The Dove in Hammersmith and Fulham

Great pub, with great history, in a great setting with a great view.

I adopted the place, small and cozy, with a view of the River Thames, and even a fireplace to warm up in this cold weather.

Hygiene warning: There are mice in this pub. They may be living in the cellar which is not subject to inspections. They hide in the ancient walls and drink from the drip trays under the kegs.

BRING BACK FRONTIER! I've been coming to the Dove for 10 years. Why the brewery has good rid of the best pint of frontier in London?! I know many who that was their sole reason to go to the Dove over the years. They have replaced it with Asahi, if you can believe that. A shame, they have lost a lot of local custom by dropping the beer.

One of my favourite riverside pubs in Hammersmith. This is especially true on a cold winters day when you’re lucky enough the get a spot by the fire at the front.

Fantastic and historic riverside pub. Fuller place. Outside seating is on a deck above the river. Rule Britannia was written here. Usually very crowded. I would suggest booking a table in advance for lunch or dinner.

We turned up for lunch to relaise i had booked the wrong day, being mid December the pub was deservedly very busy, we had a drink and sat in the bar area. We were quickly asked by Stuart if we'd like the next table that came up and it mightbe roughly 20mins, he was spot on and we were sat at the ideal tabel within 15 mins. We had a brillient meal and Sturat made sure we didn't go without throughout our stay. Excellent service, excellent food.

Amazing Sunday Roast! Beautiful, old historic pub. It is small though, if going for Sunday Roast or dinner you need to book in advance. If going for a pint and snack, go during the week in the afternoon.

Have visited the Dove many times before, but only recently had a sunday roast. The food and service were great. Lovely staff and atmosphere as usual. Always enjoy a visit!

Went for a Sunday roast last week. Staff were amazing and friendly and the food was delicious-great way to finish off the year. Will definitely be back.

Food was lovely, attentive staff at the start but then slowed down and we had to chase for the bill after giving up trying to place a dessert order. Lovely pub, nice atmosphere but please turn down the phone ringing level as it kept interrupting conversation and was a distraction as wasn't answered.

Brilliant on the terrace, weather permitting.

Staff were lovely and friendly. Lovely inside and great atmosphere. Starters good - camembert and octopus. Mains were very underwhelming which is a shame as we had been looking forward to a delicious lunch! We ordered a crab and mussle linguine. Mussles were rubbery like they had been microwaved and the crab was only in the sauce (so no actual crab meat). This arrived much later than all other meals, and tasted dry. Not a very tasty meal. The pies were very light on meat and pretty tastless. Would not return for food. But would for drinks and nibbles.

Called in for a pint. Lovely pub. Very friendly staff and customers. I would return if I was in this area again.

I stopped in this place for a beer, the pub is gorgeous, very old and super welcoming. They have a fireplace where it is very pleasant to stop for a break and relax. Super recommended!

Esto fue aparte de un camarero - Stuart, él era fantástico, muy atento y parecía estar llevando todas las cubiertas él mismo. ¡Yo cuidaría de Stuart si fuera el propietario!

Guy running the floor was rude and kept approaching us to complain but without presenting any options for us to resolve the situation he seems to have imagined we created by having 1 adult over our booking. He soured the atmosphere and aggressively cornered parts of our group 1 by 1 to complaon about an issue he caused. On top of this the food was average and expensive.

El tipo que manejaba el piso era grosero y se nos acercaba para quejarse, pero sin presentar ninguna opción para que resolviéramos la situación que parece haber imaginado que creamos al tener 1 adulto sobre nuestra reserva. Agrió el ambiente y agresivamente acorraló a partes de nuestro grupo 1 por 1 para quejarse de un problema que causó. Además de esto la comida era promedio y caro.

Buenos recuerdos en este lugar! Sin embargo, al igual que muchas de las opiniones más recientes, algunos de los funcionarios tardaron en ser útiles. Tardamos un rato en traer cubiertos / platos claros / traer salsas. No parecía muy interesado o comprometido. Sin embargo, Stuart fue la excepción y básicamente parecía estar cuidando de todo el pub él mismo. ¡Muy buen tipo, lo cuidaría si fuera el propietario!

Another "pub" that doesn't want to be a pub, but wants to be a restaurant. Popped in here during a walk along the Thames path, and expected to be able to (as I have done several times before) chose a table outside (as it was a nice day), then go up to the bar and order some food. Only to be informed by a staff member when I queried it (I got asked if I had a reservation when I entered, which I thought was odd, and the tables were laid out like it was a restuarant) the whole place is now table service only, which I hate. I swiftly left and headed back to the Rutland Arms, which is a pub which is still a pub. What a shame as it used to be a nice pub......when it was actually a pub. No wonder the place was empty.

While on a business trip to England, I came to "Dove" not far from my accommodation and had a quiet evening. It had the best atmosphere of any restaurant I've been to in London and the food was delicious. In particular, the beer was the best I had during my two weeks in London. It was a business trip this time, but I will come back someday when I visit London again with my wife.^^

Didn’t accept cash which was disappointing Particularly as they had issues with card machines which took ages to resolve.

The fish in the fish n chips tasted dry and muddy but the few chips that came with it were quite good. The calamari was more batter that squid and what little squid there was was a bit chewy. Service was friendly enough and efficient.

A really old school pub that are quite rare these days. The only thing that's updated is the food and the drinks but everything else just oozes with character. I love it.

A very cute Dickensian riverside pub. Absolutely tiny but that adds to the charm and why it's made the list of 20 must visit pubs in London. They have a section round the back serving food with great river views. Lovely spot for Sunday roast but you do need to book in advance and avoid peak hours if possible.

I made a reservation as soon as it opened. Since it was a bad day, we were assigned a cozy table near the fireplace. One of my family members was not feeling well and I am grateful to the server for being considerate of her. The French fries at Fish & Chips were delicious and the side dishes were also delicious. The roast chicken was tender and delicious served with mushrooms, vegetables, and beans. Americano and cappuccino are the best coffees I had in London. Desserts are also great. The exquisite combination of orange sherbet and chocolate is fantastic. It was the last meal of our 10 day trip to London and it was so good! Oh and Mounika was so friendly. They treated us wonderfully and made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks again for her kind smile!

Ask for Suart, the kindest person I ever met. Came today with my disabled mum and help we received from him was out of this world. Beautiful place, small Nd cosy with delicious food and fast service.

Delightful little pub lovely views over the river, limited seating but not that busy on a Wednesday evening. Highly recommended.

Old independent English pub, welcoming and easy going atmosphere, beautiful terrace overlooking the Thames. Good simple and typical food, very kind service, the staff makes you feel at home. A place to return to!

Beautiful setting on the Thames for a sunny Friday afternoon. Not too packed like ither pubs bearby. The food was OK. Spatchcock chicken had to be returned once due to being undercooked. It came back slightly better but still very pink enough to not eat the whole thing. I might just be paranoid but red drumsticks didn't feel safe to eat

Very small pub, with a very warm and authentic atmosphere, efficient and friendly service, typical dishes of British cuisine, in a fantastic setting on the banks of the Thames.

Was super excited to go to the Dove today hadn’t been in ages. Have nothing bad to say about the service or the place that was as good as always. However £19 for this burger was pretty ridiculous and I felt pretty ripped off. It was dry, flavorless and incredibly small. Considering the price point you would expect a lot better from a pub notorious for its food. Really let down and won’t be back for food any time soon.

Three of us visited The Dove one Monday evening, in September. It was warm and sunny, and we were not expecting to sit on the terrace as this is an incredibly popular pub. I would highly recommend pre-booking as it gets extremely busy. The Dove has different seating levels. The entrance - via a narrow walkway - incorporates the bar and a cosy seating area. Climb a few steps to lead into the main restaurant. Continue into the enclosed conservatory and then onto the 2 outside terraces one above the other, that have fabulous views over the River Thames, Hammersmith Bridge, etc. The staff are friendly and welcoming, providing an excellent service. Dogs on leads are permitted. There's limited street parking nearby, but most visitors walk. We had a range of drinks, 1 starter, 3 mains including seafood linguine, plaice and spatchcock chicken, plus 2 desserts. The total was £141. The food was hot and delicious. My only criticism would be that the ladies loo should have a decency blind to cover the 'frosted' window to minimise embarrassment! It was a great place to visit.

Such a badly managed pub. Friday night 1700 and one person behind the bar. People queuing out of the door. Gas low on kegs so pouring slowly. None of the staff smile at this pub. What is wrong? They need mystery shopping feedback.

Best Guinness I've ever tried in London

The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The table service outside overlooking the river was very good and professional. A good selection of beers too.

Visité a mi esposa para almorzar el viernes por la tarde a las 2 pm , quería comer y un par de bebidas , el tipo que nos mostró a nuestra mesa solo estaba interesado en el tiempo que estábamos comiendo , una vez que dijimos que estábamos comiendo nos dejó sentarnos en una mesa lo suficientemente grande para nuestros platos , esperamos 10 minutos para hacer nuestro pedido , ya teníamos nuestras bebidas , una vez que pedimos el camarero regresó y dijo que estaban fuera de stock para lo que pedimos , así que elegimos otra cosa , luego regresó y dijo que estaban fuera de stock para otra cosa que pedimos , así que decidimos comer en otro lugar , pagamos por nuestras bebidas pero al despedirse del jefe del restaurante simplemente refunfuñó algo, mal servicio al cliente en general

Very nice pub, on the riverside, with both inside and outside seating. The staff were friendly and the service was perfect. I had a Cottage Pie which was very good, looked fresh, and a nice pint.

Poor service - repeatedly had to ask for attention eg menus, to order even a knife. Poor food. Fish and chips - chips thin and greasy. Fish batter crisp but made with some unpleasant ingredient. Chicken salad unimaginative and absolutely drowning in mayonnaise/dressing. Nasty cappuccino, tasted like instant coffee.

it was such a beautiful experience, our waiter Stuart, was very funny and gentle. I advice everyone to come here.

Another cashless dump. Why do businesses wish to exclude people who use cash. Avoid this place.

What can you say little Gem stuck out of the way down the little side road but one of the best pubs in Hammersmith along the river walk .I used to drink in this establishment 40 years ago and it has not changed one bit which is really really good 10 out 10 please play it a visit

Staying in Hammersmith, we came across this historic pub while walking along the Thames one evening. Quiet and relaxed atmosphere, it has a small terrace overlooking the river. Excellent food and not at all banal. Attentive and friendly service. Reservation required!

Away from popular routes. In the cruelly English, unforced, unpretentious, hard-to-imitate atmosphere, the good old style is by no means common. Full of locals and their great riding.

Very famous place to go. Old pub with a view tables outside looking on the river. Dinner was great and the service too.

We visited the Dove for a Sunday Roast and we were incredibly pleased with our experience. The food was delicious, the beers were great and the service was even better! Stuart served us and made the dining experience one of a kind. We enjoyed our evening and appreciated Stuarts humour and amazing service. We were visiting from Australia but will definitely be back next time we’re in the country.

Nice pub nice beer, bad food. Ordered just some crispy calamari that end up to be 4 greasy baby squid (cheap imitation of squid) with some asian coleslaw (so carrots and onion with vinegar nothing else).. Disaster, luckily I always order the starter and wait to taste how it is before to order the main (I obviously left after that, I left there 2 of the 4 baby squid and some butter left over from some fish and chips that wnd up with my baby squid, real sad) nobody asked me about my experience so I paid I left never to eat there anymore.. Easy easy easy, really bad this is one of the best looking pub in west london.. Shame nobody cares in this kitchen.

One of the oldest, most established and high quality pubs in London

Absolutely disgusted by the attitude of the person stood at the door to the outside space abruptly told "there's no tables outside" before we stepped foot outside to look! Fair enough if you're busy but there's ways of telling people. Told, yes told, to sit at the small area at the front... Where? On someone's knee! Much better places along the other side of the river, don't waste your time

I'll return as I think I made the mistake of visiting on a very warm and sunny weekend afternoon, whereby every good seat was taken. I'll try to visit later on a cloudy Sunday so I can enjoy the rear garden.

A haven of peace, tranquility and civilisation in a brilliant location with a fabulous view, good beer and excellent food.

Came here for a work dinner last month, the food was spectacular and the service was better. Our waiter Stuart was amazing all night, so friendly and great at his job! Thank you, we will be back (for the steak and polenta in particular!).

Just popped in for a pint. Very friendly staff, good selection of beers and a great atmosphere. A wonderful pub with a long, interesting history. We will definitely return for a meal.

Amazing from start to finish, cod and chips were probably the best I have had in years , normally lovely batter coating under seasoned tasteless cod. This was totally the opposite... lovely battered cod not hiding the shortcomings of a disinterested chef. This is lovely from start to finish ... And the chips... To die for ... Service was 10 out of 10

The food was pretty average. The place is very cute with a nice terrace. I didn't like that I asked for olive oil for my food, to make it taste better, and they have me frying vegetable oil instead 🤢

Great pub however there were 2 issues. At the time of visit this afternoon there was ko real ales on offer, secondly the seats near the toilets had a smell surrounding them so luckily we didn't sit there for long

Just God awful food - such a shame for an amazing pub that used to be super reliable. The driest most overcooked fish I have ever had, and the weirdest starters that wouldn’t be out of place at 4am at a kebab shop. The chef has clearly given up and the prices (£50 per head) are comparable to proper foodie pubs like the Watermans Arms - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Bad, over priced food. We had the salmon (overcooked) with shrimp salad (tiny prawns drowned in mayo on a lettuce leaf) and the burger (over done), no tomato but instead an awful burger sauce. This came with a handful of chips. I wish I had the fish and chips as that looked half decent. All in all very disappointing. A shame as the riverside view is great, and the wines not too bad either. Go for a drink, go elsewhere to eat.

Great place for a meal after a river side walk and before going to a show

Fantastic old pub, located in Hammersmith right next to the Thames. In the pub, "Rule Britannia" was written by the poet James Thomsen and the melody from 1740 by Thomas Arne. In the pub, the original hangs on the wall. The pub is a "must" you have to visit, good atmosphere and good food.l

My favourite local pub full of character and charisma

Beautiful and nostalgic pud/restaurant famed for its clientele, William Morris ( lived next-door), Graham Greene, Dylan Thomas, James Thompson (Rule, Britannia), AP Herbert ( the water gypsies), Ernest Hemmingway, JK Rowling and so may more including my son and I for a father's day roast.

Excellent food, service and riverside location. Highly recommend!
