as this pub is local to my mum. Such a bonus to have such a jewel in the Crown Inn! The staff are all friendly and helpful, the choice of food plentiful to satisfy any palette and it has a lovely warm atmosphere. We have eaten here for Sunday lunch, evening dinner and even had our very first Christmas dinner here last December! There were a lot of covers that day and whilst we were there for a few hours, as there were so many meals to be served, it was very relaxing and the staff headed by Charles the publican were both efficient and happy under such pressure. The food was perfect - good portions and temperature - and we were comfortably full. We look forward to our next visit and would recommend this place to anyone who hasn't visited here before.

We booked a table here for after our Sunday walk, I’m glad we did. Staff are helpful and super friendly, Three of us went for the beef roast dinner and I went for the pork, really good portions and super tasty. Would definitely recommend, well worth a visit, you won’t be disappointed. I have to say the best Sunday dinner that I have eaten out for quite some time. (The rest of the menu also looks delicious, we will be returning to try other things ;-)

We last visited this pub some years ago and are pleased to say that under new management it is now much improved. The service is friendly without being intrusive and the period decor comfortably relaxing. We had the Sunday roasts, generous helpings served with a good selection of vegetables. Well above average and reasonably priced.

We turned up on Sunday lunchtime without a reservation but the staff were very helpful in saying that they could seat us if we could vacate out table inside an hour and a half which was fine for us. The menu was very good and the service excellent given that the restaurant was very busy. The food was very tasty and they were good portions. A very pleasant experience and will definitely go back if in the area.

Stumbled across this gem by pure chance, whilst on a road trip through the New Forest. Not having been before there is always the fear of the unknown. Fear not my fellow road trippers, Its a little gem. There is a great ambiance about The Crown and the staff were very attentive, even asking if we wanted the red wine that we had ordered prior to ordering lunch, to be opened to "breathe", which was a lovely touch. I only had one glass, as the wife drank the rest to cope with my driving!! The food arrived which was "upper class" in my opinion, for a country pub.We chose the Lambs Liver as I always try to choose something I don't eat at home and it was cooked absolutly perfectly. It was a lovely lunch and personaly cant wait to go back sometime soon.

This is our local pub , and we often visit for a drink , but rarely have dinner . We had an early table as there was a large party later on . We were able to enjoy excellent food at a leisurely pace. The service was good , and the food was absolutely superb. We chose a couple of the daily specials , which are a new innovation , and they were well worth it. Good portion sizes . Very fresh seafood and nicely cooked veg.Glad we chose to eat in the Crown as it was a lovely meal

Super little cafe with utterly delicious baked breads, pastries and buns. The sourdough loaves on their rustic shelves look & smell wonderful! Enjoyed a perfectly brewed coffee from their own roastery and a vanilla cream bun which was heavenly. The staff were so happy and friendly, I have to mention them all so thank you Harriet, Charlotte & Izzy - what a lovely little place!

My friends and I visited on a Sunday afternoon from out of town at a local’s recommendation. I loved the atmosphere - lots of plants, lots of seating. There weren’t many customers, so it wasn’t loud. We were hoping for afternoon tea, but sadly it is not available on Sundays. Some of us got the Sunday Roasts instead. More in our party (of 10) would have liked to try the Sunday Roast, but they only sold it to some of us due to limited staff & presumably limited ingredients. The rest ordered sandwiches. I’m sorry to say I was not impressed with the starter or main course (the meat, potatoes and vegetables were a bit dry), but I did enjoy the crème brûlée for dessert. Afterward, we visited a gin distillery around the corner. They allowed us samples, and I was impressed with the flavor and smoothness.
