Solid five stars, thanks to an original menu with all fresh and local produce, sold as well by the farmers inside this atmospheric renovated warehouse by the railroads (no noise or tremors from the passing carriages). We particularly loved the Jerusalem artichoke and the pasta with crab. You have to visit this place when in Canterbury!

Wonderful place! Well made, modern and creative food! The concept of dining within the farmer's market works wonderfully and creates a beautiful atmosphere. The portions are rather big, so don't overorder :D Absolutely loved this place!

Good ingredients, variable menu. Starters were all excellent, but only the meat mains were high quality, in our experience. Butter knives to cut said meat also not ideal! We liked the extensive drinks menu with local options. I had halibut for a main, the cut was average especially for the price. It came swimming in a butter sauce, and both side options were with butter. Plus butter with the bread (a nice addition, good loaves with info on the table) and scallop starter served on curry butter (this was a great dish). So much butter. I didn't feel full after, but unwell! I'm sure this isn't the case every day, but maybe some more variety from the menu setters..? It is an old building it's not very warm in winter. Also the toilets are very run down, at least a working lock would be nice..? I don't think I'd go back for the price, maybe a short visit in summer. Worth trying to see especially if you're a meat eater, I think.

The restaurant menu changes on a regular basis so you just have to stop by to find out what's going on that day. You are right next to the local farmers market. The food is great and you can get some groceries done without a separate trip to the store.

17 years coming here off and on Today overly salty bread laced with butter seasalt on (we all know this tactic to get you to drink more), a ginger beer i'd rather of drank sorry tap water beats me what apparently trendy crap they think, a fancy named Cesar salad starter a dressing so high in acid/vinaigrette almost sick. Who tasted it in the kitchen? Then lamb done really badly, my leg of lamb as home cook a lot better two weeks earlier I cooked. As a group of five, noone happy. But typical Brits we said nothing at the time. Sorry owners sort your shit out. Other dishes issues but I'll not write more. It was my birthday but we decided to leave not get third course, which says it all really.

Didn't have time to eat food here, but the market stalls are amazing, a great selection of fresh veg, meat, cheese cold meats, wine ales, pasta you name it and very good quality too. All the stall holders. I were really nice, and they actually spent time with you to make sure you got exactly what you wanted. I love that vibe rather than the in and out attitude of other places. I came here to buy one thing and left with loads of stuff and the prices are very reasonable. Coffee was lovely, I could have stayed here all day, great place for conversation as well. Very welcoming and warm

The Google Maps entry is a bit misleading... I went to the Goods Shed building, to Gill's Cafe & Delicatessen - but this listing seems to be for the main restaurant, which I didn't go to... Anyway - Gill's was great, and I had a lovely bowl of soup for £7, with very friendly service. It's very convenient for the station, and I'd definitely return.

I had a really lovely man serve me today in the far left corner here, selling charcuterie and wines (sadly I've not taken the name down). We had a great chat and he chopped too much pecorino for my sandwich and gave it to me on the house to take home! I had a truffle pecorino, aioli and cornichon sandwich, it was a very generous portion and filled to the brim. Strong recommend for a luxurious lunch on the train back to London!

Amazing restaurant and beautiful local produce market! The food at the restaurant was really fancy and absolutely delicious! Every meal was a real experience! They use local and seasonal ingredients sourced directly from the market. We ordered a 3-course meal which was definitely pricey but perfect for a celebration or special occasion. The staff a very attentive and very well organised. Booking a table is best as it gets very busy. The market is also very charming with fresh local veg, fish, meat, juice, cheese and other wonderful finds. Highly recommend and can't wait to be back!

My husband and I had an enjoyable meal and we loved and cannot fault the attentive service, atmosphere and the rustic setting. Unfortunately, for us the food lacked zing and we can only put it down to the constricted choice for vegetables with our main dishes, the options of sides on the menu was either a green salad or pink fir potatoes in garlic butter. This seems strange and a wasted opportunity bearing in mind the restaurant is right next to a farmers market that sells all manner of locally produced vegetables. What better way to promote local vegetable produce but by having even one or two other green/root vegetable based side options with the main dishes?

Lovely place to dine or shop from local businesses - all in close proximity to the train station. We seemed to have visited on a particularly busy day, as they only had one table available for walk-ins (us). The kitchen seemed a bit overwhelmed as our food took forever to arrive, and we ended up dining there for 2.5 hours. Something to keep in mind if you're on a tight schedule. The food was great! We really enjoyed the confit pork belly, and we thought the mint butter paired really well with the pink fir potatoes. Didn't realise the 'roast chicken' was a salad when we ordered, but it was still pretty good.

This was a wonderful leisurely meal. We shared the child Lamb appetizer and then I had the roast pork and my wife had the haddock. The bread and butter were great too -- the butter was very yellow and treated how butter ought to taste! I was hoping to get dessert but we were both full, and out played were spotless! Great atmosphere with candelabra with lit candles on our table. It looked as though a couple of couples were there for date night! Not cheap, but not expensive either at £90 all in for two people. Seemed rude when she served our table, for example, when I asked for three small plates, she just drop off a pile of plates on the table without a word, no introduction of any dishes; asked me if we are done with starters when we were only half way through and left when I didn’t even finish my sentence. We visited Canterbury in early June, and were recommended The Goods Shed for a unique lunch destination. We were shown to our seats by a member of staff, who ascertained that we hadn't pre-booked, which wasn't a problem as there were tables available, and whilst waiting for our server, I noticed a specials board, and stood up to get a closer look. I was then accosted by the manager, and rudely asked if we'd been shown to our seats, or seated ourselves. I replied that we'd been seated by his colleague, and that I was looking at the specials board, he then snapped that they were all on the menu. Fortunately, our server was much more polite than the manager. After our main meals, the same manager, came to the table and without a word, put down dessert menus, and left. I would not recommend this venue based on the service we received from this individual. The food was adequate. The historic and interesting venue was the best part of the visit.

We were unfortunately sat with some of our party facing the window and the sun was low and glaring in their eyes, not much you can do about this but would’ve been good to be sat at the empty table next to us that didn’t have this problem. Service was lovely. Had the chicken for two which was very tasty, although think could’ve done with some vegetables with it to freshen up the meal and make it feel less heavy.

We were told there was not a table inside available, although many were enpty and with just an hour and a quarter to go before closure we were directed to the outside area. We did pop there and sat down but it was too chilly and also it looked like rain. So we left very disappointed at the uppityness of our treatment as there was obviously going to be a table available inside. Their loss on a sizeable bill, so off to the Fordwich Arms!

Nestled amidst the historic charm of Canterbury, The Goods Shed isn't just an indoor food market; it's a captivating experience for all senses. Housed within a converted Victorian railway shed, the very essence of the building whispers tales of a bygone era. But step inside, and you're greeted with a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates fresh, seasonal produce. The Goods Shed's charm begins even before you dig into the food. The soaring arched windows bathe the space in natural light, showcasing the exposed brickwork and industrial-chic decor. Fresh flowers grace the sanded-down wooden tables, adding a touch of whimsical romance. Whether you choose a cozy corner or a table overlooking the bustling market area, the ambiance is undeniably inviting. The Goods Shed's connection to fresh, local produce is evident from the start. The space within houses a restaurant and for those seeking a more casual experience, the adjoining market area offers a variety of food stalls and artisan producers, perfect for grabbing a bite or browsing for gourmet goodies. The Goods Shed is a must-visit for anyone seeking a local food experience that goes beyond just the food. It's a celebration of fresh produce, culinary innovation, and the charm of a bygone era. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor exploring Canterbury, The Goods Shed promises a memorable experience that will leave you feeling satisfied food wise in every way!

We went to this restaurant on a day trip to Canterbury. I had no idea where to go in town, but I was recommended the Goods Shed by an internet guide (I think it was TimeOut, but not 100% sure). I’m usually really suspicious about these recommendations, but decided to book it anyway. The thing is I had one of the best meals I’ve ever had in England. My partner and I were simply mesmerised. We weren’t that hungry, so we decided to share two starters and one main dish. The starters were delicious (pork terrine and kedgeree - kedgeree was better in my opinion, but my partner thought it was the pork terrine) and had a distinctive taste. The spices were simple, but tasteful. It felt homely, but also sophisticated at the same time. The highlight was the main dish we shared, we got the lamb leg. It was juicy, tender and I felt it was just melting in my mouth. The side was great too, it had an onion punch that increased the flavour of the vegetables. Finally, we decided to get a dessert as well. The hot chocolate pudding was intense in flavour, it had a bold taste of proper chocolate. Although it wasn’t too sweet, it’s best if shared with someone else. Finally, the service was great, I have no complaints. But the experience was enhanced by the atmosphere. Many restaurants these days have this tendency to put costumers too close to each other in cramped and overcrowded restaurants. At Goods Shed, we got a big table for two and we could have enough privacy not to hear other costumers conversations. The candle-lit environment was also super cosy and romantic. The restaurant is located inside a small market with fresh produce and good quality groceries. If I had more time, I would have definitely browsed more. Great experience!

I took my son here to use the indoor food market rather than the restaurant type facilites. All the stall holders were friendly and helpful and the goods my son purchased all looked of good quality. Unfortunately probably due to the timing of our visit (3pm on a Sunday)there was not a huge variety of produce available and a lot of people were packing up so the atmosphere wasn’t amazing but I would be interested to compare this visit to one on a different day and time! I thought some of the prices were a bit high but that was comparing to supermarkets prices so probable an unfair comparison. Nice to have everything under one roof.

I went here with family who said they loved the place and had visited before. I have to say the visit was a few months ago but I loved the atmosphere (kind of old cafe feel). The food was 5 star and easily some of the best fish and chips I have ever had. I have visited for battered sausage and chips to take away if I am in Herne Bay, just because the food is so good. Keep up the great work! Easily 5 star experience!
