We went for our dinner on Christmas Day and the food was incredible! All 3 courses were perfectly cooked - so glad we chose this restaurant for our Christmas dinner. Wonderful staff who made our day special from the moment we arrived. Thank you so much for a perfect day!

As always warm friendly welcome, we use The Fox & Hounds as a middle pointing for big family get together. All staff are friendly and attentive, food excellent and 5 of us with allergies, nothing never too much trouble.

My friend and I had a lovely time, the food was good. Service was a bit slow but it was very busy so expected.

Family Christmas dinner, Layla was terrific!!

Lunch menu selected, and not denying the food was tasty, but the price is ridiculous - even for Reading in 2024. Fairly modest 'Festive' sandwich at nearly £15. No salad, no fries or crisps.. we spent £43 on two sandwiches, a soft drink and a portion of fries to share. Didn't exactly feel full. I eat out a lot.. this is expensive for modest quality and such a miserly portion. Also had to attract the serving staff on several occasions, rather than them being attentive - and when I went to pay, three of them were chatting and laughing in an empty bar rather than serving the tables. Nice venue and food, shocking prices and mediocre service.

The atmosphere was warm and cozy, the staff were welcoming, attentive, friendly and professional. Our party had, the pie of the day, the sausage and mash and the fish and chips, all of which were tasty, well cooked and presented and served piping hot. The draught Butcombe beers were properly kept and thoroughly enjoyable. The management and staff should be very proud of what they have here and I will certainly be back soon!

Twelve of us for our annual book club dinner. Atmosphere, food,service all excellent, plus 25% off food, with my loyalty card, as it was Wednesday. Couldn't fault it and will be back next year. Very well managed pub.

I go there to drink and morris dance or to attend a function, like an annual party. Lovely ambient in the summer. Very accrssible from the M4.

Second time this month here. Mum's 90th birthday (35 people including kids) and then a thank-you to my daughter yesterday for organising Mum's Do. Brilliant both times, good food, great atmosphere, thanks to Chris and the team, especially Maddie who served us on both occasions.

We met up with friends and enjoyed a really lovely lunch. The food was really good and the staff were very friendly and efficient. The pub atmosphere is lovely. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. Altogether a great experience.

Another fabulous meal at The Fox and Hounds tonight. Everything was delicious - homemade pie, burger and plant burger and a wonderful homemade doggie dinner for the hound. Great crumble and ice creams for dessert, buzzy atmosphere and the usual super warm welcome from Chris. We always look forward to coming here and it never disappoints!

Visiting in the area and chose this lovely pub for a late afternoon Sunday roast from reviews and it certainly lived up to our expectations. Good food and service with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Liked it so much we stayed in for the fun and well attended Sunday night quiz.

Traveling up the M4 today we decided to take a midway stop for a Sunday lunch- and what a great find! A top Sunday roast -the best pub roast we’ve had in a few years (we have them often). To add to this, it is decorated beautifully for christmas, had a lovely atmosphere and staff were all so lovely and friendly- thank you especially to Maddie. We will definitely be back on subsequent trips.

Came here for a family meal on a Saturday evening. We all commented on how beautiful the Christmas decorations were, really lovely cosy traditional upper class gastro- pub. Our waitress Maddie was absolutely first class, she had us smiling and laughing and we had the dishes she recommended and were really happy. Another wonderful evening at the Fox and Hounds, Theale. The food and drinks were very tasty, food piping hot and drinks lovely and cold. I wish I had taken pics because it looked great. Some people might think it a bit expensive but I think it's basically in line with other similar places so, personally, I'm not complaining. The best thing of course was the food. I had humble sausage and mash but it was as good as it gets for sausage and mash and no complaints whatsoever. I would gladly have it again if we are in the area. (We aren't too close by, just meeting some friends and their food was excellent too). Atmosphere was lovely. We didn't notice that a few hours had passed but probably as much to do with the company as well as the pub. All in all I would genuinely recommend it. Lovely place. (Also just be aware the cost was inclusive of a shared starter and shared dessert with my wife on top of a main each and drinks).

Nice food, service, beer and cider, toilets and atmosphere. What more can you ask for! I was a bit greedy and couldn't finish the ciabatta bread I'd ordered as a side to accompany fish and chips, so I asked for a doggy bag to take it home. They wrapped it up nicely in foil, so I was able to finish and enjoy it later. PS plus it's 25% off food on Wednesday with the Butcombe loyalty card. Great stuff!

Came here for Sunday lunch (5 of us). One of us has a dairy allergy and our waitress Maddie went above and beyond, even highlighting the dairy free desserts before handing us the dessert menu! She was so considerate and caring with little things like that without us even asking, and nothing ever felt like too much effort for her, making it just such a pleasant dining experience for us all. We had all travelled from different places for over an hour to get to the Fox and Hounds, and having Maddie as our waiter on top of the insanely good food was well worth it. We’ll be coming back for sure! 🫶🏽

I came here with my family for Sunday dinner and myself and brother both have multiple allergies. Emily was our server who treated us so well, she made sure all our food was okay and was polite throughout our meal. She really improved our time at Fox and Hounds. The food was so lovely and catered to our allergies without a fuss, and the atmosphere was very family friendly. Definitely recommend and will be back again.

My sister and I both have birthdays this week so we booked lunch for four as a double celebration. Food was good, but we were unable to sample pudding as too full from generous portions. Fish and chips particularly delicious. Service very friendly.

The food was quite honestly the best I have had in a Gastro-type pub for many years. Prices we reasonable, however given the quality of the food in retrospect it was excellent value. Our server, Emily, was an absolute delight to deal with. Emily was extremely attentive, clear, and articulate, warm and humorous. We started with: White bait and squid Scotch eggs (not your usual scotch egg, amazingly tasty) Our mains: Fishcakes Steak – ordered medium – delivered the perfect medium. We went Monday night, which was nice and quiet, not empty though, still a great atmos. Highly recommended.

Overall the food was very good but let down by incredibly slow service - 55 minutes for a main course - sadly this means it was our first and probably our only visit as things like that put off your customers

Had a really lovely lunch at The Fox and Hounds today. The food was delicious and hot and the pub was warm and inviting. From the sage and onion scotch egg, sausage and mash, bubble ‘n squeak with eggs and ham through to the mouthwatering sticky date pudding, we couldn’t fault it. There is always a friendly atmosphere in the pub and I feel very lucky to have this gem on my doorstep. Thanks Chris
