Big beer garden out back with tvs and great atmosphere. Staff are all lovely, I was served by iris who was a great help

Came here with some friends for an afternoon out, great beer garden with plenty of seating and a great view. I was served by Peter and Iris who were really lovely and all the staff on were great and always ready to help

Proper pub with tradition feel and good range of cask alse. Plenty of tvs for all the sport you need. Along with a huge outside area down by the river wear.

Been to this lovely little pub a couple times now and absolutely love the atmosphere. Was served both times by a lovely barmaid called Iris. So well mannered and had time for everyone.

Lovely traditional pub with great staff. Great location for watching the sports with lots of TV’s inside and outside in a very large beer garden that looks out into the river. Brilliant selection of ales and draught lagers. Highly recommend if you’re in Durham and passing. Pop in 😄🍻

A top pub in a city where there are many good bars, certainly our local of choice. It's renowned for its cask ales, as a sport-passionate venue, and is equally popular between locals, visitors and the university crowd. Called in yesterday, very busy but service prompt and with a smile. No food (other than crisps etc - OK by me), no kids, well-behaved dogs welcome, and a marvellous riverside beer-garden (with heating!). Characterful building, and a member of Timothy Taylor's Champion Club (Landlord's a best seller with Draught Bass.)

Great pub. Just moved up from Wales and lovely barmaid called Kim gave us directions on the city, very help and extremely fast with service. Also a good little gem to come and watch the football. Although be warned it's deep Newcastle territory judging by all the black and white last game day.

Lea, Beth and iris are the nicest staff on that bar, my pint is always top teir and the service is always fantastic

Nice atmosphere and a good pint

I’ve been to a few pubs in Durham and non of them have blown my mind quite like the half moon, from the service to the spacious beer garden, even the friendly regulars you just can’t go wrong. No nicer pub to be found, especially that one fella behind the bar I think his name is Pete? Such a lovely and helpful guy making sure I was aware of all the deals that were on.

spent my 21st here absolutely brilliant service from lea, the beer garden is beautiful and a great space for socialising, can imagine how lovely it would be in the summer.

The establishment offers excellent cuisine at reasonable prices, and the staff provides exceptional service.

I recently had the pleasure of drinking at Half Moon in Durham, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional, thanks to the outstanding service provided by Kim, Joshua, Lea, and Paul. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel incredibly welcome and attended to our every need with genuine warmth and professionalism. Kim's attention to detail and her ability to anticipate our needs was impressive. Joshua was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, offering excellent recommendations that made our drinking experience even better. Lea was attentive, ensuring our table was always taken care of, and Paul’s friendly demeanor and efficiency added to the overall positive atmosphere. Together, they created an unforgettable experience with their teamwork and dedication. I cannot recommend Half Moon enough, especially if you have the chance to be served by such an exceptional team. Five stars all the way!

One of the worst places I’ve encountered for ‘queue’ management, and knowing who is next to be served. The most recent time I was ignored, I was the 3rd person at the bar (so it’s not rammed!) and people that rocked up after me got served, including a man who was RIGHT next to me, so that proves we’re not invisible where I was standing, they just didn’t serve me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Seems like a nice place but families are not welcome. On the website https://www.thehalfmooninndurham.co.uk/# There is nothing indicating it's over 18s only. In fact it says you will always receive a warm welcome which is not true if any of your party is under 18. Hence the 1 star review.

Amazing service and a brilliant pint, really enjoyed watching the euros final here eventhough extremely busy lea was very helpful and attentive. 100% recommend

I met some friends there last Saturday afternoon. The pub was busy (it was Grand National day, the Newcastle match had been on the TV, and as it was a nice day, there were many people drinking on the terrace behind the pub) and the atmosphere was pretty good. The only problem I had was that the service was very slow, mainly because the place was so busy, but it was also apparent that the bar area is pretty cramped and disorganised. (Many staff seemed to be hanging around because they could get to where they needed to be.)

I live 3 villages away and still prefer to think of this place as my local. Great atmosphere and staff have an amazing rapport. Hygiene standard is nothing shy of first rate. Trouble makers aren't welcome, unless that trouble maker is a 4 legged playful canine! Overall, perfect pub to relax and shoot the breeze, inside or overlooking the river. (And yes, Kim told me to write all this!)

Been to Durham many times but first time in this pub. It'll definitely not be the last. Excellent choice, excellent ale friendly staff and clientele.

It's a go to pub whilst in Durham. Nice to sit outside and watch the rowers as they pass by. Better in the summertime.

Just a quick pint on NYE. Staff very friendly. Welcomed us in & said bye when we left. It goes a long way.

Use The Half Moon Inn to watch the football when out on a Saturday night. There are televisions throughout the pub and all around the outside areas, and a portion of the outside area has overhead heating lamps. If seated outside you can also order drinks from your table by using a QR code beside the table, with an option to tip the staff for their great service.

Best place to watch football in Durham. Staff are perfect, drinks well priced.

Great friendly bar, was given a free drink when I was last here on an accidental pub crawl, which is easy to do when there are lovely bars like this one :)

The staff are always friendly and there is a great choice of beer on offer. It can be a bit more expensive than some of the other pubs nearby but the beer garden is fun on hot days and most of the time you can get a seat

All i can say is The Half moon is a proper pub, great selection of drinks, one of the best old school pubs i've been in. Each time I go for a night out in Durham or even a daytime drinking session I can't think of a better pub to start and end in. Fantastic staff and even better service. There should be more pubs like this one.

A most enjoyable place in the middle of Durham City. Lots of regulars, all friendly, and great staff too. The Landlord has 4 Real Ales on all excellent quality and clear as a bell. This should be in The Real Ale guide!
