I'm the worst person to leave a review on a pub, being tee total. Oh! And a vegetarian!...So please forgive my perspective. I love this place and the way I am always welcomed here. There is always a warm family welcome and I can't ask more than that. If you're looking for a bistro pub...Look elsewhere. This pub is the heartbeat of this community and it's menu reflects that. The food is good with plentiful portions. Long may this pub continue to be current and a success in this area.

A proper local pub in the best tradition. Fullers London Pride in very good condition and the best Sunday roasts.

Lovely lady, so friendly and helpful, she couldn't have done any more. The food was to die for....100%....plenty of it and great value

Quiet during the evening I visited. The ales have a good choice and the cider was tasty.

What a lovely pub.Met my son and family from Kent for Sunday Lunch.Had the choice of small medium or large meal .The small or medium meal is enough if you want a desert.Meal came out boiling hot with 7 different vegetables,roast and mashed potatoes,Yorkshire puds and lashings of lovely gravy.Nice choice of deserts too .Very good prices too.The pub has a nice and friendly atmosphere with lovely staff.A real gem.

Fantastic Sunday Lunch. Have been 4 times now and great every time. 7 varieties of veg and a medium portion is a large anywhere else. One day I might have room left for one of their great looking deserts.

Excellent local community pub Sunday food is beyond expectation Everything in that pub ìs perfectly done. Great place to have a pint and more. Management is excellent . Clean and tidy.

I defy anyone to find a better value Sunday Roast within 20 miles. Well cooked top quality meat, 6 different vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and a jug of lovely gravy.

What can I say about The Golden Lion, I visit Manor Park in Aldershot 3 times a year and every time I visit the staff always make me feel welcome it's a wonderful place and I couldn't wish for a better pub. The Golden Lion is a friendly cheerful outstanding establishment with wonderful staff I would recommend this pub to anyone who's visiting Aldershot 👍👍👍👍👍

Very decent local. Perfect Saturday lunchtime in there with lots of different assorted people all coming together to celebrate the great British pub.

A lovely little local pub with the best Guinness on draught, just a shame there is no outside space as we love a pub garden.

First time back in 25 years, warm welcome, clean,tidy bar area, dart board, comfortable seats,downside was no food available even a simple bar snack like a toastie etc would have been nice.Overheard that the Sunday lunches were being stopped because of no shows, simple remedy to this is non refundable deposit at time of booking with a slightly cheaper price for those who booked before the day,this was and probably still is a nice,well run local pub but I left with the feeling that more could be done to entice more customers through the doors.

Sunday dinner excellent and choice of small, medium and large. Medium was plenty. Washed down with an excellent pint of London Pride. What more could a man want.

I saw a very nasty scene at this pub on Sunday, the landlord approached a man sitting in the corner and said" I've been watching you, you've been talking to yourself and you're a nutter, get the f.. out of my pub"! The man in question was a well spoken, quite jolly man, and was obviously upset by the viciousness of this ignorant,foul-mouthed, horrible landlord. It was my first and last visit.

Amazing service, delicious roasts and value for money. Sadly cheap brand wine was a turn off but other alternatives were had. Will definitely be back soon

By far the best roast for miles. You'll need to book. Veggie options available Inc all roasties cooked seperatly etc if you let them know.

Always come here for Sunday Roast when we are in Aldershot. It's all good. But make a rezzy, you'll need to find your name on a table, then order your drink at the bar and pay for your lunch..

We had a wonderful time there,can see why you have to book,very busy,food was very good,if anyone complains about the food or the quantity, tell us thoroughly enjoyed it

Best sunday lunch anywhere. Great value. Better than any carvery. Plenty of choice. Don't go for the large if you like a pudding as you won't manage both. 😀

We were having new windows installed so the house was a bit topsy-turvy. My wife suggested we pop out to grab some lunch from a local pub. The Golden Lion is a short walk away from us, through a very nice green space (Manor Park) and we know it serves food at weekday lunchtimes. The pub has been tidied up inside since our last visit but the welcome was as warm as ever and Paul served me a very decent pint of London Pride. There's quite a good choice on the menu but what's very special is the pricing - buy a drink and meals can be as little as £3.50 per person for a good serving of food. My wife and I both opted for the Chicken Burger (delicious!) which arrived quickly, was very nicely presented and came with a good-sized portion of nice chips and a just-about-right portion of light salad - a really decent plate-full of good food for £3.50.

I had been meaning to visit this pub for years. On an overcast, slightly damp July afternoon I finally made it. Aldershot's public flower displays are mindblowing--the vivid colours bring a touch of the East that counteracts the grey of many of the buildings. The Golden Lion was closer to the station than I supposed--next time I would not take the unnecessary detour that I took, during which I noted the Crimea pub, not yet open, so carried on to my planned destination. I was not the only one to do so, in fact. The Golden Lion is traditional in a good way, but I noticed the fairly recently installed rail across the front of the bar, which I think a very sensible innovation and one that could usefully be copied elsewhere. When you enter, you see in front of you an area of the bar which has a brick fireplace that looks as though it might date from the 1920s or thereabouts. This is the part of the bar where the barmaid likes to chat with customers. Two loyal customers had taken up position at the favoured short end of the bar. Along the long end of the bar there are rectangular stools. Ladies seem to prefer the tables spaced out along the street side of the bar, lit by obscure glass windows. Sport was showing on two screens at opposite ends of the bar, but the sound was down and the customers did not seem particularly interested in it. No one seemed to notice the conclusion of a cricket match and the parading of the trophy. I was interested to hear about the Aldershot pub artist who used to visit all the Aldershot pubs in years gone by and turn out 10-minute sketches of the customers. One regular of the Golden Lion still cherishes his. The landlady has a lot of character and a pleasing way with words. She dealt with the almost entirely male clientele with aplomb. One of the pub's selling points is its keen drink pricing, especially for groups. For example, 6 x Sambuca for £10.

Super friendly pub and we had a lovely lunch there. Good prices too. It's a small and cosy pub. We really enjoyed it!

Best value roast for miles really really good quality lots of gravy brilliant but you need to book as they get busy, a hidden gem on a Sunday afternoon!

We came for a family roast. Myself and my partner always eat here and find the pub amazing. We had family visiting and booked a table for 8 people. Upon booking the landlady was helpful and our table was ready even when we arrived early. The pub is extremly clean and staff kind and helpful. We ordered roast dinners which are amazing definatly the best roasts we have had everything fresh and great portion sizes. The prize was fantastic. Service was quite and we had a 5 star experiance. Highly recommend this pub for food and drinks.

The food is gorgeous and really reasonably priced. Easily the best roast in town, with a yummy variety of veg on a big plate. If you're veggie, phone ahead and they'll make sure there's some veggie friendly roast potatoes (the standard ones are cooked in meat fat). Spicy burgers, fresh salad, warming paninis. Just lovely.

Small pub with a basic menu for pub lunches. Food was well cooked and tables were clean and had a menu and vase with flower on each one. Someone had made an effort. Will go again
