What an awful experience. We are a family of 18 and booked for lunch on the 30th Dec 2024. We pre ordered food to make things easier but the whole experience was dreadful from start to finish. We were booked to eat at 12.30. First meal came out at 1.30 and the next meals came out over the following half an hour!!!!! The last meal came one hour and 45 mins after the first!!!! Disgraceful!!!! The food was disgusting, really cheap and nasty lamb shanks no bigger than ones thumb My sister and I spoke to the barman who became extremely aggressive towards us and blamed everything on his boss , who was not present that day No one minds paying good money for good service and food but this was taking the Micky. Did they think as a big group we wouldn't notice? Disgusting food and poor service, all paid over the odds for. Needless to say we will never be returning a D making sure as many people as possible know this!!! We spent over £500 for food and drinks!!

Have been coming here annually for many years as it’s midway for family to meet up. First impressions were as good as usual, the fires were lit and we headed to the bar to order drinks. Historically we have had a very warm welcome and enjoyed the hugely varied and interesting menu with lots of specials, local ingredients and unusual choices. Sadly, today, as a group of 9, we were overall hugely disappointed and won’t be rushing back. When we ordered drinks from the bar we realised no ginger ale available and soft drinks were all poured from individual cans and charged at ££ prices. The menu choice is now average at best - though there are vegan and vegetarian options alongside meat and fish. Several menu items weren’t available: lamb shank, whitebait and wagyu burger. We weren’t given table service, we ordered at the bar. One of our starters got missed. As food was delivered, the staff didn’t even seem to know what each dish was in order to deliver it to us. We had to help them identify some items!! Items we did order all tasted mass produced and deep fried (calamari particularly poor - best avoided). No evidence of home cooking/cheffing here anymore. We did not feel the food was good value for money. The vanilla ice cream tasted of nothing at all and chocolate sauce was added without asking our preferences (we wouldn’t have chosen it). The young staff seemed hassled and needed prompting throughout. The lady in charge, seemed to lack the etiquette of running a restaurant - not welcoming us, showing us to our table, discussing what was available (or not). We were even discouraged from having coffee at the end of our meal as “i can only make them one by one”. Overall, service was average and food was “ok”, but when we compare to how good it used to be it’s such a shame. It doesn’t feel the special place it used to be. It’s gone from feeling like a cosy gastro pub to a hungry horse.

Unfortunately will have to agree with the below review. It’s also similar to the review posted 15 hours before that, which goes to show this is not a one off. That was my 6 year old son who had his food LAST, an hour and a half after the first meal was brought out (baring in mind my 9 year old daughters children’s burger came out FIRST, so no excuse as to why both children’s meals weren’t brought out together) My son was so upset, he sat there watching everyone eat their food for over an hour and none of the staff even batted an eyelid to the situation. A bowl of chips was ‘complimentary’ for their mistake. Absolutely not good enough. I had my food third to last after waiting over an hour but before my 6 year old son and I couldn’t even eat it as I was so stressed due to this mis hap that was purely down to the staff’s mis communication which was admitted by one of the waitress's. This was the reason we PRE BOOKED. But it was all for nothing. We pre ordered desserts too but unfortunately due to the experience we had, all 18 of us decided not to have the deserts and left promptly! I will not be returning and I suggest that this is investigated as to why the service was so poor considering we pre booked everything and spent well over £300! No discounts were given, no apologies, nothing. Very poor customer service.

The food itself was okay, and the service was friendly, but unfortunately, it took 1 hour and 40 minutes for our order to arrive. The delay was due to a mistake in their booking system, they had to prioritise a large table of 17 people that didn’t show up as planned. While I understand these things happen and the staff did their best under the circumstances, it wasn’t our fault either. It would have been helpful if they provided updates during the wait instead of us having to ask after an hour for a status. I would suggest improving the booking system to prevent such situations in the future and ensuring there are enough staff to handle larger groups and meet every customer’s expectations, no matter if they are part of a big group or dining as a smaller party. Overall, the service was great, and I appreciate the effort they made to handle the situation, but the long wait time detracted from our visit.

Very disappointed in this place!!! We pre ordered as a family of 18. Food was slow and totally chaotic!!!! The youngest had his meal and hour after the first meal was brought out and the subsequent meals brought out haphazardly over the hour!!!! Having pre ordered food, one would expect a little more organisation but no!! When talking to the barman although pleasant at first when he realised we were not happy became belligerent and obtuse, blaming his boss for booking us in. (They had plenty of time to organise). Food wasn't great for the huge cost, pretty bland and nothing special. WILL NOT BE VISITING AGAIN

We visited this restaurant for our work Christmas meal, and it exceeded all expectations. The food was absolutely delicious, and the portions were generous—everyone left feeling full and satisfied. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. The location is easy to find, with plenty of parking available, which made the experience even more convenient. Overall, it had everything you could want for a great dining experience. Highly recommended!

The M5 was closed and we were forced to leave it following the diversion and getting very hungry we decided to stop here ordered a drink then asked about food only to be told sorry the chef has gone home asked if he could do us anything at all and Steve the landlord said what do you want asked if he could do pie and chips he just replied it wont be fast the oil will be cold it will take some time, great service and having to wait in such a beautiful place sat by a roaring wood fire was no hardship. Seemingly very soon venison pie and mountain of chips was in front of me beautifully cooked and far more than i could eat we willingly spent maybe the next hour chatting with Steve and his wife . I have not felt so welcome in a pub for many many years i will be going back to the golden heart no doubt about it in fact i will not ever use this road again without calling in for something to eat and drink - A+ in every way i recommend you try it

Cozy and ambient little place with comfy seats, a real fire, great staff who are helpful, polite and knowledgable. A party of seven and all of us enjoyed our meals throughly. Seven year old nephew said his fish and chips was better than the seaside, and the wagyu burger I had was very tasty and soft beef on a toasted bun. Would return and recommend supporting this business, especially during the current multi-year roadworks.

We had a very small wedding on a filthy wet Monday afternoon which had proven to be one of the most stressful things we’d ever done. Torrential rain and closed roads meant that we nearly missed our ceremony, so we just really hoped the celebratory dinner would be lovely. And it really was! A roaring log fire (perfect!), a full vegan menu (four or five main course options, impressive..) and welcoming hosts. I had the nut roast with vegetables and a thick gravy, my wife had a pie and another guest had a cauliflower curry. It was just the perfect end, happy to really recommended this to everyone. Thank you!

Me and my partner have been staying in the Cotswolds for a few days and found the Golden Heart on our last night here. I wish we'd found it sooner! A real gem of a place, we called to see if we could book a table and were told that they had a very large booking - they squeezed us in anyway. We arrived in the pouring rain to be met with a lovely open fire in the cosy downstairs bar area. We were served by a very friendly young girl at the bar, really welcoming and helpful. One of the reasons we chose to visit was the large selection of vegan choices on the menu and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent, and even though they had a large booking was quick to arrive. My partner had the whitebait (she's not vegan) and I went for the vegan sausage roll to start. Both were lovely and very generous portions. We then had the vegan curry and the vegan pie and again both were delicious. We finished with a vegan apple pie and ice cream to share which was also amazing. I would usually post some pictures of the food but was too busy eating it 😁 I can't rate this place highly enough, and the two young people that served us are a credit to the owners. If we were staying longer we would be back a few times! If you're in the Cotswolds then you should visit, if you're vegan then you have to come here for dinner!

Astonished by the rudeness of the staff. We showed up at 11:30 on Friday as website says it opens at 11am on Fridays (as does the sign in the restaurant window). We asked a guy who was working out back about it. He said they don’t open till 12. I said they need to update online/window signage as it says 11am Fridays. We’d just driven 15mins out of our way to get to the restaurant. He just yelled he’d already told us they didn’t open to 12 and to go away. Needless to say we won’t be back.

Have been coming here for so many years, and have loved the wonderfully diverse and interesting chalkboard menu items. Have been taking my dogs here for their birthdays, as there was a lovely mined beef and gravy on the doggy menu. Sadly, arrived today at 1pm, there was one car in the car park and strange 'breakfast menu' outside. Went inside, no more menu specials, just a run of the mill menu. I was informed that a new 'manager' had been installed, obviously the one with the board rubber. To top it all, even the dog's menu was bad, unbelievable 'vegan platter, with vegan gravy'. For. A. Dog!! That said it all, we left.

Been here twice, both times after a festival in Eastnor, and it's been by far the best of the three or four other pubs we pass en-route by virtue of: 1. being open, 2. serving a full menu, 3. wanting to serve people, 4. not chasing potential customers in the carpark saying we're ungrateful for them offering us (reluctantly) "ham, eggs, chips" (ugh). (double ugh, "cooked" by a punter with dirty fingernails). The other place also didn't appreciate us driving in after crossing a road. (they'll get a 1 star review) 5. friendly person/people wanting to serve not-locals 6. nice atmosphere even when we were the only people in the place Added to my starred locations for the trip home in two years time.

The normal menu offers typical pub food but were complemented by a number of additional choices on a blackboard. We had a number of these specials and they were very good. I should mention the staff and the owner. We were looked after very well despite booking late, it being busy and not being regulars. Have been here a couple of times (there’s not a lot of competition round here) and it never fails to disappoint. The burger is simply disgusting, greasy, grey, appalling, while the roast looked dire. I would suggest that the slices were not hewn from an on-site, lovingly cooked piece of beef, but slipped from a frozen pack pre-sliced and brought to heat. Really needs to up its game because it could be very good with a little love and effort.

This pub wasn’t exactly what we were expecting. My partner and I had seen pretty good reviews so chose to visit during our stay in the Cotswolds. We walked in and there were 0 vibes, the atmosphere was completely dead. We asked the staff if we could get a table for two and they were pretty unhelpful and seemed more annoyed that we’d bothered her, they just gestured and said “yeah if there’s not a blackboard on there”. We found a small table where we sat for all of 5 minutes before agreeing it was too uncomfortable to stay for a meal. Can’t express how awkward it felt. When in the car park googling other local pubs we also saw another couple do exactly what we did (walk in, sit down, almost immediately get up to leave…) We visited The Green Dragon instead which had a great atmosphere and food!

A pub of nooks and crannies with a fireplace where you could roast a pig. Good beer but noted a lot of tables were reserved for later in the day ( Sunday at 12 when I visited). A wide variety on the menu, with Sunday lunch through to Osterich steaks.

Our party was 18 people we had our own separate dining area , we pre ordered a member of staff checked all of our orders before they were cooked to make sure everything was correct, All of our meals arrived pretty much together, we have visited the Golden Heart with a large party on a few occasions we have always received excellent food and service as we did this time, would definitely recommend

Fab food and a great range of dishes and specials at decent prices. Service was a bit slow, they seem to be trying to recruit more staff, which would help. It was cold in there though, we had to keep coats on. There was a small log fire in one room but that wasn't enough to heat the whole place and the windows are all single glazed. It's an historic building, I get that, and a pretty one at that. But no excuse not to have a big roaring log fire (or three!) on a cold day.

We have not visited for several years ago, when we thought the food was good but prices a touch high. Now, I think that other places have increased their prices more than the GH. Very comfortable, rustic country pub: it can be a little chilly on cold winter days, but perfect if you can grab a spot by the fire as we did today. Ignore the printed menus and check out the extensive blackboard list of very original dishes, with a very impressive vegan choice. Also daily specials: today, beef stew and dumplings (obviously enjoyed by someone on nearby table), or an impressive venison pie which we had, both at £12.50. Included sides plentiful, fresh, and served in separate dishes. Order at the bar, but service at the table was perfectly timed (no long wait but no rush either), friendly people. One small issue, item involved immediately removed from the bill without a request. We will not leave it as long before we return! Small gripe: "service not included", when food and drinks must be ordered at the bar, but tips are at customers' discretion after all.

Really nice old English pub with a fire. Couldn't fault it in any way. We need to keep these lovely old traditional pubs going.

Delicious food, attentive service and cosy seats next to log fire. We felt very welcome. Particularly recommend the ostrich steak. A lovely New Year’s Eve meal.

Great pub. Lovely food + massive portions of chips. The gent running front of house was switched on but was struggling to train his new and rather feckless staff members. Added to the charm of the place!

The upstairs room is an excellent space. They cater well to large parties here, and the vegan menu is particularly extensive

Cold pub, cold food. The roast pork was reminiscent of a school dinner and was disappointing! So many pubs and farm shops do roasts well, don’t waste your time and money here

Went today at 2.30 for a roast. Served at around 3.35. Massive Que at the bar . Had to wait around 30 mins to get served. When the food eventually came had to wait around another 10 minutes for the gravy, no surprise all the food had gone cold by then. Definitely will not go back.

Great selection of ales. It was early evening when we visited so quite quiet. As far as I could tell they don't seem to serve food.

Woeful to see the classic trick of putting food on the outer rim of the sandwich. Paid 7 quid for a panini meal and got this much ham in the toastie. Been here a number of times but won't bother coming back to this.
