Stopped off on the way home for some food, great atmosphere and very frendly

Recently move near by called in for a steak pie peas and gravy lunch and wasn’t disappointed decent size portion wonderful atmosphere with log fire the landlord very amenable fabulous selection of ales Tetleys, Timothy Taylor’s landlord, Timothy Taylor landlord dark, nail makers mango IPA, saucery India pale ale session ale ,Kirkstall brewery virtuous, wainwright and others plus lagers will be back over the festive season highly recommend

Unfortunately I only had the chance to have one beer and there were eight pumps on and seven were brand new to me. The beer I had was in excellent condition. I can't comment on the food but I was there about 5pm on a Tuesday and it was very busy with all outside seating taken but it was a lovely day. Its a lovely multi roomed immaculate pub. If you are staying at Hawkhills conference centre then don't attempt the walk across the fields. Its over an hour and I don't think the paths have been used in twenty years. There's an hourly bus service from the end of the drive but the last bus back is before 6pm. Will definitely be going back with better planning.

Called in on a Sunday with my (small) walking group for food and drinks. Decent beer selection - my Acorn Barnsley Gold was well kept and perfectly served. I had the chicken and bacon pie with peas and gravy, which was delicious. Just the thing for a mid-walk snack. The steak and black pudding pie when down well with a couple of the others.

Great pub serving fabulous beers and an extensive pie and peas menu. Also a takeaway Indian street food van serving delicious food too.

Just had a drink here. Was very pleasant. Will go here again.

Called for a drink after a lovely afternoon walk.....Charged £3+ for a pint of soda & lime felt like a rip off.

Was quite shocked to see a refurb has stripped so much character out of the place, not remained in keeping with the history or ensured to remain sympathetic with the building. A bit of an interior design pet project that has copied the largely outdated grey/bland refurbs of the last decade. It has sterilised the environment so much that it barely feels like a pub at all anymore. Images displayed on Google are no longer representative. Arrived or a drink. £5 for Landlord is a little above average cost for the area, condition was good enough at least. Clearly plenty of other people feel differently but it didn't tick many boxes for me.

Nice atmosphere fairly busy for a Monday evening. Pie and peas were very tasty and filling. Cask beer was very good

Love, love, love The George. A proper traditional pub with not a TV in sight. Great choice of drinks including their homemade Watson & Wyatt's Gin. The homemade pies are delicious too and if you fancy pizza, Nomadic Pizza are there on Friday nights too. Dean and the gang are super welcoming, especially of dogs 🐶

Walked out poor poor service. Was ignored by the bar person. Ignorant.

Carol singing made our day at the George special and to be offered nibbles was a kind touch.

Went twice for christmas sing etc for christmas. Great atmosphere very well run. Free sandwiches ample for each table . Bar staff sadly v inexperienced but did get served but busy day. V enjoyable harmonised singing. Everyone v sociable from all around the area. Gd xmas celebration . Thankyou.

A very happy discovery. A proper little country pub with some decent ales on handpull, their own gin range named after their rescue dog Watson, and a cosy atmosphere. Food is limited to homemade pies with peas and gravy. These are pretty good but it would be nice to have an alternative. There seems to be plenty going on here and we made a further on a recent Sunday lunchtime for a drink and were pleased to see a mix of people also just having a drink - relatively unusual in this area.

Amazing pie, peas and gravy which are very special and highly recommended 😋 unfortunately that is the only thing on the menu.🥲 The place was buzzing on a Friday evening, brilliant atmosphere.

Visually ok, not a lot of choice bottle wise. Others reviews raving about the best pie and peas ever, well, at £11 it'd better be. One for the locals I guess, of which there were many with a few oddballs amongst their number.

Nice n cosy place with friendly staff. Dog friendly pub. Visited by a lot of local families where one can see from a toddler to the old folks. Local ales are worth a try.

Warm and welcoming dog-friendly pub. Great choice of ales, lagers and ciders. The pies here are said to be fantastic but we didn't eat them on this occasion. Log fire, lovely area, lovely staff whats not to like.

Friendly staff, yummy home made pie and peas.. and of course Hendersons relish to accompany them. Great choice of Gins too. Lots going on throughout the year, including the latest Denby challenge with entertainment to boot. All in all, a welcoming dog friendly pub for all and worth a visit or few.

Went for lunch Saturday, lovely pub great beer, had pie n peas with gravy, have to say it was absolutely delicious proper home made pie with good old fashioned soaked peas. Only negative is the price @£9.95 for pie n peas I think it's a little expensive perhaps put some mash on there would make more of a meal than a snack. Saying that I would definitely return. Oh n Watson the dog, great character. 😁

It's a friendly homely local pub. Nice warm and cosy in the main bar. They didnt have many staff at Saturday lunch time so service was pleasant but a little slow. The meat and potato pie was excellent but not cheap. Good beer though. So I would definitely go back.

Visited this evening for the Nomadic Pizza Van. Staff are friendly, and it’s a great little pub - parking a little hard. The pizzas were amazing from this brilliant little van too.

Simplistic home made pies, mushy peas and gravy, couldn't be faulted. Washed down with a couple of pints of Timothy Taylor's, who needs gourmet cooking. Very friendly and welcoming staff, highly recommended.

Faultless. We went on Saturday afternoon and stayed for hours. We went back today and had pizza from the visiting Nomadic Pizza wagon then their own pies and peas. Location perfect. Service - perfect. Do it - you won't be disappointed.

Lovely outdoor space and Covid compliant, pies were perfect, only slight niggle was no high chair for my daughter but we managed!!

Reliably great pub with great staff and clientele, excellent choice of beers and well above average pie and peas. They've pulled out all the stops during covid- whilst I can't imagine how difficult it has been for them, I think its actually better. Full marks.

Always love going to The George; felt so safe there during the July to November respite - and so glad that when I'm able to visit again, I shall not have to encounter the author of the recent post who gave one star for such a ridiculous and petty complaint.

With one way signs in the garden I won't even give this pub my custom. in these times every business needs to appear friendly and welcoming, a raft of instructions and directions, even outside where as far as am aware there are are no "guidelines" about direction its good for the owners to reply. i also look forward to not returning as well. I am sure they dont need my money. remember. one unhappy customer, tells ten of their friends.
