The Half Moon Inn in Middlesbrough

Following initial booking from a booking app I was contacted by the owners to confirm and ask if there were any requests and an approximate time of arrival. I was attending a family funeral and requested a late check out which was accommodated without further cost. I had several communications with accommodation as we did not arrive on time as anticipated. The room was lovely and warm when we eventually arrived. We found it to be very clean and with an extremely comfortable bed, complimentary tea, coffee and wifi. We had a freshly cooked breakfast with all requests acknowledged and carried out. The friendliness and efficiency of all the staff was spot on. A definite plus to this small business who really did go that extra mile for the customer. A total gem not too far out for the airport and middlesbrough town centre.

Very very nice pizzas and the chicken was gorgeous. Parmos are out of this world. Wish they served Madri though. Will definitely be back!

We ordered mixed grill, scampi, sirloin steak and rip eye steak. All steaks cooked exactly how we asked and came out piping hot. From the second we walked in the door till we left it was fantastic. Dont miss out on this hidden gem. Thank you to all the staff

Bad experience never to be repeated - several items on the menu weren’t available but this was not explained at the time of ordering - Not even lemon or lime for drinks. Waited over an hour with no explanation as to why it was taking so long in a near empty pub on a Tuesday, In the end we asked for a refund and walked out. Won’t be going back & i don’t recommend it.

I would never come again. Your mixed grill is totally disgusting. Not like the pictures you put on Facebook. I thought it was under new management, but it’s just the same

I was with my partner and a former work colleague and we visited on Thursday 25th of July for lunch. I opted for an all day breakfast which was incredible, beautiful presented and nice and hot. Bacon/two eggs/beans/2 slices toast with butter/2 sausages/mushrooms and black pudding. Best breakfast in a venue in years. We all enjoyed the food and will be back. Thanks to the lovely young man who attended to us. Thoroughly recommended.

Loved that the whole pub is dog friendly, parmo bites awesome, the rest of the food was alright but we wouldn't rush back. Fish was small but tasty, only garden peas served. Chips really good on all dishes. Grilled butterfly chicken ok, an awful lot of onion in the salad and the extra side of coleslaw. Mixed grill, steak was medium although we weren't asked how we wanted it, gammon a bit over, tomato and mushroom were good. Friendly service, table hadn't been cleaned,

Nice pub, but I was disappointed with my lunch. I had the halloumi and chilli jam salad. The salad was lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, masses of large slices of red onion and halloumi strips. The chilli jam was served on the side. Unfortunately it was bland and dry. A little more imagination is needed. That said my friends were happy with their choices. The staff were polite and the venue is very clean.

There was 15 of us went for my husband’s birthday 🎂 the meal was outstanding !everyone enjoyed the meals and the service was great from going in to leaving the staff couldn’t of been better.Good value and good food everything was perfect.We are booking again for our next family birthday and really looking forward.

First time I’ve been in Lazenby for over 30 years, myself, my wife came here for lunch today I was actually blown away by the food, service and quality lovely young pleasant man on the bar A credit to the pub drinks reasonably priced The wife had fish and chips and I had sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection good size portions and the chips home-made really nice presentation was excellent we both had sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely gorgeous as well and well presented we sat in the restaurant, which were very nice quiet and relaxing, and just recently decorated we are a bit of a foodies ourselves and sometimes can be hard to please but everything was excellent so next time you’re driving down the A1 74 to get your fish and chips don’t go to Redcar called in at Lazenby. You’ll be absolutely delighted. Thank you to all the staff at the Halfmoon will definitely back in the future 👏👏

The half moon runs out of Carling lager on a weekly basis you could forgive this a couple of times but every week they run out. The pub has recently reopened under new ownership and people in lazenby now consider the pub "our local" Please sort this issue out someone must be responsible or is it bad management ? Otherwise the pub,staff and company is good

We were recommended this pub so we thought we would give it a whirl. WOW, the Sunday lunch was amazing. Good portion, I couldn’t eat it all, all fresh and hot. Well worth the money and will be returning for another

Lunch on a sunny Saturday we got a warm welcome at this village pub from a lovely lady. My wife chose the gammon steak and I had the chicken parmo, both served with home made chips. Hearty portions of well cooked food at very reasonable prices and a good selection of draught beers. Our concern is that good little pubs like this are going to find the significant hike in energy bills impossible to manage. To be honest the place was not busy, perhaps half a dozen tables being used and nobody in the decent sized beer garden even on this nice sunny day.

This is real home cooked food, not like your chain pub rubbish. I had a very generous helping of liver and onions with chips and veg, just like my Mam would make. Bloody lovely, the wife had the sausage and mash, 4 sausages served with mash, Veg and gravy . Very nice staff and nice quick service. Keep up the great work.

I used to eat here years ago but moved a bit further away but today was passing and called at about 4pm hoping you were still doing Sunday dinner, you were the food was excellent and everyone was really friendly great service and food thank you My other half said it’s the best pub dinner he has had!

Called in on the off chance for a bite to eat on a wet Sunday afternoon. Barstaff made us very welcome, lovely and friendly. We’d never been before so went with the traditional Sunday dinner menu. Two pork, one beef, one turkey. And we decided that we would do mains and pudding rather than starters. Turns out that was an excellent choice because OMG the portions are huge! Incredibly generous, tons of veg, huge roasties, plenty of meat, lovely Yorkshires, plenty of gravy. Will be back for sure because we were too full to even contemplate pudding. One of our party has a small appetite so there was quite a lot of their meal left, and the staff were more than happy to grab us a takeout box so we could bring it home with us.

I’ve been here 3 times so far this year with 3 different groups of friends and each and every one of us enjoyed our meal and the friendly service. Due to Covid you may have missed its change in management (I did), lovely freshly cooked food and amazing chips and if you’re lucky a warm hello from Enid if she’s about (the pub greyhound)

Visited with our family and had a lovely meal. Lovely log fire, excellent service and fabulous food. Well worth a visit if you are nearby.

Called in yesterday at 2.30 pm on the off chance they might be still serving food, they were and we were really impressed that even though it was quiet, obviously past lunchtime rush, the food was still well cooked (not warmed up) and really tasty, will definitely return

Our first meal out since last year and so glad we picked the Half Moon. Food was amazing and the service was outstanding. The staff are so warm and friendly and cannot do enough for you. Just a warning, don’t eat anything before you go as the portion sizes are massive!!! Cannot fault anything.

Went for tea tonight and totally happy with the service the food and also the covid regs being adhered to.Parmos were to die for and the Morretti was top notch. Will be back for another visit.

I Went to Half Moon Pub in Lazenby Village with my family for Sunday Lunch, what a beautiful meal best Sunday Lunch in a long Time.Meat was tender, Vegetables fresh and tasty and Yorkshire puddings that were near damn perfect.Thank you will definately be back soon.

we had a lovely meal tonight from here the food was georgess and the new manager was lovely they welcomed us and the price of there food is good as you get good quality food from here i would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it yet great staff and will go out of there way to help you especially the managers thankyou Wayne and Donna x

Staff friendly but food for terrible , had Sunday lunch and meat tough and everything was clearly reheated when we walked in food on the table in 2 minuets mash lumpy and veg all overcooked and I think from frozen . One of the worst Sunday dinners I have eaten for a while !

well what a surprise Atmosphere was back in the place and food was fantastic.....was that good even took The family back in for Sunday Lunch which again was superb.Will definitely be back in this weekend for some more tasty delights.Great to see new Owners running the pub brings a breath of fresh air to the place...good luck and 100% be seeing myself and friends soon...please keep it up...top marks 5☆

Cold atmosphere no background music and cold plates. Badly cooked steaks where the landlord had no idea the difference between the types of cooking of steak. He actually tried to blame the cow for the fact that blood was coming out of a steak that was supposed to be well done. When I complained he told me not to come back.I had no intention of going back he only confirmed it for me.Stay well away from this hell hole.

Love this place for food . Called tonight on the way home from work . All I can say is it never fails the food is so delicious and amazing quality ingredients. I had the steak and ale pie with chips and veg and absolutely enjoyed every mouthful. The pub is spotlessly clean and the staff are very friendly. Been four times now and every time been absolutely spot on . Would highly recommend this place . Bet people pass on the A174 doing the trip to and from work every day and don’t even know it’s here . Truly the best hidden gem in the north east.

Always liked this place for nice home cooked food and good value but found it had changed on my last visit. Prices were up with cornbeef pie now about £10 but one of the cheapest meals they now do. Was served with beans which I don't like so really dry without gravy. Can get better value elsewhere

Came today for a quiet drink with work friends. Got told to move away from the bar as we were blocking other customers, (we were the only people in there) he then went on to tell us to go to a different pub and was chewy through out the time we were there. Lovely place but was let down by the owner. Will go somewhere where you can actually have a laugh and a talk next time. Would not recommend unless your boring as f#*k.

Me an my wife went to the half moon for a few quiet drinks on a Friday night.was really quiet half way through our drinks where told to leave as they where closing at 8pm felt pressured in to finishing our drinks quickly as staff turned lights of an locked doors we are local to the village and won’t be back

Always loved this pub, today dissapointed with meal, not enough veg for 2 people in bowl, frozen veg, definately not seasonal like on menu

Visited with grandchildren and had a lovely Sunday lunch. Food and service were both excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. Will definitely visit again.

This is the 3rd occasion we have come here to eat with work, and on every occasion, we've found the older man behind the bar to be very rude.We'd pre-ordered food, and when he brought it out he said small parmo, to which i replied with pepperoni, he said No! a large with pepperoni, I said the large without the small with, but i said it's fine we'll leave it as it is. His reply, that's what was ordered I'll go get my list! I said there's really no need. He went away then came back and just grunted 'our mistake'! So rude and ignorant and very much lacking customer service skills!

Came for Sunday lunch today and I must say it was lovely much better than any I have ever tasted. Looks beautiful inside and out and the food is all home made. Well done......keep it up I’ll certainly be back

Had a mixed grill couldn't believe the size of it when it came, the food was served fast and was delicious will definitely be calling in again.

Was looking for somewhere to eat for my brother and sister in laws anniversary as it was a Saturday night thought we would avoid the towns as it would be full of kids so thought we would go to The Half Moon.

Good choice everything from sandwich to roast dinner. Very good size portions. Lovely vegetables to go with it.

In a nutshell, the food is way over priced and simply not worth it. There is much better food at far more affordable prices in the Middlesbrough, Eston, Redcar area.

We have called in at the Half Moon a few times and the service & food were both fine.

Went last week for lunch totally by chance . Big car park to the rear . Lovely clean and modern decorated pub . Food was absolutely out of this world . Big portions and so delicious . Staff are so nice and attentive . The lady that served us was naturally so nice and very good at what she does . I had the steak pie which was amazing and my partner had the chilli which was equally as good . Will be back with friends . My new favourite place to eat .

This is my Favorite pub after a hard days work my partner and mum visit the half moon as much as we can the menu is so brilliant the staff and the management team impress me every time we go home from home you should all be so proud

Very welcoming with brilliant staff during a family visit for Sunday lunch. Food was the best Sunday lunch we've had eating out for sometime. All the meats were excellent as was the veg and Yorkshire puds. Desserts were top notch as well. Good to finally find somewhere local that provides this service. Will definitely be going back!

Called in for Sunday Lunch,very friendly service,minimal waiting time,plenty of choice FRESH vegetables,good portion of meat and stuffing,2 Yorkshire’s to die for and lovely beef gravy. Friendly staff that made you feel wanted. Will definitely return.

Came recommended. Poor service. 45 minutes for food to be served and only 5 tables in. COD was lovely I must say, but chips came out dark brown and soggy. The Cajun chicken was as dry as a bone. Won’t be rushing back.

Went with friends and 2 teenagers for afternoon tea got to admit didnt think we would have been offered so much choice and amount. Very tasty and presented brilliantly very quaint and no problem getting a portion as it was laid out to perfect size for each of us. Good coffee too (cant stand cheap crap). Will be going again but wont have lunch first but the landlady did box up what we couldnt eat at th time. Recommend to anybody who wants a nice relaxing atmosphere and friendly stsff.

Just had a meal there for 8 people as mother in laws birthday and had people visiting from the south and so had not been before we went here as I have never had a bad meal before

Went to the half moon as a family of 5. We had been before and I wanted a vegetarian Parmo and they didn't have any so on arrival checked they had all vegetarian options which the landlady told us they did. My stepdaughter has been a vegetarian for 4 years. When taking our order the landlady asked us who was the vegetarian and laughed. My stepdaughter ordered a bean burger. When our food arrived my stepdaughter said this looks like beef and got her boyfriend to try it. He said it tastes like beef. The landlady and landlord where bring out more food and I said my daughter thinks this is beef it's def the bean burger ? They both said yes. The landlady even said it's 100% the bean burger. My stepdaughter took a bite and then the landlady came running out and shouted stop eating we got it mixed up that's a beef burger !!!

After being a vegetarian for nearly 4 years we went to the half moon in in lazenby for a lovely meal as they’re supposed to be well known for serving vegetarian and vegan food. I have been a vegetarian for 4 years and was a pescatarian for 4 years before that so have not eaten meat for since I was 11, 8 years ago. I ordered a spicy bean burger expecting a nice meal and it came out. I opened it and it looked like a beef burger so then we asked the owners is this a beef burger to which they said “I assure you this is the bean burger” so I started to eat. Then the server came out and said stop eating it’s beef. I went white and ran to the toilet to make myself sick. We made a complain and they said “well it wasn’t intentional” and that because it was a dietary choice not an intolerance it wasn’t that much of an issue. They then expected us to pay for the food we didn’t eat because we left. Intentional or not somewhere that serves food should know what they were selling.

Another fantastic meal extremely reasonable with brilliant service well done to the owners and the serving team always make you feel welcome

Visited with 3 friends for the first time after being recommended to try the Slimming Friendly recipes. I follow Slimming World and for once it was great to be able to chose something tasty off the menu and know the accurate syn value. The service was fantastic - friendly / helpful / efficient. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was delicious - could not tell it was healthy at all! The slimming Chicken Parmo was fab and even got a jam sponge and custard for desert - and all under my daily allowance !! Cannot recommend this place enough !! (The menu also had a vast choice of non slimming food which also sounded great).

Visit early evening for a nosh with a pal. Hadn't booked but made welcome. Food and àle very good. Would visit again.

Gluten free wounded...large family visit lovely helpful owner .Nothing to much trouble. Only bad point veg with pie a little dry .Even happy for us to take left overs home .We will be back soon .

We took our eldest grandson here for a pub lunch. It was very busy and we ordered expecting a long wait but no, the food arrived within a few minutes. Admittedly, we’d only ordered burgers and a wrap but for three lunches and a drink each the cost was good. All the dishes was hot and tasty. (I don’t know why the Service, Food and Value boxes never seem to work for me - this pub gets a five for all three.)

Recommend to try a local spot by a good friend, due to an amount of management change. Booked a table for 5. On arrival was greeted by a lovely Manageress called Kelly. We were given the option of choosing a table.

Visited today 9th June for my mothers birthday, had pre-booked a table for 4 but 5 of us arrived as my daughter came too, it was no issue for the manageress who was very polite and extremely helpful and arranged a table.

Can't fault this place. Not been here for atleast 15yrs.. the Sunday lunch was one of the best I've ever had in a pub. Service second to none.. food was perfect.. never tasted turnip like that since I was a kid in the 70's.. highly recommended and will defo be going back..

Called for a meal this afternoon and it was fabulous. The lovely lady who now runs it couldn't have been more helpful from the moment we went in. Absolutely wonderful and definitely be back.

Came here on a lovely sunny day and sat outside, the lady who served us was welcoming and helpful. The food was lovely as was the slimmers Parmo :) Highly recommend especially on a sunny day

on arrival we were met by the manager who may i add is a lovely down too earth man , made us very welcome , we were a few mins early for food so we were offered a nice pot ov tea , when we ordered it came plentyful and piping hot , served by a lovely lady , we will deffo visit again , all home made food , and lots of it , and immaculate

As a vegan I researched the menu choices and it did say online that they did vegan parmos however when I got there there was a different menu . I had vegan chilli with rice and it was really good.

This pub is not far from Teesport dock so it's handy if you fancy good pub food at reasonable prices it's welcoming staff will take you to a table or you can sit by the fireplace and experience the old days when pubs were pubs and not converted banks

Not the first time we have been here. It’s not cheap considering it is mainly bar food. However the do have a gluten free and veggie options. They also have pudding on a board. The treacle sponge looked and smelt Devine. My gf Parma was okay but a little salty although we did enjoy the chips. The salad was nicely presented as was the nachos starter.

Wasn't happy at all with my food. I ordered a gluten free parmesan which was greasy and tasteless. My partner ordered a large non gluten free parmesan which was light pink throughout. I didn't sat much of my food and then we left after paying nearly £30 Which I was shocked at you can go to a restraunt and get better food for the same price ! Wanted a cheap and cheerful meal !!

Visited the Half Moon today with 20 of my colleagues in total for a Christmas lunch. The food served to us was a mixture from the main menu and the Christmas Menu. Everyone was delighted with the food they were served. Considering the amount of people all meals came hot which can be unusual in a larger group. The staff were extremely curtious. I would highly recommend a visit. Thanks to all the staff for their efforts in making our lunch a special time

We eat here recently before visiting the scream factory. I was surprised to see it empty on a Saturday around 6pm. We have always enjoyed our food and drinks here, this time it didn’t disappoint. The reason I gave it 3 stars is the service, not very friendly at all. Felt like we weren’t wanted especially by the man at the bar. The lady who served us our food was a little friendly.

First time I have visited this pub in years. Great welcome from very friendly and helpful staff when we arrived. The food was regally good from the excellently cooked steak and a slimmers chicken parmo. Two of us had the home made corned beef pie. Something I haven't had in a long time with homemade chips. Simple but really tasty. Can't wait to go back for the mixed grill which looked tremendous

Just started visiting the pub on an evening with my mum and dad for a quick drink after taking the dog for a walk.... can't comment on the food as we've not ordered any as of yet because we tend to come quite late. The staff on the other hand have always seemed pleasant enough and are happy to provide a water bowl for the dog. The drinks are also very reasonably priced! Will defiantly be back(probably tomorrow!) and plan on trying the food in the near future!

This place is lovely, good food, amazing staff. Any negative comment must either be delusional or mistaking this place for another!!! Made changes to dishes and answered any and all questions about food. Food freshly made and delicious.

Called here on Saturday tea time on our way back from Sedgefield show we were greeted by a very friendly lady who gave us our menus , as it was not busy we could choose where we sat.

Came by taxi for tea,arrived at 7:30 to be told they had finished serving food over an hour ago(thursday night) decided to have a drink while we decided where to go to eat.My 5 year old Sat on a seat while waiting for his dad Come from the toilet and I was asked by a man would I be taking my drinks outside as no children were allowed past the point n the restaurant area was closed.Couldn't wait to get out of there tbh.Went outside and called a taxi and had issues with our phone so asked the man if he could call us a taxi to which he replied he only had emergency calls.My partner pointed out there was a phone on the bar.'we don't usually do this'" was his reply.The lady might I add was lovely and friendly.We headed to town has a lovely meal and when asking the waitress if she could call us a taxi at 9:30 we were told 'ofcourse'.Not child friendly,couldn't get a meal at 7:30.We won't be back,plenty of great places to eat,child friendly in Middlesbrough and small businesses need to go the extra mile to stand out,this place didn't even set off

Coming back from shopping in Middlesbrough on way back to East Ceveland decided to stop for tea at this pub in Lazenby, really nice service from couple running bar and quickly asked if want drinks and food menu and when food came, really good size portions, i had fish and chips with fish nice and white and batter very well cooked. Wife had mince and dumplings again very nice followed by coffee each. Nothing was a trouble for service was good and price was excellent for standard of food and amount. So i am going to recommend if fancy somewhere on way to and from Boro will recommend to try for yourself.

Visited tonight for a Birthday meal and was immediately made to feel welcome by the lovely Lady front of house. Excellent home cooked food with a varied menu and very sensibly priced. Patio area at the rear which captures the afternoon Sun. Certainly somewhere we will visit again.

As soon as we entered the bar/restaurant we were greeted by a friendly landlady. She made us feel very welcome. Service was excellent and the food delicious. Home made too. I would definitely go back.

Visited The Half Moon with friends on a Wednesday evening about 6ish.Not too busy was served promptly.Food was delicious well worth the money.Two of us choose from the two for £15 menu was great value and the meals came piping hot .The best homemade chips we have tasted in a long time.Great food,Great service.Delicious food.

Really good choice of food on the menu. Fast service and good food. Plenty of it too. A very good choice of beers and lagers, well stocked bar. A pleasent evening out whilst staying in the area for a few days. Friendly locals that like to chat to us tourists, a good night out would really recomend.
