The Dickens Tavern in City of London, Westminster

Drinks were good, the company was great, but I didn't get a dick in anywhere - misleading name.

Only marking atmosphere down for the lack of an update on the decor and the grim toilets. The old pub feels is fine but the toilets are not acceptable, you have stuff broken and it stinks. Update Just been there again to be greeted by an 1 unkept and 1 blocked toilet. These auto replies from the owner are also annoying. I hope they are not keeping their foods with the same care as the toilet.

Friendly staff, good range of beer, the food was great value for money, I recommend the steak pie and fish and chips

Worst customer service I’ve had in a long time. Lanky streak of …. On the bar. Rude takes money and doesn’t have product. Staff on day off getting free drinks while you are waiting. Toilets are a disgrace. Really terrible experience, go somewhere else.

Visited in December 2024 with my daughters and grandaughter for food. Ordered on app. Drinks didn't arrive had to go to bar to chase after 30 mins. Food arrived but was awful. Dry bread was inedible. Wont be back.

Walked into the place cuz I was cold, just had some wine, but loved the Jack Sparrow look alike!!! Lovely human, very outgoing and friendly. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in London.

The toilets are absolutely manky, both ladies and gents toilets. The place is grubby and the staff looked like they didn’t want to be there. The service was that bad we left after one drink. The smell of weed in the bar would knock you out.

Great experience visiting this traditional Pub in the hearth of Paddington. Pretty wide range of Pub classic food and nice selection of Ales. Good service and fair prices

Lovely place and nice environment.

Very very slow service! We came here on a Sat afternoon around 12 pm and it was half empty. We ordered our drinks and a plate of fish and chips. It took about half hour for us to get our meal. When it did finally arrive, the fish was a little cold. The chips were good. The accompanying peas and sauce were fine. I wouldn't recommend coming here to eat or drink if you are on a tight schedule.

Absolutely shocking bar service waiting over 15mins for a drink 10 of which there was not one person behind the bar. And then when someone did come they ignored the large cue and washed glasses!!

A pub we usually visit when we are in London. First time in 2006.

Top boozer! In the big smoke for a football match popped in here before and after, good atmosphere friendly staff particularly the Italian cat, (supports Juventus) with an Axel Rose/Jack Sparrow vibe that he has made his own and smashes!! Will definitely return!!

Nice place got in used app to place order only to be told that the frier was non operational so no chips with any food and no alternative, no prior notification upon entering the venue, no signs nothing to warn of this, very poor and not what I expect from a Greene king venue

Convenient location close to Paddington. Table reserved as per booking and well located to watch the rugby as requested. Also enjoyed the pool table available

On Friday me and my friends we’ve been waiting to be served for quite some time, but the waitress (long hair) didn’t try to bother on doing so… but then the perfect resemblance of Johnny Depp saved the evening, with his positive attitude and his fantastic approach to people. Giving 5* just because of Johnny!

We been here for our week end in London, great atmosphere and a particular thanks to Angel that give us the best time and service ever. He definitely a good reason to go there !

I popped in for a pint on my way back to my hotel. It was ok and I got served quickly enough, but the barmaid didn’t seem particularly friendly.

We recently visited this pub to celebrate a special occasion, and while we understood that the place was short-staffed, the rudeness of the low budget jack sparrow look alike bartender was completely uncalled for. After finding a table, we noticed there were no menus, so we went to the bar to ask for one. Instead of simply handing us a menu, he responded, “use your common sense, it’s on the table, plus if you want to order food, it’s a long wait.” If there had been a menu at our table, we obviously wouldn’t have needed to ask. When we pointed out that our table didn’t have one, he rudely told us to just grab one from another table where other customers were sat. We were not in any rush, and we completely understood the busy atmosphere, but this level of attitude was unnecessary. It’s a shame that such a simple request was met with such hostility.

Nice little pub in short distances to Paddington Station. Was very happy to find some Guinness 0.0 there, Nice and cold.

We came here to watch football. The food was great and the service excellent especially our waiter Camillo. Definitely recommend!

Terrible service. Barman clearly looked at me as im the next customer in line to be served but a 3rd customer arrives and when its my turn to be served he goes to the next customer behind me. Thankfully the customer advised him it was me who was next. Very strange behaviour.

My favorite pub not only in Paddington but in London. Got a great bartender, great wait staff and good drinks and great food. What else to love?

We visited for dinner on Sunday. They were out of Sunday today and most sandwiches besides burgers. The food was pretty good, but my beef and ale pie was overcooked. Good atmosphere, but very loud.

Overcharged me for my food by £7 and then argued that I was in the wrong for ten minutes until they realised their mistake, no apology. 15 minutes later, staff came over to tell me that my food order was sold out, so could I swap my order? I re ordered half a chicken, when it turned up the fries were brown from the dirty oil, the chicken had been cooked in the deep fat frier and looked like it had been run over and the side salad was at least a week old and rancid. Honestly, some of the worst food I have ever attempted to eat accompanied by incompetent sevice, frankly appalling. Also, the place was filthy throughout. Do not eat here.

We just wondered in and it was the best decision, Kamil welcomed us and help us get the best beer we were looking for all day.

Kamil is the most amazing person to have in a bar. Happy, attentive and hard working… The main thing I noticed was that when he was glass collecting, and saw the Q just dropped and spoke to people .. all people need is engagement and he did that in abundance Thank you Kamil x

Reserverte bord for 3 voksne og et barn på 15 år for å spise middag fredag kl 20. Ved ankomst fikk vi beskjed om at barnet på 15 år var for ung og ikke velkommen. Alder på barnet ble oppgitt i bestillingen, kan heller ikke se at det står noe om aldersgrense på nettsiden. Det ble ikke noe middag på oss.

This was our go-to spot during our visit! I should have taken way more photos… great food, great space, soft lighting, great food selection.

The Dickens Tavern was a great place to eat. The atmosphere was reminiscent of a Charles Dickens Era Pub. We enjoyed eating there and the staff was great!

Great place with helpful staff.

I never leave reviews but this time I had to. The woman (who I believe is the manager) was rude and irritable. Her and the other woman at the bar were using foul language and seemed annoyed whenever a customer came over. I work in customer service as well so I understand being tired but they made me and my friends feel incredibly uncomfortable to the point we had to leave early. Also the toilets were in horrible condition and food took an hour to get delivered and it was 100% all frozen. I love English pubs but this one was a horror show. Avoid this miserable overpriced place if you're in London

Went here for a couple of pints , wee bit expensive

A strange and unpleasant visit. On a quiet mid-afternoon with few other customers, it took almost 90 minutes for food to arrive, and when it did, it was only similar to and certainly not a close match for what we ordered. The barkeep/publican was evidently trying for a Captain Jack Sparrow look, but what mostly came through was a contemptuous attitude. It seemed especially strange (in a Greene King pub) to hear him exclaim loudly to each patron how he was a passionate hater of all lager, and drank only Guinness. He did apologize for the staffing problem with the kitchen. I'll not be going back.

We stumbled across this pub by accident and decided to eat there. It was a good job we were not starving as it took an hour and 15 minutes for 2 lots of fish and chips and we were not the only ones there who had a very long wait, and it wasn't that busy either. Maybe it would be an idea to warn customers of the potential wait as they were obviously under staffed in the kitchen, which is a shame as the actual food itself was nice and tasty. Must try harder sorry

The bar tender Camilo was very nice to us and also talk spanish knowing we were from México, the drinks were really tasty. A really nice experience!

Excellent ambience, music is good to have fun and chat without yelling. Beer is excellent as well. Take a chance to come and have a great time ;)

One member of staff doing the bar and serving food. Busy Saturday afternoon with footy on TV. Lots of people left rather than join the huge queue.

Jack Sparrow gives you the beers, that alone makes it worth going.

I stumbled on this pub late one evening while looking for Fish and chips. This was my first time in London and I was in the area. Unfortunately, the kitchen was closed and I wasn’t able to indulge. However, the bartender/ host at the time was very kind in directing me to places that may still be opened. Camilo (sp?) was a dear and even offered me an umbrella as the rain came down! I cannot comment on the food but I know good service goes a long way and Camilo gave me just that!

Kamil was absolutely amazing!! So kind and so much fun with incredible service! Really brightened my day!

Yanks visiting a nephew in London - pub was nice and clean. Had lots of local and English charm. The sorta place an American would expect to find in an English pub. Close and easy walk from Paddington Station - maybe 5 minutes is all. Service is fine - only complaint is that there’s no wait staff and one must go to the bar to order drinks. One can also use their app to pay for food (or order at the bar) but that’s never as nice as easy as having the wait staff come to you. Would definitely return again.

The polish bartender (sorry forgot his name) was a great host! Welcomed us even while coming in close to closing time! And drink was great!!

We went in yesterday and as a green king you should be ashamed to hold there glory name first off calling our table messy but you didn’t have the manhood to clean it before we came is rude when we said bye you got offend and opened the door and wave like we upset you we only got our food because the chef came and asked. where the hell is your Service don’t go here I say make the trek to the Zaland arms in South Kensington

Decent beer and food was nice, okay for a stop over, but I prefer more traditional pubs.

Dinner with my family. Ordered two fish and Chips. Very good food. The boy at the desk was very friendly, he made me taste some biers before the choice.

For the times we have been here on our stay, the pub was super friendly and inviting. Ana and her staff made us feel super welcomed and appreciated. The food was absolutely spot on for what we wanted, and we left here super satisfied. The service was reflective of a genuine pub experience. We will back here 100%. Signing off from the land down-under. P.S. the pulled mushroom chilli was a highlight!

Apparently the chef isn’t prepared for dinner (at 6 and then 7pm on a Thursday), so no food. People were being turned away. Bar manager seems nice. Rest of the bar staff are surely and almost rude.

The Dickens Tavern was one of the first but also the best restaurants I’ve visited in London. The food was very delicious and made by the chef Hassan who later introduced himself to us which was quite nice. In conclusion I‘d say it was a perfect dinner and I will certainly eat there again.

Perfect pub to stop and rest, enjoy a game, and meet new friends. Camillo is definitely a ray a sunshine that will bring you joy.

Nous y sommes allés le midi pour déjeuner , un peu d attente , fish and chips très bon et différentes petites choses à grignoter très bonnes également . Nous avons donc décidé d y retourner le soir boire un verre afin de vivre l expérience dans un véritable pub anglais avec diffusion d un match de foot . Et là grosse déception après avoir laissé notre verre et notre paquet de cigarette sur la table toute proche de la porte d entrée , nous sommes sortis fumer pendant 5 min , on se retourne verre et paquet de cigarette avaient disparu . Personne n’étant rentré , seul un serveur avait pu débarrasser la table car autour il n’y avait que quelques personnes au bar qui consommait leur propre verre . Les serveurs ont complètement nié en nous ignorant , genre on s’en fout vous êtes des touristes … il est clair que nous n’y retournerons jamais !

Good location right outside of the main exit from Paddington Station. Looks small from the outside, but is massive if you keep walking straight ahead past the first bar. Food is so-so, and you'll get better across the street at the Sawyers Arms.

£5 for a pint of coke LOL. I also went to other food a few weeks ago and it as told the restaurant was closed even though someone infront of me was ordering food. Apparently they’d be waiting too long. Wouldn’t recommend this gaf plenty of better boozers about

The server is more than friendly. Taking great care with its customers, the cuisine is very good and plentiful. We had a great time with our teenagers at their home. .....

Popped in for a bite to eat at lunch and to watch the football, the atmosphere was lovely and the bar staff very friendly and helpful, but the food was just not great. We had the steak and ale pie, the flavour wasn't great and only got a half "cup" of gravy at best. My friend ordered the burger and said the bacon was very fatty. I would go back for drinks and to watch sports but not for the food.

I used to work in this place, 1996, maybe 1997... I have only good memories. Best regards!
