Adorable little fish and chip shop. Everyone was so friendly and the food was great. The fish was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The chips were crispy and fluffy.

The website and photos suggest it might be a bigger or grander place - it is a choppy with a few tables inside and a few outside under a cover. However the staff are friendly and the food lives up to the expectations of good chips. It seemed pretty popular even on a normal Wednesday night. Eating in, it’s a nice surprise to have proper plate, cutlery and table service. Sauces on the table in a holder. Even a glass for your canned drink. Eating in is more expensive and it’s hard to tell how much it’ll cost, my large chips, saveloy and a sprite was £14 - not cheap but the warmth (both staff and venue) and ease meant it was definitely worth it.

I was expecting really good things from this place but was left feeling rather disappointed. I ordered plaice and chips which came with salad and also a min eral water. The batter I felt was too thick and crispy, and the fish although looked good was very thin. The chips didn't taste great either. The staff were very friendly couldn't fault them. The total bill was £23 including a 12.5% service charge and didn't feel it was worth it.

I’ve tried fish and chips at three different famous restaurants in London, but this place is by far the best! The cod was incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and had a super light and crispy batter that was simply divine. The potatoes were just as impressive—crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, cooked to perfection. The accompanying salad was fresh and flavorful, a perfect complement to the meal. The service was outstanding as well. Our waitress was exceptionally kind and friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The service was fast, and everything was served piping hot. This is hands down the best fish and chips I’ve had in London! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly exceptional meal.

I had to try a meal here, having seen coverage by You Tubers. I live in a seaside town, with many fish and chips shops, but there isn't one to touch the quality served here . I had the rock, chips and peas, freshly cooked, and generous portion. I can thoroughly recommend a visit here Fish and chips to remember!

Food is okay but they charge 12.5% as service charge at the check out, which is not stated in the menu. I was on a date so I didn't want to make a problem what what you are doing is illegal. Take out and eat in price is already different, but the hidden charge is unfair. My bill was 40£, with about 5£ that should not have been charged, basically robbed 5£...

Enjoyed a very tasty lunch here yesterday. I have had many many pieces of battered fish in my life. The battered rock that I had yesterday was the best battered fish I have ever eaten. My partner’s plaice fillet was enormous and delicious. Tasty fish, super-light crunchy batter, no hint of oil at all. Loved the house-made tartare sauce and the side salad. Service was good. Only disappointment was the chips which were nice thick-cut potatoes that were okay but lacking the crispy exterior that makes a good chip great. We left most of our chips on the plate, not because they were bad but because we couldn’t possibly eat the huge serving of food we were given and the chips were our least favoured thing on the plate. Overall, though, a really good lunch with absolutely stunning fish. We will return.

On holliday from Amsterdam and wanted to try fish and chips. The first time I ever tried fish and chips, and it was absolutely amazing! The food was incredible—perfectly cooked and so flavorful. The service was outstanding, with the friendliest and kindest staff you could ask for. Highly recommend!

So many chippies to choose from in London and I’m so glad I found this gem! A cozy place with friendly service & phenomenal fish and chips! Generous portions (large cod) at a fair price. I have a peanut allergy & was happy that they don’t use peanut oil. Wish we had a place like this in Philadelphia.

I gave 3 stars not because the food was not good. On the contrary, it was Delicious!! The problem is the price difference between the menu and what you pay at the checkout! They save you from imaginary costs! I got almost 10 pounds worth between what I calculated and what I paid. I don't like being caught off guard and that's what happened. Be careful when paying and double-check your receipt!

The food is always excellent. Whether you prefer your fish grilled or fried in crispy light batter, it is always cooked to perfection. The chips always have a crispy crunch, and I love the salad that accompanies my meal. If you're feeling like going all out, try the large, but you'll probably suffice with the regular / medium size. It's been somewhere I have been regularly visiting for many years, and if you've got friends or family in tow, definitely somewhere to take them to try Fish & Chips. Probably the best Fish & Chip shop in London.

You can't say no to good fish and chips and the Golden Chippy does some of the best! We've had takeout and eaten in here and either way it's great nosh. Portions are not stingy. If you're not hungry, maybe just go for a battered sausage, which should be crispy and crunchy on the outside. They do more than just cod so try the other fish options too. They have drinks if you want. You can just get tap water if you're sitting in to eat and don't want anything else. Usually everything is freshly fried, but if coming towards the end of the day (like 15mins before closing) they might have started turning down the fryers so might not be able to fry new stuff. Busiest Fri - Sun understandably, so call ahead if you don't want to wait around. You'll often see locals milling about waiting for their orders those evenings and it's not too long if you don't mind a wait. Even if you call on one of those days you might want to give it 5mins extra or be prepared to wait a bit. The staff are nice and up for a natter. Good Friday is the busiest day so please be nice if you're ordering then!

I’ve ordered takeaway from this place several times, and I have to say, the quality of the food is consistently impressive. Another London visit , another visit to the Golden Chippy and again a dining experience to savour! Staff as always very friendly and welcoming and this is no frills and fancies just good honest fresh food from the best Fish and Chip bar I have eaten in. Chris Kanizi welcomed us with open arms, he and as amazing family always make us feel so appreciated.

Look no further, this is by far the best eatery in London. Amazing food, lovely staff and an owner who takes a lot of pride in his shop. Will recommend this to anyone who will visit London. All the best from the Netherlands!

I had an amazing time here at The Golden Chippy !! Was able Discover literal GOLD two days before my trip back to NYC!! I ordered the grilled Haddock with Chips and salad. My Boyfriend got fried Cod with Chips and Salad. The owners were debating with a Canadian couple about English Potato’s - VERY IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE!!! IT IS NOT FRIES! ITS AN ENGLISH CHIP! 🤬 All in all wonderful experience, amazing service & WE WILL BE BACK <3 It’s out go to from here on

This was my favourite fish and chip shop for years and sadly this place has now become near to inedible. My last roughly 5 visits have all been a let down but being such a longstanding customer I give them the benefit of the doubt but after this time, sadly never again. There are no crunchy chips anymore, just a soggy bag of second rate chips at a very expensive price. Brockley Jack is amazing, Ken’s in Herne Hill is amazing (and cheaper) I do not know whether it’s because the sons have taken the shop over or with all the popularity they have taken there eye off the ball but I beg you guys to actually try the chips and tell me you are happy with them. They are just soggy, no crunch whatsoever. I’ve asked to wait for fresh before, I’ve also had the ones as soon as I walk in, now days it’s always the shame. Massive shame! I was going to give a negative review last time but because I’ve been coming for years, I thought I will give them one last ditch attempt. And many locals I encounter feel the same. Fish & Chips is no longer a super cheap meal so please put some love and care into it again and warrant the price that you command.

After a walk from the stadium after a football match we walked past this great place. Superb service and fantastic taste. We can never pass this place again when visiting Greenwich from the Netherlands.

If you haven't eaten fish and chips here, don't say you ate fish and chips in London. The taste is incredible, the attention is incredible, the atmosphere is incredible. For 20 years, everything has been as wonderful as the first day. I would like to thank the boss, Ms. Zerrin and the entire team for this taste.

I had my first ever Fish and Chips at The Golden Chippy and it was very good! The batter is crispy and the cod almost melts in your mouth, the salad was also very good and I liked the texture the chips had. The staff was very friendly as well, I asked which fish should I try for my first ever Fish and Chips and the young man serving us promptly suggested I try the cod. We didn’t have to wait much for our food either, so I can recommend The Golden Chippy if you’re staying at the nearby Hotel and don’t really want to wait long for dinner. Was excited to try because of all the great reviews… maybe we are missing something that everyone else is getting about this place. Chips were soggy and not a grain of salt. Asked for beans on a bean and cheese potato and only got cheese and again, no salt or seasonings - potato was very bland. Nuggets are great and if I didn’t know better I would say they buy them from McDonald’s because they are exact. Fish was super soggy after the 2 minute walk to our hotel. Disappointing honestly.

Unless you’re starving two standard size fish and chips portions are enough for 3 people. It’s a small restaurant with 3 tables inside and about 3 outside under the heat lamp.

Definitely the best fish and chips we have had in London 🏆 Came by after a brunch, and was too full to have 2 portion so we shared one large one - and man did we hope we have the stomach to go for another.. The large cod was properly large, and came with a good amount of chips and salad too. The fish was the thickest in flesh I have ever seen, a proper fish and chips 🤤 Definitely one worth making your way for despite it being a little out of central London! 💯

Solid establishment with super friendly staff. Owners are on hand and front of shop. The fish is absolutely top quality and fried to perfection . Chips are also perfect with a crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside. Mushy peas were also flavoursome. Value for money and would recommend to others anyday. No wonder it makes Business/Food Insider's list of "Best of London" Fish and Chips lists regularly.

Having lived in England for several years, I can say that my expectations were not met. £25 for fish and chips. The fish tastes watery, and the salad is flavorless. The fries are just fries—nothing special. For half the price, I’ve had much tastier meals in London, not to mention places in the UK near the sea. The establishment is clean and tidy, as are the utensils and dishes. The staff is friendly.

Chem is an absolute GEM! Loved the food and I’m not fond of fish at all. LOL Let him talk you into trying the Rock - it rocks!

After being in London for a day, I finally ate fish and chips. A friend recommended it as the best restaurant in London. I happened to have some spare time for dinner so I came to try it. The fried fish was very crispy. As for the taste, I can only say that it is not unpalatable. The skin is crispy and the meat is tender, but it is not as delicious as expected. The fried chicken is just average. The fries were pretty good too, the portions were a bit big. I’ve tasted London’s famous products.

Nothing special, if you ask me. I didn’t like the leftover batter on my plate. The chips were tasteless. And paying £20 for this? You’ve got to be kidding! Although, I must say the service was friendly. P.S. I believe the reviews here are seriously inflated and overrated

It’s a great chippy, so much so I’ve actually travelled across London and becomes part of a trip to Greenwich (the highlight) regularly. Great food great prices and nice service. Not a lot of seating inside

Shopping in the area, friends said it was a must do. Inside is very simple, we sat in the outside area and got our orders in. The menu is vast and you can order most fish. My haddock was in a golden colour batter,incredibly crispy, no grease and was piping hot, inside was firm, chunky fish, served with salad and delicious chips. I also tried a scampi, it was the best I’ve ever had, fresh, so crispy and full of the meat, mmmm. All washed down with a mug of tea, this was a great lunch. Under 40 quid for two, great value.

I’m convinced their Southern-Fried-Chicken has magic seasoning, it’s beautifully crispy, succulent and I can’t remember a time in my life when I had this good tasting chicken. We landed in Greenwich and visited the market which had a lot of different crafts booths, various store fronts and very nice deserts, the market was buzzing. We looked up the traditional fish and chips as our appetites started to grow. Trip advisor had a 5 star rated restaurant about a 15 minute walk away, so of course we had to get our steps in. We arrived at a quaint small spot located on the corner with a few outside tables. We ordered our meal and to our surprise, it was actually hot and very good!!! Most of the fish and chip restaurants we'd had previously was kinda disappointing because the fries or chips had been like warm at best along with the fish. This place actually made it fresh and it was by far the best fish and chips we've had so far!! We tried the recommended Rock fish which came out piping hot fish and finally some chips freshly cooked instead of just sitting in a warming pan waiting on a customer. One of the most important dish I needed to tick off my list traveling in UK was fish and chips because in Asia it’s never good. I do love that Golden Chippy is not located in a crowded neighborhood, is a small restaurant but cozy with warm kind friendly services and great portion of fish and chips ; finally tasted what good batter does , the fish was juicy and fresh this did not disappoint at all. I was so satisfied!

I was relaxing in London for a few days. After looking through the National Maritime Museum, I decided to have a late lunch at the Golden. It was an excellent choice! I went for the standard code, with mushy peas and curry sauce. It was delicious and left me stuffed. I sat outside in the covered pavement area, and the weather was very pleasant. The service was excellent. The bill was a bit punchy, but as an occasional treat worth it. Highly recommended!

So we visited the best fish and chips shop in Greenwich, a suburb of London. They sell fish and chips in two sizes, standard and large, and you can choose between cod, rockfish, skate, flounder, and flounder. If you do not request a specific fish, the most popular dish is cod. I ordered a large cod fish and chips and it took about 20 minutes to come out as the fish was fried right away. French fries are provided, of course, and a salad is also provided, making it a very filling meal. The size of the fried fish is approximately 20cm, and regardless of the length, the batter is golden and very golden brown. The characteristic feature is that there is not much space between the thick fish and the thin batter. The fat was completely gone and the cod meat was moist. Even though it was large enough for two people to share, I ate it all to myself. The French fries were not only crispy but fluffy and delicious. If you only eat fried fish, you will quickly get tired of the simple taste, so tartar sauce is essential. If you eat it with plenty of tartar sauce, it tastes like fish cutlet and reminds me of all the rice I never had. Working in area so thought I would try these. Wow some of the best fish and chips I have ever had. In fact probably the best. Well worth a visit if you are round Greenwich. Fish was cooked fresh amd spot on. Only small ship so gets busy. Worth the wait though, I like dry chips and these were spot on. Curry sauce was good. Give it a go will not disappoint.

We researched on line to find the best Fish & Chips in the Greenwich , London and found best reviews on Golden Chippy . Now I know why ; it was superb battered , delicate flavored fresh fish ; we had cod, haddock and rock fish so that we could sample the various types. Tender fish and crispy, but not greasy , all absolutely delicious. Nice salad and chips accompanied. They have beers and nice wine also. Our server , Cem was knowledgeable, so helpful and delightful. We came from Florida, USA and were exceeded in our expectations !! Wonderful restaurant, highly recommend !

The loss of stars was down to simple value for money at over £23 this was well over priced even for London. The food whilst tasting good didn’t reflect the cost. I was looking forward to traditional F&C on returning to Blighty so certainly got a reasonable cooked ‘thin’ cod fillet (supposed to be large) and a very mediocre portion of chips.

Good quality food but the portions are getting smaller and smaller. 3 portions were not enough and we had to order another portion to share. I remember when they used to serve many chips. 24£ each for a fast food seems expensive.

The fried cod is really delicious, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. With a little salt and pepper, it's quite satisfying. But the roasted chicken is a little bit spicy.
