The Crown Inn, Roecliffe in Harrogate

We have regularly visited the Crown since it reopened. We booked a table for lunch at 1230 and arrived on time. The car park was full and so our first mistake was not to turn round and go somewhere else. We walked through the door to find a mass of people blocking the way to the bar, obviously a private party. Our second mistake was not to turn round and go somewhere else. We finally found our way behind the bar so we could get to our table. We introduced ourselves to a harassed waitress who said that she would be with us as soon as she could. We should have turned round and left. We sat at our table and were ignored for 15 minutes until we grabbed a passing waiter and ordered drinks which did arrive. 10 minutes later we got some menus and the private party had moved into their private room so that we could finally have a look at the specials board. 15 minutes later I went in search of someone to take an order from us. There was no-one around, they were all serving the private party. Finally when we heard starters being served to them we had the attention of the waitress. We asked her for the bill so we could pay for our drinks and leave, she assured us that as the private party had been served their starters our order would go straight through. We then heard main courses being served to the private party. 30 minutes later we still had received no food, I sought out the waitress and said that we were leaving to be told, truthfully, that our food was on its way. When it came the food was fine. We abandoned any hope of getting a pudding or coffee, paid our bill and left. I have never before not paid for service but I just could not bring myself to. I'm sure that a large party of diners is of value mid week to a restaurant like this but if you take a booking like that don't take other bookings that you can't cope with. If you do and then realise the mistake do something about it. Offer cold starters to keep other diners going or offer a free glass of wine or, at least tell the truth and apologise when things have gone so badly wrong. None of that happened. I'm not sure that we will be going back.

Charming village pub with attentive staff. Lovely open fire most welcoming on a chilly winters day. Great food and beautifully presented. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

We had heard such good things about this place but sadly it was just ok. Prawn cocktail seemed like a few frozen shrimps with a prawn on top. Other dishes were good but not good enough. Service was enthusiastic, but things just didn't work. Probably would come here again, but not in a rush.

Eleven of us went on a monthly Lunch Bunch outing. I can honestly say that I had the best meal out ever. Everything was brilliant, from the extreamly attentive staff, to the venue and of course, the reason for the visit - the food. There was not anything that could be criticised. It's on the list for our next family outing, which, if it is as good again, will be the first of many

Fantastic lunch at The Crown Roecliffe, Prawn Marie rose sandwich in home made seeded bloomer with a cup of chips and cup of soup on the side, delicious! Complimentary foccacia bread to start and lovely coffee to finish. Thank you, staff are so nice and friendly. Will be back soon.

The crown is a gorgeous pub/restaurant very clean and welcoming a large fire greats you as you walk in from outside. The staff are great full of spirit Steve and marco are so much fun but also very professional and attentive. My father is lactose and glucose intolerance which can be hard to cater for but not for carl and his team .. the food all came out was beautiful a fantastic menu put together with lots of choice. Amanda runs around keeping an eye on the tables and helping out been one of the team so nice to see. This place is how Carl and Amanda's restaurant's always used to be and you won't find anything like it . Thank you for a fantastic day will be returning very soon...

A really lovely restaurant, beautiful decor, pleasant atmosphere. Positive friendly welcome and a wonderful menu choice. Delicious food served freshly prepared and very well presented. Will definitely be returning here on a regular basis. Highly recommend.

We have just had Sunday Lunch at the Crown, what a fantastic meal. Karl and Amanda have done a fantastic job at reinventing this fabulous establishment

First time at The Crown since they re opened. They have done the place up lovely, but kept the traditional character. The service was excellent (and entertaining in a good way, with the waiters having a sense of humour) And the food was utterly gorgeous. Very highly recommended and will definitely be back (soon!)

Absolutely exceptional experience, front of house staff wonderful (rachel, I didn’t get the chaps name) and we would come back just for the experience from them! Now to the food!! I had steak pie, exceptional, and proper gravy!!! Seriously a 12/10 . I must point out that I opted out of mash or chips as I simply can’t eat that much! Hubby had the whole plaice, with new potatoes . Cooked to perfection. Prices are good as a lot of pubs are starting to out price themselves, but I do understand it’s difficult for the industry at the moment. We will definitely be back!! Our new local!! Just another company that can't run a very popular pub ! What a shower of ### that are unable or don't want to pay the staff or supplies that all walked out !

Paul and Paul have recently taken over in the management of this Country inn on the Main Street of this stunning village near Boroughbridge. The whole dining experience has been transformed, great menu selection and local beers. Well worth a visit

Another delicious dinner from this new team, incredibly imaginative and creative menu, cooked to perfection with outstanding flavors. Attentive and friendly service in “country pub” surroundings. Highly recommend.

Had a fantastic and perfect meal with 2 friends. Atmosphere was special but relaxed. Service good but not too fussy. Menu was clear and confident with a selection of amazing sounding meals. Food was very good indeed, inventive, tasty, and good to savour. One of the best pub meals I’ve had in a long time.

Had a delicious dinner. The lunch menu is fabulous too. This used to be a great Gastro pub that people would drive miles for. But sadly when the pub was sold the food standards and service slipped rapidly back. New team have taken over. Happy to report it is back up to being a fabulous destination pub for foodies! Great menu. Including Bone Marrow - etc. The specials board had lots of options for everyone and vegetarians. Fabulous meat-eating destination as well. Great service too thanks Paul and Jordan. Worth a visit

Had a lovely meal here last night! The food was very nicely presented and tasted amazing!!! We both had the veg bhaji for starters followed by the belly pork and vegan veg dish for mains. The flavours and quality of the ingredients were stunning. Also received a warm and friendly reception and the service was very efficient. The manager was excellent and we enjoyed chatting to him about the pub. We will certainly return when in the area again

We stopped by here and enjoyed the most delicious salt beef sandwiches for lunch. The new team have really turned this place around, everyone was so welcoming and lovely to chat to - thank you, we will be back!

New team arrived 2 weeks ago who clearly know what they’re doing! Warm welcome from Paul the new manager and his team, whether you pop in for just for a drink, or can’t resist the fabulous menu. The food is superb- creative menu by Head Chef Paul . The food is beautiful to look at and utterly flavoursome and delicious. The Crown Inn is finally on it’s way back to being worth a visit- so give it another try as you won’t be disappointed! Looking forward to going back often!

A transformation at last, absolutely friendly management and Chef, totally creative menu with very sophisticated flavors, great value and can’t wait to return Easter weekend watch this pub it’s going places again.

Absolutely excellent food, 9 of us are and every single one enjoyed our meal. Good menu selection including many vegetarian selections.

Just reopened under new management and have to say it has a very promising future. We had a delicious evening meal from starter, main courses and dessert. I can certainly recommend this if passing through this region. Ps: Dog friendly served water and treats so 5 star from them also 🐕

What a let down. I booked a table on line through their website for lunch on Wednesday 9/3. When we pulled up in the car park it was empty, which was not a good sign. The restaurant was clearly closed! No sign apologising for a late change in circumstances! The doors were locked, but lights on. No response to our knocking. This place is miles from anywhere, so no chance of finding an alternative! DON’T ACCEPT OUR BOOKING IF YOU ARE NOT OPEN! No excuses! I booked via your website!

Had a meal in the crown inn on a sat night, asked for 2 well done steaks that could have been cooked a bit longer, against our better judgement we went back to the pub the next day for Sunday lunch (dear me) they didn't...
